Summoner Spells Back to Top

As much as I like to pick 14.png on a poke style support champion, 3.png has to be your choice with this champion. Your job with 117.png is to PROTECT your carries and exhaust is just the perfect option in that regard.

3.png reduces the movement speed and output damage of a champion for 2.5 seconds. Is not difficult to know your ideal target but timing your 3.png perfectly is key to turn a fight in your favor. It does wonders when facing assassins like 134.png 91.png 238.png or 55.png but it also helps when dealing with teamfighters such as 161.png or 85.png. It reduces a champion damage by 40% and their movement speed by 30% over 2.5 seconds. 3.png provides you more peel and safeness, which is just what you need on a champion like 117.png

4.png Absolutely mandatory to get away from difficult situations, create kill opportunites or finishing off a kill.

New Runes Back to Top

SORCERY

Summon%20Aerie.png?width=64 If you weren't satisfied enough with Pix here is another companion for you! Summon%20Aerie.png?width=32 is without any doubt the best mastery choice for us. It gives you a good chunk of extra damage to increase your poking ability during the first stages of the game and has great deffensive capabilities to defend your carries once we hit the late game.

The%20Ultimate%20Hat.png?width=64 Our ultimate has low CD and we will use it everytime we get on a big fight. After casting it just 5 times  we will have a 15% CDR. Combining it with Cosmic%20Insight.png?width=32 and the items we will purchase 3504.png 3107.png 3190.png during the game to get the 45% CDR cap as fast as possible we might be able to use our lulur.png TWO TIMES in a late game team fight! Manaflow%20Band.png?width=32 isn't a bad choice either to get control over our lane but The%20Ultimate%20Hat.png?width=32 could be totally gamechanging.

Celerity.png?width=64 Movement speed is key for supports and this rune choice offers 117.png exactly ehat she needs. Using luluw.png on yourself, activating 3098.png passive or using 3069.png active will transform some of our extra movement speed into AP damage. Apart from that, this mastery will make us even more slipery and less vulnerable to long CC skillshots such as 412.pngthreshq.png or 53.pngrocketgrab.png.

Scorch.png?width=64 Probably one of the best runes to chunk our enemies during the early game. Its late game value is almost invisible but it has really good potential during the early game if we are able to activate it as soon as its up from cooldown (20 seconds).

INSPIRATION

Magical%20Footwear.png?width=64 Save us money to get into our core purchases 3107.png 3504.png 3190.png as fast as possible. This mastery is also really cost efficient and makes our future boots upgrade purchase cheaper than usual.

Cosmic%20Insight.png?width=64 This is the main reason why we picked inspiration as our second rune choice. This rune is made for supports and it gives us effective tools 5% CDR, 5% summoner spell CDR, 5% active item CDR to have a greater impact during the game.

Masteries Back to Top

Lulu is probably the support champion with the most mastery options. There are so many ways to play around them and that's why I will propose different options to cover all of your play styles. Let's start with my favourite and the one that I use in most of my match ups.

CUNNING TREE

6311.png Moving fast around the map is totally fundamental and Savagery isn't not even an option for our first mastery choice. The slight movement speed boost will make us more active and unpredictable while roaming around Summoner's Rift.

6322.png Another easy mastery pick for Lulu. This mastery is focused on support players and it's crucial to take it in all of them to insure lane dominance while not running out of HP or mana. And apart from that, who dislikes a delicious cookie?

6332.png Lulu consumes a lot of mana and Meditation does wonders to not run out of mana, especially during the early stages of the game. Remember that this mastery and your 3303.png or 3301.png are your only sources of mana regeneration early on.

6342.png Free gold mastery for you, absolutely necessary for supports. You gain a lot of gold from this mastery passively and auto attacking during laning phase.

6352.png The most agressive style of players would opt for 6351.png but in my opinion Intelligence is way more practical and better during the mid-late stages of the game when you need to have low cooldows to spam your luluw.png and lulue.png as much as possible.

6363.png 6362.png Our last mastery choice is quite debatable and we will swap between 6363.png and 6362.png depending of our play style, team composition and bot lane matchup. 6363.png is the safest option and will provide you a batter scaling and peel. On the other hand, 6362.png is a really good option to bully your lane and works especially well against melee support matchups such as 12.png or 223.png. If you want to snowball the game 6362.png is the way to go. Even so, remember that it also forces you to play agressive, which could turn against you if the enemy jungler is aware of it.

RESOLVE TREE

6211.png This mastery is so good to keep your health regenerate while you are trading. It also saves you from using some 2009.png which is absolutely necessary if you want to assert lane dominance. 6212.png is not even an option for us here.

6221.png I love to roam around the map with Lulu and this mastery works perfect for me. Our champion has a lot of movement speed thanks to 6311.png luluw.png and we have to take advantage of it. If you prefer to stay in your lane 6223.png is much better for you.

6232.png Taking this mastery point is really important if you want to keep trading in lane. Starting the game with more HP than the enemy bot lane will make our lane easier and could potentially save our life in all-in situations.

6241.png Having your summoner spells 3.png 4.png with a 15% cooldown reduction is too good to ignore. It will also save you from repetitive ganks if you have already blown your 4.png during the early game and will make you more impactfull in clown fiesta games.

AGGRESIVE OPTION

MAggroOption.PNG

This mastery page is focused on agressive style of players who like to dominate lane and snowball the game from there. Having more attack speed 6111.png and AD/AP power 6134.png will give you a lot of lane control while doing extra damage with 6143.png in extended trades. You could also pick 6362.png instead of 6363.png and 6351.png for 6352.png if you want to go full aggro mode.

MELEE MATCHUPS

MThunder.PNG

This is the mastery page I use when I am facing melee support champions like 12.png 44.png or 223.png. As I mentioned earlier, you could pick 6221.png instead of 6223.png if you prefer to roam around the map.

ABILITY MAX ORDER

I always tend to max lulur.png>lulue.png>luluw.png>luluq.png with Lulu but if your lane it's over before you hit your level 6 and you are going to teamfight early on it's better to max your luluw.png first instead of your lulue.png. By this way, you could have 3 points in your lulue.png until level 5 (required for trading during laning phase) and then fully max out your luluw.png from levels 7 to 10. It's important to note that your luluw.png duration on enemies increases everytime you give an extra point to this ability (1.25/1.5/1.75/2/2.25 polymorph duration) which is absolutely insane.

(PASSIVE) PIX, FAERIE COMPANION

lulupassive.png Lulu's magical friend will fire a barrage of three bolts everytime you autoattack with your champion dealing 5-39 (based on level) (+5%) bonus magic damage. lulupassive.png also travels when you cast lulue.png on an ally or enemy champion.

(Q) GLITTERLANCE

luluq.png Lulu will fire a magic bolt with Pix help towards a target point dealing 80 / 125 / 170 / 215 / 260 (+50% magic damage) to the first enemy it hits. This ability also reduces their movement speed by 80% decaying over 2 seconds. Enemies hit after damaging the first champion will take reduced damage 56/ 87.5/119/150.5/182 (+35% AP). It's really important to know your lulue.png position before firing off this ability.

(W) WHIMSY

luluw.png While casted on ALLIED CHAMPIONS Lulu will increase their attack speed by 25%/30%/35%/40%/45% and movement speed for next few seconds.

Casting this ability on an ENEMY CHAMPION will cause them to be polymorphed for (1.25/1.5/1.75/2/2.25 polymorph duration) making them unable to use summoner spells, auto-attacks, use abilities or item actives. This type of CC can be cleansed by using 1.png 3140.png or 3222.png. Some champion abilities also nullify this effect, such as 2.png olafragnarok.png or 41.png gangplankw.png. It's effect could also be blocked by 3102.png or 25.png blackshield.png

 (E) HELP, PIX!

lulue.png Casting this ability on an ALLIED CHAMPION will shield them for 70 / 105 / 140 / 175 / 210 (+60% AP) for over 6 seconds. After casting it, lulupassive.png will also travel to your cast location.

If you cast this ability on an ENEMY CHAMPION it will deal 80/110/140/170/200 magic damage. It will also grant you true vision of them for over 4 seconds.

(R) WILD GROWTH

lulur.png Your ultimate is key to protect and peel for your carries but it also works as an initiation tool to follow up some engages such as 150.png gnarr.png or 107.png rengarr.pnglulur.png gives 300/450/600 bonus health to an allied champion while knocking up all nearby enemies for 0.75 seconds and slowing them for 30/45/60% for 7 seconds.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Both of these options are a good choice for Lulu but in my opinion Spellthief's Edge is way better to take control over your lane.
Upgrade your selected support item and take Sightstone or Boots of Mobility depending on your game plan. Don't forget to purchase control wards in the process.

Core Items

This is how your final build should look with Lulu. Some of these items change each game depending on your/enemy team composition but this is one of the most standard ones.
This should be your first item after upgrading your support item and purchasing boots or sightstone. THIS ITEM IS NUTS!
This is a heavily undervalued item for what it offers for your team. The only negative point is the build path to get it.
Has more value with tanks but still really good on support champions. Remember to use it's active close to your teammates.
Gotta go fast to roam around the map, stablish vision and help out your solo lanes.

Situational Items

Only when you need to cleanse a key ability such as Ashe or Cassiopeia ultimates.
If you lack of disengeage or need movement speed to initiate a teamfight during the mid-late game.
    Very specific and extremely situational.
Works well if you need more peeling for your carry and you want extra CDR/tankiness to spam abilities while not getting one shoted.
Underused item that could help your hypercarry on a late game teamfight.
Firstable you need to get one of your starting items 3303.png 3301.png and some biscuits 2009.png. Choosing between this two could be hard but you just have to take into account your bot lane matchups and Marksman companion. If you have a winning lane go for 3303.png but if you prefer to play more passive and focus on farming in a unfavorable lane match up pick 3301.png

After your first back you should get a 2049.png if you want to stablish vision around their jungle or bot lane. Go for  3117.png if you opt to choose your solo laners and create more pressure around the map. After doing so, sell your  3303.png to purchase 3096.png or just upgrade it from  3301.png. This will be provide you a good gold income for the rest of the game. Instead of getting your  3096.png you can also rush for our best purchasable item 3504.png.

REMEMBER TO ALWAYS HAVE A FREE SLOT FOR 2055.png

After getting your first core item 3504.png we will get an 3190.png if our jungler or top isn't thinking about building one or get a 3107.png to boost our teamfight potential or a 3050.png to buff your Marksman. After getting your second item it's time to upgrade our 2049.png to 2302.png or2045.png and get some vision control with 2055.png to get map pressure in your favor.

During midgame you need to get one of the items you didn't get earlier on 3190.png 3107.png or 3050.png. At this point is also important to start working on a 3222.png if they have a cleansable CC that it's ruining your team teamfight potential. I recommend you to not get 3222.png if your marksman already has a 3140.png

In the late game you will probably have a free slot that could be usefull to get one of the items we don't have yet 3050.png 3222.png 3107.png 3190.png 3069.png 3109.png 3174.png. Your last slot doesn't matter that much since we already have our core items purchased. It could potentially be more usefull to leave it free to get some 2055.png or buy a consumable 2139.png elixir. Getting a 3140.png for yourself to not get focused by 90.png malzaharr.png or 113.png sejuanir.png could be optimal aswell.

VS

Alistar

Easy

Melee matchups are really easy for Lulu. Even if he is able to combo headbutt.png pulverize.png your Marksman, you just lulue.png and shield it for all his damage. Make sure to luluw.png him when he trying to get his combo off.

VS

Bard

Medium

Your laning phase is stronger than his but he can get really annoying if he is able to keep sustain with his bardw.png while forcing you defensive shields if he lands his bardq.png

VS

Blitzcrank

Easy

In this matchup you have to play behind your minions and punish him if he misses his rocketgrab.png. Remember that 53.png has a really long cooldown on his rocketgrab.png so take that time to auto him or his Marksman for free.

VS

Brand

Medium

If you get hit by his stun you are most likely doomed. Do not get close to your teammates when he channels his brandr.png or your shields lulue.png lulur.png won't be enough.

VS

Braum

Easy

It's really easy for you to poke him for years without getting traded back. Remember to not get too close to him or you could get easily take down by his braumpassive.png stacking. Don't fire off your luluq.png if he has his braume.png on.

VS

Janna

Medium

Her eyeofthestorm.png absorbs your lulue.png luluq.png damage so you need to wait until she has it on cooldown or make long trades to benefit from your lulupassive.png extra damage.

VS

Karma

Medium

Her early game is as good as yours so don't make stupid trades early on. Try to poke her after she uses her karmamantra.png and make long trades with her if you want to win them out. The one who pushes the lane first has the edge on this matchup.

VS

Leona

Easy

Everytime she uses her leonazenithblade.png on you or your Marskman luluw.png her before she can cast her leonashieldofdaybreak.png. This matchup is really easy if you avoid getting hit by her leonazenithblade.png and time your abilities correctly.

VS

Morgana

Medium

You got better early game but she gets really scary one she has her soulshackles.png up. She can also block your luluw.png with her blackshield.png so make sure to make long trades to out trade her with your superior auto attack and lower cooldowns damage.

VS

Nami

Medium

Similar as 37.png but with more persistent damage. This is a skill lane and highly depends on your marksman and your ability to dodge Nami's namiq.png

VS

Nautilus

Easy

He is weak after the nerf he suffered and it's really vulnerable to your luluw.png

VS

Rakan

Easy

His laning phase is really weak and he is only a threat if he properly lands a good rakanw.png on you. The sustain he gets with his rakanq.png isn't that much and you can easily spam your lulue.png on him.

VS

Sona

Medium

She will run out of mana using sonaw.png if you keep poking her but you need to be carefull to not get too low yourself by getting constantly hit by her empowered sonaq.png

VS

Soraka

Medium

Really annoying if she knows how to play the champion correctly. Do not get hit by her sorakaq.png or she will get a lot of healing back. Try to poke her and not it's lane partner as much as possible if she overxtends.

VS

Tahm Kench

Easy

Really easy matchup for Lulu. luluw.png him when you or your lane partner has 2-3 stacks of his tahmkenchpassive.png so he can't tahmkenchw.png it/you. Poke him constantly and try to dance around him to not get easily hit by his tahmkenchq.png

VS

Taric

Easy

Similar as 223.png. Just avoid his tarice.png and you will be totally fine. His shielding/healing abilities taricw.png taricq.png are not strong enough for your absurd poke.

VS

Thresh

Medium

You have the superior match up but he can be a real threath if he pushes faster than you. luluw.png him after if he lands his threshq.png on your Marksman so he can not follow up with his threshe.png threshrpenta.png

VS

Zyra

Hard

This is probably the worse match up for us due to Zyra's constant poke and her ability to one shot us once she gets level 6. Getting hit by her zyrae.png once she hits level 5 could be our death sentence.

Synergies with Marksmen Back to Top

THE MARKSMEN ON THIS SECTION ARE MY FAVOURITE/BEST LANE PARTNERS WITH LULU

222.png   96.png   29.png

Needs peeling to not get blown up? CHECK
High DPS Marksman? CHECK
No mobility? CHECK
Can solo carry a game when ahead? CHECK

We have the perfect pick for them right here then 117.png. As I mentioned before, our champion excels at peeling for hyper scaling Marksman champions like the ones above. As 117.png our job is to getting them safe out of laning phase and moving our pressure to another part of the map.

Getting into the late game with equal gold across the board is almost insuring a free win with a 117.png type composition. You don't need to create kill opportunities during mid game as long as you stay even with your enemies, time will surely make the job for us.

119.png He is really bully and wants to push his advantage as hard as possible due to his dravenpassive.png. You got one of the best laning phases of the game thanks to your superior poke so make sure to play as agressive as possible when playing with him.

18.png One of the best carries of the current meta game. Tristana has a weak laning phase but gets rolling once she hits her 3 item powerspike. Make sure to get help her out while farming and keep her away from her threaths during teamfights. On the late stages of the game try to buff her with all of your supportive luluw.png lulue.png lulur.png abilities.

67.png Her laning phase is really weak and she is only effective in the late game but she can be really dangerous if played correctly. Buy as many supportive items as possible to help her out and try to not do any all-ins until she has a couple of core items.

Pros and cons Back to Top

PROS

  • Superb laning phase.
  • One of the best peelers of the game.
  • Extremely good to deny assassin champions.
  • Easy to learn how to play her.
  • Benefits from a lot of the current meta items such as 3504.png.
  • Good roaming potential thanks to her luluw.png speed up.
  • Good initiation follow up with her lulur.png.
  • Absolutely necessary with hyper scaling Marksman champions with no mobility such as 96.png or 222.png.
  • Can work around almost every single team composition.

CONS

  • Doesn't have initiation tools.
  • Can be easily take down due to her low health bar.
  • Not very effective when your Marksman falls behind.
  • Not the best when playing against full teamfight compositions.

Roaming as support Back to Top

Roaming as support is one of the basics of the role alongside properly setting up vision, controlling your lane, initiating and peeling for your teammates. Many times players tend to avoid supporting because they don't think the role has enough impact to carry games. Luckily for us our role involves much more than warding and peeling for the carries. Thinking before acting, knowing your team weaknesses and strenghts and playing around objectives will be crucial to recognize the best timings to roam around the map.

TTT.jpg

WHAT'S ROAMING?

I will briefly explain what roaming means as a clarifying for those who are still confused about it's significance. Roaming implies leaving your ordinary lane to support other lanes by deep warding on contesting enemy vision or by ganking your solo laners. Your ULTIMATE GOAL is to have a better position to contest OBJECTIVES or to take turretto OPEN THE MAP for your team.

WHY DO I ROAM?

Knowing why do you roam is critical to your success. Catching enemies off guard could start a SNOWBALL effect that could easily get out of hand if they do not react on time to it. Getting kills on other lanes or forcing summoners is always great but that's not your only job while roaming. One of the principal points of roaming is VISION DENIAL. Denying enemy vision is really important to make enemies play more passively and to plan future ganks. Aside from that, KNOWLEDGE is also imperative. You need to leave wards on the enemy side of the jungle to know their jungler intentions and play correctly around it. Lastly, you can always help you solo laners to SHOVE THE WAVE before they go back to fountain or FREEZE it, giving them a gold and experience advantage over it's lane opponent.

7983d6c663c6c8b9a70989e591fff928d2b75018

WHEN DO I ROAM?

Many players fail to recognize when to gank and it's indispensable to properly contribute positively to your team. You can ONLY ROAM if:
  • You SHOVE YOUR WAVE. After shoving the wave you got a few seconds before enemy botlane pushes the minion wave back to your turret. You can use that time to deep ward the enemy jungle, gank midlane or clean enemy vision.
  • YOUR MARKSMAN CAN STAY ALIVE ON A 2VS1 SITUATION. If you are losing, lane supports tend to roam but this can sometimes fire you back. If the enemy botlane is already ahead of you and they can deny your marksman farm and get an inner turret on top of that, you will play with a non-factor marksman for the rest of the game. Keep in mind that marksmen like 51.png or 81.png can safely stay alone in lane but do not leave a flashles 96.png 29.png or 202.png by it's own or they will be free flesh for your enemies.
  • AFTER THE ENEMY BOTLANE GOES BACK TO FOUNTAIN you can take advantage of the situation and seek for a surprise gank.
  • AFTER A SUCCESSFUL BOTLANE KILL you can place vision on the enemy side of the jungle or gank a lane if you are still healthy enough to not die while doing so.
  • WHEN YOU GO BACK TO FOUNTAIN you can always look for ganking one of your solo laners. Top lane is usually a good option since they don't expect the support to roam that far away from their lane. However, get mobility 3117.png boots online if you roam to the other side of the map.
  Support-by-Paulikaiser-2-HD-Wallpaper-Fa

ROAMING TIPS

  • Be aware of the enemy jungler positioning.
  • Try to coordinate a gank with your jungler's help.
  • Leave proper vision set up in botlane.
  • Tell your marksman your intentions before roaming.
  • Avoid crossing paths that your enemy has already warded.
  • Early game is a good moment to gank mid lane but once laning phase is over, playing around objectives and the top-mid area is normally better than staying around bot lane.

BEST SUPPORT CHAMPIONS TO ROAM

Roaming will always be an option for any support champion but some of them really outshine at this particular job. There are two pivotal factors you need to take into account to evaluate how good a champion at roaming and those ones are MOBILITY and CC LOCKUPS. For mobility we are looking for mobility 3117.png boots and abilities such as 432.png barde.png37.png sonae.png or 43.png karmasolkimshield.png that could get as to our destination faster than usual. For CC's we need multiple crowd control abilities with long range that are as reliable and strong as 53.png rocketgrab.png25.png darkbindingmissile.png412.png threshq.png or 432.png bardr.png. Taking all these factors into account, the following supports are the best champions to roam with:

Some of the listed champions are only good after they got their ultimate 37.png sonar.png90.png malzaharr.png or

Warding spots Back to Top

dot-pattern.png This is a very generic view about how to properly ward. Every game is different and you should recognize and ward accordingly to it. Warding the most important but also the most underrated thing in League of Legends. Warding is a team oriented work but as a support, you play a major role on your teams vision. I will now show common ward places depending on the game situation. dot-pattern.png

I didn't add wards around drake/baron but you have to move your vision to this part of the map when one of them is a contested pick for both teams. REMEMBER THAT WARDING HIGHLY DEPENDS ON YOUR TEAM AND ENEMY TEAM POSITION ON THE MAP, DO NOT WASTE TIME WARDING LESS VALUABLE SPOTS.

green.png points mean STEALTH WARDS. PINK.png points mean VISION WARDS. If green.png and PINK.png are in the same location means that both type of wards could be placed there.

WARDING BOT LANE (RED SIDE)

It's important to point out that you should always trinket lane bushes to gain lane dominance over your opponent. You can also pink ward your own lane bush if your jungler is planning a lane gank. When warding lane bushes, try to ward the closest point to the enemy turret (so your top can have a good TP spot if a fight breaks out).

Apart from that, if you are playing on blue side always try to take out the enemy red fruit (cone) that spawns on the enemy jungle (to prevent easy ganking paths).

BARON SET UP (RED SIDE)

Baron set up wards are one of the most undervalued things of the game. To help you understand where you should ward before taking this objetive check both maps. Having no vision over your enemy jungle is giving them the chance to 50/50 smite and to potentially throw the game. When warding the pit it's CRUCIAL to PINK WARD just on the left side of the baron face (as shown in the image bellow). By doing so, your pink ward will disable the enemy wards put it from behind the pit.

DEEP WARDING ENEMY BLUE SIDE JUNGLE (BLUE SIDE)

Before deep warding enemy jungler it's INDISPENSABLE to take two things into consideration:

1) Having vision on the enemy jungler
2) Knowing which part of the map you control. If you are winning bot lane entering your enemy jungler in a solo mission should be a lot safer than normal.

Understanding when you can enter their jungle unspotted is what separates a lot of players from grinding ELO. As soon as you got vision of their jungler on the opposite side of the map, it's time to move and place vision to gain control over the bot side of the Rift. Ideally, working with your jungler to place vision on the enemy side of the map is what you want to do in these situations. Having said which, it often doesn't work (especially in soloQ). Lastly, you have to know your champion limits. If you try to ward the enemy jungle (after being spotted) with mobile champions like 432.png 497.png it's a lot safer than with 44.png or 12.png, so make sure you have an escape before entering your enemy part of the map.

Who am I? Back to Top

I am N3 AsiO and I love playing support. I have been playing this game since the end of the S2 and I am currently Diamond I in EUW SoloQ. Lulu is one of my favourite champions due to her incredibly good laning phase and peel potential. She works really good in SoloQ but excels in team ranks with an organized team.
