Flash is a baseline summoner spell. This has both offensive and defensive mechanics for encounters. I won't go to in-depth on this however, as I'm sure there are plenty of guides that can teach you how to use it.

3.png Exhaust

Exhaust is a great spell for defensive mechanics for encounters. You can use this if the enemy lane charges in, as it applies a slow to them, as well as a damage reduction debuff. Considering your 'E' slows quite a bit, the useful part of this is the damage reduction.

This is more of a thing of preference. This has great offensive capabilities, such as to help your ADC score a kill easier and quicker, or kill them as they run away. I find myself running this a lot, and I would recommend this if you can't find good situations to use exhaust.

Masteries Back to Top

Not really much to say here. These are the baseline masteries for almost any support. You could - if you would like to play a bit more offensive - go for ' 12 / 18 / 0 ', with Sorcery, Expose Weakness / Fresh Blood, Natural Talent, and Battle Trance.

The ability that you start with at level 1 is really a thing of preference, as you can take your 'Q' or 'W' depending on how you want to play. 'W' if you want to poke early and / or play defensive, and you can use the 'Q' for the same reason, hence why it's just a preference.


'PASSIVE' namipassive.png 

This is a great extra to all of the abilities Nami has. The extra movement speed is great for chasing or escaping other champions.


'Q' namiQ.png 

This is really hard to land. There are several glitches with this ability, such as when you use it after you flash, it places it right on top of you sometimes. I recommend practicing this in customs and bots before you go into any ranked. This is easy to land with an ADC where you can line up CC like Varus or Caitlyn.


'W' namiW.png 

This is a really mana costing ability. You will only want to use this when completely necessary. I use this when my ADC is missing some health and the enemy is within hit range, or when my ADC is half health and can be killed easily by the other laners. In other words DON'T SPAM THIS ABILITY!


'E' namiE.png 

This is really great in almost all encounters. Most of the time, you will want to cast this on yourself and slow enemies for your ADC, as your auto attacks are slower and space out the effects of your 'E' slow, which in turn slows them longer, also Nami has 550 range unlike some ADC champions.


'R' namiR.png

This has a really short cooldown, especially after you have most of your build. Don't be afraid to use it when you want to escape from someone or engage, as after you get your 45% CDR, it will have a 55 second cooldown.

Starting Items

    DON'T STEAL YOUR ADC'S MINION KILLS, AD THEIR LIFE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOURS, AND YOUR MASTERY TIED TOGETHER WITH THIS GIVES YOU 5g PER MINION DEATH NEAR YOU.
    GET THIS AFTER SIGHTSTONE, AS IT ALLOWS YOU TO CHECK BUSHES FOR ENEMY WARDS AND ENEMY CHAMPIONS.

Core Items

    THIS IS THE EXACT ORDER YOU WANT TO BUY THESE IN. TRY TO RUSH SIGHTSTONE ON FIRST BACK, THEN OASIS. BUILD RIGHT SIDE OF ATHENE'S FIRST, AS IT GIVES A LOT OF HEALTH AND MANA REGEN.
    FINISH OFF YOUR BUILD WITH THIS. IT GIVES MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF AP SO YOU CAN HAVE BETTER DAMAGE AND HEALING.
    THESE ARE YOUR CHOICES. I TAKE SWIFTNESS BECAUSE YOUR CORE GIVES YOU YOUR CDR CAP, BUT YOU CAN TAKE IT FOR THE 10% SUMMONER SPELL CD. SWIFTNESS IS JUST REALLY GOOD BECAUSE IT GIVES MORE MOVEMENT SPEED AND REDUCES EFFECTIVENESS OF SLOWS BY 25%.

Situational Items

    BUILD ONLY IF YOU FIND YOURSELF DYING A LOT AND NEED SOME BACKUP, BUT ONLY IF COMPLETELY NECESSARY.
    I BUILD SOLARI AFTER I FINISH MY CORE SET, AS IT GIVES ANOTHER DEFENSIVE SHIELD AS WELL AS SOME ARMOR AND MAGIC RESIST. MIKAELS IS JUST A PREFERANCE, AS THE CDR ISN'T HELPFUL BECAUSE YOUR CORE SET GIVES MAX.
    FINISHED YOUR BUILD? WHY NOT GRAB THIS!
    ZEKE'S IS REALY GOOD FOR POKING AND RUSHING, BECAUSE IF YOU TIME THE STACKS WITH A RUSH, YOU CAN GET YOUR ADC TO DO A LOT OF DAMAGE. ZHONYA'S IS JUST A THING OF PREFERANCE. PRETTY MUCH JUST A GUARDIAN ANGEL, BUT AN ACTIVE INSTEAD. THESE ITEM'S ARE IN NO WAY NECESSARY THOUGH.

If you didn't bother to read the item comments, DON'T STEAL MINION KILLS FROM YOUR ADC! I can not stress this enough. Your starting item, tied together with your mastery, gives 5g on nearby minion kill, and after you build 'Eye of the Oasis', it's 7g. Feel free to check other guides on different items if these don't suit your playstyle.

An Extremely Important Tip! Back to Top

One thing I have learned while playing Nami, DON'T BE AFRAID TO PLAY IN FRONT OF YOUR ADC! You are not Soraka. What i'm trying to say is, as Nami, you have great offensive capabilities, and by staying in front of your ADC sometimes, it makes it 10x easier to hit your 'Q' and engage in a fight, and 10x easier to slow the enemy laners with your 'E', as you should be casting it on yourself most of the time (See the abilities section for more details on that).


Also, if you wanted to know, I lane with a Varus main!
