Why not 18 points in Cunning?

-This is very important and listen to me, Thunderlord has a cooldown. Yes you can instantly proc it with rumbleflamethrower.png but it isn't worth it. Thunderlords gives the enemy a 15-25 seconds cooldown (depending on level) to abuse the fact that you dont have a keystone up. If you bring deathfire touch, you can apply it to more than 1 person on the enemy team and it constantly adds damage throughout the game.
-The only time you bring Thunderlords is if you are Jungle Rumble for the burst you bring in ganks, also the 15-25 second cooldown is less abused.

Quick Explanation

Most of the core items are pretty reasonable if you think about how it synergizes with Rumble's kit. So, I'm only going to explain the situation items.

Situational Items

Abyssal Scepter

-Used when they have a heavy ap team and you need to build MR and MP(Magic Pen) at the same time

Void Staff

-This completes the illuminati triangle of magic pen with Rumble---->liandrys-torment.gifvoid-staff.gifsorcerers-shoes.gif

-Good against tanky comps

VS

Aatrox

Easy

Abuse his early game before he gets enough lifesteal, go for all ins since he's all about sustaining. Also, he's all about auto attacking so its easy to harass him while he tries to cs

VS

Akali

Easy

Pre 6 akali is not scary at all, first back buy you both usually get a hextech revolver so make sure to overheat aa when you want to trade with her to match her akalimota.png aa burst. Also very important, equalize once she shadow dashes in and always bring a pink ward for her shroud akalismokebomb.png.

VS

Cassiopeia

Medium

Start boots and 4 pots, abuse her when she goes oomed in the early game. After that, its a bit harder to 1v1 her but first back buying a negatron gives you trading potential if you dodge her cassiopeianoxiousblast.png.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

A good chogath plays super safe throughout the early game and sustains until they are so tanky you can't kill them. First item rush liandries because of how chogath gains health from feast.png stacks. If they dont play safe during the early game, abuse it and try to first blood them.

VS

Darius

Medium

Try to farm up, trade when his dariuscleave.png is down. It has about a 6 second cooldown so just count it out before you start walking back to avoid counter trade. Level 6 hard to all in but poking should be enough to give you lane dominance. Watch out for early hexdrinker or event a spectres cowl. Regardless, with his sustain and trade potential, haunting guise into a hextech revolver offers really good burst trade potential. If he builds MR go from haunting guise into sorc shoes and finish the guise into liandries.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

Rush magic penetration versus this guy. Also you win the early game all in if you want to go for it.

VS

Ekko

Easy

Watch out for theekkoW.png, it lets ekko trade freely and then run away after a passive proc. He has to aa you with his ekkoE.png so just wait till then and lay the damage on him.

VS

Fiora

Medium

Easy during early game, but once she has 2 or 3 items she gets a lot harder to 1v1 because of her sustain. Walk a little back because losing vision of you removes her passive proc position on you. #EasyRe-Roll. In the late game rely on quick and strong teamfights so fiora doesn't split push since late game fiora is hard to contest split push wise.

VS

Gangplank

Easy

Don't let him scale up, you do well against him during all points of the game and can 1v1 him unless he decides to buy a lifesteal item. Try to abuse him when he decides to use his ult in other lanes. You can cheese him pretty hard by waiting in a bush and then all in-ing him

VS

Garen

Easy

Kite him

VS

Illaoi

Hard

Outsustains you, and illaoiE.png will mess you up if you get caught. If she misses her e tho, go for a trade since thats a huge part of her damage. Also do your best to dodge any tentacles to avoid spell vamp and lifesteal for her. She has a strong all in, but if you play the lane properly you can poke her and prevent her sustain until you can all in her. I recommend going into hextech revolver since she has to go into melee form if she really wants to fight you

VS

Irelia

Hard

Skill matchup, start boots 4 pot. You gain the mobility to follow/kite her and you can sustain on an even level with her ireliahitenstyle.png. Care for all ins and make sure you are at least facing her with rumbleflamethrower.png when she stuns you. First back buy get a amp tome and a ruby crystal and see what the Irelia builds. If Irelia looks to go for a triforce then go into protobelt. If she goes towards wits end, which is worst case scenario, finish your boots for magic pen with sorc shoes and build towards a haunting guise. With the teleport nerfs, Irelia has a harder time teleport ganking other lanes. Also the nerfs to her passive help in that case as well. With those 2 facts in mind, you can bring ignite into lane and increase your kill potential and beat Irelia's all in power by cutting her sustain in half.

VS

Jarvan IV

Easy

If he uses jarvanivdragonstrike.png or jarvanivdemacianstandard.png abuse the fact that he cant all in you with a cc swag flag and drag.

VS

Jax

Easy

Can kite easily, you win pre 6 and can all in pretty well.

VS

Jayce

Medium

Dont underestimate his all in potential. His burst comes out for nowhere and at least wait until he uses the acceleration gate + q combo before attempting to trade. I recommend waiting for jungle assistance and if you dont get it just farm with rumblegrenade.png.

VS

Kayle

Medium

Check out gnar matchup, works in a similar way except wait until kayleE.png is down and then go in for trade.

VS

Kennen

Medium

Hard to all in since he can just kennenlightningrush.png out, try to watch his poke from his doran blade start. Early negatron also helps with sustaining trades and poke first back buy.

VS

Kled

Medium

Kled's all in is super scary, but you can poke him out, and once he loses skaarl you can kill him pretty easily. When it comes to teamfights and Kled tries to engage with his ult. Chances are that he will be far ahead of his teammates, if he is, you can drop the equalizer to isolate kled and kill him before the rest of his team comes in!

VS

Malphite

Easy

Useless rock is easy to counter, just go amp tome start and harass hard since he cant really rebuttle against flamespitter damage.

VS

Maokai

Easy

Sustain isnt enough to cancel out the amount of damage you do with your rumbleflamethrower.png

VS

Nasus

Easy

Kick his ass early game, because when late game hits it'll be already ogre

VS

Pantheon

Easy

Watch out for his stun combo, besides that just make sure your rumbleflamethrower.png is facing him when you are stunned so you at least get damage off. Level 6 you destroy him so start cloth 4 pots and sustain the early game till you get items.

VS

Quinn

Medium

Ranged champions always add an extra difficulty point for Rumble, try to land a harpoon as quinn quinnE.png in. If you can land that slow you can pretty much continue the trade with rumbleflamethrower.png and rumblegrenade.png

VS

Renekton

Medium

Watch out after first back buy, if renekton has magic resist this lane becomes a lot harder than it should be. Sort of like Maokai lane where his sustain isnt enough to really outsustain your trade. Try to trade but be very careful for renektonsliceanddice.png-->aa-->renektonpreexecute.png-->aa-->renektoncleave.png-->aa--> renektonsliceanddice.png back out. You beat him pre level 6, but 6+ renekton beats you so stick to teamfights and take him down then.

VS

Riven

Easy

If she goes in, just kite her and trade with rumbleflamethrower.png as she tries to walk back after her initial trade. Watch out for her all in from levels 1-3 and 6. Levels 4-5 you outdamage her and can win lane possibly before she backs and gets more cdr/hexdrinker.

VS

Ryze

Medium

Same as Cassiopeia, wait till he's oomed and outtrade hard. Early negatron will help you survive lane after he comes back with tear.

VS

Shen

Medium

Gets a bit harder when he stacks magic resist. Follow up when he ults somewhere with a teleport if its favorable or you think you can help

VS

Singed

Easy

This guy usually doesnt try to fight you, but if he does then kill him. If he proxies, blow his ghost or flash whatever he brings. rumblecarpetbomb.png usually cuts off his escape route and makes it easy for people to collapse and for you to chase him. Just dont go too hard and choke on the poison

VS

Sion

Easy

Easy match up, just pop the shield with flame spitter and watch out for his crypticgaze.png. Rush liandry since he gets health with every cs he gets.

VS

Swain

Hard

Just an annoying match up,  try to farm with harpoons and kill him with jungler and even better idea, just push in towards his toward and roam. If he uses his ult to farm, it auto pushes the wave towards you and it has a 25 second cooldown which is a giant time game for you to all in him.

VS

Tahm Kench

Medium

Hide around minions to avoid his tahmkenchQ.png and build liandries for the percentage health damage.

VS

Teemo

Hard

Spawn of satan, impossible to kill Kappa. Tbh not a hard match up, just watch out for his poke. Your all in is a lot strong so try to farm with harpoon and then when you hit 6 kill him. You can also try killing him early since his blind doesnt do much for you unless you try to overheat for the kill.

VS

Trundle

Hard

Sustains pretty hard throughout entire game, late game has enough mr to deal with you and enough sustain to the point where your flamespitter only does 1/8 of his health. Avoid 1v1s level 6 and up unless you have the magic penetration to deal with him.

VS

Tryndamere

Easy

You can outsustain him early game, late game its impossible to 1v1 him unless you get him to ult and then zhonyas to stall it out all while you have a good amount of health to survive when you get out of zhonyas.  Group up with team

VS

Udyr

Easy

Whenever he goes into bear stance, just walk back and throw a harpoon at him. This is an easy lane whether if you want to farm or kill him. He lacks kill pressure so just watch out  if he brings 6.png. Even then, you can still kite him and you destroy him after 6 since you get a better power spike with rumblecarpetbomb.png

VS

Vladimir

Medium

Sustain is super hard, just farm, not going to kill him once he buys his spirit visage. If he messes up a trade in the early game try to abuse it before he vladimirtransfusion.png his health back up. His teamfight is just as strong as your and he lives for a very long time if you try to focus him. So plan of action: buy boots and 4 pot since he'll probably poke you everytime you try to cs. Try to hit level 2 fast and outtrade him to gain lane control. He pushes the wave just as fast as you so dont be scared to use flamespitter to trade despite pushing your wave in. If you can kill him early, he has a hard time coming back in the game because of the cost of his items.

VS

Volibear

Medium

You shred him early game and can pop his passive even quicker. Two choice, bring teleport and just sustain through the lane or bring ignite and try to kill him which is easily possible with Rumble's kill potential. Once he builds MR he becomes pretty hard to all in so build liandries first and poke him to do percentage health to him and poke him out of lane(If you're still in laning phase by the time you finish liandries).

VS

Wukong

Easy

Watch out for levels 1 and 2 trades and all in. After that you can survive everything from his all ins to any trade if you played right.

VS

Yasuo

Easy

Such an easy lane. Flamespitter range is so wide that it doesnt matter how much maneuvering he does with his yasuoE.png you burn him while he's trying to look fancy. If you are both 6, equalize your wave and stand in it so even if he ults you he burns from equalizer when he gets back down to the ground. Pre-level 4 he can outtrade you. Stay by your minions so if he dashes around, he's at least taking caster minion damage on top of your flamespitter.

VS

Yorick

Medium

He is hard to kill because of his sustain, but once you get hextech revolver trade an overheat revolver aa for him to proc his yorickspectral.png. Your all in is better just dont overextend trades and kill the yorickdecayed.png as fast as you can so he doesnt sustain as much.

Introduction Back to Top

So clearly I'm a Rumble main, main account Nifty Rumble, Diamond 5. Rumble is the perfect champion  to climb the elo ladder for top laners and even in the jungle. He's a strong pick since he has a low pick and ban rate. Also, most people dont really know how to deal with Rumble since he's technically out of meta but can battle even the top tier laners right now in the 6.16 meta. Feel free to add me in game if you have any further questions! Good luck on the rift summoners.

Rules Of Rumble Back to Top

Rule #1

Rule #1 about Rumble Club, don't talk about Rumble club (If you get the reference, bonus cookies)

Rule #2

Don't fight without at least 40% heat

Rule #3

Never overheat with rumbleshield.png unless it's a sure fire kill

Rule #4

If you aren't good at equalizers yet, don't bring it into ranked and you can practice it pretty easily by playing viktor and using his laser repetitively.

Rule #5

Last but not least, always always try to make plays happen. Try new things out like roaming, all in-ing, and diving towers with your equalizer. It's very important that you find the limits of what you can and can't do with Rumble, and there's a helluva high limit to what you can do.
