Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png You'll want flash. It's the best summoner spell in the game. For Renekton it provides addition to his somewhat limited mobility, and help with canceling animations.

12.png Teleport is nice. It gives you control in lane and pressure to port to other lanes. Also more useful than alternatives in the late game.

14.png Ignite is a kind-of cheesy summoner spell often associated with Renekton. I like running ignite, but it is not mandatory at all. Most of the time you don't even need it for a kill.

New Runes Back to Top

Electrocute.png?width=32Page 1: Simple Electrocute rune page. This is decent into most matchups because Electrocute is easy to proc on Renekton. This page includes some healing runes as well which have to do with this guide's build path. When playing with Electrocute, you want to always look for a fast trade when your rune is up, such as renektonsliceanddice.png + AA + renektonpreexecute.png + renektoncleave.png + renektonsliceanddice.png. That should proc Electrocute for you and deal a nice amount of damage. Using renektoncleave.png is best because this way you heal back what the enemy dealt to you.

Aftershock.png?width=32Page 2: Aftershock on Renekton is very solid. After the change, it doesn't deal as much damage as before but you almost triple your resistances in the early game when this procs. Use Aftershock to win you trades. renektonsliceanddice.png + renektonpreexecute.png when you go in and you proc Aftershock. Then keep trading, as it is very unlikely for your opponent to out-trade you when Aftershock is giving you resistances. Remember to stay near you opponent so Aftershock deals damage to them, too. This rune path also includes many healing runes which have to do with the build included in this guide.

Summoner%20Specialist.png?width=32Page 3: Unsealed spellbook is actually very decent. You gain a lot of freedom on lane to use your valuable spells a lot more freely. You can swap 12.png for 14.png if you get a snowball going, or vice versa. In the late game, 3.png is an ok choice for peeling your carries. The inspiration rune tree is nice as you get the stopwatch without having to choose inspiration as your secondary.

EXTRA NOTES: Remember, you can always swap inspiration for your secondary tree to get stopwatch, which is really strong right now.

You don't have to pick all the healing runes, you can swap Taste%20of%20Blood.png?width=32Ravenous%20Hunter.png?width=32 for Sudden%20Impact.png?width=32Eyeball%20Collection.png?width=32 which are more damage centered.

I don't like sorcery for secondary tree anymore, as it provides just raw damage which is not what wins Renekton his games anymore, IMO.

Precision is a weak tree in my opinion so i don't pick it.

  1. renektonpassive.png - You gain double fury per hit if you're below 50% HP. Good for getting back in to action to get an empowered Q off.
  2. renektoncleave.png - Main source of damage and sustain for Renekton. Take at level one, and max this first. Best ability to use when empowered, as it provides more heal and more damage. NOTE: Use 3077.png just before using renektoncleave.png to get more damage off quickly.
  3. renektonpreexecute.png - Trade or take clutch last hits with this. Take at level 3 and max it last, because the only thing maxing it provides is shortening the CD. Great to use when empowered to assassinate/trade very nicely. NOTE: Can be animation cancelled mid-animation with renektonreignofthetyrant.png or 3077.png!
  4. renektonsliceanddice.png - Gap closer or escape. Your generic dash, but can be used twice if you hit something with it. This can cross most thin walls, but it's a pretty short range, still. NOTE: If you need to escape, step on top of a nearby chasing enemy to dash twice.
  5. renektonreignofthetyrant.png - Nice all-around ultimate. When going all in, use this early to get max damage or very late to bait your opponent. Using early is better, but if you can't catch your opponent and kill him, your ultimate is wasted.

Maxing:

Max Q first, every time. It deals the most damage, heals you and is great AOE. Max E second, it allows you to use combos more often as it is the longest CD you have after ultimate. W maxing is not very good as the only thing it provides is a shorter CD.

NOTE:

You can also take W second, depending on your matchup and their aggressiveness. Always take W second when using Aftershock.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

The best overall starting items at the moment.
Helps rush an item fast. Decent start.
    Safer start.

Core Items

First back options depending on gold.
Get these next for a nice 20%CDR powerspike.
    Your first 2 core items.
Boots options. Get these pretty early on. (Before 2nd item)
Continue with these for a full build.

Situational Items

If your team needs a tank, ditch the last 3 items for some of these.
If you need more healing still.
    If you need MR.

Starting items don't need explaining here.

You need to rush 3044.png. It's a lovely item, it gives nice mobility and makes you beefy while handing a decent amount of AD.
Next you get 3133.png for a nice damage boost. Then you follow up with 3101.png ASAP. This is where you're very strong. Animation cancelling becomes easy with the attack speed and you get 20% CDR.

NOTE: Avoid building 1027.png and 3057.png when going towards 3078.png. Instead of them, get 1036.png1037.png1053.png which go towards 3812.png.

Your first full item should be 3078.png. It's spellblade effect gives you such a nice amount of extra damage when bursting. Remember to look at the cooldown of 3078.png, and use your abilities accordingly if possible to get the maximum amount of damage.

3812.png is your next major item. It's a must. The healing from your abilities becomes absurd after you get this. You become relatively tanky as well because of the other passive.

The next item is to be chosen according to your situation. 3053.png is what I usually go for, personally. It gives you base AD, which helps empower your Spellblade-effect. It also makes you tanky and able to withstand even more burst.

The rest is situational, get tank or damage items depending on what your team needs and your playstyle. I, myself, like to go full AD just so I can burst down backline targets.

VS

Aatrox

Easy

Make quick trades on lane so that he cannot auto attack you back much and build up his damage. Don't let him take creeps without punishment. After dwindling down his HP, go all in. 14.png heavily recommended. Step off when his blood well passive pops, he can duel you with the AS steroid. He will outscale you though. If he 1v1s you consistently without you misplaying too much, stop fighting him.

VS

Ahri

Medium

In fights, try to protect your carries and catch her out if she uses ult stupidly.

VS

Akali

Easy

Do not let Akali farm without punishment. She can't fight you on lane. If she walks up to AA after Q, you win every time. After 6 she can burst you down if she has an item advantage, but as long as you make sure to ult early enough, she shouldn't be able to kill you. If she enters her stealth, Q and E in it. She won't outscale you per se, but can get fed off of roams. Just try to protect your team from her late game.

VS

Alistar

Easy

In fights, just ignore him and go for his carries/peel your team.

VS

Amumu

Medium

If he gets ahead in the jungle or camps you, just play safe. His ganks can be devastating, but if he is behind and you are winning lane, you can 1v2 easily because Amumu has low damage even in the early game. Late game, he will just be an annoying tank.

VS

Anivia

Easy

Try to burst her down in fights when you get the opportunity. She is squishy, but not dive from the middle of their team-squishy.

VS

Annie

Hard

She will be a tanky mage when you eventually meet her in fights. Just try your best to stick to her and keep her from attacking your teammates.

VS

Ashe

Easy

Perfect target. If she's alone, engage by dashing a bit erratically to avoid her ult, she wont be able to run even if you don't dash straight at her. If she is peeled by her team, peel yours and look for opportunities to engage on her.

VS

Aurelion Sol

Hard

When you do meet him, he is a tanky, short range mage. You need to engage on him after him using his Q and for gods sake STAY IN THE CIRCLE of stars around him. Late game he will deal nuking damage and you can't kill him 1vs1.

VS

Azir

Medium

In fights, point him down if possible. Try to get him to use his abilities on you rather than your mates. If it comes down to an 1vs1 with him, dash away from his soldiers with slice and after he moves them, dash away again with dice.

VS

Bard

Easy

In fights, just ignore him and go for his carries/peel your team. He's an annoying champion but not necessarily a threat.

VS

Blitzcrank

Easy

In fights, just ignore him and go for his carries/peel your team. Try to avoid the pull as best as you can.

VS

Brand

Medium

Regardless of role, Brand will have huge damage. He won't necessarily be squishy either. Just try to dodge his abilities and burst him down.

VS

Braum

Easy

In fights, just ignore him and go for his carries/peel your team. He is just a peeling blob of hp but he won't block any of your abilities.

VS

Caitlyn

Medium

She can't kite you out and you can always kill her if she's alone until a certain point. But usually she will have at least a support around her. Don't try to go in if it's not a certain kill or she will kill you. If it gets to a late enough point, she will just shoot you down before you reach her.

VS

Camille

Medium

Lane can go either way. Stick to her if she uses her W so she doesn't heal. Try to trade quickly so she doesn't get the second part of her Q off. After these quick trades, she might try to E away, or after you. If she E's after you, just trade back if you aren't on low HP, she won't be able to run and your CD's are not very long. If you fall behind, be respectful and don't feed her. She will outscale you so watch out for that.

VS

Cassiopeia

Medium

In the fights, you can either burst her down or she will just kill you before you can make any move. If the case is the latter, peel your team.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

Take quick trades and dodge his Q by dashing twice into random locations. You win trades pre-6. Post-6, you will lose if you don't ult quickly enough. Don't let him proc Grasp%20of%20the%20Undying.png?width=32on you many times during trades. You out damage him in the early game as long as he doesn't heal with it. Just try to snowball and deny him creeps as much as you can. He will outscale you eventually.

VS

Corki

Easy

In fights, burst him down if he jumps in with his package or uses W stupidly. He can't beat you 1vs1 until very late, but he will have teammates peeling him usually.

VS

Darius

Medium

Lane can go either way, it's a bit easier for Darius. Your firmest bet is to trade at a constant, quick pace and punish him if he falls behind. Just play at a higher tempo and don't let him control the times of engaging in a trade. Stick close to him when he uses Q. Don't let him get 5 stacks on you. He will just bop you with a couple of AA's or the infamous dunk.

VS

Diana

Medium

Super rare pick, usually such a squishy jungler, that you can 1vs2 if you're winning lane. If you need to escape, though, don't use 2nd dash instantly. Wait for her to use her pull thing and then dash. In fights, protect your team from her assassinations.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Medium
I recommend going 14.png and rushing 3123.png. He won't be able to regen hugely after that. In lane, don't let him take creeps and trade quickly. If he starts piling up the cleaver hits, you will lose trades. Late game, you can't really kill him.

VS

Draven

Hard

Annoying. Try the waters in fights at first, look if you can burst him down. If he ends up outplaying you or just nuking you, peel for your team or go for someone else.

VS

Ekko

Easy

On lane, prevent him from taking creeps at melee range. If he walks up, go in and punish. He can kill you very fast if you don't dodge his abilities or keep an eye on his ghost. He will outscale you eventually.

VS

Elise

Medium

Early ganks can be avoided by dashing away and keeping vision up. You can 1vs2 her and the enemy laner if you're winning lane hard. Late game, she will be a tanky mage and will deal out significant damage. Get her carries or catch her out if she comes too close.

VS

Evelynn

Easy

Easy 1vs2 if you get surprised by her while winning lane. She doesn't deal big damage early and is super squishy. She will be a bit tankier and just annoyingly fast late game. Ignore her in fights if she isn't caught.

VS

Ezreal

Medium

In fights he is just slippery but squishy and can get caught. He will kite you pretty hard but you can catch him. He has the ability to use his E if you stun him a bit too late, so watch out for that.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Easy

His ganks are easily 1vs2-able. If you need to escape though, try with all your might to get behind him. His fear will lose effectiveness then and become a slow.

He likes to go in deep during fights, but is super squishy, so pointing him down is easy.

VS

Fiora

Medium

You win trades pretty easily. When you all in or go for a longer trade, wait until she uses her parry! They will use it eventually to 'Predict' your stun. If she ults you early, just back out and go in once it ends. Fiora will, though, beat you hard as heck if she gets a lead, and if she does not, she will outscale you in the later mid game already, so keep your guard up. Late game you will just need to protect your team when it comes to her, you can't duel her late game.

VS

Fizz

Easy

If you do face a fizz in lane, you will win trades pretty consistently. It is an assassin vs a fighter match up after all. In fights Fizz will be a super slippery target so you need to punish him hard if he fucks up his E.

VS

Galio

Medium

Abstract lane. In theory you always beat him, but Galio can pull out big damage if you are not careful. Don't stand in his Q and punish him for walking up to minions. Galio is super good when someone ganks him. Keep an eye on his playstyle changing and keep vision around your lane.

VS

Gangplank

Medium

You win from the start until a certain point, which you will notice all well when it comes. Just keep going in and slashing his face up until it's too late. Make him suffer while you can. He will outscale you, obviously. In late game you can still kill him if he isn't paying attention, but this is not likely.

VS

Garen

Medium

Avoid trading at level 1. After that, you have a small advantage. He deals a lot of damage and will be very hard to kill. You can do it if you go in when he's used his spells on minions.

NOTE: If he uses E and you stun him, his E will not stop!
NOTE: Ult early if you sense an all-in coming. His ult's damage might surprise you.
Later on Garen will outscale you in tankiness and almost in damage too.

VS

Gnar

Easy

Stay inside your minion wave while he's mini so he can't Q you, and dash/walk around when he's mega so he misses his abilities. If mini walks up to you, go in for a trade but don't chase him unless you can kill him. If mega walks up, don't be afraid. Juke his abilities and you will outdamage him.

Gnar is very good if he gets a gank. He will just pin you to the wall and his jungler can walk up and kill you. He cant kill you alone by only ulting and bursting in mega Gnar, though.
Gnar will outscale you eventually, but can't kill you 1vs1 at any point if you run or fight him.

VS

Gragas

Easy

He is very tanky from the beginning to the end, but can't kill you unless he's very good at the combos. Prevent him from killing creeps all the way through laning phase and try to all in when he goes low enough.

NOTE: Respect Gragas if he is under turret. Under turret his outplay potential is super high and not that hard to execute.

VS

Graves

Hard

His ganks are 1vs2-able if he's not ahead. BUT if he is ahead he can kill you even alone at pretty much any stage of the game. He is pretty slippery and surprisingly tanky. In fights, you just have to burst him down, or protect your team by tanking damage.

VS

Hecarim

Medium

You outdamage him early to mid game. If he ganks you, you can kill him and the top laner if you are ahead. He will outscale you when he gets more items, though.

VS

Heimerdinger

Hard

When trading, try to dash trough and Q his turrets along with him. He is weak without his turrets, but if you fail to kill them, the damage will just pile up quickly. He outscales you and can even 1vs2 ganks when he gets his zhonya.

VS

Illaoi

Easy

Side-step Q's, and kill tentacles if you have CD's. If she uses E on you, trade with her hard. Don't let her kill the ghost or you will be zoned out of her vicinity for the duration of the curse. When you all in, use your mobility to your advantage, and when she ults, walk out of the circle if she isn't instantly dead after the cast. If she gets ahead, respect her and do not try to kill her alone anymore.

VS

Irelia

Medium

She will outscale you fast, but you have the edge before she gets tri-force and her other spikes. Stun her all the time you can and go for trades. When she uses W to trade basic attacks, back off.

VS

Ivern

Easy

Ivern has absolutely no damage and all he provides is shields and CC. Don't mind him in fights, just go for his mates. His ganks are easily 1vs2-able if you have even a small edge on your laner.

VS

Janna

Easy

A great example of a peeling support. You don't need to point her down or mind her, rather go for her teammates or protect your own.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium

You both are very strong early game champions, but IMO Renekton is slightly stronger. The lane can be won by both, but your key is to go for longer trades because Jarvan's usually run TLD keystone and Fervor has an edge over TLD in long trades.

NOTE: Do not dive him unless his ult is on CD it's a sure kill and the HP advantage of yours is immense. J4 can outplay super hard under towers.

VS

Jax

Medium

Intriguing matchup. Renekton has the advantage, but Jax can outplay Renekton with a few steps. Try to get him to use his Q while in his E without dashing yourself. If Jax gets a long enough trade he will just mess you up. He will outscale you at a certain point in which you can't 1vs1 him anymore.

VS

Jayce

Hard

Jayce will face you mostly in cannon form to poke you from range. He can't win a trade unless he uses all of his 6 abilities effectively. If he gets ahead, don't let him get fed.

NOTE: If the opposing Jayce likes to spam all his abilities and still stays in cannon form (doesn't get mana from basics), he will run out of mana very rapidly, whittle down his mana pool and go in after he is low on mana.
TIP:If he walks into range of 1 DASH. Go in. Quickly stun him, Q and get as much damage in as you can before he whacks you away.

VS

Jhin

Easy

An easy kill for you if he's alone, even if peeled. Don't be afraid of him but beware if his whole damn team sits on him.

VS

Jinx

Medium

A pretty easy kill. If you try to catch her, do everything you can to get behind her and stick to her so her E is harder to land for her.

At a certain point though, she will just shoot you a few times and you are dead. Just peel your team if this point is reached.

VS

Kalista

Easy

Annoying to catch due to the constant jumping and the ability to literally throw a support on you, but you can catch her out if she's isolated from peeling.

VS

Karma

Medium

Annoying champion. Doesn't deal as much raw damage as other mages, but she is very mobile and has so much utility to compensate for it. She is catchable, but it's pretty hard if you are alone. Don't bother to chase her unless the kill is sure.

VS

Karthus

Medium

There's two ways a Karthus goes;

1:He goes full damage. In this case, go for him all the time and you can kill him for sure and most of the time get away with it too.
2: He goes tanky on top of the damage. You cant one-shot him and in this time that you combo him he has already almost killed you. This time, even if you get him killed, you won't get away with it.

VS

Kassadin

Medium

In the later stages where you meet him, he will deal huge damage and be pretty tanky. You can kill him if you do it fast enough though.

VS

Katarina

Easy

Constantly keep an eye on 2 things considering Katarina. Her daggers and herself. Look at her positioning and be ready. When she jumps in, hop away, or stun her fast. Don't let her ult land on you. You can kill a Katarina at any stage of the game 1vs1 unless she is super fed.

VS

Kayle

Medium

Play a bit back, like inside of your caster minions and go for quick trades whenever she comes in for a poke with her E and your CD's are up. You win these quick ones, but she will come after you with vengeance. You can turn around once your CD's are up again. You win all-ins as long as you ult and ignite early enough (e.g. when you know it'll be an all-in). She will outscale you and you cant really prevent her from taking minions.

VS

Kayn

Medium

You can 1vs1 him because he is pretty squishy, but don't 1vs2 on ganks because he has insane damage and can just step into a wall if it gets sticky for him. I haven't had much experiences with Kayn, but you need to watch everywhere for traces of his position because he can come from anywhere.

VS

Kennen

Easy

You can beat this guy regardless of his build and you don't need to adjust your strategy according to his. Stand in your minions all the time. If he comes to basic attack you, or god forbid, E's on you, go in for a trade. Force him to use his E and if he willingly does it, just trade. All-ins are a win for you if you ult early enough. If you don't, he will stun you and burst you pretty fast before it's over.

One con is that you can't prevent him from taking minions.

VS

Kha'Zix

Easy

Squishy jungler, you can 1vs2 his ganks if he's not ahead. You need to simply stay in your minion wave. If he is ahead, just run. Kha'Zix lacks hard CC so you can evade his ganks easily. Late game, protect your teammates from him.

VS

Kindred

Medium

You can 1vs2 ganks from them pre-6. Post-6, though, their ult will always win the gank for the enemies. Kindred can be annoying in fights by just constantly hopping around and kiting. She is very squishy though, and can be bursted down by even you alone.

VS

Kled

Hard

The lane is on a hair's balance. You as Renekton can't let him snowball on you. On the contrary, you can't properly snowball off of a decent Kled because he's so darn tanky and will outscale you pretty fast. He has trouble killing you if you don't let him poke you constantly without punishment.

VS

Kog'Maw

Easy

One of the easiest kills for you until the point where you can't even reach him before you're dead. He will receive peeling, and you can't just rush him head on. You need to look for good opportunities to engage him, or just protect your team.

VS

LeBlanc

Medium

If she's not very fed, she can't burst you dead at any point of the game. But you can't kill her either unless her W is on cooldown. She can kill you over a little time but her damage on you will fall off. Focus on protecting your team from her assassinations.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

One of the heaviest damage dealers in the early game, but also surprisingly squishy. You can 1vs2 ganks from Lee unless he is fed early, but you need to point him down. His damage will fall off even faster than yours, so he's not that big of a lategame threat.

VS

Leona

Easy

A support that either likes to engage in fights, or peel her carries. You need to ignore her  if you go for those carries.

VS

Lissandra

Easy

Not very dangerous damage-wise in the early game. Go for fast trades and abuse her W cooldown. She can't kill you alone, just ult early enough. But she plays very well into ganks and is hard to gank herself so winning lane is pretty much up to you.

VS

Lucian

Medium

Very strong ADC, he is very mobile, can kite, shoots a TON of basic attacks in a very short time and on top of that he's not even that squishy. If you see him using his CDs on someone, he is pretty free to kill. He might or might not get peeling, the less the better.

In the very late game it's not even worthy for you to try a duel with him.

VS

Lulu

Medium

The most irritating support in the game. If you see her top, just play in your caster minions until she uses CD's on minions and go for trades. In teamfights you need to just ignore her and go for the carries or protect your team.

VS

Lux

Medium

Dash erratically when you engage her to make skillshots harder to land for her. She is easy to kill but you are easy to kill for her too. You can try to go for her in fights when she uses some of her abilities.

VS

Malphite

Medium

Go and trade constantly on lane and prevent him from all contact with creeps. He can not kill you alone, and doesn't play well into ganks without ultimate. Do not dive him without a sure kill because he can outplay you under tower with his ult. He will never be able to kill you 1vs1 but will just be too tanky for you to kill later on.

VS

Malzahar

Easy

When you meet him, he can't kill you with one burst. If he runs from you, even through the jungle, you can always dash to him because of the constant voidlings popping up in front of him. Late game, he will be a nuisance to deal with but it's definitely possible. You may burst him down with your team or just protect the team from his damage.

TIP: E on top of him or even Q before stunning to get rid of his shield.

VS

Maokai

Hard

Maokai is pretty hard to beat. Don't put your trust in it. If he wastes a q on minions, go in fast and deal your damage and get out. He can outtrade you very easily because he jsut keeps you in place and heals everything you deal to him. Just try to farm, freeze and call for a gank if things get sticky with him. Maokai plays very well into ganks, too. You will get out-tanked by him late game. He won't kill you 1vs1 at any time, but he will be more useful to his team late.

VS

Master Yi

Hard

This guy is such a pest. It could be just me, but I really hate playing against an Yi. He deals super-heavy damage at any point of the game with a few AAs and alpha strike deals big damage too. You can't 1vs1 him if you aren't snowballing, and his ganks are really tricky to 1vs2 because of alpha strike. Late game you can't even think about it. Stick to protecting your team by stunning the Yi.

VS

Miss Fortune

Medium

Easy to kill until the very late game. Your potential to kill MF depends on the peeling that she's getting. If you can't even get close to her through a front line, just stick to defending your team.

VS

Mordekaiser

Hard

Morde is hard to deal with because he can poke at you from a range, and usually, poking at a Renekton from such a range means a punishing combo from the croc. Morde, though, gets a shield from that poke and Renekton's damage is mostly mitigated. Just try to stand a bit back so his E doesn't land on you.

NOTE: DO NOT let him land the 3rd Q on you. Do everything in your might to not let him land it.
NOTE: This, again, is from my POV. You might learn to deal with a Mordekaiser, but in my opinion, this is one of the hardest champions to face as Renekton.

VS

Morgana

Medium

Very annoying. Stun her when she ults and point anyone who hasn't got her shield on them. She doesn't deal heavy damage to you whether she's in mid or as a support. You can kill her, but if she lands a Q while you chase her, just forget about it.

VS

Nami

Medium

Nami won't be a threat to you, but the utility she provides to her team is immense. You're best off ignoring her and focusing on killing others, or protecting your own team.

VS

Nasus

Medium

No matter what Nasus maxes, the template is the same in this match-up. As Renekton, you need to abuse him, deny him of farm and snowball off of him early to mid game. Then there is one point in time which depends on the success of Renekton's methods and Nasus' defiance to these. After this point, Renekton just loses to Nasus despite his best efforts and can't beat him in a duel anymore. Unfortunately, with the addition of Kleptomancy.png?width=32disease this will come even earlier. After this you, as Renekton, need to move to helping your team full-time.

VS

Nautilus

Easy

You beat Nautilus in the early game duels, always. Nautilus plays extremely well into ganks, though. If his jungler camps you, there is no way to play aggressive. Nautilus' tankiness will allow him to survive long enough for him jungler to arrive from any hole he is residing in. TL;DR - Play super aggressive unless his jungler camps you.

VS

Nidalee

Easy

Nidalee's ganks are 1vs2-able if you're a bit ahead, and if Nidalee is not. She lacks hard CC and you can duel her at any point in the game up until the very late stages.

VS

Nocturne

Easy

Pretty easy to deal with. You can kite out of his E and wait out his W or just destroy it with your E. His damage falls off at a similar pace as yours, and you can duel him unless he is snowballing.

VS

Nunu

Medium

His ganks are easy to escape from, even 1vs2 when the circumstances are right. But when the game goes on for a long time, you eventually cannot even duel Nunu because of his short CDs and tankiness.

VS

Olaf

Medium

DO NOT FIGHT LEVEL 1 YOU WILL LOSE HE WILL HAVE 2.5 AS AND YOU CANT KILL HIM MARK MY WORDS. In lane, you beat him by moving randomly to avoid axes and going in for fast trades in which you don't let him AA you much. Post-6 he can win due to you not being able to stop him from Auto-attacking you.

If he is in the jungle, don't try to 1vs2 in ganks unless youre snowballing heavily. You can escape easily, because Olaf doesn't have hard CC.

In both cases, you will get smacked by him in the late game. Don't try to duel him.

VS

Orianna

Medium

You can catch and burst her out due to your mobility. But the later the game goes, the harder she will hit. In teamfights she obviously has a bigger role than you due to her ultimate. You can kill her at any stage of the game, but she can duel you better and better with time. Value your chances depending on the peeling and what cooldowns she has up.

VS

Ornn

Medium

This guy. He's actually not that bad at the moment with you being able to stun him in his ornnw.png, but still try to stand away from his ornnq.png pillar, dash behind him FAST when he uses ornnw.png, when he pressesornnr.png, dodge it by standing a bit away from Ornn or stunning him when he's about to headbutt it. If he applies brittle on you and cant pop it, stand back and wait for it to end. In the late game, you can't hurt him.

VS

Pantheon

Medium

Considered to be one of, if not the strongest early game champion. In this lane, Pantheon has many advantages, for example, his crits, ranged poke, certain hits on every one of his abilities. But Renekton can win the lane for he has one key advantage, his tankiness. You can trade with Pantheon by just dashing up, face-tanking his abilities, disabling his shield, then doing your combo.

TIP: Start with 1054.png so his spears won't hurt you so much before you unlock your full combo.
You outscale Pantheon and will be more useful to your team later on (depending on Panth's build a bit).

VS

Poppy

Medium

Annoying to face because you can't kill her constantly. She can just prevent you from killing her so well. But she cannot kill you either, that's a good thing. You can prevent Poppy from taking minions, and even kill her a couple of times by dwindling her health down bit by bit.

Later on, you can't kill her at all. Nor her team, if she so desires.

VS

Quinn

Hard

Quinn is one of few ADCs who get taken top from time to time. In this match up, you can't really engage on her unless she uses her E stupidly. Just play back and try not to die. Ask for ganks and if you actually get a lead, keep that lead with any power you have.

VS

Rakan

Medium

Rakan doesn't deal damage, but he is such an annoying creature. He is slippery, mobile, heals, shields, CCs and charms your whole team. You must ignore him and hit his carries. He is not a direct threat, and definitely easier to kill when he's got no one left.

VS

Rammus

Medium
Early game, you really don't want to deal with his ganks, he's got too much CC. Try to escape from him by dashing or going around behind him, so he can't knock you into his desired direction.

In the late game, Rammus won't be there to kill you, he just wants to protect his team or take the pain from yours. Do not point him though. Go for the real damage dishers. Or, alternatively, lure Rammus to hit you and not restrict your team.

VS

Rek'Sai

Medium

Her ganks are annoying and if you're not heavily snowballing, don't try to 1vs2.

If she's top, go for fast trades and don't let her E you at full fury. Her ult can kill you, but you can kinda counter her ult with your own.

VS

Renekton

Medium

Just a match where the one to misplay or handle the combos worse will lose. 14.png grants a pretty big edge.

VS

Rengar

Easy

DO NOT TRY TO LIONHUNT AT LEVEL 1 HE WILL JUMPJUMPJUMP AND YOU DIE MARK MY WORDS. If he's top, he will constantly be trying to jump on you. And that is not bad, he is giving you a free trade. Just stand away from bushes when your abilities are on CD.

Rengar's ganks from the jungle are pretty easy to 1vs2 for he lacks hard cc (except for bola but it doesn't prevent you from attacking) and is pretty squishy.

Later on, he can burst you down fast if he is fed.

VS

Riven

Medium

You outdamage Riven in straight-up trades, but make sure to play back if she tries to engage and you don't have all abilities off CD. If you get a lead, use that lead. Prevent her from having anything without punishments. If she kills you, respect her lead and don't feed her.

VS

Rumble

Easy

If you don't trade constantly on Rumble and play aggressive, he will outdamage you, but if you keep up with him you beat him easily. Do respect his ultimate in all-ins, it's damage is huge if you stand in it.

VS

Ryze

Easy

Stand in your minion wave to mitigate his poke. If he walks too close (one dash range) go in and stun him fast so he can't run away while you're rooted. If he ever uses his W on a minion, just go in for a trade. You outdamage and out-tank Ryze earlier on, but in the late game Ryze will be stronger.

VS

Sejuani

Medium

Super annoying jungler with alot of CC. Don't 1vs2 her ganks unless she and her toplaner are severely behind. In fights, it's not worth to point her unless she is killing your carries.

VS

Shaco

Medium

When shaco ganks, you can 1vs2, but keep an eye on where he's put his boxes. If you get spooked by multiple of them, you just die. Shaco's damage will fall off even faster than yours, so you can duel him at any stage of the game.

VS

Shen

Medium

On lane, keep an eye on his blade! All the time! DO NOT get yourself in between it and Shen. If he gets the empowered Q, he will win a trade. Otherwise, you beat him always. Wait out his W and don't stun him instantly. Don't go for long trades as he will easily take an empowered q trough you and proc Grasp%20of%20the%20Undying.png?width=32 many many times. Shen will be just too tanky for you to kill in the late game.

VS

Shyvana

Medium

Her ganks you can usually 1vs2 because she doesn't have a lot of hard CC. You can beat her in duels whenever it's early, but she has a better late game.

VS

Singed

Medium

Two ways that a Singed will play:

#1: Proxy. In this case, don't try to kill him. Just go for your own waves on lane because you gave good wave clear and sustain. If he doesn't show up to lane at all, rush 3077.png for better wave clear.

#2: He will play in lane. In this case, you win trades if you don't run after him all the time. You can actually force him away from creeps by just playing aggressive.

In either case you won't be stronger than him late game. More useful, maybe, but you can't kill him 1vs1.

VS

Sion

Medium

You win by using your mobility and playing at a higher tempo than Sion. Do not underestimate his damage from anything. Your key to win is to trade always when it's possible. He won't keep up with you. He will be hard to kill, but you can do it.

Later, he will be just super tanky, and you can't kill him.

VS

Sivir

Medium

She can kite you, but if you get on top of her, she's dead. If she uses E, break it with your E or Q. Get her in fights if she's alone. If she's not, just protect your team.

VS

Skarner

Medium

His ganks are annoying early, but you can 1vs2 if you have a lead. You can duel him at all times, but in late game you don't want to point him unless you're peeling and he tries to get your carries.

VS

Sona

Medium

You have to ignore her and kill her team as she is not a direct threat to you. Sona can be annoying though because she has a lot of damage and a pretty big CC.

VS

Soraka

Medium

Tell your ADC to build 3123.png and she will be pretty useless. Don't point her in fights if she doesn't get caught.

VS

Swain

Medium

He will poke at you from range, but you can abuse him because his range is very short. 14.png always recommended against him, 3123.png if you struggle. Swain will be stronger than you later, but you have an edge earlier.

VS

Syndra

Medium

If you see her using her abilities on others and she's alone, you can kill her at any time. She can burst anyone down late game, but you will have to take it for yourself or go in once shes bursted someone else.

VS

Tahm Kench

Medium

If Kench is supporting, he will be tanky and protect his team. Ignore him the best you can and go for his allies.

If Kench is top, don't take long trades where he gets 3 stacks on you. If he does, he will win the skirmish.

Late game he will be tankier than you and you won't be able to duel him.

VS

Taliyah

Medium

You can kill Taliyah when you meet her, but she is incredibly mobile, so watch out for that. If you engage her, dash behind her and don't dash inside her minefield. In the late game you can't get close to her if she has her abilities up.

VS

Talon

Easy

Talon is an easy opponent to deal with. Early on, you both have similar damage, but Renekton is tankier by far. If he ever uses Q on you, instantly stun him and combo him. If he stays back and only uses W to farm, freeze lane and force him to walk up to minions and go for him whenever he does.

Late game he can burst you, but most of the time he shouldn't be hitting you.

VS

Taric

Medium

Taric's pretty annoying but generally won't mean trouble. Dash trough his stuns and if you see him ult, turn away as the invulnerability fades, then go back in.

VS

Teemo

Medium

Against teemo you need to stay back whenever your E is not up. You outdamage him even when you wait out the blind to stun him. After level 6, don't bother chasing him into brushes or down the river.

VS

Thresh

Easy

Thresh wont deal mortal damage to you, ever. He will only help his teammates do it. This is why you need to point those teammates out before Thresh.

VS

Tristana

Medium

Tristana will kill you or kite you hard if you don't engage her as her W is on CD. Your dashes simply aren't enough to catch her through her W+R+Flash. You cant run from her very well either. The only good thing is that you can get her killed easily if you do it at the right time.

VS

Trundle

Medium

This lane is looked at as Renekton's hardest counter, but you can get a Trundle to kneel pretty easily. Wait for him to Q creeps, always. When he puts down his W, don't fight in it. When he ults, back up from fighting him. He will outscale you fairly quick, but you can take advantage of him with your mobility.

VS

Tryndamere

Easy

You will beat him always pre-6. You can take long trades against him, just kite back into  your minion wave and he will take that aggro. Post-6 you win as well if you have a lead. His ult won't be enough for your damage.

Later on Trynda will just bop you on the snout if you try to mess with him, so don't.

VS

Twisted Fate

Easy

He won't burst you down if he's not insanely fed, but you can kill him fast at any point of the game. In the late it's a solid strategy to try and point him if he's not completely useless.

VS

Twitch

Medium

In fights where you meet him, get him. Just fucking get him. If he flanks you, collapse on him. Twitch needs to get put down quick before his damage piles up.

VS

Udyr

Easy

If Udyr is top, you can use his short range to your advantage and zone him early. He will creep up on the damage and tankiness, though, so you need to respect him when he hits spikes.

If he's jungle, run if you can when he ganks. He has pretty minimal hard CC so escaping isn't a huge problem. He will be able to duel you in the late game due to his tankiness.

VS

Urgot

Medium

Pretty easy match up. Don't dash behind him and avoid dashing in general unless his urgote.png is down. When going for an all in, if he hits you with urgotr.png, run or collect fure and use empowered renektoncleave.png in a minion wave to get a lot of hp back.

VS

Varus

Easy

You kill Varus everytime you see him alone. There's very little chance of him dueling you if he's not horribly ahead.

VS

Vayne

Hard

When you meet her, she is usually able to duel you already. Her kit just counters fighters and tanks very well and she can kite you all day long. Your safest bet is to take her down with your team.

VS

Veigar

Easy

Very squishy mage, yum yum. Make sure to dash on top of him fast so his E will be harder to land properly. If it gets late enough, he can kill you in duels, but he really shouldnt be pointing you in fights.

VS

Vel'Koz

Easy

Easy kill, dash on top of him and his abilities and burst altogether will be hard to land. He can kill you easily from range and if he's protected so be careful.

VS

Vi

Medium

Vi is pretty squishy early game so you can 1vs2 when she ganks if she isn't ahead. Escaping ganks from Vi isn't hard pre-6 but after she gets her ultimate the lockdown is super long.

In fights, protect your mates from her dives.

VS

Viktor

Medium

Super bursty mage, but he is also squishy as hell. You can catch him easier once he's used his W on something else.

VS

Vladimir

Easy
14.png Strongly recommended! Vlad is easy to deal with, his damage is very minimal if you don't let him use his 3rd Q on you! The Q where he gets a MS buff is super dangerous and heals him a ton. You outdamage Vlad and his sustain can be annoying but you can deal with him.

Late game Vlad will just outsustain you.

VS

Volibear

Medium

When he's top; Take trades where he can't get his 3rd stack of Frenzy on you. Watch out for big burst damage in all-ins and you're good.

When he's jungle; Just run from ganks. He will simply be too tanky to 1vs2. Dont dash right away, dash after he's used his Q. If he holds his Q, run away at first and then quickly double-dash when he can't reach you with Q before you get to safety.

VS

Warwick

Medium

Don't 1vs2 ganks from WW unless you're extremely ahead. Dueling him is hard at any point of the game, too. If you think he's coming, play a bit back and wait until you see him on the map. Don't take risks with this guy.

VS

Wukong

Medium

Skill matchup. Use your tankiness and multiple dashes to your advantage. Also wait for him to use W to use your stun or stun him instantly. Change the timing a bit so he can't predict your stun.

VS

Xayah

Medium

When you meet Xayah, she usually already has heavy damage. To catch her, engage at an odd angle to avoid the feathers from rooting you. Difficult to catch even alone, so just stick to killing her in teamfights.

VS

Xerath

Easy

Easy to kill, immobile mage. Kill him whenever he steps away from his team.

VS

Xin Zhao

Easy

Facing him top; If he engages on you, stun him instantly and take the trade.

If he plays safe, freeze the lane, zone him and punish for him walking too close to you.

Late game, Xin will destroy you unless he's completely without abilities.

If he's jungle, you can 1vs2 when he ganks if you are ahead by pointing him down first.

VS

Yasuo

Easy

Play safe until you unlock all 3 of your abilities. After that, you have the advantage. You just simply outdamage him. This is because you have 3 damaging abilities, a guaranteed hard CC and you are way tankier than him. Use these to your advantage while you can. Late game Yasuo will kill you with a few AAs.

VS

Yorick

Medium

Avoid his E with dash and go in anytime you have all 3 abilities up. You can outdamage him but you need to avoid super long trades as his ghouls' damage will pile up over time. Your AoE damage will help with his minions.

Yorick will outscale you in the late game.

VS

Zac

Medium

He is squishy and has no damage in the early game, but don't 1vs2 if he ganks. The CC is too much from Zac. You won't die to him in a duel at any time of the game, but later on you can't kill him due to his tankiness.

VS

Zed

Medium

In fights, protect your team from his assassinations, and if he duels you;

If he starts with ult, dash away from his ult shadow instantly and then fight.

If he starts with W+other abilities, burst him and kill him then and there.

VS

Ziggs

Medium

Annoying at range, but he can't do much to you if you get on top of him. In later stages, his damage to you will be big and if you can't get to him, protect your team instead.

VS

Zilean

Medium

A darn annoying champion. If you get on top of him, you will force his ult or kill him. But there are many ways he can stop you from doing that, so you shouldn't point him down first if there are other carries.

VS

Zoe

Hard

If you're using spellbook, get 1.png. In any case, buying 3139.png will help. Just try to take as many bullets (zoeq.png) for your team later on. Also, try to run/chase so that there's never a wall between you and 142.png.

VS

Zyra

Medium

Usually played at support but mid will deal the same damage anyway, so mid lane Zyra doesn't need a separate mention here.

Don't focus Zyra unless she's doing something stupid. Go for her carries because she is fairly easy to kill and can be dealt with after other targets.

Early game Back to Top

Constantly trade if the matchup is not hard. Abuse your enemies like the lane bully you are. Don't let them get to creeps without a combo from you.

Combos for early game

renektonsliceanddice.png + renektoncleave.png + renektonpreexecute.png + renektonsliceanddice.png is the usual fast trade that I mention in match-ups. If you execute this combo fast enough, your opponent has no way to hit back at you. NOTE: The second E cast is for escaping, not continuing.

renektonsliceanddice.png + AA + renektoncleave.png + AA + renektonpreexecute.png + AA + renektonsliceanddice.png is a longer trade, in which your opponent can retaliate easily enough. Make sure to do your best at cancelling your AA animations with spell casts, this will make the trade faster. This trade is the beginning of an all in. You may use the second E to escape or continue behind your opponent and keep attacking.

If you get ahead

Try to kill your opponent if they get into range of one renektonsliceanddice.png. If they play back, freeze the lane. This means only last hitting so the opponent doesn't get CS because they can't walk up. Don't be afraid to sacrifice a frozen lane to kill your enemy. If they go back, roam or die: push the lane. Your AoE damage allows you to quickly shove the minions in to the enemy's tower. Then push on the tower or roam yourself. Remember to always ping to where you think your enemy is going.

If you fall behind

This is the quite unfortunate truth; If you die early nowadays as Renekton, you likely won't be able to kill your opponent on lane anymore. That being said, you're still pretty hard to kill. If you have, say, a minion lead, you're actually pretty much even with your opponent. So just take everything you can without feeding more. Test the waters, see how much you can grab or if you've lost at all.

After laning Back to Top

When does laning end?

This is individual for every game. For Renekton, laning ends when you feel like it, or when you can't duel your opponent anymore. Some enemies like 122.png or 80.png you can always solo kill, providing you're even or ahead with them.

What to do when laning ends?

See what your team is doing. If they're fighting constantly, fight with them. If they are playing the farming game, or passively, you can split push very effectively. Remember this; When you see enemies leave their positions to come and stop you from pushing, join your team or walk back up the lane and wait until you can push again.

Note::

This Renekton build doesn't split push as effectively as for example a 3748.png + 3071.png build would. It's more about going and killing enemy backline while still staying alive yourself.

Team fighting / Late game Back to Top

Late game

Follow the same order as the mid game, do what your team does. Split pushing is always an option when your 12.png is up. Remember though, you are a weak champion in the late game. Play very carefully when splitting / roaming the jungle.

Team fights

With this build, you want to be looking for a flank and waiting for some engagement. Then strike on the enemy back line damage dealer. Alternatively, you can engage yourself but this usually means having to burn 4.png. You are surprisingly (to the enemy) tanky with your items later on so being frontline works decently too. Remember too, that if they point you, your other teammates have time to kill the enemies.

If you are completely useless

Some times, you might be an actually useless member on your team. You can't assassinate anyone, the frontline just ignores you, you can't splitpush at all. In these cases, you must just put your tail between the enemy and your team's damage dealer. This means just peel for your 96.png or the like. Even if you can't do anything, you still have some HP and a point and click stun. Use everything in your arsenal to stop the enemies from eating your beloved space caterpillar friend.

TL;DR: You have the best effect working as a beefy assassin, like for example 80.png would.

Ending notes Back to Top

Remember, this build focuses heavily on being a burster and dishing out a lot of damage. Don't expect to be very tanky as this build's tankiness revolves around healing massively from your abilities.

Renekton can be built in almost all ways that any old ad champ could. Here's my personal explanation of why I don't build other paths.

3074.png3071.png - I tried this build for a while with Ingenious%20Hunter.png?width=32 and I say it's fine. But in my opinion, building black cleaver first item doesn't help as much as Trinity Force. Sure, it's cheaper, but it doesn't provide nearly as much damage. If you buy it against a tank, chances are they already can duel you when you finish Black cleaver. I can't make that build work and it kind of feels bad because this build, 3748.png/3074.png+3071.png helped me climb through lower divisions to platinum. But now it seems like this guide's way is the only way I can make Renekton work anymore.

3147.png - I tried this in the preseason too, when i noticed that the usual ^ wouldn't work anymore. Building full assassin apeshit will make for a fun time, sure, but it leaves you so squishy that you die whenever an enemy champ sees you with your renektonsliceanddice.png on cooldown.

3143.png - Essentially a full tank build. This I tried too for some games, running Grasp%20of%20the%20Undying.png?width=32, but I felt so powerless when an enemy carry would just tear me apart and I wouldn't deal any damage at all. I'll just say this, Renekton is not a tank. He's a bruiser, he needs AD to work with.

3087.png3031.png - Crit chance usually requires you to mainly use auto attacks, and as Renekton, you should prefer to use abilities more. This build provides a lot of wave clear and damage, but it's mostly on you AAs. You're not a marksman.

3153.png3124.png - On-hit builds work well on some champions, not 58.png. You need to use your auto attacks to make use of the onhit items. This seems fine, you always weave in some autos here and there. The problem with these items is that they don't provide enough raw stats to make you strong.

My personal thoughts on Renekton at the moment (8.2)

Do I think Renekton's a weak champion right now? No, while he's not as strong as he used to be in season 7, he definitely isn't bottom of the litter trash that loses to everything. With this build, I've found a purpose for picking Renekton again other than him being my favourite champion to play.

What happened with Renekton in between the days of him being very good and oftenly picked to being a non-meta "weak" lane bully? I'm not claiming to be an expert here, but in my opinion it's the safer early game and overall faster scaling of champions.
Everyone in season 8 can now bully people out of lane. The changes have been crazy. I've seen 41.png getting a 4 minute sheen and bopping a top laner in the face with 200 damage every 3 seconds. It's just that Renekton's role has become non-unique. Before, if you wanted to get a champ that could dominate lane and make the enemy top laner useless, you'd go for 58.png122.png80.png etc. But these days 57.png and 98.png can do the same, and still be extremely useful in the late game. Renekton etc. can still do this a little bit better but you need fast mechanics and skills to make it work. And as those lane bully champions you don't have the option of sitting back and scaling up like a 57.png would.

Why play Renekton if his role is fulfilled by so many better champions? I like playing Renekton. He's my favourite champion. And I worked for the whole preseason to find myself a way to play him in a way that I enjoy it and in a way that I can be useful in games, and this guide's way is it. I just wanted to share this, sorry if it's hard to read or something like that.

Thanks to all the wonderful educational Renekton players out there, and thanks to reddit.com/r/renektonmains for existing, I found out a lot of stuff about 58.png from you all.

Thanks to you for reading my guide, I hope you can make some use of it and enjoy 58.png among all these crazy changes.
