Summoner Spells Back to Top

Flash is a definite for helping to engage, or run away. Usually I go exhaust, but Ignite helps stop healers so could be good.

Thunderlords works perfectly with Kennen. An empowered auto (with his W) and then his W active gets off the thunderlords very easily. The rest maximize damage, and poke that you do. You could put the 12 into defensive to make him tankier but I prefer the damage with Kennen.

kennenpassive.png This is really important with Kennen. Basically get three stacks of his passive and you get a stun. As a support your goal is to get those three stacks. Pre-6 you want to get your w from an auto on the adc, hit your w, and then land a q which will be a lot of poke and a stun if done right. Your ult makes this much easier to get the stuns off. Your e also adds the stacks so keep that in mind.

kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png For Top Kennen this brings a lot of damage. Support Kennen you don't get much AP so this is just to get another stack of your passive so get at level 2 and max it last.

kennenbringthelight.png This is where Kennen's poke comes from. Build up stacks by attacking full health minions (full health so you don't screw up your adcs farming) once it's charged auto attack the adc or support then immediately hit your w. That will proc thunderlords, get off 3 stacks of your spellthief's edge, and do a bunch of damage. This also works especially well with kalista's w which will do extra percent health damage if you both hit the same target.

kennenlightningrush.png This is your engage or escape tool. You max it second for the increased defenses it gives you and the lower cooldown. The cooldown gets low enough you can theoetically e in zhonas fight a bit and e out.

kennenshurikenstorm.png  Kennen's ult is his main ability and damage, without it he is pretty weak. He has some poke but his ult is awesome for teamfights, 2v2s, 1v1s just everything. This is also the reason you work so well with kalista. She throws you in and you knock everybody up and then e into the center of them and ult and then w. This does a massive amount of damage and has a lot of hard CC. As soon as you and kalista get your ults and maybe a few items do this combo on the enemy bot lane assuming they aren't under tower you should win the fight. If you zhonas while ulting the ult will continue too which is nice.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

This works really well with kennen as a poke support. Gives him some damage, he gets the procs off really easily too so he makes good use of it except for the mana regen.

Core Items

DONT FORGET THIS It's not in the recommended but you still need it. So often I see "off meta" supports forgetting to build this and then you have no vision and die. Get this and sweeper and get it early.
This gives you more poke, gold, and spooky ghosts that find enemies and slow them. It immediately tells you what direction the closest 2 enemies are and it goes out to find them. Very useful item.
Works really well with kennen's ult and gives him some tankiness to survive being the initiator.
Magic pen works really well on kennen because of his high base stats so definitely go for this.
Gives you ap, tankiness, and lowers enemy mr, literally everything support kennen wants in one item.
These are all good choices as they give you damage, tankiness, and banner gives you nice split push power (for banner put it down a side lane on a cannon or caster minion and then push another lane that way the enemy has to either send someone to deal with the banner and be down a player or let it push). Rylai's gives you added soft CC which is nice and helps you land the rest of your combo. And Liandry's adds to your damage a lot.
All of these are good tank items as you are going in first so if you can swap some damage for this it'll help you survive
Zekes works well for both you and your adc to get more damage. Void brings a ton of damage against those stacking mr, and hextech is a random kind of troll item but the active is good, and it gives you some sustain and damage.
Gives you an extra engage and more damage in your combo. Plus it gives you some tankiness. perfect item.

Situational Items

It depends on the game what specifically you build. If they are all or mostly ap then go for abyssal into banner of command if they are AD rush zhonas and then maybe go for another armor item. You will probably be focused as ulting kennens are scary, and that's a good thing as you're the support and focusing you means they aren't focusing your mid, or adc. However  you don't want to die too quickly. If you do die you want to make sure your team at least wins the fight off of it.

VS

Janna

Hard

This is the hardest matchup for kennen as her R basically stops your engage and heals any damage you may have done. She will shield your attacks and ruin your day.

Synergy Back to Top

KALISTA - Her w works amazing with your w, and most importantly she gives you a way into or out of (but try not to have this happen) fights. This combo is the only reason I play Kennen support although he does work without Kalista. I recommend going into a duo with this as it works best when you're on the same page about when to go in or who to target, but it can work in solo que too. Go in once both of you have your ults and ideally when you both have at least some items to work with. This will also surprise most bot lanes as they don't expect the damage and cc that comes out of this all in.

Other champs Kennen could work with are people who have hard CC like Ashe Jhin or Varus or a way to get him in like Sivir. Basically anyone that wants to initiate and start a fight.

Also watch out for janna as her ult and q push you back really effectively. Alistar can be annoying too to get you out of their team.
