Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png Essential for flashy lcs playz
14.png Enemy will outscale so if you don't take it and win lane early, you will be useless, can take on support if you want a bursty kill lane.
3.png Support or vs burst like zed,if you're pro like me you don't need :D
12.png If you're looking at this you're also bronze so don't touch it

New Section - for update

Flash - this is essential on lee sin if you're tryharding. It enables the r flash combo, the e flash combo and many more which I will explain later. It also adds to lee sins already amazing mobiltiy making him almost impossible to get away from for certain champions.
Smite - as you probably know this is essential for jungling. Without it versus any half competent jungler you will never get a single monster based objective and will make clearing the jungle alot harder and will not allow you to purchase the very gold efficient jungle items. It also enables you to do the q smite combo which I will explain later.
Ignite - I usually take this in the top lane to add kill pressure against the enemy jungler/laner and then with that advantage  I'll snowball my lane and the game. You can also do it in normals with smite and go full ad assassin lee sin jungle, it's not very efficient but it's quite fun and adds to his already decent early game.
Exhaust - You can use this for support lee sin if your not going for a kill lane. You can also take it vs champs like riven and zed if you're new to the matchup. But when you get better at the matchups this summoner is outclassed by others, it's like a crutch if you screw up you can use it defensively but if you need a little extra oomph you can use it aggressively as well.
Ghost - It got a really nice buff a bit ago increased the movement speed per level and so it's probably meta for some junglers like olaf and hecarim but lee sin doesn't need it so I would never take it unless you're trying out silly things or you haven't unlocked flash.
Teleport - Tp smite farm sin jungle time! Just joking that's absolute garbage. I would only take this top lane if you're not confident in your skills to win lane and your going to go tanky. You can use it to get some nice tp ganks bot, but if you don't then you basically screwed up your lane and your team effectively has no top laner as when you tp your lane opponent will be gaining farm and xp and outscaling you even faster. I usually never take this.
Other summoner spells - competitively you shouldn't even look at them but if you want a bit of fun then you could try them out in normals or bot games...

Masteries Back to Top

21/9 for all lanes except support

9/21 for support if you need a team tank or are new to lee song

For Jungle remove a point from warlord and put it in feast for more damage to monsters
and in defense put 2 points in tough skin instead of Recovery

S6 - u can also do Strength of the Ages

New section - for guide update

The only real choices you have are
12-18 thunderlords damage
0-18-12 thunderlors utility
12-0-18 strength of the ages tank
Choosing which mastery page depends on how comfortable you are on lee sin  and your respective elo.
Thunderlords damage - This is the one I usually use and is what I recommend to the lower elo lee sins to help them snowball the game. The extra sustain helps you keep out longer in the jungle and therefore get more ganks off and the damage helps sucessfully execute people in the early game when you gank.
Thunderlords utility - In this page you probably want to take the same masteries in the cunning tree except instead of penetration you want to take the 5% cdr for the utility. In the resolve tree you want to take the summoner spell cooldown reduction. This is more of a playmaking mastery page. It helps you do those flashy montage plays more often and is just as good as the above page. I just prefer the extra damage.
Strength of the Ages tank - This is used if you're playing in a team full of reliable players and need to be the teams tank or you're inexperienced with lee and need the extra beefiness to make you survive while you try to make those plays. I would only use this if I was playing with higher elo people and against them. When you play vs good people you won't have many gank opportunities so you'll be farming the jungle more and so this mastery will be very efficient as you'll be stacking up free hp. If you're a soloq player I wouldn't bother taking this until mid/high diamond, this is just my opinion though if you're having consistent good results with it then go for it.
Alternate mastery pages - for fun
Fervor of battle - top lane on hit  attack speed build lee sin, look no further.
Grasp of the undying - tank sin top lane :D
Warlords bloodlust - Full lifesteal lee sin is a real pain in the ass if you get ahead, with his max rank w alone he has almost consistent 25% lifesteal + spellvamp.
Individual mastery explanations -
Ferocity
Fury/ Sorcery - Either one can work. Most lee sins prefer fury for the slightly faster clear speed which works especially well with Strength of the Ages. If you don't care about the slightly faster clear speed then go for sorcery it will make your ganks and duels hurt just that little bit more. The faster clear speed means you'll also have more ganks coming out as your jungle will be cleared faster leaving you nothing to do but gank.
Feast/Double edged sword/ally damage one - In lower levels I would always take double edged sword as the 3% damage is really nice and the damage taken doesn't matter to much due to your insane mobility. If you're new or not confident in your clearing or playmaking capabilities take feast, you can't go wrong with a bit of extra sustain. I would never take the ally damage one unless I'm support or full tank since the other 2 outclass it and your aoe ability damage is very situational sometimes.
Vampirsm/Natural talent - I personally always take vampirism as it keeps you noticably healthier in your jungle clears  and so you're out in the jungle for longer and can gank more early game, which is what lee sin's all about. Lee sin auto attacks alot (atleast in the earlygame) due to his passive making it slightly more useful on him than some other junglers. Lategame natural talent outscales it but you don't play lee sin for the late game so why bother. You could take it for the extra damage if you're going more of a midgame bruiser leesin or going full ad but that's only if you can clear the jungle well without the help of vampirism.
Bounty hunter/Oppressor - For soloq I advise bounty hunter as if you're doing your job you will net quite a few kills around the map in the early game and so it will quickly outscale oppressor which is only really useful for your first few ganks Oppressor is only really applied on your e which only last for a few seconds anyway. It's only really worth taking bounty hunter if you're support as you won't be getting many kills or if you're  going full tank lee sin for some reason. Full tank lee sin can go in the enemy team and afford to get slows on them as well so the extra damage is alright I guess. Another reason not to take oppressor is that lee sin does not usually fit in slowing items into his build such as chilling smite, botrk and frozen mallet. In the very high levels of play where the first few ganks can decide the outcome of the game and people can chain cc properly I would consider taking oppressor.
Cunning
Wanderer/ Savagery - only take wanderer if you're support or you clear the jungle perfectly and want to have some fun exerting extreme amounts of early game pressure (which savagery also lets you do anyway due to faster clear times),I wouldn't advise this if you're not more skilled than your opponents though because if you do it wrong and get behind you'll have a harder time as the enemy jungler has more gold/xp while you were wasting your time failing ganks. If you're an average player then just take savagery as the extra clear speed makes you slightly healthier which helps you get ganks more ganks of early just like vampirism.
Meditation/Executioner - If you didn't know lee sin doesn't use mana so meditation is completely useless on him as you have no mana to regen. ALWAYS take executioner over meditation. Unless you're a troll. Also note executioner makes it easier to execute people under 50% hp with your q as it amplifies the missing health damage as well as the base/scaling damage.
Bandit/Dangerous game - Even on support I would take dangerous game, using your q to harass as support is ok but it's not worth the 10 extra gold since you have to hit 30 q's to make for the 300 gold you'll potentially give by dying due to not getting that clutch dangerous game hp when you get a kill.
Precision/Intelligence -  I feel it depends on playstyle if you want more of a flashy playmaking playstyle then go for intelligence. But in general you usually only get to use 1 round of abilties in the early game before the enemy retreats to tower or they kill you so precision is better for the early game. I would generally advise precision as even though lee sin doesn't have many energy problems you have to auto attack more which is not helpful during the later stages of the game as you simply don't have the time to turn around and auto someone for that extra 10/20 energy. It's hard for me to decide which one is vastly superior so go with what feels comfortable for you.
Windspeakers/Thunderlords/Stormraiders - Windspeakers as you probably guessed is almost completely useless on lee sin unless you're going full ap lee sin support... Thunderlords in my opinion is the best option as it allows you do more damage  which is all you really need in the early game as his kit already has enough utility and mobility built into it. Stormraiders could be useful when you insec to help you get away but I wouldn't take it anyway unless I'm playing some normals or bot games.
Resolve
Recovery/unyielding - Lee Sin isn't meant to be played as a pure tank as other champions outclass him at it by far. You won't be building much armour/magic resist early on and so it has no real benefits for lee sins core early game. Recovery on the other hand helps you to stay healthier and as I've said so many times, stay out in the jungle longer which helps in the early game. Take recovery unless you're going absolute full tank lee.
Movespeed one/Damage blocking one - While the damage blocking one is actually really good for laning it can be moved out when jungling if you really want the extra movespeed to gank more. If you're going into the resolve tree in the first place though you might be wanting to become tankier, if you want tankiness go the damage blocking one but if your confident in your early ganking skills go movespeed one. In higher levels I would mostly take the damage blocking one.
Summoner spell cooldown/Health regen one - Take the summoner spell cooldown one 99% of the time as the reduced cooldown on flash is amazing on lee sin as it increases the amount of plays he can make during the game. If you have stupid summoner spells due to ultimate bravery or something take the health regen one.
Swiftness/Legndary guardian - Swiftness helps you catch those pesky laners who slow you and try to run away as well enable you to run away faster. In a more early game centered lee I would take swiftness. If you're going for midgame bruiser(which you probably are doing if your going this deep into the resolve tree) or they don't have many slows take legendary guardian as the utility won't be useful if you're getting blown up/if they can't slow you anyway.
Grasp of the Undying/Strength of the Ages/Bond of stone - Tank lee sin top takes grasp of the undying due to how it helps him trade/sustain and the fact strength of the ages stacks really slow top lane if your only getting cannon minions to stack it up. Jungle lee sin will take Strength of the ages if he's going this far up the tree due to the free hp and tankiness. Bond of stone only for full tank support lee sin (which is outclassed by literally every other support, but if you want to try this stuff out then go for it.)

Q - E - W - just the best since E nerf

W - Q - E - good top lane if you're losing hard (or versus pantheon and new to the matchup)
E - W - Q - Only versus extremely hard tank lanes
W - E - Q - Tanky peel machine with no dmg

Will add  details about abilities when I can be bothered

New section - for guide update

Maxing q first is the most optimal thing to do as w and e got nerfed a while back. It gives the most damage as well as scaling well early game. The extra shield/lifesteal isn't that good early as you can't always self shield due to ward jumps and the lifesteal isn't as good as you don't have the damage early to back it up. Maxing e first could be considered on full tank lee jungle. What you max next is preference/situational. If you play more of a aggressive lee sin you may want to max e second for the increased damage and slow. If you find yourself getting blown up or you're behind I would max w second as a leesin with slightly less slow/damage is more useful than a dead one.
Note - Even if I max e second I usually put one more point into w at level 10 as it doubles the shield and lifesteal for only 1 point which is really efficient. If I'm going full ad lee sin for fun though I don't bother.
Passive - flurry
Remember to use this passive during jungle clears it makes a MASSIVE difference in how healthy you are and how fast you clear. You want to use an ability auto attack twice then re-activate the ability and do it again then move onto the next ability. There are some variations when clearing but I'll go over that later.
Q - Sonic wave
This skillshot is core to being good at lee sin, if you can't hit this then you're going to be miserable most of the time. One trick I learnt is that it's easier to hit if you walk up to people instead of trying to throw it max range and hope you get lucky, I'll explain this in early ganks.
Q - Resonating strike
This as well his w jump makes lee sin extremely mobile, he has 2 inbuilt dashes. This can be cancelled mid air by flash or a wardjump or even an enemy cc. One example of cancelling it is if you're vs an annie. Let's say you hit a q on her and you know she has ult + stun up. She knows if you're going to q on her she's going to ult you and blow you up, what she doesn't know is that you can outpredict her and dodge it. What you do is you take the q and just before you get close to her you wardjump sideways dodging her ult then you can continue to insec her using flash or slow her with e and beat her up. That situation can be applied to other situations such as riven w but remember the enemy doesn't always do this so it might end up being a waste of a ward as they'll simply wait for you to ward jump away and then use the annie ult / riven w etc after. Knowing when to do this comes from game knowledge which you gain over time.
W - Safeguard
This is an amazing ability which allows lee sin to do so many cool things as long you have a ward up it's basically like a free flash. You can use it  to do things such as dodge skillshots, close gaps, escape or just to shield yourself or an ally from that last tick of ignite.
W - Ironwill
This ability is really useful to keep you healthy in the jungle as well as helping you in close 1 v 1 duels. Note that it's lifesteal and spellvamp so when you activate it you're q, e and ult heal you a tiny bit. They removed the thing where smite procs spell vamp so you don't have to bother smiting during ironwill for extra hp anymore. Also note to not always use this ability if it's not needed as it's a waste of energy in some situations. Let's say you have 110 energy and you have to finish someone off with a ward jump because they're hiding in a minion wave, so you ward jump close to them and then point blank q - q execute them. If you ward jump it uses 50 energy so that's 60 - lets say you spend a second aiming q and travelling to the ward so your on 70 and lets say you wait 1 more second or auto them when you hit q that's just about 30 when your q hits them which is just enough to exeute with the q. If you used iron will before your q you wouldn't have enough energy to q them and they might flash away which risks you losing the kill as they have more of a chance of to dodge your q and your wardjump is down, to combat this don't use your ironwill when you're securing a kill with a ward jump if your low on energy. That's only one of the many situations where you don't want to use iron will.
E - Tempest
This part is just aoe magic damage. Make sure to get close to them before you e them. Probably the most boring ability in his kit. It has a slight cast time. If you're 1 auto or ability away from death and the enemy is almost in range to do it then don't use the e as the cast time will let them get into range before your slow and let them finish you off, unless they're going to catch you anyway in which case you can risk it.
E - Cripple
This is used to slow fleeing enemies and to sometimes run away from a situation. You can use it to help land your q's in a gank or if you need to slow the enemy tank down so you can line him up easily for a good kick.
R - Dragons Rage
A really cool ability, it allows lee sin to win a teamfight or set up wombo combos (yasuo :D). It can also be used to get the enemy carries out of position so your team can kill them and win a teamfight/ get an objective. Remember kicking enemies with more hp into other people does more damage. If you're ganking bot lane you can kick the enemy support who's trying to bodyblock your q into the adc and then q the adc. It can also be used as a psuedo stun if you kick people into thick walls. If you need to escape near dragon pit you could use your e to slow them walk around and kick them into the pit and then q to them then ward jump away (only do this if the dragon isn't up). There are many other uses for this ability which I'll add later
Powerspikes - that's it for today meh

16 JUNE 2016 - UPDATE TO ITEMS COMING SOON, SOME OF THE NICHE ITEMS ARE STILL VIABLE THOUGH

Lee Sin can be built in many different ways, use this as a ROUGH guide if you're getting used to him.

 Jungle build -

  1. Chilling smite 3706.png + long swords 1036.pngor boots 1001.png First back
  2. Warrior 3707.png + sightstone 2049.png or mobility boots 3117.png + crystal if you're ward is up (get sweeper 3341.png                    when  you get sightstone) Second back
  3. Then finish off sightstone/mobility boots and get last whisper 3035.png Anytime after back
  4. From here on teamfights may start  breaking out, if they do and you're not 1 shotting people at this                point  build tanky. If you're trying to close the game (if you got a big advantage early) keep                building ad to destroy the enemies and get objectives.

Hexdrinker 3155.png - may be an option if an ap champion has got fed early or they have 2 or more ap champs (including full ap supports like annie, but not alistar etc), get it before last whisper 3035.png.

About the future of this guide

I might update it some more when I get the time. I will also decide to properly format and put icons when I have the time, thanks for reading.

Intro

First things first, I'm going to tell you that lee sin is garbage at climbing elo anything he can do other junglers can do to the same extent or better as well as the fact if you stop playing lee sin your mechanics get a bit rusty and you probably won't be at the top of your game, which unfortunately is needed to be as succesfful as possible on lee especially in higher elos. If you solely want to go up in rank go play another jungler like gragas, he can do lee's insec combo with the press of 1 button (his ult) while not having to put himself in the middle of the enemy team and having more utility in general. Also if your playing gragas you can focus more on decision making as you don't have to focus on mechanics such as ward jumping, hitting q's  and lining up ults etc. If you read this and are still interested in learning lee sin then go onwards..
In this guide I'm going to tell you what I as an experienced lee sin player think him. I'm not the best player and so I'm not going to tell you what to do and what works consistently well as I cannot assure you that it will. I'm aiming to teach you the fundamentals of lee sin as I know a trick or two about him which I think the average player won't. I want you to think for yourself and use the information I've given you to build up your knowledge on lee sin and as a player. Use this as a guide and not what you MUST do and remember that lee sins playstyle changes every game. 1 game you might have to go full tank another you may have to be the anti-carry. I want you to understand what you're doing instead of just doing it mindlessly because I told you to.
Not all things can be taught about lee sin but I will tell you what I know, hopefully this encourages you to play more lee sin which will in turn make you gain the gamesense which no one can teach you. (Gamesense is gained by playing the game)
Master yourself, master the enemy.

About Lee Sin

Also one thing to note is lee sin doesn't change, he's one of Riots first versatile and fun champions with others being vayne/riven/yasuo and (insert any insane mobility champion here). Too many people enjoy lee sin for him to get a rework and so if you do put the time into him not only will you become a better player but you will probably have a good understanding of the champion till you quit league.
A common misconception is that Lee Sin is the best early game duelest/jungler. There are people like shaco who outclass his early pressure and then there are champions that can outduel him such as elise/udyr/xin zhao and many more. He's not bad in the early game at all just he's outclassed by most of the meta junglers like kindred.

Game settings/practice I guess Back to Top

New section for guide update

Before a normal/ranked game you should go into a custom game and check your keybindings/ practice insecs and ward jumps. I would start by adding a few bots on the enemy team and then starting by clearing your jungle  until you can afford a sightstone. After you get your sightstone I would reccomend testing out your keybindings and finding one which feels comfortable to you. Make sure you can do them fast and consistently and I would reccomend learning to play with unlocked camera as it's really hard to do consistent wardjumps with a locked camera. One more note about locked camera, it doesn't allow you to look at lanes while you're jungling which means you see less gank opportunities and it can therefore hinder your performance by making you miss free kills/ easy ganks.
Once you nail ward jumping practice insecing bots by q'ing to them or a minion and then ward jumping behind them and ulting them backwards towards your tower. Once it feels smooth and easy you got the bread and butter of lee sin down. Every Lee Sin wanting to go up in ranks must know how to ward jump and insec at the very LEAST.  Also care for fiddlesticks bots he insta fears when you're in range so I wouldn't advise trying to insec him. You can also go into intermediate bot games and practice insecing to your team-mates.

It's just me putting down a bunch of crap for people looking to get into lee sin, it's by no means the most detailed, accurate or best guide. May format it sooner or later  I will add more detail and tips and tricks whenever I'm bothered peace - 29/09/2015 - 22:26
