Summoner Spells Back to Top

You take these because you're jungling and flash is the alpha summoner- you can use to escape bad situations as well as engaging catches/teamfights with flash+unburrow.

New Runes Back to Top

Masteries Back to Top

Right now strength of the ages is a super strong keystone and taken on almost every jungler, even squishies like graves and nidalee.

Routing:

With Rek'Sai- I almost always start botside camps (Krugs/Gromp) unless forced otherwise. This way you get a stronger leash from your bot lane, allowing you to sustain better in the jungle for the firsts few levels. After grabbing krugs/gromp, I take my botside buff and head up to my topside buff immediately after. Once you get botside camp/buff, and topside buff- you should be level three with a close to full hp bar and possibly one pot left in your inventory. This is a pretty strong moment to rek'sai and could possibly determine the outcome of the game- so play cautiously. You have a few options at this point, most of the time I'll watch the map and take scuttle for vision control an a speed buff. When I do this, I watch for a few key things: Enemy jungler position (if any), what buffs enemy jungler has (if seen), enemy jungler champion clear potential, and enemy postion on top and mid lane. Say the jungler shows bot with only their botside buff, that means their topside buff is available, therefore i take that opportunity to deny them their topside buff/plant early vision with trinket in their jungle. When I say "enemy jungler champion clear potential", what I mean is basically ask yourself "how well can that champion get through their initial clear/will they have to back and leave their topside buff". If they're playing someone with strong early sustain like elise, gragas, lee sin- odds are you should leave their buff alone. If they're playing a champion that struggles with initial clear like kha'zix or master yi, you can take the opportunity to sneak into their jungle and use your tremor senses to scout them. If you see movement around their buff, try to sneak around the brush and ambush them when they're most vulnerable from battling the buff. This could potentially lead to a first blood and the beginning of your snowball if executed correctly and safely. If you are playing against a champion with good clear, and you're not going to invade- now is the time to check enemy laner positioning in top and mid lane. If one of them is extended, try to come around the back and burrow under them. Most of the time you'll burn the enemy laner's flash or get a kill. If you are able to burn their flash, but they still are dangerously low- I generally take the risk and flash for the kill if my laner can't secure it due to the fact that rek'sai snowballs pretty hard off of first blood, so it generally pays out in the long run. If they're still fairly healthy after you burn their flash, just let them be- you've burned their flash and put your laner at an advantage. Finally, if you don't have good invade potential and top/mid are doing well, run back into your jungle and farm your way from top side back down to botside and look for opportunities there. As you farm your jungle, try to create a network of tunnels for maximum jungle efficiency.

Spikes:
Rek'sai spikes pretty often and has multiple chances to snowball. level 3 gank pressure is very strong given that she is one of few junglers able to farm quickly to level three and be at full hp for a gank. Also- Rek'sai has a very strong spike at level 6 when she gains her passive attackspeed from ulti, as well as when you get your warrior enchantment. When you get your warrior enchant- it makes her full furiosity e do much more damage than anyone would expect, so when you're around level 6/7 and you have your warrior, you'll be at a pretty good place to skirmish if the enemy jungler gets caught in your jungle or river.

Map Control and Pressure:
Use your ulti to take control of the map and provide pressure to lanes. The bigger you are, the more threatened laners feel, and the more passive they'll play in lane since you can be almost anywhere, anytime with your ult. When players begin to play passive in lane, they'll generally miss out on some farm in order to ensure their safety, so once again you're putting your laner at an advantage.

Dragon/Baron Control:
These are huge factors when I'm playing rek'sai. One of the most important things I do when I play rek'sai is dragon control. Dragon and Baron control are huge deciding factors in games, and being in control of those factors points the odds in your favor. Aside from helping lanes, dragon control is the most important factor in the early game. After you've farmed to about level 6/7 and you've purchased your warrior, I also purchase about 2 pots and a pink ward. Use your trinkets to scout the area around dragon and protect from a steal, and use your pink ward to clear the pit. Let your mid and bot know you're going to solo dragon and that if one of their laners leaves, to follow their roam. Most of the time you should be pretty safe, but if someone catches you just try to burrow to safety on your side of the map. The mechanics for soloing the dragon are pretty simple: spam your q when available, use your e when you have maximum furiosity damage, and toggle your w between cooldowns for extra scouting and healing. If there as threat of a steal, always remember the e-smite combo. Since your E does true damage at full furiosity, motior your maximum damage by hovering your e with your mouse and viewing the maximum damage. Since that is true damage, add that to your smite's true damage. When the objective is about 100 hp from the added number of your e+smite damage, begin your e animation. Once the E goes through immediately smite and you should be able to basically outsmite any jungler with the exception of nunu consume+smite. Keep in mind that when you start your e animation, the dps will vary, so late game when people are doing more damage, you might need to start your e animation about 2-300 hp before the objective reaches the e+smite damage total.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Take machete and 3 because It gives you the best early clear and sustain, this will stall you out until you get enough items for your w to sustain you through the jungle completely.

Core Items

Rush your warriors enchantment as soon as you can due to the fact that you hit a power spike if you can farm it quick enough. If you're ahead you can grab your tiamat next, and even grab your titanic if you have the gold needed- but don't build anything past that without boots.
Titanic- titanic is a great item for offtank ad rek'sai. It gives good health, the aoe procs well with rek'sai's q and passive attackspeed from her ulti, as well as a decent amount of damage to scale with your e. Dead man's- this item is really good due to the fact that the speed acts as a gap closer, and the slow acts as an extra cc to help you get your auto's off. Spirit Visage- Spirit visage is one of the best items for rek'sai, given it grants you increased healing for your passive, a decent chunk of mr/health, and 20 percent cooldown to give you more ulti global pressure.
You can take cinderhulk as an alternative to the warrior enchantment, especially when your team needs more tank, or if you get shut down early. This is a stronger alternative to warrior if you miss your early game power spike.

Situational Items

Cleaver- I only build cleaver on rek'sai if I'm fed, it gives you extra damage, movement buff between autos, and a little bit of health so that you're not a complete glass cannon. Also- if you dont wanna build titanic, this is a decent alternative. Randuins- Randuins is about just as good as a dead mans plate, and serves about the same purpose- however I just like the feel of dead man's. This one is kinda up to you. Sunfire- this item can be an alternative to randuins/dead man's, and you can build it if you dont need any more cc/gap closers and want the aoe damage from the cape. Banshees- Basically i build this in addition to the spirit visage if the enemy team has really heavy ap, or if they have either a lot of poke, burst, or catch. It can save you from thresh hooks, blitz pulls, and nid spears, so I deem it a pretty decent item dependent on the situation.

  • Lee Sin
    Medium
  • Nunu
    Hard
  • Rengar
    Easy
  • Zac
    Easy

VS

Elise

Medium

Elise is another champion with very strong early clear, so she's one of the only ones that might be a bit dangerous to fight early. Just try to play around her, set up vision in her jungle, and utilize that vision in order to set up counterganks as much as possible.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

Be mindful of lee sin's early invade potential. A level 2 buff cheese could potentially throw off your early game and cause you to miss your power spikes.

VS

Nunu

Hard

Although nunu is a rather non-meta champ right now, he's very annoying to play against as rek'sai if the enemy jungler knows what he's doing. Nunu has earlier dragon/baron pressure, and generally will invade your camps, so try to keep tabs on him as early and as often as possible.

VS

Rengar

Easy

Rengar is generally pretty weak at the early levels, so then is the time to strike and shut him down. Much like yi- if you set him back, he'll be almost useless in early-mid game.

VS

Zac

Easy

Zac has rather weak damage early and his clear is slow. Most of the time you'll be able to catch him at his topside buff and at least pop his passive. Be careful when you do pop his passive though, because odds are he'll be spamming his laners to come help him- so be mindful of the roam when you're killing his bloblets. On another side note- this seems like common knowledge to me, but may be not understood to others: zac's big jump doesnt make him untouchable. If you unburrow at the right moment while he's in air, you can knock him out of his jump.

Other Matchups Back to Top

Matchups aren't a huge deal when you're jungling in my opinion. You don't really have to worry about any counterpicks like you're in a lane, however you should always be cautious and keep tabs on the jungler. If its someone like nunu or lee, be prepared for an invade and use your tremors to scout when you can. If its someone with weak clear, you can play a bit more aggressive in their jungle. If you see a jungler ganking bot, and you're topside- look for a chance to take their jungle camps.
