Summoner Spells Back to Top

Always use flash on 121.png for the extra mobility and smite because jungling...duh.

Masteries Back to Top

Since we are here to carry games, rather than try to get a tiny bit of extra health, I like to go 12-18-0, using thunderlords as my keystone. Looking at each mastery individually, I go sorcery since KZ is a spellcaster, double-edged sword cuz melee, vampirism for some extra life steal for that early clear, bounty hunter since we're gonna kill everyone(in theory), savagery for more clear speed, runic affinity since we like having our buffs a long time, merciless to execute people, dangerous game for that insurance, intelligence so we can get our khazixQ.png up as much as possible, and thunderlords in order to burst people faster for the entire game.

Unless you start at a buff(red/blue) I suggest starting khazixQ.png, since it has good damage and a short cd. Then get khazixW.png for the extra AOE and heal, then khazixE.png since you wont need it until level 3 at the earliest anyways. ALWAYS EVOLVE AND MAX khazixQ.png FIRST, since it gets a ridiculous amount of isolated damage which typically catches people off guard early. Then max khazixW.png second, while evolving khazixE.png at level 11, so you can get the resets as the game transitions into skirmishes and team fights. Finally, max khazixE.png last, since it doesnt scale well enough to max before khazixW.png. Depending on what your team needs, you can either evolve khazixW.png or khazixR.png, for waveclear/poke, or invisibility/mobility, respectively.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

Situational Items

Always start with 1039.png2031.png, since the talisman helps keep your mana up and refillable potions are really good, since we will be getting 2032.png later on.

If you get a solid early lead, I would rush a 3077.png so you can clear ultra fast and gank more often in order to extend that early lead. If the game is pretty even(or if you're somehow behind), just rush 1400.png, so you can keep up in experience, get some much needed damage and cdr, as well as more jungle sustain. After your first item, I highly recommend getting 3071.png second, since it gives you damage, cdr, armor destruction, and movement speed when applying physical damage; basically the most efficient item on KZ.

After that, the item choices are yours to make. Just keep in mind that you want to hit 45% cdr in order to cause the most devastation in team fights, so you would just need 10% more after 1400.png and 3071.png. I think 3812.png is really good since it also gives you more damage and healing from all physical damage you do, which is a lot at 3 items. 3009.png or 3111.png are your best boot options, but go mercs when the other team has hard cc, cuz you dont want to get locked down when u build mostly damage.

For your last 2 items, if the game even goes that long, i suggest getting a bit tankier since your damage is amazing anyways. 3026.png is usually great, assuming your team kills things if you die. 3156.png is also a good one if the other team has strong magic damage threats, since it also gives you flat armor pen and damage along with magic resist and a useful active. If you have 10+ kills around 20-30 mins, knock yourself out with3147.png cuz it does stupidly high damage.

VS

Amumu

Medium

Amumu is a toss up (pun intended) since he can build damage or tank really well. If he's smart he will go tank against you so you cant solo kill him all game. Amumu is a strong ganker and teamfighter so make sure you dont power farm while your team gets owned. If you stay focused, he shouldn't be able to match your power unless your whole team groups to tightly.

VS

Elise

Hard

Elise should naturally be able to clear, gank, and get objectives better than KZ, but that doesnt mean every Elise player will. Knowing when you are strong, as well as good vision control early, should keep you and your team in the game long enough for Elise to fall off as hard as she does.

VS

Evelynn

Hard

Evelynn and Elise have very similar strengths, making Eve another tough one to go against. See the Elise matchup notes.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Easy

Fiddle will pretty much always be full health when he clears his jungle, but cant gank very well without his ult. Also, if you ever see him alone try to 1v1 him if u have even or more health, since your single target damage out paces his heal. Keep a ward on dragon though, since he can solo early(level 3 w/ blue buff or any time with blue buff). His damage late game kinda sucks so you should have him then for sure.

VS

Gragas

Hard

Gragas does everything well early game, with %max hp dmg, healing, AOE spells, short(ish) cds, a dash that stuns, as well as a displacement ult. If you can keep up in cs and levels, his damage falls off really hard, but he can get too tanky for you to solo if hes a little bit ahead. Try to not focus him in teamfights unless your whole team is.

VS

Hecarim

Medium

Hecarim is one of those champs that is incredibly dependent on an early lead. His early clear is good enough for him to gank with double buffs at level 3, so try to find out where he starts in order to figure out where he will gank first. If he does get a huge lead, you're in for a rough game, otherwise he falls off faster than most junglers since he doesnt scale really well with damage or tank items alone.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium

Jarvan is pretty much the same as Hecarim, just with less sustain early. Basically on the easier side of medium. See Hecarim notes.

VS

Jax

Easy

Unless Jax gets a HUGE lead on you, or you just get outplayed really hard, you should have no trouble getting ahead of him, since he scales well into late game but is very weak without items. If you time it well, you can go invisible with your ult for nearly the entire duration of his stun, then you can burst him out after that. He ganks well though but shouldnt be able to win a 2v2 or 3v3 unless his teams lanes are much stronger than yours.

VS

Kindred

Hard

Kindred is an interesting one, since shes a marksman (which you love to focus) but has an invulnerability ultimate (which you hate). Even without a lot of passive stacks she deals a good amount of damage, and can surprise you very easily if you arent careful. With that being said, if you can get a few early dragons, regardless of which ones they are, you should be able to have a chance late game with a good dragon or baron steal since she doesnt have a good way of bursting them when they get low.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

Lee Sin is another jungle that is pretty good at everything, except for having good damage late game. His q and e make your life hard since they show you through your ult, but you should be able to 1v1 him if you can dodge his q, since its his main damage spell. He can gank often and well, but if you are there to turn it around then focus him since he is squishy until about 3 items in.

VS

Master Yi

Medium

Yi, like Hecarim, loves snowballing really hard; but if he doesnt he is fine stalling until late game when he can unleash his full power with about 3-4 items. Always focus him if he goes into a teamfight since he should be pretty squishy and give you a free jump reset.

VS

Nidalee

Hard

Nidalee, aka Queen of the jungle, is the most annoying champs to face in the game right now. Her early game clear will always be faster than yours, and her ganks are pretty great if she lands her q or has red buff. She can also execute her targets at low health, so dragon and baron steals are difficult(not impossible) and if she gets you low theres not much you can do. BAN EVERY GAME IF U CAN, otherwise do your best since she doesnt build resistances very well or often, so she is usually kinda easy to kill if you jump her first.

VS

Nocturne

Medium

Nocturne has high early damage and gank pressure with his long range ult, so try not to 1v1 him and make sure you grab the rift scuttlers and places wards in his jungle to keep track of him. He can snowball himself really easily, but falls off ultra hard if your team focuses him in fights later. Dragon and baron steals are a good option since he has no way of executing them quickly.

VS

Nunu

Easy

Nunu is really weak right now, and especially against KZ, since he has 2 damage spells and theyre both not very good against you, since you have high damage and burst and slows of your own. Dont let him near your dragons or barons though, since his q doest 1000 true damage to monsters at max rank, which is your smite at level 18. So ya, he steals your stuff and does no damage.

VS

Olaf

Medium

Olaf is really good against any melee champ until after level 11, when he falls off really hard. If he doesnt build a lot of armor, or a lot of health, you shouldnt be too concerned about him, just know that he can execute dragons and barons with his e smite combo, which will do around 300+his smite which is around the same as your q+smite.

VS

Rammus

Medium

Rammus should own you late game, but if you can get an early lead he becomes a tank bot that really should be able to do much other than make your adc's life miserable. All you have to do is delete his adc and then your team should stand a chance. Has a REALLY slow early few clears so invade when you're full health and you should find a few kills.

VS

Rek'Sai

Hard

Rek'Sai clears and ganks nearly as well as NIdalee, but has WAY less damage the entirety of the game. Keeping yourself and at least one of your lanes in the game should give you a fighting chance, and be ready to steal dragons and barons, since your q+smite will always do more than her e+smite, even if you're down a level or 2.

VS

Rengar

Medium

Ah Rengar, the best lore matchup of all time. You and Rengar do a lot of the same things really well, but he should finish his first clear with less health than you. If you can, try to get off an early gank, since your jump is guaranteed while he needs a bush for his. Silly kitty. Also, a quest will appear once you are level 16, which will require one of you to kill(or assist on a kill) the other. If you complete the quest, you get to evolve all 4 spells, WHICH IS REALLY NICE, but if he wins he gets more uses out of bushes, which is nice for him I guess. Mostly it just feels good to kill him cuz hes lame(kappa).

VS

Sejuani

Easy

Sejuani is like a less damaging Amumu, so check those notes out. Her ganks are also not as good as his unless she gets 40% cdr and just ults all the time.

VS

Shaco

Medium

Shaco will annoy you more than anything on the planet(including Teemo), but will LITERALLY BE USELESS late game. So just dont get too discouraged unless hes like 10-0, and even then theres still a chance. Try not to die a lot and kill as many creeps as you can s that way you can take over once he starts to suck.

VS

Shyvana

Medium

Shyvana has pretty good clear time but she doesnt have good sustain. Also, she really shouldnt be able to gank early unless your lanes push to the enemy turrets. Shyv does apply a lot of pressure when she does show up, as she has pretty good damage and is relatively fast. She will fall off late game regardless, since she cant build full damage and survive, nor can she build full tank and do meaningful damage.

VS

Vi

Medium

I personally think Vi is pretty weak right now, but she can definitely be problematic early game. She can 1v1 you until she has to start building tanky, and she has decent clear speed. Shes another one that scales into the gutter thought, so stick through until that happens and you she be rewarded.

VS

Volibear

Medium

Volibear is a tank that can actually kill you 1v1, so never fight him if his passive is up if you can avoid it. He can execute dragons, barons, and champions really well, so watch your health bar. He benefits from building full tank, as health adds to his w damage. Kite him really hard, and he will be useless in fights. Let him flip your adc or mid, and your life will probably suck.

VS

Warwick

Medium

Warwick is just like Jax, except he has a much better early-mid game. Also, WW has a really good ult, which suppresses his target for almost 2 seconds, while applying a lot of damage. Tell your adc to get 3140.png as early as possible, so you dont have to worry about WW too much later. CAUTION: 1V1 AT YOUR OWN RISK SINCE HIS SUSTAIN VS 1 TARGET IS AMAZING.

VS

Wukong

Easy

Wukong is actually quite similar to KZ, except has a harder time sustaining in the jungle early. He will usually build the same items as you, but his advantage lies in getting a really good ultimate off, whereas all you have to do is delete him or his adc. Also, if you cant steal a dragon of baron from him, I will be so sad for your sake.

VS

Xin Zhao

Medium

Better version of Yi, since he can build more defensive and get away with it since he has good cc. See Yi notes for more.

VS

Zac

Easy

Zac has one of the longest range engage spells in the game, which also knocks up his targets for a second. This alone makes him a good ganker, but really has no use late game besides hitting 2-3 people with his e, then comboing his ult after that. Relies heavily on his team to do damage in fights, so make sure you kill whatever hurts the most first. Also, you can 1v1 him all game, if you're healthy enough of course.

Summary Back to Top

You are playing an assassin, so make sure you know how easy it is to kill people and get killed yourself. Know your matchup, but also your teammates matchups too. This will help you make better decisions, which will allow you to carry the game more often. Knowing matchups is super important for jungling, since it isnt too hard to farm the jungle.
