Summoner Spells Back to Top

14.png11.png Duh. Exhaust is OK but kinda hinders your assassination potential, so ignite is best in 99.9999% of games. You will find yourself losing too many kills without it.

New Runes Back to Top

Masteries Back to Top

Just standard Shaco runes. Intelligence because CDR is even more effective on Q now. TLD is better than stormraiders, even though raiders is strong, it loses you too many kills. Go raiders if you build gunblade only because TLD is bugged. Proto still procs TLD just fine. You can stay safe enough without needing that MS.

twoshivpoison.png Pretty decent passive, improves clear and increases you Q scaling (technically). Crit damage marks make Shaco's passive super strong.

deceive.pngQ is mostly used for general sneakiness on AP build as opposed to damage, but don't underestimate it early. Crit + lich bane is a vital part of your late game combo.  I max it first because I have to.
jackinthebox.pngW is your only form of hard CC but it is also very conditional. When ganking, make sure to place your box where you expect your target to be within 2 seconds. When dueling, try to lead your enemy into previously placed boxes or place the box right next to them. Be careful of your enemy smiting or instakilling the box before the fear pops. Box puts down hard damage early on and its ap scaling is 0.2 per hit.

hallucinatefull.png Clone also scales 1:1 and has a lot of interesting uses and interactions. In my experience, the clone is very nice for taking out low players behind their tower without having to chase or take hits. Keep in mind, while your E is up, your clone's autos slow the target. In addition, your clone can apply red. My favorite tactic is using the clone to continuously slow a target or sending the clone into a bunch of targets for a massive nuke.
Activating hallucinate also makes you invulnerable for a short period, which lets you dodge many targeted abilities like annie Q Leblanc Q, Veigar ult, ETC. Sometimes, using hallucinate can get you over small walls like dragon pit, but your positioning after use is completely random.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

Situational Items

Core build is what i build 99% of the time. Abyssal sometimes over void into low MR high magic dmg enemies. Sorcs if you're really ahead since cdr is more supportive than 1shotty. Always go runic > proto > ionian > lich, theres no other build that works better than this, only the last 2 items are relatively situational.

Keep in mind, hextech revolver will proc on your clone as well, so you can 1shot people with runic/hextech by cloning, AAing with both, using chilling smite, and Eing them. This combo generally 1shots ADCs/supps/mids or any other squishy targets. Once you have proto, things get a little more complicated . The best way to blow someone up is to Q in, position to hit all the proto rockets, and make sure to E BEFORE YOU PROTOBELT IN. If you protobelt then try to e, you can mess up your runic proc and lose out on a kill.

Once you have lich you gain the ability to BD. Just make sure when you're pushing that you place your box in a spot that it can last its full duration.

Once your core is complete, look around at the enemy build. If you see GAs, Banshees, Maws, Visages, you definitely want a void. If you see only scattered mr items or a lot of hp, you may want to go deathcap beforehand. I often like to buy mejais as well if I'm sitting on 10 dark seal stacks and not dying often.

In fights, I like to imagine I'm kassadin or kha'zix. They have very similar  playstyles in the way that you want to be sneaking around looking for picks. Know your damage, and know their builds. If you can 80% the adc, and you see the adc with 65% hp sitting away from his team, you need to strike.

VS

Aatrox

Easy

Accidentally put aatrox here. Aatrox is a meme champion you can just dump him.

VS

Elise

Hard

Elise is actually pretty difficult for AP Shaco just in the sense that she can stun and 1shot you before you can react. She, like graves, clears the jungle without taking any damage whatsoever, so be mindful of that as well. Best way to beat elise is by warding around midlane and looking for counterganks. You very rarely win even 1v1s because her projectiles are very fast (therefore difficult to dodge) and her spiderling (W) is very hard to shake. Try to confuse her with your clone and get her to blow it up on herself/her spiderlings.

VS

Gragas

Easy

Gragas is pretty easy for a shaco who is comfortable with his Q and R. He is usually not full hp during pre-runic clears and has to blow CDs to farm camps, so you can easily catch him out. If you are on purple side, look to start red then run to his blue to steal easily. He is also fairly squishy before he buys a tank item and stacks SoTA a bit.

TIPS:

You can dodge his R with yours if timed right.

You can block his E with a box.

You CANNOT q over his e, you must Q to the side.

VS

Graves

Medium

Graves is fairly equal on the annoying scale, but you can outpressure him in lanes early on. If you can get runic + hextech before he gets too stacked on SoTA and you can stay within a level of him, you will be able to beat him in 1v1s. Graves also will not be doing anything to peel you off important targets when you're fighting and is susceptible to box stacking.

Decent tip, most graves' will combo their q with their ult instantly. You can use Hallucinate to dodge the 2nd part of his q (which deals more dmg) and his ult for the best trading results. Keep in mind, invading a graves is very risky because he's almost never below 80% hp.

VS

Hecarim

Easy

Hecarim can never 1v1 you and his 1st clear is garbage. Find out where he starts, hit lv 3, and destroy him. Dont give him any chances to get back into the game because he will. 1 solo kill and 1 countergank will be the end of hecarim.

TIPS:

Good Hecarims will start blue buff, so don't expect to lv 2 cheese, lv 3 you have better 1v1 potential and escape potential.

You can hallucinate (R) to cancel his E charge. This is the majority of his burst damage, so being able to perform that will win you many fights.

VS

Kha'Zix

Medium

I rate kha only as a medium because if he dumps on your team you're probably screwed. Don't mess with kha until 6 unless you see he's low. You won't win unless you have clone to remove isolation damage.

TIPS

Most khas won't build hexdrinker until at least after youmuus, you can almost always 1shot him with clone + runic + hextech.

This matchup is VERY snowbally, so make sure to utilize any advantage you get.

Keep drag warded because he will try to solo it, and although quick, it will hurt him hard.

Well placed boxes will DESTROY khazix in teamfights. If he wastes e to go in and gets feared, his target has time to run and your team has time to converge onto him.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

Dodge his Qs and you win every time. Lee is easy to lv 2 or lv 3 and pretty much free past 6. Put down wards around mid and countergank him whenever you see him.

I have him upgraded to medium now though just because he outpressures you hard early, but you can gain ground back in mid game.

VS

Nidalee

Medium

Nidalee is annoying as hell and unstoppable if she gets ahead, but if you play it right, you can prevent her from doing anything. First and foremost, CHALLENGE HER BLUE EVERY GAME. 1st blue allows her to survive by constantly healing herself, no blue = no heals. A nid without blue will fall 1-2 lvs behind you guaranteed. Remember, a Nidalee must be 2 lvs ahead to be even with you in usefulness. If you can put her behind, do not relent on the pressure or she will come back. Take everything you can from her.

TIPS:
You can avoid her w damage by using R then avoid her q by using your Q. This will mess up a lot of her cougar damage.

Avoid getting hunted at all costs, spears should never hit you.

If you hit a trap she will see you in stealth.

Abyssal is a good idea into nid.

VS

Rek'Sai

Hard

This champ is annoying as hell. Outclears, outduels, sees you all the time, tanks out, and generally just dumps all over you. Just pray shes bad. If she's unskilled, you may be able to catch her in the river and beat her up over scuttle. Otherwise, your only hope is to catch her botching a gank and get a lead off that.

VS

Rengar

Medium

see: Kha'zix notes. Very similar matchup though rengar's a bit more invade-able early. Keep in mind, most rengars will do the valkrin lv 6 clear path, so become familiar with where he ends up at what times. Rengar also gets very low on his 1st clear and is susceptible to boxes late.

TIPS:
If rengar ults, save your q until AFTER he jumps, otherwise, he will see your movement in stealth. Furthermore, you may want to hold off on trying to go for sneaky plays until after he jumps in. You may even want to just peel with your boxes and damage.

Rengar is single-target, so if you can sell the clone, you may be able to waste a lot of his combo and get the clone nuke onto him.

VS

Zac

Medium

Deep ward him. Beating zac comes down to who counterganks who.

TIPS

Use hallucinate for his E then AA + shiv and Q away. Maybe even set a box nearby before you Q . Beat him up with your clone then set to E him again. Deny his blobs

Early Game Back to Top

I tend to like to start blue side. 2 boxes gromp, 2 boxes at the tip of the blue  bush (closest to side lane). If no leash, tank first hit from gromp, then change aggro to boxes and smite. Once you finish gromp, place a box behind blue and start. Tank 1 hit then aggro to the single box. Nake sure to hug the wall near the boxes when kiting the buff back. Kite blue to the 2 boxes and aggro it to closest box. Next do the wolves, large one first, box right in front of large wolf. Box should come off CD before you finish the camp, hit the last small one 1 time then box in front of its path.

Next, you can either cheese or go to red. On blue side, I like to cheese enemy top side unless im facing kha or graves. You should have a smite charge so you can steal red easily. If you skirmish while red is high HP, make sure to be the first one to smite it, so you can get a ton of hp back. The enemy jungler will almost always flash or die to you. Keep an eye out for rotating laners and stall to regain your q.

Always be looking to snowball your strongest lanes before tending to the weak lanes. You need to get yourself at least a little ahead somehow. Avoid ganking for super weak early champs like diana or GP until theyve reached their power spikes, even if they're complaining to you. Your main focus in early game is yourself. Once you have runic + hextech, you can look to help lanes that aren't winning.

You can still easily solo drag at 6 as long as you control scuttle and pink it.

Look for first tower gold, it is a great snowball tool.

Mid Game/Group Phase Back to Top

During mid game, you should look to either make picks or siege. AP Shaco is a very strong poker but can also set up picks by instantly popping a carry. Put down boxes in popular flanks and escape routes, these will save lives and are very important! Avoid the "illuminati box" setup unless the enemy team has virtually no aoe or you have a team that thrives in choke points. It's too risky for almost no reward. It's not bad to setup 3 in 1 spot vs dive champs like ekko/reng/kha, but thats about it. Always make sure to ping out your boxes and alert your team to their presence, they act as an emergency exit and can be used for remote peeling.
