Summoner Spells Back to Top

You will need to run teleport nowadays since it's part of the "meta". It's not the fact that its part of the "meta" that you have to run it, but because since EVERY other Top Laner will be running Teleport that you need to run it as well to be able to keep up the split push in the late game and the teleports to bottom lane in the early game .

Junkyard Titan (Passive):

So this is your passive, basically at all times you wanna spam your abilities and keep it around 40-50 so when you want to go yolo ham rambo on the other dude then you will overheat when you use all three and ending with flamespitter. When you overheat your auto attacks do tons of damage. Make sure you use your ultimate before getting overheated or else you will be silenced and be unable to cast your ultimate when the time is crucial.

tumblr_n2qss3Unvf1s8166so1_500.gif
tumblr_n2qss3Unvf1s8166so4_r1_500.gif

Flamespitter (Q):

This is your main damage, max it first. When laning, you can use it to harass melee champions when they come up to cs however it will push your lane. When you start bullying the other laner make sure you overheat with Flamespitter to maximize damage.

tumblr_n2qss3Unvf1s8166so2_r1_500.gif
tumblr_n2qss3Unvf1s8166so5_r1_500.gif

Scrap Shield (W):

Scrap shield will be your utility ability so leave one point in it at lvl 2 and max it last. The one point in scrap shield early game is pretty good to block harass damage when you go to cs and the movement speed from it is pretty nifty. This is Rumbles best distance closer, THE SCRAP SHIELD lol.

tumblr_n2qss3Unvf1s8166so3_r1_500.gif
tumblr_n2qss3Unvf1s8166so6_r1_500.gif

Electro Harpoon (E):

This is Rumble's second source of damage ability so max it second. It is very useful for csing and poking. I find myself always pushed up on the enemy turret from flamespitter harass so generally you want to keep the pressure by poking with Electro Harpoon and maybe a few Flamespitters at the turret. If the turret aggros on you then use Scrap Shield and run away. Make sure to ward and watch for the enemy jungler.

tumblr_n2qss3Unvf1s8166so7_r1_500.gif

The Equalizer (ULT):

One of my favorite ultimates. You can use this to kill off a low enemy champion from a distance, intiate a fight, or just clear a wave of minions super fast with it. During laning phase, if you and your jungler kill top lane and need to push a large wave to deny the enemy cs then feel free to use your ult to clear. It doesn't have that long of a cooldown so just spam away. Make sure to ult first in a teamfight so you do not overheat.

Tips and In-depth Item Description:

Tips:

What to buy at first recall:

If you start Doran's Shields:
Buy Haunting Guise unless you are having a tough time vs an AD champ then buy Seeker's Armguard.

If you started Cloth Armor:
If you started Cloth Armor, I assume you are fighting heavy AD so I would suggest getting Seeker's Armguard then Haunting Guise. Don't forget those wards :D

Sight Wards are IMPORTANT:

The main thing with Rumble is to ward. Rumble does very well top lane against most champions if built the right way. Rumble will create so much pressure top lane that the jungler will camp you all day long. WARDS ARE VERY IMPORTANT.  I usually buy two because I'm usually in lane long enough where I don't get to use any of my potions because I keep bullying the enemy top lane out and end up using up my two wards. Sometimes you need a third ward if you are snowballing a little bit for lane ganks. YOU DO NOT WANT TO LOSE YOUR ADVANTAGE

Boots:

Boots are NOT that important to get early on. In some cases when you need mobility like fighting Jax and Garen then you should consider getting boots as a first or second item otherwise it is not that important to get boots. IT IS OKAY TO GET BOOTS AS A THIRD OR FOURTH ITEM (SAME GOES WITH SECONDARY BOOTS). If you need magic resist during laning phase, DO NOT RUSH MERCURY TREADS. Merc Treads are really expensive early on for what it's worth.

Trinkets:

Usually just start with the one that wards (i don't remember the name, but it's yellow). It's pretty standard to start with it so you can ward for yourself early when you start doran's shield. You can switch to sweeper later if your team needs it.

Item Description:

3136_64.png
This is a must for laning phase. Haunting guise will either be your first or second item. This item provides     Rumble two important stats, Health and Magic Pen. The only time when this won't be your first buy is when you face strong AD champions and get behind from being killed or losing exp early then you focus on only survivalbility. Other than that, Haunting Guise is a great buy when Rumble is even or ahead in lane.

3191_64.png
Seeker's Armguard is an exceptional item to buy versus AD champions during laning phase. If you are forced to go Cloth Armor and 5 HP Pots then generally you want to get Seeker's Armguard on your first buy. The armor and AP it gives is gold efficient. Then of course, you can wait and turn Seeker's Armguard into a Zhonya's Hourglass after your general core items.

3116_64.png
Rylai's Crystal Scepter is main mid game core. Rylai's provide good AP and Health just like Haunting Guise. It also has a passive where it allows Rumble to stick onto champions when chasing with Flamespitter instead of relying on Electro Harpoons. Focus on getting this item after Haunting Guise and Boots are completed.

3020_64.png
Sorcerer Shoes are standard boots for Rumble. These boots provide Magic Pen for Rumble which is always good especially during laning phase. Consider getting Sorcerer Shoes after completing Haunting Guise. Only get this as a first item when you NEED mobility to fight your opponent. Otherwise, get this second. Consider Ninja Tabi or Mercury Threads depending on the situation (Read the Section named "Boots" above for details on when to buy).

3047_64.png
Ninja Tabi is great versus heavy AD comps. The 10% physical basic attacks reduction is pretty good. Make sure not to get confused about the passive of this item. It is not reduction for every AD based ability, only basic attacks or enhanced basic attacks like Gangplank's Parley. I would suggest getting a Void Staff later if you go Ninja Tabi for the loss of Magic Penetration from the Sorcerer Shoes.

3111_64.png
Mercury Tread is great for heavy AP or CC team comps. If you feel like their team has too much CC in their champions then go ahead and buy Merc Treads. Do not buy this item just solely for the MR in lane. Merc Treads are   very expensive for what it is worth during laning phase. Some exceptions might be okay like facing a Jax in lane where the Magic Resist + Tenacity would be helpful fighting him 1v1. Other than that, buy it before team fighting a high CC oriented team.

3151_64.png
Liandry's Torment after Rylai's Crystal Scepter will make Rumble's abilities do stupid amounts of damage. Basically, additional AP and Health with a passive that burns enemy for 2% of their HP and if their movement is impaired then  the burn does double damage which means with Rylai's Crystal Scepter, the burn will always be double. This item is really good versus tanky, high HP targets like Singed. In the current meta of tanks, you can generally rush this item first before Rylai's for the burn vs tanky champions.

3157_64.png
Zhonya's Hourglass is really important for Rumble for most situations. The only time when I feel like it's not that necessary is fighting like THREE AP's or something. Typically if you start cloth armor in lane then you want to get Seeker's Armguard and finishing Zhonya's right after Rylai's. Sometimes you could accidentally mess up a play by overheating too soon and need to use the Active to wait it out. The armor + AP + active makes this item an exceptional item to get.

3026_64.png
Guardian Angel is great to get when you are the main focus. Rumble has very short ranged abilities and having to use his passive to Overheat to deal great auto attack damage really puts Rumble into a dangerous position where he will die easily. Sometimes during laning phase you might need a little bit of Magic Resist, so Null-Magic Mantle can be an item to take into consideration and also be saved for a Guardian Angel later. The fastest I would ever get this item is after completing Secondary Boots, Rylai's Crystal Scepter, and Liandry's Torment.

3001_64.png
Abyssal Scepter is really good in situations where your team is against double AP team comps. This item provides Magic Resist and Ability Power with a passive that lower close target's Magic Resist. The Flat Magic Pen items that Rumble gets plus Abyssal Scepter works really well together. Since Rumble does have short range, the passive works fairly well.

3089_64.png
Rabadon's Deathcap has always been that item that gives the Oomf! to your damage. I don't really think it's a priority item for Rumble will already have a lot of damage when he completes his Sorcerer Shoes, Rylai's Crystal Scepter, and Liandry's Torment. Generally after your Core Items, you want to start building tanky on Rumble with Zhonya's Hourglass, Guardian Angel, or something. If you are really far ahead, I guess you can just buy this item after your three Core Items.

3135_64.png
Void Staff is a must buy item. I think you should get this on Rumble somewhere in every matchup and situation. When you are far behind, I would try to complete Liandry's Torment, Rylais Crystal Scepter, and a Void Staff for maximum magic pen (This way when you can become useful by landing good ultimates when you are far behind). If you are not far behind, consider getting a Void Staff later after you buy your tanky items.

3143_64.png
Randuin Omen's is situational item. Consider getting this if the enemy has a lot of strong AD auto attackers. You could possibly finding yourself getting an early Warden's Mail versus Irelia in lane and building into a Raduin's Omen. The HP and armor is really nice. I rarely get to purchase this item, but it is a very strong item when you are part of the frontline against many AD auto attackers and need to soak some damage. Make sure not to forget to use the passive. The passive reduces nearby enemy movements and attack speed even more, REALLY GOOOOOD.

3152_64.png
Will of the Ancients is a decent item for Rumble. It gives really good sustain with the spell vamp it gives. If you have a heavy AP team that needs the extra AP aura then it's not bad to grab WoTA on Rumble. Most of the time I find other items more important than WoTA, that's why this item is situational.

3083_64.png
Warmogs gives the most HP out of all the items in the game. I feel like Warmogs is very situational and should only be bought if you need more HP versus an AP heavy team. The reason for not getting it for AD heavy teams is because Raduin's Omens provide HP and Armor with a nice passive against strong AD auto attackers. There is definitely better choices, but Warmogs is still viable.

VS

Aatrox

Hard

Lane Phase:

Rumble has a hard time with Aatrox 1-5. Probably start Doran's Shield and focus on farm. At level 6, you can beat him if you ALL IN (Ignite and Ultimate). If you get his passive down and if you are low then back off, he will beat you. Make sure to watch out for level 2 all in (if he hits 2 before you). Pretty much dodge his Q and the lane will become easier.
***Junglers help will be needed***

Core Items:

3157_32.png3136_32.png3020_32.png

VS

Akali

Easy

Lane Phase:

Akali is a pretty easy lane. She is only strong when she reaches level 6 so just bully her before she hits 6 with your Flamespitter. Farm until level 4 and then start to go aggressive everytime after Cooldowns. Make sure to go aggressive after any Akali marks are off of you. If she uses shroud to try to cs then just use Flamespitter and spin around the shroud or something then when she comes out of the shroud use your harpoons then stick on her with some more Flamespitter. Buy a pink ward if you have trouble Akali escaping with her shroud. I like to buy a early Giant's Belt for her mixed damage burst.

Key Focus:

- Trade a lot before Akali is level 6.
- Spam Flamespitter in the Shroud.
- Use Scrap Shield when she uses Q on you.
- Don't get Mark-Auto Attacked-Explode twice, WAIT FOR THE MARK TO GO AWAY BEFORE GETTING AGGRESSIVE.

Core Items:

3136_32.png1011_32.png2043_32.png

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy

Lane Phase:

All Cho Gath does is farm in lane so bully him as much as possible early on before he gets too tanky. Deny him as much farm as possible. At lvl 1, use a Harpoon to CS and the other to harass (unless there is two low hp creeps of course). At lvl 2 when he goes for melee cs, auto him and use your shield to block his autos. At lvl 4, use your whole combo then zone him from his creeps. He will end up using his abilities and using up his mana to cs. You want to get haunting guise and a giants belt asap before he gets lvl 6. Build some hp for his true damage not too much though, you want some damage items for his tanky items.

Key Focus:

- Bully him pre 6 before he gets too tanky!
- Prepare health and magic pen items for his true damage and tankyness!

Core Items:
3136_32.png1011_32.png3020_32.png

VS

Darius

Medium

Lane Phase:

Melee champs are usually easy to bully, but Darius has a grab so you need to watch for those. Use your judgement. Usually if you get initiated on then you will lose the trade or die. Darius pre 6 is where you want to win, if you win pre 6 then you will win at level 6 and beyond. What I like to do is bait out Darius's grab. I like to poke with Electro Harpoons and use Flamespitter when he goes in to CS. Damage him with your Flamespitter with the tip of it and move a lil bit towards him and back off with Scrap Shield. Make it seem like you are going to go in on him. Bait that grab! If he misses his grab then that is when you go in on him with everything because he can't counter for about 16 seconds. When Darius reaches level 6, make sure you initiate fights and when you do, ALL IN with ult and ignite. Build Hp and armor items. Maybe one dorans shield and rush seekers armorguard and haunting guise with a giants belt. Be careful of red pots if he chooses to get one at lvl 1. If you want to be extra safe just ask for one successful gank and if you kill Darius then you should be fine the rest of the laning phase.

Key Focus:

- Get advantages before Darius reaches level 6.

- Bait out Darius's E (grab) for a safe trade.

- Think about how much damage Darius will do at level 6. USE YOUR JUDGEMENT

- Ask for one successful gank from your jungler if you are having trouble.

Core Items:

1054_32.png3136_32.png3020_32.png3116_32.png

VS

Diana

Medium

Laning Phase:

Go 5 pots, 1 ward, rejuv bead. This matchup is definitely a skill matchup. Rumble cannot trade with Diana early on until 4. Diana will most likely shove the way in some way with either her passive, Q, or W. Farm safely until 4. Then at 6 you should probably avoid getting Q'ed into Ult. If you do get Q'ed then initiated on by her ULT you should probably just fight her (assuming you are full HP) with everything you have including your Ultimate and ignite. When Diana misses her Q then there is a small window that you can fight her with a little advantage. If Diana gets ahead then it is very difficult to come back. Call for jungle help if needed.

Key Focus:

- Dodge her Q's

- Ward carefully, Diana sets up good ganks

- Don't fall behind

Core Items:

3136_32.png3020_32.pngor3111_32.png3023_32.png(Not bad of a choice)

VS

Elise

Medium

Lane Phase:

(Similar to fighting Yorick)

Elise is more of a skill matchup IMO. The recent Elise nerfs makes her easier to face. Start with Doran's Shield (block auto attacks) and either W or E, depending if you want to farm from a distance or CS with melee and shield Elise's Q harass. At level 2, get either W or E depending on which one you got at level 1. Level 3 and onward, max out Q then E or W (You can max W to absorb Elise's Q and W, or E for extra damage and slow. I usually max E because I don't have a problem getting harassed down). At level 4 is where you can start trading but it can be risky to go for the kill. Level 6 is where Rumble will shine over Elise. Since Elise no longer gains bonus Armor and MR from her Spider Form, Rumble can easily dominate fights at level 6 with Equalizer and Ignite. Good times to use your ultimate is if she Rapels onto you or after Elise uses Rapel to escape then you can use it for the slow. When fighting Elise at levels 4+ , make sure to dodge her stun and be sure to overheat with Flamespitter and auto attack. Good time to initiate onto Elise is when she is in spider form or have low mana. Pick up a early negatron if you are getting  destroyed from harass.

Key Focus:

-Initiate when Elise has low mana.

-Shield the harass.

-Initiate fights when Elise is in Spider Form.

-You can deal some harass against Elise when she is in Spider form by Electro Harpooning her then Flamespitter and when she transformers then Shield away from her while absorbing her Q.

Core Items:

1054_32.png3136_32.png3020_32.png1057_32.png(Finish into Abyssal Scepter if Double AP or else get Rylai's)

VS

Fiora

Easy

Lane Phase:

Poke early on and farm till level 4. When you hit 4 then you can start harassing a lot more with rumbleflamethrower.png when she goes to farm, but be ready to rumbleshield.png her fioraq.png since you will be in fioraq.png her  range. Pretty much at level 4 and beyond you can start trading. Be sure to overheat with rumbleflamethrower.png and auto her while trading. You should win the trade, if not for what ever reason kite back with rumblegrenade.png. If you do have trouble, pick up an early Doran's Shield.

Key Focus:

- Harass with rumblegrenade.png till level 4.

- Start trading at level 4

- Be sure to Overheat with rumbleflamethrower.png and Auto Attack during trades.

Core Items:

1054_32.png3136_32.png3191_32.png3020_32.png

VS

Galio

Easy

Laning Phase:

Should never die to Galio in lane unless you get ganked. Harass him early when he has no MR items and when you recall buy magic pen and abyssal to reduce his MR. Ward up because his ult can create very easy ganks. Dodge\block his Q's and E's then just harass and farm. Should rush liadry's torment to do more damage when he stacks MR.

Key Focus:

- Dodge\Block Q's and E's

- Rush Liandry's Torment

- Harass before his first buy

Key Items:

3151_32.png

VS

Gangplank

Easy

Lane Phase:

Farm until level 4. Try to last hit minions with auto attacks and harass with Electro Harpoons. Scrap Shield any incoming Parleys. When you hit 4 then start harassing with your combo. There isn't much Gangplank can do to Rumble except back off and Parley. Force him to farm from a distance with his Parley. Make him use up his mana so he has to recall. FREEZE AND ZONE. Use the bush to zone, so you can safely run away from any ganks. Shouldn't be too hard to get away from a gank versus a Gangplank Top Lane.

Key Focus:

-Scrap Shield those Parleys
-Zone and force Gangplank to farm with Parley
-Use the bush for champions with target-spells!

Core Items:

1054_32.png3191_32.png3136_32.png3020_32.png

Doran Shield: Doran's Shield with Scrap Shield can negate most of GP's Parley harasses and sustain through lane. (*Note - Play carefully for enemy jungler since you have no wards.)

VS

Garen

Easy

Laning Phase:

This matchup may be troublesome for players if they don't play it correctly, but it should be easy. Pre-level 4, make sure to be in a distance where you can react and respond with Electro Harpoons when Garen Q's and runs at you. This is very important because when at level 2-3 those spin to wins do a lot of damage and while all that is happening you are silenced and can't do anything like a little poooosay. However, when you hit level 4 you can start trading. I recommend starting your harass with Electro Harpoons then Overheating as you go to melee him so you don't get silenced before you Overheat\Flamespitter. If you do this correctly, Garen will either run away or stay and die. If he runs then this is when you just zone with Electro Harpoons. At level 6, just do the same thing and watch your HP because a lot of players underestimate Garen's ultimate. His ultimate usually catches new players with their pants down and pwns them.

Key Focus:

- Farm at safe distance

- Don't get silenced when engaging

- Don't underestimate Garen's ultimate

Core Items:

3136_32.png3020_32.png3191_32.png

VS

Irelia

Medium

Laning Phase:

This matchup is all about denying Irelia early. How I like to beat Irelia early is kind of risky. I like to farm till level 3 and immediately start pushing with Flamespitter. Make her farm underneath turret. Don't get me wrong, Irelia is a great farmer underneath turret, but since she has to melee and use her Q to effectively farm you can harass her as much as you want with Flamespitter and Electro Harpoons while she is busy farming underneath the turret. Make sure to ward very good and I mean VERY GOOD. If you are on purple side ward in the river that intersects with the path to blue buff and maybe the bush behind the enemy turret. If you are blue side ward tri-bush and the river (if mid didn't ward wraiths). Usually if you do this strategy, you can reach level 6 and push Irelia out of lane. If she leaves the lane, you just push the wave and buy. At this point, you should be able to duel her easily.

Key Focus:

- Ward effectively at all times

- Push the wave and harass Irelia when she farms underneath turret

Core Items:

1054_32.png3136_32.png3191_32.png3020_32.png

VS

Jarvan IV

Easy

Laning Phase:

Okay, so Jarvan is pretty easy to beat. You must make sure not to get knocked up at level 2 from J4's combo + auto attacks because his passive hurts a lot. Just farm safely and dodge any E-Q combos. Once you are level 4, this is when you turn it around. Everytime Jarvan misses his E-Q combo, you can go at him with your combo. If he stays and tries to fight you then kite him a little and he should die. If he runs then just keep chasing until you can't anymore. At level 6, when he ults you then you ult in the cataclysm. Pretty much GG from there.

Key Focus:

- Dodge J4's knockup combos

- Farm safe until 4

- Ult inside his Ult

Core Items:

1054_32.png3136_32.png3020_32.png3191_32.png

VS

Jax

Medium

Laning Phase:

Jax around levels 2-3 will leap onto you and use counterstrike then use empower (W). When Jax jumps onto you and USES COUNTERSTRIKE, make sure to use Electro Harpoon then Scrap Shield (for movement speed) to get away from his counterstrike. After his counterstrike wears off that is when you go all out on him. Use your full combo and overheat with Flamespitter. If Jax uses counterstrike first THEN leap, then you probably won't be able to dodge the stun unless you were far enough to run away in the first place. Best you can do is just use Scrap Shield to shield some of the incoming damage and use Electro Harpoon and Flamespitter; you will win the trade anyways. Make sure to get as much trade in as possible before Jax hits level 6. Use Scrap Shield then Flamespitter for harass and use Electro Harpoon to disengage. Use the bush to your advantage so you can wait for CD and to not allow him to use Leap on you. Win early then snowball the rest of the lane. Don't forget to ward and watch the map!

Key Focus:

-Trade as much before Jax hits level 6. RUMBLE WILL WIN TRADES IF PLAYED RIGHT.

-Scrap Shield the Counterstrike-Leap Combo, use Electro Harpoon to get away from the Leap-Counterstrike Combo and then Flamespitter\Auto Attack Jax when his Counterstrike is off CD.

-USE THE BUSH WITH YOUR HARASSMENT (Use Scrap Shield and FlameSpitter then Electro Harpoon while heading in the bush) PREVENT HIM FROM COUNTER ATTACKING.

Core Items:

1054_32.png3136_32.png3020_32.png

VS

Jayce

Easy

Laning Phase:

Farm up till level 4. When you farm, shield his auto attack harass. When you hit 4, you will be able to trade and beat him. If he initiates you then knocks you back, hit him with Electro Harpoon and chase him down with Flamespitter. If he is low enough then zone him, if not then wait for cool downs and trade with him again. If he doesn't do the initiating then, you can initiate on him anytime you want. Your level 6 will be much stronger than his. Just make sure to land a good ultimate.

Key Focus:

- Shield Auto Attack harass when farming

- Should probably all in whenever ultimate and ignite is up for free kill

- Dodge his ball laser

Core Items:

1054_32.png3136_32.png3191_32.png3020_32.png

VS

Katarina

Easy

Laning Phase:

Should be a really easy lane. I would start W at level 1 because Katarina will most likely have Q so you want to shield that shit early. Pretty much free farm until level 4 and then trade and win all of them. Katarina really doesn't do much damage early in the game. Fight her and zone her to force her to use her Q to farm. This will let the wave push even more. Zone her harder to force her to recall. If she doesn't recall then just bully her so more. If she does recall, then freeze the lane and let her lose XP and farm. You pretty much won the lane if you do this correctly.

Key Focus:

- Start shield and block Q damage
- At level 4, trade with her and force her to use Q to farm
- Let wave push towards your turret and freeze and zone

Core Items:

3136_32.png3020_32.png1011_32.png

VS

Kayle

Medium

Laning Phase:

Kayle shouldn't be too hard. I usually let her push the wave so I can farm until level 4. At level 1, she will probably start either Q or E and activate it when you go to farm. If she uses Q on you then just shield the damage and continue to farm. If she uses E then shield the first attack and back off; she will auto the creeps with E active still and it will push the wave. After that, just do the same thing until the wave is at your turret so you can farm safely until level 4. At level 4, you can beat her straight up if you land both your Harpoons and overheat with Flamespitter.

Key Focus:

- Shield her Q or E(Whatever she starts with) when farming

- Let her push early on so you can reach level 4 safely

Core Items:

1054_32.png3136_32.png3020_32.png3116_32.png

VS

Kennen

Medium

Laning Phase:

This guy does a lot of damage early on with his autos and is hard to kill. Most Kennens usually run AD Quints and Magic/Hybrid Pen marks and harass you done early with auto attacks. Make sure to start E and farm safely and at level 2 get shield to block out auto attack damage when farming. I suggest always be behind a minion so you do not get hit by Kennen's Q unless you are pro at dodging them then it doesn't matter. Farm until level 4, and anytime you engage or run make sure to strafe a little bit to dodge any Q's cus they  do hurt yo. You do be able to beat him at level 4, just make sure you land those Electro Harpoons or else you won't be able to stick on him and he will just E away. Also, don't get stunned during an engagement early on; you will take lots of damage if you do. This means, don't get hit by Qs. At level 6, i suggest using your ultimate only if he runs or after his E is on cooldown (A good time is when Kennen players likes to E onto you to get that extra mark).

Key Focus:

- Shield Kennen auto harass and farm with Harpoons

- Hit Electro Harpoons to stick onto Kennen during engagements

- Dodge Kennen's Qs or block them by standing behind minions at all times

- Don't fight with any marks on you before the engagement

- Preferably use ultimate with Kennen's E is down during engagements

Core Focus:

3136_32.png3020_32.png3191_32.png1054_32.png

Armor items can be good early on because of Kennen's high AD, but if you think you don't need them then don't buy them.

VS

Kha'Zix

Medium

Lane Phase:

Its all about whether he gets farm early or not. Fighting early with creeps will guarantee your lane success. Make sure you fight him with creeps or else he will win. Bully him before his 1st evolution. I would scrap shield everytime you go for a dangerous minion kill because of the range on Kha' Zix's Q. When you fight post 6, I would wait for the Leap before you Ult or else he will just Leap out of it. Ask for ganks if you are behind vs Kha' Zix. Nobody likes a fed Kha'Zix.

Core Items:

1054_32.png3136_32.png3020_32.png3157_32.png(If behind otherwise =>3116_32.png)

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

Laning Phase:

This guy is pretty hard to kill just because of his kit. Laning against him should not be too difficult. Just farm until level 4 then start trading with him. You will probably push the lane. If you do then just harass him when he is trying to farm under the turret. If you do this, make sure to ward carefully. If Lee maxes W, then he is pretty hard to take down but he also doesn't do as much damage. Make sure to dodge his Q's and you should be fine in lane. Rumble can trade with Lee after 4, dodge the Q for a more advantageous trade.

Key Focus:

- Dodge Q

- Ward carefully

Core Items:

3136_32.png3020_32.pngor3047_32.png

VS

Malphite

Easy

Laning Phase:

Malphite is pretty easy to fight against. Basically Rumble will win every single trade at level 4 and throughout unless Malphite somehow started ahead and buys hella MR. I recommend just farming till level 4 then just trade and zone him. It is really that easy. Just ward and watch out at level 6 since Malphite's ultimate, Unstoppable Force, is really easy to set up ganks with. I suggest buying magic pen items early (Haunting Guise, Sorc Shoes) because Malphite will most likely buy MR at first back, usually a Chalice.

Key Focus:

- Trade and zone at level 4.

- Ward carefully especially level 6.

Core Items:

VS

Mordekaiser

Easy

Huedekaiser is never Top Lane anymore ):

VS

Nasus

Easy

Laning Phase:

Really easy lane; Basically Nasus's primary focus is to just farm until he reaches that tanky hyper carry status. Your job as Rumble is to harass him as early as level 3. When you get each ability at level 3 start unleashing your combo every time its off CD. Make sure to count his minions to prevent massive minion damage. I would go aggressive if Nasus has four minions or less since you are going to be harassing at an earlier level. Harass him until he runs behind his minions, then you can start zoning him from his farm. Force him into using his E (Circle ability) to farm minions. If he is forced to use his E then he will eventually use up his mana and be forced to recall. His E will also push the lane towards your side of the lane and when it does, FREEZE the lane by last hitting. If Nasus goes too far on your side, then you can either just kill him yourself (or blow a summoner spell or two) or ask your jungler for an easy gank. That's pretty much all you have to do and you will gain an advantage minute after minute.

Key Focus:

- Deny him Q farm

- Force him into farming with his E (Circle ability) and zone him after

- Buy early MAGIC PEN items (Haunting Guise, Sorc Shoes) for early magic resist items.

VS

Nidalee

Medium

Laning Phase:

Now a days there are more AP Nids than AD Nids, so I will write about AP Nids. This lane will depend on how good the Nid player is. Usually good Nids will hide in the bush and try to poke you with her spears and stay in lane with her sustain. There is nothing more about this matchup then dodging her spears and bullying at level 3 and beyond. I've faced bad and good Nids where the good Nids will literally hit every spear and destroy me in lane with cougar and the bad Nids where they just get destroyed by Rumble because they can't stay away at a distance. Definitely a skill matchup

Key Focus:

- Bully before Nid has kill potential at level 6

- Dodge spears and traps

Core Items:

1054_32.png3136_32.png3020_32.png

VS

Olaf

Medium

Laning Phase:

Start with a Doran's Shield and HP Pot. The best way to itemize against Olaf is resistance and HP items. At level 1, you can start E or Q depending on your play style. If you start Q, then you can harass and push the lane when CSing. If he tries to go on you then back up into your minions and attack back. If you start E, then just farm until level 4 to start trading and harassing more heavily. When autoing minions, make sure to use your Scrap Shield to prevent damage from Olaf's Q or E.  During small fights, dodge his axes and scrap shield incoming damage. When Olaf is coming at you, make sure to kite with Electro Harpoons and Flamethrower back at a safe distance. Level 6 and after, just make sure to fight in the Equalizer.

Key Focus:

- Trade at level 4 and remember to kite

- Dodge axes when trading

- Fight in your ultimate

Core Items:

3136_32.png3020_32.png3116_32.png

VS

Pantheon

Easy

Laning Phase:

So this matchup is pretty straight forward, for levels 1-5 you want to avoid fighting with Pantheon because he out-damages Rumble so bad early on.  Start 1029_32.png and 2003_32.png which should be built into an early 3191_32.png. Start E instead of Q to avoid pushing the lane. Consider getting W at level 2 because the lane will probably be shoving to your turret soon and you want to absorb those spears as you last hit. Farm safely to level 6 and then you can start scrapping with Pantheon because he can't use his ultimate to fight you.

Key Focus:

- Avoid full on fights levels 1-5
- Max W second to absorb spear harass
- FIght at level 6 with your ultimate
- Pay attention to his mana, usually Pantheon use up their mana really quick so don't lose out on the opportunity to fight when he is low on mana

*Important Note:

Make sure to always let your team know that Pantheon just hit level 6 and always let your team know that he is missing from lane. Pantheon players usually like to recall when they hit 6 and ult bot for a double. The game can get really out of control if he can get kills in other lanes like this.

Core Items:

3191_32.png3136_32.png3020_32.png

VS

Quinn

Easy

Laning Phase:

I've faced a few Quinn top here and there, so Im gonna write a matchup for her. Just farm till 4 for Quinn with your Electro Harpoons and Shield+Auto attacks. When you are level 4, you can easily beat her. Make sure to land your first harpoon or else she can kite you and you will take unnecessary damage. When you hit your first harpoon she will probably use Vault on you to create distance, this is when you land your second harpoon and Flamespitter. Since AD Carries are weakest early in the game, you can easily win lane.

Key Focus:

- Land Harpoons

- Shield Auto Attack Harass with farming

Core Items:

1054_32.png3136_32.png3191_32.png3020_32.png

1054_32.png or 1029_32.png Both are good starts, whatever you prefer.

VS

Renekton

Medium

Laning Phase:

This alligator does a shit load of damage early on. You can start Cloth Armor + 5 HP Pots or Doran's Shield.  Level 1, start E and farm safely to level 4. When you have Q, harass Renekton when he goes to CS with the combination of Q and W (W because he will either Stun you or use his Q). Make sure to trade everytime when Renekton uses an ability to CS, he has fairly long cooldowns early on. At level 6, Renekton can be dangerous if not shut down early on. Pretty much have to land a good ultimate or else he will out trade you with his ultimate. Everytime Renekton uses his all his E's  to close the gap onto you, back up and kite with Electro Harpoons. If he is still coming at you then Scrap Shield away until he starts backing up then chase him with Flamespitter.

Key Focus:

-Farm safely until level 4

-Let Renekton push to your turret to farm safely

-Trade after hitting level 4 during the small windows when Renekton uses abilities to CS

-Watch his Fury, don't trade when it's in the red

Core Items:

1054_32.png3136_32.png3191_32.png3020_32.png

VS

Rengar

Medium

Laning Phase:

So, the scariest part of this matchup is at Level 1. Make sure after leashing (Blue Side) you don't go by the river path, take the longer way to lane. If none of that happens then just stay Leap-Range away from the bushes when he is in them. When he is in a bush, look around at the minion he is about to jump to and prepare to harass a bit with FlameSpitter. Don't over commit because you can get destroyed if not played right. At level 6, just please don't stay when you are low. Wards will be very important. Consider carrying a pink ward if you plan to get a gank from your jungler (post level 6).

Core Items:

1054_32.png3136_32.png3191_32.png3020_32.png

VS

Riven

Hard

Laning Phase:

(Almost like facing Renekton)

I suggest starting Doran's Shield or Cloth 5 pots and farming really super safe around levels 1-3. The only way you are going to out trade her that early is to have more minions. Let her push the wave to your turret and farm until level 4. When you reach 4, you can out trade her if you play it right. If you don't then you are going to take tons of damage. Riven will most likely start her combo by Shield-Dashing in and into a Stun. When she does this, use your shield and use harpoon once and Flamespitter while auto attacking. When she continues her combo by using her Q, use your Second harpoon and kite her away so she doesn't auto attack you with the bonus damage from her passive. After this, you should have enough time to use Shield and Flamespitter again. Make sure you do not give Riven an early kill or else it will snowball the entire laning phase.

Key Focus:

- Farm SAFELY around levels 1-3 especially if Riven has Fortitude Potion

- Let Riven push to turret so you can farm until level 4

- Use your Minions

- Trade correctly

Core Items:

VS

Ryze

Easy

~~~ Coming Soon ~~~
VS
Shen
Easy
Laning Phase:
Level 1 will be pretty annoying with Shen Q'ing you, but try to farm safely with Electro Harpoons then get Shield at Level 2 to shield the Q's as you go to farm (with auto attacks). Farm till level 4 and start winning trades. It is as easy as that. When you go to trade, watch the minions since Shen still could possibly win the trade with minion advantage especially since he has a taunt. When Shen hits level 6, there is basically nothing you can do to stop his ultimate from happening so when he does use his ultimate, try to do as much damage to him as he is teleporting so your team could possibly pick up a kill on him (Blow ultimate and ignite if you want). After he teleports, just shove the wave and farm the minions past his turret.
Key Focus:
- Shield his Q's early on
- Trade at level 4
- Watch the minions when trading
- Do as much damage to Shen as he is ulting away then push the wave and farm the minions past Shen's turret
- Ward
Core Items:
1054_32.png3136_32.png3020_32.png
VS
Singed
Easy
Laning Phase:
Against Singed, you want to trade as much as possible before the first back. At level 1-3, you want to just focus on CSing and Electro Harpoon Singed whenever he has the chance. If you can, let Singed push the wave early on. If the wave is near your turret around level 4 then you can start zoning him with your combo (E-W-Q).  If you keep comboing Singed at level 4 and when every ability is off CD then you will gain a large advantage and will just continue to dominate the rest of the lane. When Singed runs and goes aggressive on you then kite with Electro Harpoon and use Scrap Shield + Flamespitter afterwards.
Key Focus:
- Deny Singed as much as possible before first buy.
- Zone Singed.
- Trade as much as possible at level 4.
Core Items:
3136_32.png3020_32.png3116_32.png
VS
Teemo
Easy
Laning Phase:
Probably the most annoying matchup. Just farm till level 4 while shielding all of Teemo's auto attacks. You should win trades at level 4. I'd recommend trading a lot around levels 4-5 and try to get an advantage from that. At level 6, it may be harder to get kills against an experienced Teemo player because of mushrooms, but you can still get a kill if you land a good ultimate and hit your harpoons.
Key Focus:
- Shield auto attacks while farming
- Trade at level 4
- Hit Electro Harpoons and Ultimate to stick onto Teemo
Core Focus:
1054_32.png3136_32.png3020_32.png3191_32.png(If AD Teemo)
VS
Tryndamere
Medium
Laning Phase:
Okay so the hard part of this lane is probably levels 1-2. Don't underestimate Tryndamere's early damage with his Passive Crits. Tryndamere can hit level 2 and spin towards you with half a fury bar and chunk your HP with two shots and back out and heal up any damage taken. Make sure to farm very safely with Electro Harpoons. When you hit 3 and so forth, it gets easier. When he spins in just hit him with Electro Harpoons and kite with Flamespitter. After he uses his E there should be no way he can catch up to you, especially if you hit your harpoons. At level 6, it is pretty much the same except to watch out for his ultimate. Don't get baited by it. Don't fight Trynd while he has his ult active, instead hit him with Harpoons and kite the Ultimate off, then finish him off.
Another option to facing Tryndamere is to push the lane and just harass him down under turret with Spitter and Harpoons. If you choose this option, make sure to ward very carefully and make sure your mid laner wards correctly. Tryn can initiate and set up ganks quite well.
Key Focus:
- Safely farm levels 1-2
- Kite Trynd after he uses E
- Kite his Ultimate out
Core Items:
VS
Vi
Easy
If you are reading this, please tell me you are just looking at this matchup from curiosity. Who the hell plays Vi top lane aside from launch day.
VS
Vladimir
Easy
Laning Phase:
Very easy matchup if you don't let Vladimir free farm. Start Doran's Shield to lower auto attack damage. Your focus is to just farm till level 4 and shield any Vlad Q's. When you hit 4, then start doing the Rumble combo on Vlad every time it's off cooldown. No matter what, Vlad will not be able to trade with Rumble this early in the game. The only way you could possibly die early to Vlad is if you get early ganked or just go aggressive when Vlad has minion advantage. Zone Vlad using the bushes.
Key Focus:
-Continually trade with Vlad once Rumble hits level 4.
-Zone by using the bushes since Vlad's main ability is single-target.
-Ward for early ganks and count the minions.
Core Items:
1054_32.png3136_32.png3020_32.png1057_32.png
1054_32.png2003_32.png Might be a good start because of Vlad auto's. Good for sustaining through harass and the extra 100 HP will come in handy when you hit level 3 or 4 to fight.
VS
Volibear
Hard
Laning Phase:
Volibear pretty much just a tanky beast. Because of how much his passive heals him, it is hard to take him down or win trades. I would recommend farming to level 4 and continue to farm, maybe a little harass here and there. The best window to actually try to kill him is at level 6 with IGNITE. Other than that, I don't see Rumble killing Volibear without Jungle ganks. There isn't a lot of Volibear top lane, so don't worry about seeing this guy top for awhile.
Key Focus:
- Ask for Jungle Ganks
- Kite his Q with your Electro Harpoons
- Go for a kill at the level 6 window mark
Core Items:
1054_32.png3136_32.png3020_32.png
VS
Warwick
Medium
Laning Phase:
I don't know what to tell ya about this guy. You don't see him top often anymore, but he is actually pretty good against Rumble. Rumble does absolutely no damage to this guy because he just sustains through it all. Warwick cannot kill you in lane unless his jungler ganks or you just get too low and get Ulted + Qed + Ignited. By the time Warwick gets to the point where he can destroy you, laning phase will already be over. This lane is pretty much a farm lane for the both of you until your Jungler ganks. I recommend asking your jungler for an early gank to put you at a spot where you can kill Warwick by yourself.
Key Focus:
- Farm and wait for jungle ganks
- Ward carefully for easy Warwick Ult gank set ups
Core Items:
3136_32.png3020_32.png
VS
Wukong
Easy
Laning Phase:
Wukong is pretty easy. Start Doran's Shield or Cloth and farm safely to level 4. Keep a distance from his gap closer. At level 4, you can start trading back once he uses his E and Q then W combo. At level 6, becareful of ganks because its pretty easy to get destroyed by spinning wukong ultimate yolo stick. If behind, get ganks from your jungler.
Core Items:
1054_32.png3136_32.png3020_32.png3157_32.png(Zhonya's if behind or else get 3116_32.png)
VS
Xin Zhao
Hard
Laning Phase:
So this guy is kind of difficult in lane but it doesn't mean you still can't win it. Start cloth 5 pots.  Early levels you have to make sure to farm from a distance so Xin cannot engage on you with his E and Q afterwards. Sometimes you can outplay a Xin if he does go aggressive early with the help of your minions. I suggest from levels 1-3 stay close to your minions and farm. At level 4 is where you can stand your own. When he uses E onto you I would suggest kiting him with Electro Harpoons until his Q runs out so he doesn't get the knockup and when it does run out chase after him with Shield + Flamespitter and Electro Harpoons to disengage for his E when it comes back up. Rumble can beat Xin head on, but to make sure you come out ahead at all times make sure to use everything you have (ignite, ultimate, and overheating on flamespitter + auto attacking).
Key Focus:
- Fight in minions from levels 1-3
- Farm at a distance so he cannot E onto you
- Kite him out until his Q runs out
- Use everything in engagements
- Overheat correctly when trading
Core Items:
3191_32.png3136_32.png3047_32.pngor3020_32.png and maybe 1054_32.png
VS
Yasuo
Easy
Laning Phase:
So basically at lvl 1, Rumble can't do anything versus Yasuo. Yasuo's shield is OP and will block every amount of damage Rumble does at lvl 1 unless you overheat. The safe way to play the matchup is to let him push till you are lvl 4. Yasuos will generally push the lane naturally because of his Q so it won't be a problem. At level 4, you will out-trade Yasuo no problem, just make sure you land your stuff. At lvl 6, you win easy as long as you dodge the knockup Q's.
P.S. YASUO IS SO OP THAT HE WILL GET FED ANYWAYS LATER SO THE RIGHT WAY TO PLAY THIS MATCHUP IS TO BAN THIS GUY LOL
Tips:
- Dodge the Q's especially the knockup ones.
- If he ults you then ult underneath yourself
- Play safe till lvl 4
- Ban this muthafokka in ranked
Recommended Items:
Start 1054_32.png2003_32.png then rush 3191_32.png. You can opt to get 3136_32.png then into 3191_32.png instead if it's an easy lane for you.
VS
Yorick
Medium
Laning Phase:
(Similiar to fighting Elise)
Early levels are pretty tough. Try to farm as best as possible with Electro Harpoons. The main thing you have to do is let him push the minions to your turret at levels 1-3. It's okay to miss some cs to do it. Just make sure to be in exp range. If you go 5 pots 2 wards then you will out last his mana. Maxing W instead of E in this case is okay since the ghouls will get in the way of your harpoons, but either way I've tried works. Don't go for too much armor items since Yorick does do a lot of AP damage with his ghouls.
Key Focus:
-Let Yorick push to your turret early.
-Farm with Electro Harpoons early on and make sure to be in EXP range at all times.
-Use the bush to get aggro off the ghouls. SHIELD THEM ASWELL
VS
Zac
Easy
Laning Phase:
Pretty easy lane phase. Try to step on his blobs so Zac can't pick it up and zone him from it. Pretty much dodge Zac's E if he ever jumps at you (Most likely getting ganked). Most Zac harass every here and there, if he goes all in then most likely it's a gank. Scrap Shield when autoing minons because of Q and W harass. Flamespitter whenever Zac goes to CS. Electro Harpoon whenever you get the chance. When fighting, Ult after he uses Slingshot. Build Magic Pen items to bust through his resistance!
Core Items:
VS
Zed
Medium
Laning Phase:
Basically farm to 4 and dodge his Q's and Clone E's.  Farm until you are level 4, you should outtrade him at 4. However, at level 6 is where it gets tricky. Zed can come close to 100-0 at level 6. A good window for you to fight Zed is after he uses his clone. His clone (w) has a long cooldown and is the core for his damage. At any time, you should save your ultimate until he has no W so he can't get out of your Ultimate without running out. When he ults you, immediately ult underneath yourself. Get a Zhonya's really early to completely counter Zed.
Key Focus:
- Don't get hit by WEQ harass combo
- Fight when his clone (w) is on cooldown
- Use Ult underneath yourself when he Ults you
Introduction Back to Top
rumble-splashthumb.jpg
Hello, my League of Legends username is Jeffurs0 and I started out in Gold Division 3 in the beginning of Season 3. I played around with a few champs until one day I got stomped by a Rumble top lane. Then, I started playing around with Rumble in normals for a bit then onto ranked. After 1 month, I got to Diamond Division 5 with mostly playing Rumble. I feel like Rumble as a top laner is a champion that has very few counter-picks  Even if there are counter-picks  Rumble will do just fine against them with the right build and the right way to approach it. Thank you for reading my Rumble guide and I hope this guide helps you to be a better Rumble player.
Pros and Cons Back to Top
328422_329244497167870_930527027_o.jpg
Pros:
- Strong early game
- Little advantages will cause to snowball
- Good lane harass
- Ult does a lot of damage
- Pretty decent 1v2 Laner
- Great lane bullier
- Almost no counters, pretty much good against every matchup. To be honest, most of the harder matchups are never played Top Lane like Volibear and Warwick.
Cons:
- Hard to land ult if teamfights are not in small chokes
- If too far behind then you may be useless later
- No escape abilities
- Overheat cause to to be silenced, can't cast ultimate
- Hard to CS with autos
OverHeating/Passive Back to Top
Overheat
Rumble's basic abilities generate 20 heat when used. When Rumble reaches 50 heat, he is in the "Danger Zone", causing all his basic abilities to have enhanced effects. When Rumble reaches 100 heat he overheats, silencing himself for 6 seconds after which he will cooldown completely. While not overheated, after 4 seconds of not using his basic abilities he will start losing heat at a rate of 5 every half second, and 2.5 seconds later at a rate of 10 every half second.
Managing Danger Zone:
Remember that every ability generates 20 Heat so the highest amount of Heat you can store to be able to perform a full combo (QWE) is 55. You want to keep the Heat around 40ish at all times so you can do that extra bonus effect from your passive when you are ready to fight. You can keep it at the same heat bar by spamming one ability, usually the shield.
Note:
To get the Danger Zone bonus damage for your abilities, you have to make sure to already be in Danger Zone to get the bonus damage on your next ability. For examble, if you are at 40 HEAT then use Flamespitter into 60 HEAT then the Flamespitter will do the normal damage. If you are at 40 HEAT then use Electro Harpoon to 60 HEAT then use Flamespitter, it will add the bonus damage.
Weak Jungler:
  • Ward Blue1
  • Ward Blue2 (If mid wards Yellow1)
Purple Side:
Strong Jungler:
  • Ward Purple1 and Blue2 (if Orange1 is NOT warded by mid)
Weak Jungler:
  • Ward Purple1
Want to make plays on Purple Side with your jungler and mid?
  • Ward Purple2 for Blue steals
Last Hitting:
Probably the most important thing to know. Last hit the minions to get gold. Don't keep auto-attacking, this will push the lane and will make you fail to farm properly. Use your abilities to help you last hit. I know it may be hard to last hit with Rumble, but try your best!
Minions Hurt:
Minons act like turrets. If you attack an enemy in front or inside minion waves then the minions will go aggressive on you. This is important to know for early levels when you don't have a lot of Health Points or Armor. For the first 35 minutes, 1 Siege minion is spawned every three minion waves. After the 35th minute mark, Siege minions spawn every two waves.
Each regular minion wave contain 3 melee minions and 3 caster minions. Lets say you decide to fight at level 1, Rumble's HP is 566 (With Veteran Scar mastery) and 37 armor (with 9 armor seals and 3 points in Hardiness).
Damage Multiplier = 100 / (100 + Armor) if Armor is greater or equal to 0
Melee Minions - Atk Damage: 12(+1 every 3 mins)
Caster Minions - Atk Damage: 25(+2 every 3 mins)
Siege Minions - Atk Damage: 40(+3 every 3mins)
Minion Damage = 100 / (100 + 37)
                      = 100 / 133
                      = .73 or 27% damage reduction
Which means Melee minions will do 4 damage and Caster minions will do 19 damage.
(3x4)+(3x19) =  69 Damage per minion wave shot (Assuming they are all aiming at you)
Note that you start with 566 HP, so you are taking 69 maximum damage every couple seconds from minions if you start harassing the enemy at level 1, obviously you will lose the trade. THIS IS DAMAGE THAT YOU DON'T NEED TO BE TAKING.
Minions hurt so how do I trade efficiently?
Be smart about it. Wait till level 3-6 when you get more HP and armor from level ups. When you want to engage or start harassing make sure you count the minions. If you poke with Electro Harpoon and draw minion aggression then go inside a bush to stop the minions from attacking you. Check to see whether the enemy has fewer minions than you before engaging. MINION ADVANTAGE IS FREE DAMAGE.
What do I do if my wave is pushing or getting pushed?
Wave pushing towards enemy:
If your wave is pushing towards their side then use the bushes to last hit. Being inside the bush will prevent target-spells being casted onto you. Since, the wave is pushing staying in the bush will also allow you to run safely if you are about to get ganked by enemy jungler.
Wave pushed towards me:
If the wave is on your side, try to last hit the minions and freeze the lane. This will force the enemy to be on your side of the lane. At this situation, you can call your jungler to gank the enemy since he is farther from his turret. If the wave is at your turret then just try your best to last hit the minions. Melee minions take 3 turret shots and Caster minions take 2 turret shots. Use your abilities to help you farm minions at turret.
Pushing the Lane:
There are certain situations when you want to push the lane:
  • If your jungler ganks and either kills the enemy or makes him recall, push the lane. Ask the jungler to help you push it as well. This will make the enemy lose farm to the turret. Don't just recall when the minions are fighting near the middle and pushing towards his side, by the time he respawns the minions will be just at his turret and this will give him the opportunity to freeze the lane plus you will be losing all the farm that your minions killed.
  • If the enemy is very low or under leveled by like two or three levels, then push the lane and ask for your mid and\or jungler to dive the turret for a free kill.
  • If you need to buy really bad (maybe a ward or something because you are scared) then push the lane to his turret and buy so you have time to go back to lane before his minions reach your turret.
1v2 Laning:
Your job is to do your best to stay safe, alive, be in experience range, let the minions push to you, ward to prevent 3 man tower dives, clear waves as fast as possible at turret, and last hit with Electro Harpoons whenever off CD. If you are getting destroyed by long range pokes at the turret then ask your jungler to help you farm at turret and push the wave back to let you recall to heal.
Early Advantages on Purple Side:
So you can get an early experience advantage on purple side by taking Wraiths with Mid Lane. Make sure you tank and take the big wraith for some hp. Sharing the big wraith is up to you and the mid laner, usually Top Laner takes full XP.
Blue Side - Helping Jungler Leash Blue:
On blue side, the jungler will need help damaging wolves and blue for smiteless. Usually, the mid laner and top laner help the jungler out at wolves and the mid laner would leave the top laner to help the jungler alone. This causes the top laner to miss out on the first 1 or 2 creeps depending on how fast/slow it takes to give a good smiteless blue. To prevent this, make sure to share the EXP off of the big wolf with the jungler (MID SHOULD NOT GET EXP). All you have to do is stand close next to the wolf, make sure the jungler kills it and not you. If the jungler doesn't let you then give him a bad smiteless or else you will miss out on EXP and trust me those 1 or 2 creeps make a big difference.
Playing from Behind: Laning Phase and Mid-Game Back to Top
Playing from Behind: Laning Phase and Mid-Game:
Behind in Lane:
Let's say either you or someone else give First Blood to your lane opponent and you lose a whole wave of minions somewhere before the 10 minute mark. Then, your opponent gets 2 levels on you. What do you do?
Well in my opinion, there is only one solution and that is to farm safely either at your turret or close to it. Make sure to ward and just focus on farm. What you DON'T want to do is keep asking your jungler for help. Let your jungler snowball your winning lanes. The issue with asking for jungler help when you are behind is that you don't want to accidently 2v2 a counter gank. You will probably lose because you are behind. If you do need ganks, then coordinate a gank wtih your mid laner included, that way it is a 3v2. Other than that, farm underneath your turret.
What to Build:
3020_32.png3136_32.png3116_32.png or 3157_32.png instead of Rylai's if vs AD
TL;DR
What to Do:
- Farm near or under turret and focus on farm and surviving.
- Ward up when farming past river. If you don't have ward then recall and get one.
- Coordinate a gank with your mid laner and jungler to prevent 2v2 counter ganks.
- Ask your jungler to snowball other lanes and just let you farm under turret.
What Not to Do:
- Farm past river with no wards.
- Try to fight and outplay opponent (unless you are think you can). *Big Risk*
- Ask jungler for ganks. (Only ask if you see their jungler at the other side of the map)
Behind during Mid Game:
So after laning phase is done and you are grouping up with your team during mid game, your job is land the perfect ultimate then peel for your strongest carries. I wouldn't suggest tanking in the front front because you wouldn't have much items because you are behind. Land an ultimate on their carries to zone and slow them. I would suggest getting your core items then an early Void Staff. Magic Pen is the best stat for Rumble and have Magic Pen is the only way your ultimate will deal tons of damage when you are behind.
Early Game Back to Top
lolpatch.jpg
Farm and Survive:
Generally, all you want to do early is survive and farm until you reach level 4 or 6 (Different for some matchups). Rumble is pretty weak until he gets all his abilities since you can't utilize his passive to the fullest. So just go to lane and ward around 2 minutes and farm from a distance with Electric Harpoons and if you have to melee a minion then make sure you use your shield before getting hit by the enemy top laner. When you reach level 4 then start to do yo thang and bully the enemy. Buy a 3191_32.png early for heavy AD and Rumble should always get a 3136_32.png during lane phase. Every little advantage will add up and eventually you will just dominate the lane furthermore.
TL;DR
- Farm until level 4
- Farm safely by using Electric Harpoons
- Use Scrap Shield when Autoing minions
- Bully enemy at level 4
- Rush Haunting Guise
- Get early Seekers Armguard when facing AD
What if I'm getting camped?
Don't be angry that the enemy is camping you and is at Top Lane more than your jungler. As I said before, Rumble can snowball top real easily so you will create that pressure on Top Lane and force the enemy to start camping you. I find it beneficial for the enemy jungler to camp my lane because if you know how to handle the situation and survive camp ganks then other lanes will be relieved of jungle pressure and start taking advantage from that. If you get ganked like three times in 5 minutes then i suggest buying a lot of wards because the possibility of getting ganked again is high. Tell your jungler that the enemy jungler is top and he may be able to pick up a free dragon.
TL;DR
- Ward up when you know you are getting camped.
- Beneficial for your teammates if you are getting camped so don't get mad.
- Ask your teammates to do dragon if enemy jungler is at top lane.
Late Game and Team Fights Back to Top
dggfhts.png
Before a 5v5 or any kind of skirmish, just try to poke anybody with your Electro Harpoons (WHY NOT, ITS FREE DAMAGE). Just remember to look at their team and be careful of anything that could possibly catch (Example: Ahri Charm, Elise Cocoon, Ashe Ult, etc). When it is time to fight 5v5, Rumble's ultimate is probably the most important ability that you should land correctly. This ultimate is just so damn good. You use the ult for several situations. First, you could try to land the ultimate on as many people as possible. Next, land it on the enemy carries to disrupt their positioning. Also, you use it to disengage with the slow! If your team has no initiator then YOUR ULTIMATE SHALL BE YOUR INITIATOR. The initial burst damage from the ultimate is not to be reckon with. If you hit a lot of champions then their main reaction would be to get the hell out of the ultimate and that is when your team is able to go in and do some damage. After using your ultimate, you could either try to focus down their carries or just peel for your own. It also depends on how your team composition is like and how their team composition is as well. What I take into account is how well I'M doing as Rumble. If I'm fed and strong then I will try to take down the carry. If I'm shutdown then my only job is to land a very good ultimate and protect my carries.
TL;DR
- Poke people with Electro Harpoons before fights, but watch out for Single Target CC's when doing so.
- Have someone else initiate then use Equalizer on the carries.
- Use Equalizer to initiate fights if you have no initiator.
- Depending on the situation after using Equalizer, peel for your carries or kill their carries.
- If your team is caught in a bad situation use Equalizer to disengage.
Conclusion Back to Top
Thank You!
This concludes my Rumble guide. This was my first guide ever and it is a pretty cool experience for me to share this with everybody. This Rumble Guide still has a lot of updates to be made so continue to use it in the future. League of Legends is always changing so when it does, I will try my best to adapt and update this guide accordingly. Best of luck.
Posted on 6/23/2014: Might have to spend some time changing all the matchups since a lot has changed since.
Suggestions on Playing any other Top Lane Champions:
If you struggle with Rumble or want to try out a different top lane champion then give Riven and Renekton a chance. These two champions are flexible and can win nearly every matchup if played correctly. Both are fun and have so much outplaying potential.
Feedback or Questions:
Any feedback or questions please comment below and I will answer and update my guide to answer your needs. If you would like me to add more matchups then comment and I will do so. Don't be afraid to ask any questions, EVERY QUESTION IS A GOOD QUESTION!
Questions and Answers:
Going to post the questions and answers here so you guys don't have to look for them yourselves :)
Will also be adding questions that people ask me on my friends list.
Please ask more questions if you need help or confused on anything on my guide, thanks.
Question #1:
"How should I operate the overheat bar? I should keep it on half do deal more damage? Or put combo, get overheat and then auto attack with passive?"
Answer #1:
"You should try to keep your overheat bar around 50ish. Remember that every ability generates 20 Heat so the highest amount of Heat you can store to be able to perform a full combo (QWE) is 55."
Question #2:
"If you use your flamespitter while out of danger zone and due to the activation you get into danger zone will the bonus damage be applied?"
Answer #2:
"So to answer your question, you have to BE in the danger zone when using an ability to get the Danger Zone Bonus. If you are at 40 HEAT then use Flamespitter into 60 HEAT then the Flamespitter will do the normal damage. If you are at 40 HEAT then use Electro Harpoon to 60 HEAT then use Flamespitter, it will add the bonus damage. "
Question #3:
"Let's discuss about elise match-up
I'd rather say that if you're getting bullyed in lane you should take mercury treads since he has her stun which is very annoying for rumble And try to rush MR first since mr vs elise is the best way to win her .
initiating a fight with elise when she's in the spider form won't change something since she can turn back to normal form and harass you with ewq combo .
In my opinion the best way to lane against elise is to buy mr early and tons of pots and just harass her when you shield her q and use your movement speed buff to dodge her stun . waiting for your answer :)"
Answer #3:
"First, I can point out is that this matchup was before Elise's spider form nerf where she lost her extra armor and mr she gets. Before the nerf, it was better to get Sorc Shoes instead or Mercs for the extra magic pen, but if you do need MR, then consider getting an early negatron cloak for an abyssal later.Since Rumble can dodge her stun decently with his movement speed buff, the tenacity is not worth the trade off for magic pen vs elise unless their team comp is filled with CC.
If you are getting harassed down by Elise's Q or Ws then consider maxing W second instead of Harpoon to negate the harass damage. Next off, if you fight her during her spider form WITH full hp then all she can do is Q you and transform. Remember that her Q does more damage with less hp you have and the time to transform back is 4 secs. You can deal more damage then her if you overheat in those 4 seconds. If you engage Elise at level 6 when she is in spider form with ignite, you can kill her easily."
Question #4:
"Nice, really great guide! Thanks a lot. And what do you think about Quints 2.7 health regen/5s? Could be worth don't you think?"
Answer #4:
"Hey, thanks! Quints 2.7 Health Regen/5s is really nice on a lot of Top Laners if you want to stay in lane longer. Rumble has huge lane dominance so changing Quints around are a matter of preference."
Question #5:
"Rumble can be considered a good Renekton counter?He become a lot famous and still pwning me in lane with Singed(my main)...I'm thinking about buying Rumble to counter Renek/Nasus,he can?"
Answer #5:
"Rumble vs Renekton is more of a skill matchup that can go either way. If played right, Rumble can beat Renekton pre 6 around levels 4-5. Once its level 6+ then Renekton can beat Rumble, but you can still outplay. On the other note, Rumble vs Nasus is easily Rumble's favor early on. Rumble beats Nasus pretty hard until Nasus gets farm and items."
Question #6:
"So theirs obviously a reason for it but why does noone use nashors tooth when rumble overheats? 40% ap per swing (on a faster swing) seems quite strong"
Answer #6:
"Well, I see your point but using autoattacks with overheat damage is only good for laning I feel. Outside of laning phase you want to land good ulti's for your team. Also, I'm not sure about the calculations, but you might be able to deal more damage with overheat autos with more AP rather than having the nashors passive? I'm not sure."
Question #7:
"Very thorough guide good stuff. Since I'm a yasuo fan boy I'd be interested to see what you think of that match up"
Answer #7:
"Levels 1-4 are hard for Rumble in that matchup. Yasuo will for sure out trade Rumble during those levels because of his shield passive. I feel like post 4 is a skill matchup in Rumble's favor. Rumble can just Q when Yasuo goes up to CS and at post 4, Rumble's Q will begin to do a lot of damage. If you can dodge Yasuo's 3rd stack Q then it will become even easier for Rumble."
Question #8:
"Would you say Rumble is better top laner than someone like Riven or Irelia?"
Answer #8:
"In my opinion, it goes: Riven, Rumble , then Irelia. Riven too OP"
Question #9:
"are you 100% sure that you don't get the danger zone bonus when you use an abillity at 40 heat to bring you into the danger zone?"
Answer #9:
"Yes"
Question #10:
"What do you think about shyvana top against rumble? I've faced a lot of shyvana and I think it's a skill MU but I'm waiting for your opinion :p"
Answer #10:
"I haven't faced a Shyvana top as Rumble yet, but I have a generally idea of how the matchup will go I think. It definitely is a skill matchup. I think Shyvana might outdamage Rumble at lvl's 1-2 but will lose 4-6. Rushing Liandry's in this matchup is probably the way to go. Lvl's 6 and beyond will be all skill base. Need to land slows in order to create distance from Shyvana's W. As soon as Shyvana ults, you need to ult underneath yourself. I might be wrong since I haven't played the matchup yet but I think that's a pretty accurate assumption."
Question #11:
"Hey, really nice guide, great work. Do you have though any tips on how to properly land Rumble's ultimate. I've played Rumble a couple of times but i can't seem to land those ultimates neither with smartcast nor without."
Answer #11:
"I'm not sure about non-smartcast because i honestly don't remember haha its been awhile using non-smartcast. But for smartcast, where ever your cursor is at when you press R is going to be the STARTING POINT of the ultimate. After that, you simply just drag your mouse at the direction where you want to throw the ultimate. Practice doing it in a custom."
Question #12:
"What do you think of the new twin shadows on rumble instead of rabbadons. I feel like it has really good stats for rumble like move speed and cdr and it has the active which would really help on rumble when chasing someone down."
Answer #12:
"I don't know if I would build it instead of deathcap because deathcap increases your damage significantly (120AP + 30% of AP). I think Twin Shadows is a really good item, but I think other item choices are better. Movement speed items aren't a priority for Rumble since he has his W and for chasing, Rumble has his E along with Rylais. I feel like it is a very situational item and should only be built when you are way ahead."
Nerf/Change Log Back to Top
March 2013 - Rumble's Ultimate Change:
So probably many of the Rumble players out there want to know if Rumble is still good or not after the change recently to his ultimate. In my opinion, Rumble is still very good and of course viable. He may not have the ability to snipe as good as he could before, but remember that this change was only towards his ultimate. Rumble can still be a bully levels 4-6 with only his Q,W,E kit. The champions that Rumble could beat before can still be beaten. This change only drag out fights a little bit longer and it means you have to land the ultimate more strategically. RUMBLE IS STILL A BEAST YO.
Note: The ultimate does do the same amount of damage as the old one ONLY IF the enemy is in the ultimate trail for the entire 5 seconds.
Here was the recent change
OLD:
Rumble launches a line of rockets at the targeted area dealing 150/225/300 (+0.5*AP)magic damage and leaving a burning trail for 5 seconds dealing 100/140/180 (+0.2*AP) magic damage per second and slowing opponents by 35 % while inside the area of effect.
Cost
0/0/0
Range
1750
Cooldown
105/90/75 Seconds
NEW:
Rumble launches a line of rockets that creates a burning trail for 5 seconds.Enemies in the area have their Movement Speed slowed by 35 % and take 130/185/240 (+0.3*AP) magic damage each second.
Cost
0/0/0
Range
1750
Cooldown
105/90/75 Seconds
May 2013 - Flamespitter and Electro Harpoon Changes
Flamespitter
Damage decreased to 75/135/195/255/315 (+1.0 Ability Power) from 90/160/230/300/370 (+1.35 Ability Power)
Danger Zone damage bonus increased to 50% from 25%
Electro-Harpoon
Damage decreased to 45/70/95/120/145 (+0.4 Ability Power) from 55/85/115/145/175 (+0.5 Ability Power)
So, this change will cause Rumble to be less of a threat during laning phase unless you are really skilled at keeping the heat around Danger Zone. I feel like if you are skilled at keeping the heat around Danger Zone then this change wouldn't change much although Electro Harpoons did get reduced damage overall. Basically, this change will  cause the Rumble players to actually practice how to manage your heat better. Also, I feel like Rumble has become a very balanced Champion to the point where you have to pick Rumble for counter picks and situational picks instead of just first picking because he counters everyone.
SUPER GALAXY RUMBLE MAKES CS-ING EASIER LOL (Buggy tho)
