Summoner Spells Back to Top

Summoner Spells

Untitled-1.png

4.png Flash is the first Summoner Spell and I recommend always taking it when you're playing this champion. This is because Flash is the best Summoner Spell around. It is a really good and reliable Summoner Spell. It can be used offensively, defensively and is honestly, a really good Spell to take.

12.png Teleport is the second Summoner Spell that you should take on her. This Spell is really good because it can be used to get back to lane quicker and it can also be used to help your team. In the early game, you want to teleport back to lane after your first back. Then you should look for Teleport opportunities where you can help your team.

New Runes Back to Top

For Poppy I recommend Resolve as the main tree. Grasp%20of%20the%20Undying.png?width=32 Grasp of the Undying should be the main Rune this is because Poppy can easily activate it. Next I recommend taking Font%20of%20Life.png?width=32 font of Life followed by Iron%20Skin.png?width=32Iron Skin. Iron skin can be swapped out for the magic resist version if you’re against an AP laner. Overgrowth.png?width=32 Overgrowth is the final Rune on this tree as it makes you healthier and stronger.

In the second tree I recommend the Precious tree and taking Legend%20Tenacity.png?width=32 Legend: Tenacity and Coup%20De%20Grace.png?width=32Coup De Grace.

Poppy's Abilities

179.png

Poppy’s PASSIVE is IRON AMBASSADOR!

Poppy periodically throws her buckler at an enemy. The buckler is an auto based item that falls near the targeted champion. Poppy can pick the Buckler up to gain a small shield, if Buckler kills the enemy target then the shield will bounce back to her.

Screenshot_1.png

179.png

Poppy’s Q is HAMMER SHOCK!

Poppy smashes the ground in front of her dealing damage to enemies hit. Stepping in the shock blast will slow any enemies standing on it. If any champion is standing in the area after 1 second they will be dealt additional damage.

Tips: You can use your Q when going for trades, my favourite combo for Poppy is E+Q. I usually E into the wall, and then deal damage with Q. You can do this whenever they miss position and stand near terrain. The slow can be used offensively or defensively, If you are retreating use it behind you to slow the enemies.

Screenshot_2.png

179.png

Poppy’s W is STEADFAST PRESENCE!

Passive: Poppy gains 15% bonus armor and magic resist. When she is below 40% health, the bonus will be 30%.

Active: Poppy gains bonus movement speed and creates a spiral around her. Any champions that dash within the area are knocked up.

Tips: You need to W enemies when they are about to dash away. You can use this offensively and defensively. The extra movement speed is a huge help when using your other abilities. The Knock up is also good for your team when peeling for your carries.

Screenshot_3.png

179.png

Poppy’s E is HEROIC CHARGE!

Poppy Dashes to the target enemy dealing damage and knocking them back 300 units. If the enemy collides with terrain she deals extra damage and stuns them.

Tips: You should always use your E on enemies to knock them into walls for the stun. You can use this ability in conjunction with your W to get the speed bonus.

Poppy’s ULTIMATE is KEEPER’S VERDICT!

First cast: Poppy channels for up to 4 seconds and slowed by 15%. After the 4 seconds, if the ability is not cast the cooldown is set to 30 seconds.

Second cast: Poppy smashes the ground sending out a shockwave. If the ultimate hits an enemy they will be dealt damage and knocked back. All champions that are knocked back are airborne and sent to a destination while being untargetable.

Tips: You can instantly cast your ultimate and it will knock up enemies. If you choose to hold it down for longer, enemies will be knocked airborne far away from you. You need to be careful with your ultimate. The ultimate will always knock enemies back to their base. When playing Poppy, you will learn when you can and cannot use your ultimate, and what the best way to use it is.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Corrupting Potion is the best start for Poppy. It allows you to play more aggressive and sustain for longer in the laning phase. I recommend taking this everytime you play poppy.
If you are comfortable you could take Dorans blade.
Heavy AD poke? Take Dorans shield

Core Items

I would recommend getting Sunfire Cape first if you’re against an AD fighter or tank toplane. This item will help you deal extra damage in lane (by its passive) and give you defensive stats.
If you’re against a champion that deals AP damage, I would recommend getting Spirit visage firs. After you have completed your first item, you want to get the other item.
Buy and upgrade your boots either 2nd or 3rd. I recommend either Ninja Tabi or Merc Treads. Purchase Merc if you're against heavy AP or CC. Get Ninja Tabi against a heavy AD team.
Your next set of items should be Thornmail followed by Iceborn Gauntlet. Thornmail is incredibly strong in the current meta. Iceborn Gauntlet is also very good as it gives mana and armor, something that Poppy needs.
For your final item, I would recommend getting Gargoyle Stoneplate. This item is good as it gives MR and Armor. It also increases your health with its passive.
    Example Full Build

Situational Items

    Good item versus heavy AP.
Good tanky item and to catch up.
    Passive is really good.
    Grants armor and health.
    Good Damage/Sustain Item

I would get Sunfire Cape first if you’re against an AD fighter or tank toplane. This item will help you deal extra damage in lane (by its passive) and give you defensive stats. If you’re against a champion that deals AP damage, I would recommend getting Spirit visage firs. After you have completed your first item, you want to get the other item.

Your next set of items should be Thornmail followed by Iceborn Gauntlet.  Thornmail is incredibly strong in the current meta because of the armor and damage it does to enemies. If you're in a hard matchup, I like to get an early bramble vest. Iceborn Gauntlet is also very good as it gives mana and armor, something that Poppy needs.

For your final item, I would recommend getting Gargoyle Stoneplate. This item is good as it gives MR and Armor. It also increases your health with its passive. Remember to activate your stoneplate in team fights to survive for longer!

I would not recommend limiting yourself to just one build path. This is because there are a lot of different items you can build and purchase for toplaners. You should know what your team needs. I have listed what I recommend buying on Poppy below in Item Discussion.

VS

Darius

Medium

To win this line you have to play passive and not let him get free damage on you. In the early levels he is very hard to play against. This is a melee versus melee lane, and he will win if he gets free harass. In short play passive and do not let him harass you, if he miss positions you should E on to him. Make sure not to feed, this will help not only yourself but your team as well.

VS

Fiora

Hard

Playing against this champion is hard because of the damage output and all in potential. You have to Sacrifice CS and play passive, in line to stay relevant. This champion will abuse you at any possible time, you have to respect the damage. You counter this champion with your W because they can dash around, whenever they dash- make sure to use your W and stop them in their tracks.

VS

Gangplank

Easy

This will be an easy match up as long as you do not let him harass you. This champion benefits from using his barrels, so you must deny them whenever you can. You have to time your auto attack correctly to deny it. Beware of his early Q damage and do not let him harass you for free. In this matchup you will need to Sacrifice CS for health.

VS

Garen

Easy

This champion can be frustrating to play against because of his silence. He is not very strong, however do not let that affect your gameplay. You outscale him, so if you can deny him a CS then you will have a very easy time in the mid game. He counters you however he's not very strong, this is a medium match up.

VS

Gnar

Medium

This is a medium match up because of the range advantage. He is also a fighter champion which counters most tank. However you can beat him with your w and your farming capability. You can't are his bouncers, which means he will not be able to get to you or your team. If he comes close to you or your team, knock him away with your ultimate.

VS

Gragas

Easy

This is a Tank Vs Tank match up however Gragas does deal lots of damage because of his CC and abilities. In this lane you want to be very active with your w, and always hit it. You should make sure not to let him roam, and not let him affect other Lanes. If he goes to teleport to another Lane make sure to cancel it. You counter him with your abilities

VS

Malphite

Easy

This is a Tank Vs Tank match up and is a farm lane try to gain a cs advantage and make sure to deny them as much as possible. Beware of the ultimate and do not let them harass you for free. You can stop his ultimate with your w.

VS

Maokai

Easy

This is an easy matchup because he is a tank. Your job is to poke him down and not let him Farm. When he miss positions near a wall, you can E him into the wall causing a stun. Beware of his Sapling placement, and do not hug bushes this is because new Maokai saplings deal extra damage when in bushes - you must position correctly where they do not damage you.

VS

Renekton

VS

Rumble

Medium

In this is match up you must not let him poke you, once he has wasted all his abilities and he has overheated then is your best time to trade with him. Rumble is quite squishy so if you can get him to miss position near the wall then you should go in on him. He is rather an immobile champion and you can use this to your advantage to abuse him in lane.

VS

Shen

Easy

This is a Tank Vs Tank match up and is a farm lane. Try to gain a cs advantage and make sure to deny them as much as possible. Beware of the ultimate and do not let them harass you for free.

VS

Sion

Easy

This is an easy matchup because he is a tank. Depending on what build he goes this can be easy or medium. Usually, this is a farm lane because you cannot kill each other. You can count on his knock up by using your E on him. At level 6 he is frustrating to play against because of his ultimate. Your ultimate can not knock him up while he is in his ultimate phase. When he is six, paying your team to let them know especially your mid laner. If he miss positions early, usu your E to stun him into the wall.

VS

Teemo

Medium

Beware of the range advantage on the enemy champion. You must not let them harass you for free, and you must sacrifice CS experience and health. Teemo is quite squishy so if you can poke him down slightly early, then this land will be easier. If the teemo miss positions then you should knock him into the wall for a stun. Beware of his mushrooms and his blinding dart and I would suggest freezing the wave near your Tower.

VS

Trundle

Easy

In this match up you should not let him poke you and not out trade you. Beware of his Q and his E as well as his ultimate damage. Trundle isn't very strong in the current meta, how about do not let that affect your gameplay. He provides lots of CC for his team by his Q E and Ultimate. You should not let him get the lane advantage, in most situations this will be just a farm lane.

VS

Wukong

Medium

Beware of his early game damage and do not let him harass you for free and beware of his clone. You can counter his E if timed correctly. In this lane you must play passive and be prepared to sacrifice your CS level for health. This line is frustrating to play against because he is a fighter and Fighters do well against tank champions.

VS

Yasuo

Easy

This is a easy matchup because you can't tell him. However, Yasuo is a very snowbally champion and you must not die to him early. In this matchup, I would suggest getting early jungle pressure from your jungler. This will help not only your Lane out, but it will put him so far behind that he will be useless late game. In solo queue he always seems to come out ahead, you can stop him by counting him early and pressuring your advantage.

Tips and Tricks Back to Top

Here are some tips and tricks for Poppy

In the laning phase you should try to harass your enemy as much as possible.

Whenever they come close to terrain, you can E them into the walls.

You can play slightly more aggressive when you have your passive and courage of the colossus up.

You can use your W as a speed boost to catch enemies out of position.

Depending on game scenarios, you may want to instantly cast your ultimate for a quick knock-up.

Beware of your ultimate, if you hold it down for long it will knock enemies far away.
