You want to instakill their high priority threat all day. That's why you need Thunderstorm. It's for the extra burst. Also the tree brings you Intelligence, that gives you 5% CDR from Start and increase your CDR cap to 45%. This makes you Ultimate so op because lategame its CD will be below 60s.

You start with Q and max it first because of the AD Buff and AOE DMG. You can use the skill to lasthit or dmg low HP targets on long distances. If you gank with or without ultimate, hit your target with q so you can chase him better. Faster movespeed also means more auto attacks

You get a low of attack speed for W. Hence you get a point in this level 2 and max it 3rd after Q and R

The CC duration increase in E is marginal. That's also true it's CC. You will use this skill once in early ganks to cc instantly after ulting someone or in a non-ult gank. The damage is also neglectable compared to the extra damage you get from maxing W before E. Therefore you max this last.

R is what makes Nocturne a Nocturne. Long Range surprise gapcloser. Lategame you can ult and delete an ADC or APC from half the map. On lower Elo there is always someone squishy solofarming or solopushing. Also in teamfights you can easily dive their backline and assassinate their highest damage dealer. That's how you win your games.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Standard Start. You also might want to go machete only without pots if you are 100% sure you do not get invaded and you can do the four mini champs first and the buff after first back. Therefore you get your jungle item faster and you will prolly become 6 faster because you can farm / gank more with blue and red.

Core Items

This is what you rush. Attack Damage and early CDR (that will already give you 25% CDR)
2nd item. Nocturne is super slow. This will help you farm jungle faster, escape invades and reach your targets that you wanna gank faster without ultimate.
Your 3rd item. Congratulations. Now you got 45% CDR.
This is your 4th item. You build this into hydra last. You just want the active for more burst.
You already got a lot of AD and CDR. Now it's time to get the kill secure items for assassins. If you get BF Sword or Dirk first depends on your budget and their team composition. Squishy means BF Sword is better first, many tanks means Dirk is better.
2nd Last item, I got a quadra and tripple once by ulting their ADC while his team was standing with low HP next to him. Unfortunatelly, the replay of the Quadra was broken. :(
Finish Tiamat into this eventually as last item.
You are full assassin Noc. Build this after you have all items and every single time you know there will be important fight soon and you have nothing else to buy.
Get THE BLUE TRINKET! It's just op. SPAM it to get vision for your team. Also it will help you to get long range vision on escaping people that you can ult for good.
Get it when you get invaded or counterjungled. Otherwise put it in their jungle to the bush next to wolves or behind red and their base to help your team locate their jungler.

Situational Items

Alternative 5th item if ahead. You will do even more dmg. However, if they have escape Duskblade could be the better option.
Alternative 6th item if you go TriForce.
I have only one build path for Noctorune and it works most of the game. You job is to 100-0 their ADC or any other high priority target. With that build you will achieve that unless their have a double shield combo like Janna + Orianna, Janna+Morgana, Janna+Shen. In this case you have to wait until the target is low or the defensiv spells are on CD before you go in.

Tiamat is pretty op early in this build. However, do not forget to use it. In the following Video I missed a tripple kill because I forgot to activate Ghostblade and Tiamat.

VS

Amumu

Easy

He wont invade you. Steal his blue whenever you can (he ganks another lane or is dead). He cannot do much against you because your W makes his gapcloser Q useless. In teamfights wait for him to use ultimate, then kill his high DPS teammate with ult.

VS

Ekko

Medium

Annoying as hell because of his ult escape + shield. If he goes full AP you can ult and kill him after his ult is down.

VS

Evelynn

Medium

She can counterjungle you and kill you when you are in your jungle with low HP. So better upgrade your heal pot item to make sure you are always full HP. She is probably better in Elos below Plat because she will always pick up low HP people that overstay their lane. Lategame she cannot 100-0 a target anymore but her ult bring a lot of utility. Since you can kill their main damage source, you will most likely win the game unless on of your teammates get caught by her solo. Whenever you see your ADC or mid solofarming a lane / jungle tell them to stay grouped.

VS

Gragas

Medium

He cannot protect his carries late but he can be very annoying. For some reason these guys always start invading my buffs after I stole one of them. Sadly they realize at that point that they might be stronger in an 1on1 and keep invade. However most of them are very useless lategame while you will remove the high DPS threat in their team. Also your ganks are way better.

VS

Graves

Medium

Another annoying matchup because he can invade and steal your jungle. He is stronger than you  early and just hope your team does not feed him. Lategame you can ult him when ever he is out of position and 100-0 him.

VS

Jax

Medium

Basically a counter because of his E. Try to steal his jungle when you see him ganking or he is dead but be careful. Lategame he will most likely try to 1vs5 your team, in the meantime you kill his protectionless ADC / APC.

VS

Kha'Zix

Medium

Outburst you early, might invade your buff on Level 2. Hence ward your jungle. If he goes full damage you can just 100-0 whenever he is out of position.

VS

Kindred

Medium

Deny the jungle camps for her passive. Her ult got nerfedin Patch 6.7 and she can only ult herself now. She cannot cast it on the a teammate. However, teammates who are standing in her ult still will not die. Therefore, if you want to ult any teammate of hers make sure that (1) he is not in her ult or (2) her flash + ult range or (3) her ult is down.

VS

Lee Sin

Hard

Ban him or Dodge the game. He can invade you all day. If he does, use W to block his Q.

VS

Nidalee

Easy

Same shit as with Shaco. She will probably invade your 1st buff at Level 2 in order to kill you / steal the buff. Therefore you start you buff and ward your jungle around 1:40. Lategame she is useless. If you do not screw up hard, you win this.

VS

Rengar

Medium

You are Rengar 2.0.

Start your buff instead of a mini camp. Chance is that he will invade you. Rengo outburst you early and can kill you in your jungle. Lategame you will be able to 100-0 him with ult when he is out of position. Also your ult is better than his about you got reaction time when he ults and your team can counter his ult with oracles. Nocturnes has little counterplay. You will most probably win this matchup.

If you see your ADC or Mid solofarming / pushing a lane or in your jungle, spam that they should stay grouped.

VS

Sejuani

Medium

Stupid champ. Wait until she ults your team, then you can kill their high priority champs.

VS

Shaco

Medium

Good Shacos play with Ignite and Smite. He will either try to invade and steal your second buff or try to invade and kill you at your first buff. Hence, you should start your first buff and instantly move to your second buff or do and smite wolves when blue is your second buff. He will leave your jungle when he knows that you got vision on him.

If he goes full dmg your can easily 100-0 him after he used Q.

If your team does not feed him hard, you will most likely win the game because you are way better in killing their high priority targets.

VS

Shyvana

Hard
Biggest pain in the ass after Lee. If she counterjungles you, it gets really annoying because she clears so fast. She can also kill you in your jungle most of the time. However, she has no CC and is mostly useless in teamfights. Kill her high DPS teammate and even if you die your teammates will win the fight.

This video shows fully commented game versus Shyvanna Jungle. She cannot stop me from deleting their highest DPS Targets and even if I die my team finishes hers off because they lack the damage.

Who am I? Back to Top

Hello,

I am Wohltat. A German Player who is currently at Platinum 2 on EU-West. I have won multiple Diamond 5 Promos for friends and hope to become Diamond myself on day. If I do, it will be clearly thanks to Nocturne.

Why play Nocturne? Why 45% CDR? Back to Top

Well, Nocturne's ultimate is just overpowered in combination with early CDR. Similar to Evelynn you can completly ignore their wards once you are Level 6.  In additon, in lategame you will have an ultimate CD of below 60s. That means you can kill their solofarming ADC / APC (they always do on low Elo) in lategame and ult a second time before he grouped with the team after his revive.

Another strength of Nocturne is the redicolous AOE Dmg in combination with the passive and Tiamat. Just watch this videos:

(Full Commented Gameplay) Videos Back to Top

"WTF is that damage" asked their ADC after I almost solo got a Tripplekill 1vs3. Well, if I was not so sloppy and would have used Ghostblade and Tiamat, I got a double kill for sure. This way Kassadin could clean up.

Picking people (carries) from across the map Back to Top

What makes Nocturne so overpowered is the ability to pick people out of position. A carry is soloing their red / blue in the jungle? Your team is kiting their frontline while their ADC is somewhere in the back? A Jhin is ulting and left alone by his team? Press R and assasinate him.

However, be careful not to ultimate stupid targets. In one game their Braum was solopushing bot and I just wanted the gold for the kill. My whole team came bot in order to pick the running braum and the enemy team got a free Baron. I could blame my team but this was also a stupid move by me. The CD on the Ultimate is really short on Level 16 because on your 45% CDR. However, be careful that you do not give the enemy team an advantage by having it on CD or baiting your whole team bot when Baron is up.

This videos shows a Jinx who tries to solo their red. Good for us we have vision on her. The Nocturne Ultimate range is just huge on Level 16. I instakill her with Ultimate and a Combo and we have a free dragon.

Tipps for winning / successful ganks Back to Top

  • To be honest, Noc is most effective with an DuoQ partner that has CC. You tell him in Skype / TS / Curse Voice that you will ult and he bait the opponents gapcloser or CCs him. Then you get a 100% kill.
  • In SoloQ spam the "I go to that position" ping or tell your buddies to engage / cc before you ult to increase chances of getting a kill. Your ult is so fast that not only most opponents will react too late but also most teammates...
  • The Maximum Burst combo on Noc is ultimate, press ghostblade just before you hit your victim, use e before you reach him to get the CC off faster, after you hit him with ult use an auto attack, use Q to reset your AA, AA, use tiamat for the damage and an AA reset. Squishy targets should be dead by now. When you should use W depends on if they have a hard CC to stop you. Versus Janna you can use it instanly because she will most likely use a panic R. However, if you have good reaction you can use it to block a specific spell like Vayne's E or Darius' E (which he will use in order to peel you off his carry)
See the Video below fora 1vs3 high damage ult by me. If I used Ghostblade and Tiamat (there is a reason I am not D5 yet ;D) I got at least a double kill. This way Kassadin could just clean up.
