Summoner Spells Back to Top

The summoner spell everyone knows and uses for jungling (unless ur not level 10). This is needed , its not like you can jungle successfully and secure dragons without any small fear of someone stealing it from you or anything. Not gonna say much about it because its clear . What type of smites do i take you ask ? Well i might take all of them in different situation and here goes.


3715.png : I take this for dueling , i take this most of the time because it is part of what makes yi a strong duelist . Because of this , Yi doesnt have to build damage , he could use this with the usual bloodrazor and blade of the ruined king/Guinsoos rageblade and he is good to go .

3711.png: ONLY and by only I mean ONLY take this if your team doesnt ward , this loses you a lot of dueling potential and might lose you fights versus tanks , but on the bright side you dont need to be afraid of wasting your smite on jungle camps because it cant be used against champions.

3706.png : You take this when you are not good at ganking with Yi and you need some kind of CC to help you out , generally ; i dont take this unless its needed . In some situations like hecarim or other really speedy champions i take this to slow them down and steal some movement speed in order to be able to reach them . This with blade of the ruined king is very good because one effect wears out and then you use the other.

The summoner most people take . This is probably my most used summoner along with Teleport since that is also good but we'll get to that later . I take this when the enemy team for example has a Tristana or a character with a lot of mobility that can jump over walls and outrun you .

This is amazing for dueling , it makes your opponents stats less and slows them down so you can catch them . It is amazing with red smite and contributes to the team in teamfights since if you exhaust the ADC it generally shuts them down. So basically all you want to do with this is exhaust the carry ( doesnt have to be the ADC ) and use it for dueling. Also this is great for a champion we have in the meta right now which is Zed.It makes his ulimate deal less damage if you exhaust him at the right time ( which is 0.5 seconds after he ults ) which decreases his damage and the pop's damage.

As for teleport , as i said i use it a lot . What this basically does is give yi more presence and it also makes his splitpushing way better . Since yi is a duelist splitpushing fits him. What splitting is its basically making your team 4v5 and if anyone comes to stop you you can easily kill them and keep on doing . That is what yi is good at and his waveclear is pretty good too.

Beware its SANIC! Ghost is very good with this 3142.png , this 3742.png , and this 3800.png. With your ult it makes you so fast it is amazing . This makes you catch up to very fast champions such as Hecarim , Shyvana , and more ( maybe even another yi if you play normals ) Any who , this spell is great but i wouldnt take it all the time . Good thing this spell got buffed so its better these days .

Lets go through each mastery one by one :


FEROCITY : 18


1st section :

As i said in the rune page section , Yi is auto attack reliant so you do need attack speed in order to kill your enemies faster. Plus , you dont have any damaging abilities other than Q so do you really want to lose 4% attack speed for some damage on your 1 damaging ability? I dont think so 

2nd section:
 
Clear ; double edge sword = more damage. You could take feast yes but i dont think that you want that . Expose Weakness is used for peeling and for supports , which you're not , you are an assassin and you need more damage.

3rd section :

I value damage and some more healing on W over spell vamp or lifesteal , i am pretty sure that you do too.

4th section:

Yi is usually an assassin that looks for those juicy penta kills , so that really helps him do so . On the other hand , yi has no CC what so ever so taking that is pretty much useless if you want to go alone . If you want to teamfight ya it is very useful.

5th section :

Obvious , very obvious.

6th section : 

Yi is one of the fastest champions on getting fervor stacks so if he does get them he gets really powerful , i like this most on yi but you can take whatever you're comfortable with

Some people say that assassin is good on Yi but i do like my buffs to stay with me for longer ESPECIALLY with red its so good makes me want to not give it to anyone what so ever.

3rd section: 

Yi really doesnt need mana so getting more damage on low health targets ESPECIALLY for tanks since they take you 27387 minutes to kill unless you're Yi then you kill them in 3 seconds :D

4th section :

This has been one of my favorite masteries for a while now , its so good and has saved my life from different for a while now.

So you wanna take Q first since you wanna take the least damage from the camp you are doing , this helps a lot since it deals damage and makes you invulnerable for 1 AA from the camp . You wanna take E second since you need more damage and since it deals true damage it will help you clear faster , take W at Level 3 , heal and do the 3rd camp , if you want to recall or do a full clear its your choice , i usually do a full clear then recall.



Ability Explanation:

Double_Strike.png : After landing 4 basic attacksMaster Yi's next basic attack within 4 seconds strikes twice, dealing50% AD physical damage which can critically strike and applying on-hit effects.

This Is Master Yi's way to deal more damage using Auto Attacks , this is one of the reasons master yi is a fast clearer.



msjt11f.png?1 :  Master Yi blinks to the target enemy and up to 3 consecutive nearest enemies, becoming untargetable in the process, deals physical damage to each of them, increased against minions and monsters, and reappears next to his primary target.

Master Yi's basic clearing ability and damaging ability too , combine this with your auto attacks and some items and you will be one shotting enemies easily. Remember , you can use this to dodge skills such as Karthus Ultimate and turret shots .

This is also one of the things that prevent yi from taking a lot of damage , this also resets your AA timer so you can also use this in dueling and jungling , try to use this in fights when a big damaging ability is incoming if you dont have Q such as Ziggs Ultimate .

This is actually one of the things why i think Yi is OP , this shreds through tanks , and you cant build against it since its true damage , health helps but if you don't have armor yi will naturally kill you easily.

ACTIVE : Master Yi gains BONUSarrow-10x10.pngattack speed, multiplies his movement speed and becomes immune to all Slow icon slows. While active, champion takedowns extend the duration of Highlander by 4 seconds.

Master Yi's ultimate ability , Highlander is one of my most like spells , and to be honest it is super good in 1v1s and teamfights , since if you gain an assist or kill its duration increases by four seconds , so if you ace you will have enough time to use it for the push.

Starting Items

    I guess machette is better but this isnt that bad.
    this has been the start since LOL started , machete is really good on yi , its your choice.
    Its very good for auto attack reliant champions such as Yi , attack speed is core for yi and we all know its important

Core Items

    This combination is amazing if your fed , you can shred anyone with 3-4 auto attacks . This also shuts down tanks and makes you unbeatable .
    Breserks for attack speed and switftness for movespeed and to reduce slows when your ult isnt up or you havent used it. Mercury for tenacity to reduce all the CC that is usually thrown out on yi.
    These are the choices of defense , its really good so you dont get blown up in a matter of seconds.
    Haven't tried this out yet but i've seen lots of Yis' build it recently and i have also seen cowsep build it so i guess its a solid item if the team has lots of armor.

Situational Items

    I like this so much , the passive effect is so good , and the health stats are so good.

I generally think that specific items help out yi a lot as mentioned above . Yi is amazing with rageblade and ruined king plus some of the tank items like deadman's plate , randuins , frozen heart , and warmog's which makes his regen very high. Also items that go both ways (damage and tank) are amazing with yisus. However , some items just dont work with yi like AP items.

Playing against aatrox , is to be honest , weird , aatrox is really good at clearing , and if he starts q first he clears the first camp fast , to be honest most aatroxs start golems so i say go to the gromp too so he wont invade u

This guy just wont take damage at all , dont even try to fight him and keep away , he is not that much of a danger because if he goes tank he wont deal a lot of damage instead of his R , if he goes ap then he will be easy to focus and you will kill him quickly.

She is very hard because she can duel you at all times of the game , just avoid her until you  become strong , if she is fed , just dont try to  1v1 her , and always try to dodge her Q so she wont dish a lot of damage

Easy - Medium : when played right, a mundo can duel you easily , but just dont give a lot of care for him cuz you wont kill him , if you want to invade , let him use his abilities first so you can kill him easily as it will drain from his HP pool

You can duel her , and she can duel you , knowledge matchup . You need to have a lot of vision and pink wards are needed , to see her because she is stealth . In the new jungle , eve might die really fast since she has no form of sustain . So if u see her low engage fast.

Fiddlesticks

Easy

Fiddle is a squishy jungler , that cant really duel you , invade him and dont hesitate . Fiddle is squishy and you can easily 1 shot him late game, just dont let him engage.Although fiddle is easy, he is one of theh good junglers early on because he has a lot of sustain on his back , something in fiddle that counters you is his CC , so just try to burst him fast.

Medium

Hecarim is a high damage , tanky jungle . TL;DR he is a fighter. Hecarim isnt really hard but he rarely faces problems in the new jungle since he has a form of sustain on his back . I guess for Hecarim just duel him late game you will be able to duel him at that stage.

Easy

Very easy , if he doesnt get kills this will be very easy , just try to dodge his combo and then you can beat him since his sustained damage is like crap.

if he evolves Q dont come near him since Isolation + Q = Death


if he evolves W you can beat him 1v1 but dont try to 2v2

if he evolves E you wont be able to catch him so dont bother to duel him

I don't really know about kindred that much , but i guess she wont be hard to duel with , if your against a smart kindred that utilizes they're passive quickly and makes sure to take the marks , it will be a bit hard , just counter jungle the creeps that are marked by them and you will be ok

He can duel you but since you now counter him after the e nerf Long ago , but you still have to dodge his q so you can be able to kill him, lee sin doesnt scale very well but 

he will still be tanky so get something defensive and a LW

Malphite is just a tank , he will have good TF potential so dont stand in one place or you get aced and lose a lot , if you time it right you might dodge his ultimate , alot of malphites engage with there ultimates so get a banshees so you wouldnt get knocked up by his ult

Maokai is an annoying jungler , lots of pressure lots of CC and also lots of defense , you wont have a bad time against him and you will outfarm him but you wont be able to kill him .

One of the junglers that duel you later on . Can go from easy to extremely frustrating . Based on how smart the guy playing Nocturne decides what will happen.

He will try to invade you , kill you in your own jungle , meh . Nunu scales very bad , thats in your favor , if you buy lots of wards he wont be a problem , just keep someone close to you like the support or the top laner

He will screw you up, no chance , dont recommend yi against this guy, tons of damage , cant die and provides good CC. Olaf no matter what he goes he still deals damage just dont pick yi against him.

Medium

Pantheon can duel you early on and actually destroy you but another champion that doesnt scale well is Pantheon. Take that into your favor and dont focus him late

Hard

Poppy can duel you easily , and since she can build triforce and go full defense while dealing tons and tons of damage, and she has good CC , if she stuns you to the wall she will most likely kill you.

Rammus is a very tanky jungler with a good portion of damage, his passive helps him alot since his passive gives him attack damage whenever he builds , if he taunts you , you are probably dead, just dont focus him

Rek'Sai

Medium

Rek'Sai can be medium to hard since she really scales well and might be able to duel you later on . Rek'Sai doesnt rly have much CC so she has the same problem. The thing is she can build defense and deal dmg , while you cant offer to build defense or you will lose.

Medium

Sejuani is a tanky jungler with high damage, you can get LW to beat sejuani easily but sejuani has a ton of CC and she has an escape. She has pretty good clear but you clear faster so thats an advantage.

Medium

This guy is such a troll , put a ward after you clear first camp because he will most likely invade you . If you dont ward you will be forced to flash and might even die , the thing is he is so useless late game. So take that to your advantage.

Shyvana

Hard

Shyvana can easily duel you , she is good mid and late game , if she gets sated devourer she will screw you up.

Skarner

Medium

Kind of an easy matchup since Skarner is no match to your true damage , although if he goes ad he can pull off a lot of damage . 1v1s you'll beat him but his cc is better than your's.

Medium

He can put more pressure and he might be able to duel you if he is devourer , i mean the build is getting really strong on him , just watch out.

Easy

Master Yi is the only late game champion that is able to duel tryndamere , in the late game your damage is equal to his but if you play around his ult and run away at the right time then you'll 1v1 him with ease.

He is really easy to beat , in the past he was a hard matchup but he no longer is , the only problem is in his udyrbearstance.png because its a stun , you can farm jungle faster than him if you keep track of your timers .

Easy

She is easy since Alpha Strike dodges both viQ.png and viR.png , with those away Vi is so simple to beat it is hilarious , dodging stuff like that makes the opposing player angry and i love when i do that .

Volibear

Medium

He is easy to duel due to the fact that you do true damage , he can get a bit annoying with his q , but he is very easy to beat in 1v1s , he may apply more pressure but he won't apply a lot .

Warwick

Medium

Warwick is just like you , a devourer jungler , sure in 1v1s he'll get the heads up by infiniteduress.png you but then what ? Your wujustyle.png negates all of his healing and he is very useless before he is 6.

Xin Zhao

Medium

Both devourer junglers and late game carry junglers , he might apply more pressure but 1v1s are easy for you , his teamfight presence is way higher than yours but it won't really matter.

Zac

Medium

He is easy in 1v1s but his pressure and CC are so good for teamfights , so don't teamfight against a zac or you'll lose , just try to get picks and don't get baited by him.

Playstyle Back to Top

Early Game

Yi is really not strong early , his early game is all about farming keeping away from danger and some ganks like 2 or 3. When getting invaded , don't hesitate to 4.png because it might save your life and make you go away from a lot of negatives like falling behind. In the early game you need to get a lot of these 2043_32.png2044_32.png so you can be sure that you are safe , and try to ward their jungle so you can invade the enemy jungler when he is low or take his camps to make him go behind.

Mid Game

At this point you would have your jungle item , this 3153_32.png , this 3087_32.png , and if you are sooo ahead , you would have this 1038_32.png . At this point , you would be able to duel the enemy jungler if hes not fed or a higher level than you , or he just normally beats you at all stages like 77_64.png . Try to always catch people at this stage and also get dragon whenever its up , this stage is the stage where you start caring about the Rift Scuttler ( the tiny monster that is on the river ) as it does deny objectives , ganks , and flanks. Try to always focus the ADC when possible.

Late Game

At this point , you will have your full build , making you able to split push , duel, and escape. Always try to get objectives . Whenever you get an Ace , just go Baron because its so important , empowered recall , attack damage , ability power for your team , and empowered minions. Whenever you cant fight , just split push , a you can beat a lot of champions 1v1 and sometimes you can even 2v1 if you have the power. This is the end where you will just split push , fight , and Baron .

Pros And Cons Back to Top


Master Yi is a very good jungler , he has some pros and cons , of course yi , in my elo , is a very easy champ , but iv'e seen people say he is harder in higher elos.

- Doesnt need blue much

- Fast at objectives

- Snowballs easily and heavily

- Great split pusher and a good duelist

- Good Sustain in the jungle

- Good ganking potential after 6

I usually go with this start since golem buff is really good on yi , since it stacks with the passive . Makes you receive less damage .

Solo dragon :

This really depends on the type of dragon. So here are the 4 dragons and my thoughts on them :

Infernal : You can solo this but be wary if you Q and it doesnt knock you back , RUN! The dragon might drop you to low health if you dont have lots of potions and dont Q at the right time.

Ocean : I don't recommend soloing this . Its just very strong and you might need some help to do this .

Air : Lol ? This is the easiest most simplest one to solo . It literally has 50 AD what will it do to you.

Mountain : You can solo this , just same thing with infernal , be wary.

Solo Baron : In games , if you are ahead , you can easily solo baron if you have 2-3 lifesteal items , if you have 3 you'll easily solo it , but with 2 its kinda hard .

Rift Scuttler:

This is very important , it gives vision of baron and dragon , it is really good for being aware of when your enemies are going to do an objective.

Rift Herald : You can actually solo this guy with devourer and cutlass with your ult and e . He is pretty easy to solo with the nerfs to him too and the stacks are really good.

Note : Rift herald attacks can be dodged unlike baron or dragon , so you do use your q.


 

My thoughts about Master Yi Back to Top

Is he OP ? 

Right now , Yi isn't exactly the best jungler there is. He doesn't have the best jungle clear without attack speed runes. He has no CC . He is auto attack reliant and can be shut down by CC itself. But , if yi does get the hang of it he is OP yes. Just give yi 4 kills and don't let him die , and see what happens late game. Yi needs 3 damage items and then he can go full tank.All in all , he isnt the most op jungler but he is op if fed.


Is he "Super" easy ?

No , he has some stuff that most people don't know , the timing and decision making on the champion matters so much , the thing with most Yis is that if he gets a penta kill he thinks that "Boom" he is a god , no , even i got 40penta kills with Yi and i still consider myself a decent Yi , the only master yi in the world that you can say is very good is Cowsep because he mastered the champion , he knows every single thing yi does and the outcome of fights , so no yi is not "super" easy but he is simple.

Is he simple?

Yes , yi has one of the most simple kits for a champion , he is very simple because his abilities are very straight forward so yes he is .

Does he need a rework ?

A lot of people have expected yi to get reworked , and sadly , i do too. In the upcoming assassin rework yi might just be one of them. I do understand though because his kit has nothing to it . The kit is kinda broken in my opinion especially his E . True damage out of no where is pretty weird. I do think he needs a rework because his kit hasn't been touched in a while. 

Does he need balancing?

Maybe , but he is not good in competitive , because he is very dependent on farming and his teamfights are very bad . In the LCS they need high teamfight potential and ganks , both of which Yi doesn't have. But in solo queue , especially in low elo ( such as mine ) he is very good , simply because people don't know how to counter him , that is the sole reason why he is good in low elo , people let yi farm then complain.

Does his item build need balancing?

Yi going tank is just not the right thing . I hate it when assassins go tank just because they can dish out a  ton of damage and simply not get punished for it. Ekko and Yi are in a very werid position atm so i do think yi needs to go back to his original place and he slowly is.

My story about Yi Back to Top

Master yi is my main right now , 160k mastery points with 80 games played in season 5 , some may say i am a "noob" because i main Yi but i simply do not care , why? Because this champion is my main , heck even yasuo mains come saying i am a noob when yasuo is one of the strongest , maybe even the strongest champions in the game , Master Yi is my main for a reason ; because i enjoy playing the champion , everyone has their main , and mine is Yi . Master Yi was my first jungler to ever play with , and was the first champion that i ever got a penta kill with , i wanted to main yi with the beginning of season 5 , i started playing him and i became a yi main , i watched a ton of yi ( especially Cowsep ) and that is how i learned how to play yi and how i knew his mechanics .

Master Yi's Q Back to Top

This ability needs a whole section on its own. We all know master yi's Q which is alpha strike. A lot of people use this to dish damage or as a gapcloser but people who know and main yi won't do this. What you want to do is keep this until the enemy blows a huge skill that you can dodge . Some examples are TF's 3 cards ( Red , Blue , Yellow ) Ekko Ult , Zed ult , and more. This ability is very good especially that it can make you survive from very difficult situations. All i want to say about alpha strike is that it needs timing. It isn't something easy to learn and needs some time to use it . I had to practice a lot on this and i only knew this thanks to Cowsep. If i haven't watched him back then , i wouldn't know what Yi can actually do. This is the reason why there are bad yis and good yis. The good ones will use it to dodge a lot of damage or to follow an enemy flash or gapcloser but bad yis will use it as a gap closer or to deal damage as i mentioned before. I've seen many yis use their Q the moment they see a champion and its just not right. Why would you do that ? If you waste it immediately the enemy will CC you with whatever ability they like. But don't think this has to happen 100% of the time. Sometimes you need to use your Q as a gapcloser but keep in mind you need to use your meditate as a replacement to the Q or quickly refresh the Q's cooldown. All in all its an ability that seems very simple but if you do read into it and see what it can do you will know its true potential.
