Summoner Spells Back to Top

All of these work.

TP got nerfed pretty hard and in SoloQ TP is not necessary anyway (people think TP works like in competetive in which you can use TP to set up teamplays and ganks. In SoloQ it doesn't work that way anyway)

The only time when I take TP is against tank toplaners which have great map pressure. Recommended: vs 54.png

Ignite works beautifully because Reks burst is sometimes not enough to oneshot carries.

Exhaust is STRONGER THAN IGNITE. Keep that in mind. Overall exhaust is the 2nd strongest spell in the late game, because it shuts down one person completely, ideally their strongest carry!
In the laning phase it is the best vs any champ that doesn't have periodic damage.  Pantheon, Riven, Wukong...basically anyone. Even if you don't face a burst champ in lane exhaust still offers the most in late game for your team.

Masteries Back to Top

I repeat. This guide is not troll.

2/3 in the ferocity tree once because many people overlook this, but, if you actually do the math on this you can see HOW MUCH HP it gives you back in lane.

Increased CDR important for splitpushing. splitting is one of our main concerns as Rek (which doesn't mean you shouldn't play in team - because with reks tunnels you can literally do both at the same time without even taking TP)

Stormraiders Surge very underrated mastery. In lane it negates the opportunity for the enemy to trade back properly. You blow your load and step back, he can't auto you after that.
After laning phase it's basically a free ghost for you after you do 1000 true damage with your E. Helps you stick to anyone. Mostly kiting adcs.

Q is self explanatory. E second because we are not jungling. We work with tunnels alot and our true damage is our friend vs any armor building tank and any ADC that will get oneshot.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Aggressive level 1 start. Use your potions aggressively in lane, to gain health advantage over your enemy together with your own W sustain. Rek will basically always have more health than the enemy.
Change to this as soon as you are level 9, best trinket for rek'sai top by far.

Core Items

this should be your first back ideally. the best time to go back is when you hit level 6. Set up a tunnel behind your tower to get a free TP back into lane and not miss any minions.
Tiamat --> Black Cleaver boots somewhere in between. this is core for your lane.
get another caulfields after completing your core

Situational Items

these are the 2 possibilities. Chose situational. In late-late game you should turn armour boots into MR boots because of CC reduction. You don't wanna be CC'd late game. Trust me.
Already fed after the early/mid game? GA enables you to continue to play really aggressive.
The have CC? (Pretty much every team has enough CC for this be a good buy) Quicksilver is enough at first, can upgrade it later.
You can go Youmus anytime. That's what you have the second caulfields for.
Finished build in most cases. Yes you can afford this. You are the carry. No you don't have too much damage. Repeat: You are the carry.

If he wins early game, farm safe with Q.

This can be a tough lane in some regards, but after the laning phase is over there is literally no way for him to win against you, BECAUSE you can be in teamfights and splitpushing at almost the same time, while he has to use only teleport and his mind to rotate accordingly.

Set up tunnels top and push him down. If your team needs help, TP to them.
If the fight is over, go back to toplane with your ult. Constantly pressure the map, be CONSTANTLY moving. Be like water basically.

VS

Fizz

Easy

VS

Gangplank

Medium

You can definitely win this lane, tho there are a cuple things to watch out for.

Pre 6:
- Don't walk into his barrels, they do too much damage
- Get bush control, so he can't place his raisemorale.png (E) into it and activate the second one in lane
- You can't kill him in one rotation/ one trade
- You need to do one combo and then disengage, until you have your reksaiE.png ( TUNNEL) back up and can reengage onto him
- Always try to use your Furious Bite when you have 100 Fury, to get true damage

When 6:
- Never stand in his ultimate, you can beat him only if he uses his ult on other lanes, because then he loses all of his lane control over you

The easiest matchup for Rek'Sai TOP

 [5.19]
- what used to be the easiest matchup for Rek'Sai TOP, has not become alot harder, when Riot decided to buff Renekton and give him items like Steraks and Dead Mans Plate.

- Now a medium hard matchup!
- Try to play a little bit defensive early game, until you have at least 1 kill through roaming
- Don't duel him all the time, like all other TOP's
- Renekton will punish you for every mistake that you do, try to play clean and look up your own mistakes.

Rengar

VS

Riven

this matchup changed since season 5 days.

This is easy now instead of medium. Play around her 3rdriventricleave.png. Play aggressive and keep tunneling that toplane.

VS

Rumble

Easy

vs Rumble:

-Farm until you have at least 1 core item before you start taking over the lane
-dont trade him while he is half full of his "ressource" or more
-Autoattack him a lot and try to extend trades as soon as you got bloodthirster

VS

Shen

Hard

VS

Sona

Hard

VS

Tryndamere

Medium

vs Tryn:

- play a bit defensive early game and farm with ranged q
- you outburst him very hard, just keep farming and dueling. If he isnt like 3 0 in lane you will definitely win with your unexpected damage
-tryn cant rotate as fast as you due to your tunnel system and boot upgrade, try to use this as advantage in mid and late game. Make it 4 v5 ;)

Edit 6.1: If you fall behind, you will basically have no impact ( go tank then)

Snowballing starts at level 1 tactic Back to Top

 - currently in work -

Pros & Cons of Rek'Sai TOP with MY playstyle Back to Top

  1. Rek'Sai TOP's strenghts:
  • High and unexpected burst potential in and outside of the lane
  • High splitpush power with tunnelsystem as tools
  • Destroys good matchups completely
  • High dive potential in teamfights, can also peel for carries for a short time
  • Flash engages in teamfights
  • Insane waveclear opens up the opportunity to roam
  • Good farmed = OP, item advantages are BIIIG snowballs
  1. Rek'Sai TOP's weaks:
  • Not very useful if behind hard
  • Other champions become much better than her in TOP lane for people that can't win lanes consistently
  • Loses bad matchups harder and gets snowballes easier than other champions [Only with my AD playstyle]

Who am I? Back to Top

I AM A CHAMPION! Just kidding, referring to a great motivational speech.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yX39J_YyKbs

This is a great motivation if your team decides to open mid and you wanna be ready for the next game :)

SO, LET'S be real.

I am Nihal VPP on EUW. I am 17 years old and I'm from Germany.

I main Toplane and I play alot of special pocket picks in SoloQ, one of them being Rek'Sai TOP. I will make another section called "My approach to the game", so kind of explain myself a little more.

I started playing Rek'Sai TOP early season 5, and I never really touched the champion before that.
However, this season Rek'Sai is my second most played champion and I also found success with my OWN playstyle of her.
Reksai stats s5.png

Only 10 of the 74 games were jungling games, the rest I played TOP.

I got placed into Silver 2 at the beginning of the season, after ending season 3 in Gold 5.
Originally I started playing LoL in summer of season 3, and I didn't really have any clue of the game at all. I mainly played bad champion, built wrong, trusted my teammates and I was mechanically horrible as you can see below ^^

bad in season 3.png

I pretty much had no idead what to play, hovering between TOP, Mid, Adc and support. I didn't know that I should rather stick to 1-2 roles in SoloQ. I had negative winrates all over the place and so I finished the season in Bronce 2

In season 4  I watched alot of YouTube videos that gave tips on how to play ranked, everything from Letsreadsmallbooks to Gbay99 and also RFLegendary and Avaail.

bad in season 4.png

So in season 4 I ended up being Gold 5, which I was pretty proud of, because I managed to climb 2 full leagues.

In season 5 I eventually started getting a grasp of the game and I will be going for Diamond 5 at least before the ranked ladder time is over ;) *** Remember that I play all of my champions TOP, don't get fooled by my Championpool****

Why my guide is always 1 patch behind. Back to Top

Because I think people who update their guides 2 days after  the new patch is out are doing it wrong, since they didn't have time to test their shit at all. Don't worry, if big updates come out I will be the most updated guide still.

Put requests for more matchups and generel ideas in the comments thx Back to Top
