Summoner Spells Back to Top

"Why don't you have Ignite?!?!"

4.png
231.png

The Late game Summoner Spell

This build is focused around playing towards late game.  That is where Shaco is the most powerful and impact in fights.  Taking flash is unnecessary and that is precisely why it is amazing on Shaco.  Dark Harvest Shaco does not have any early game pressure, so there is no reason to take ignite.  Ignite gives some early game pressure, and that is the benefit, but ignite is pretty useless late game when you are killing their carries with one shot.  Flash gives you the opportunity to flash over a wall to steal an objective, flash out of or into a teamfight, or whatever you do with flash.  It gives Shaco, the already slippery champion, another trick up his sleeve.  Long story short, ignite is for the Electrocute Shaco's that fall off late game.

 The Recipe For Success

35.png + Dark%20Harvest.png?width=64
Dark%20Harvest.png?width=32Dark Harvest is the perfect item for Shaco, because he does most of his damage with his auto attack.  Dark%20Harvest.png?width=32Dark Harvest and 3147.png Duskblade give Shaco the damage he needs to further into late game.  Dark harvest allows you to snowball yourself into your teams carry, because it encourages you to gank because of the stacks gained by kills.  I also like to wait around in a lane for a little bit if there is a cannon minion so that I can grab the stacks from it.  As a very low end beginning goal, I would say to aim for at least 80 stacks in 17 minutes.  You know you're going to be extremely fed if you hit over 115 stacks in 20 minutes.
231.png

Inspiration as the secondary tree?

2422.png Slightly magical boots give you the speed you need and pretty quickly.  The reason this is quick is because of the early game kill participation you will have.  A free 300g is also very nice to have on Shaco early game.  Shaco needs to accelerate his build to get Duskblade as quick as possible, so this is something that helps him out a ton.

Cosmic%20Insight.png?width=32 Cosmic insight helps to give you more cooldown reduction in general which is awesome for Shaco.  This helps with adding to the 3158.png cooldown reduction!

Shaco does not need to have any extra damage and as with most of Shaco he is very customizable with his build and his runes.  I recommend using what is most comfortable as your secondary tree, because he is viable with most of the different rune trees.
231.png

Ganking Early

This is not something that Shaco does well with Darkharvest.  To gank with dark harvest prior to reaching your Dark%20Harvest.png?width=32150 stack mark, you need to make sure that you have a stack.  If you have no stack then you should not be ganking a laner over 50% HP.
231.png

Ganking at 150+ Stacks

At this point in the game you should have a decent amount of your build finished.  This means that you are a very very very large threat to the enemy carries.  Now walking around with this sort of dominance offers you a multitude of options.  Since you are under no pressure to finish a camp or grab a stack from some other place, you are able to make a couple of different decisions.  You can either 1.) Wait for someone to rotate on their team from one lane to another and kill them, you can teamfight with your team and either 2.) Initiate and do your damage on the carry (Which should kill them) and then try and get out. 3.) Initiate and do your damage but purposely stay in the fight to get rid of the enemy teams Crowd Control abilities or.  Now those are probably the best options for your stack usage.  The reason why the last option works so well is because the weight you carry as a rather ahead or on par Shaco is terrifying for the other team.  Your presence in a teamfight means that they have to do everything they can to save whichever squishy you decide to jump on.  Of course there are plenty of other options, but those are probably the most common ones that you should be doing.

Why are you having me put 2 points in my Q?

deceive.png Shaco's Q is pretty useless for ganking at level 1.  Putting 2 points into it enables you to gank pretty efficiently without sacrificing too much of your e's slow or damage.  I do not recommend ganking previous to having these 2 points into your Q.  You should be level 4 by this time.
231.png
twoshivpoison.png It's pretty important to note that your e slows the enemy when it is available.  This is important to note, because you should not blow it immediately in some cases.  There are certain times when this should be kept until the enemy either Flashes away or uses an escape.  It is also important to understand that the lower HP the enemy is, the more damage your shiv will do.

    High Elo Start
    Low Elo Start

Core Items

This build never really changes for me. by the time you have these two items you will already have your boots from your runes.
    Dusk --> Lucidity --> Shiv --> IE --> Ghostblade --> Ravenous
You should buy this if you are entering into a fight and your inventory is full.

Situational Items

Control Ward???

2055.png The reason I start with the control ward is because I like to ward the bush outside of my red buff by the river.  This usually gives my mid laner, top and me a pretty big safety net.  In Diamond I consistently see other players try and take my raptors with this ward, and then proceed to try and gank mid or top because I have already taken my raptors.  I recommend this only in high elo, I do not see this ward being too useful in low elo.

2003.png The reason I include only this besides for hunters machete in the low elo start is because potions give you a little bit of a safety net if you accidentally take too much damage from a camp or if you are learning Shaco.
231.png

3158.pngLucidity Boots?  Really?

Holy cow yes!  Lucidity boots are just what you need when you play Shaco with my playstyle.  I play for the late game and I love to use my ultimate hallucinatefull.png to secure objectives or to be slippery.  These boots enable you to have your ult up exactly when you need it.  Getting these sort of early on is usually an awesome idea, however I do not recommend getting them before level 6.  This would be really hard to do with your runes anyway!
231.png

How do I spend and When?

3077.png You should buy tiamat in your first back.  1200 gold is not very expensive and you can usually get an early kill at level 4.  You should buy this as soon as possible.  This is not only helpful for your clear, but is essential for your combo.

3147.png Duskblade is your main damage item and if you are very fed finish this before your 3158.png.  If you are on par with an average game, then go ahead and finish your boots after you get your dirk.

2055.png I buy one of these every single back that I have the money for.  I would highly recommend taking this over taking potions at any point in the game if you are not learning Shaco.

3074.png It is very unlikely you will end up buying this item, because your build is pretty expensive, and with your damage the games end relatively quickly.  Buy this item absolute last in your build.

231.png

3142.png or 3026.png?

3142.png Ghostblade offers tons of damage and movement speed, but does not offer you much in the defense department.  I rarely purchase GA, and usually only do so if I am behind or if they have a fed Rengo 107.png or similar assassin.

VS

Ivern

Hard

This guy is just like Nunu with his clear, with the exception of taking dragons and baron.  You can outsmite an Ivern, but his early clear is pretty rough.  His shields are also a pretty big buzzkill.

VS

Janna

Hard

Janna is hard because of her shield and Ult.  When facing Janna, you can make the matchpu easier for yourself if you wait for her to use her shield and either kill the squishy she did not shield, or wait until the shield disappears from whoever she used it on.  Most of the time she will not shield herself so I can pop her quickly.

VS

Jarvan IV

Easy

This matchup is very easy for Shaco because you are not going to be worried about early game like JIV is.  JIV falls off late so he's pretty irrelevant to you.  Just try and counter his ganks and you will be fine!

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

Shaco has a pretty easy time with Lee Sin, but Lee Sin's ability to gain vision of you is what makes this matchup a little bit sketchy.  As long as you avoid early game contact and dominate dragon's you will be fine come late game.

VS

Lulu

Hard

Lulu is problematic similar to Janna, because of ALL her abilities.  You pretty much have to wait out most of her abilities then go in, or try and get picks.

VS

Nunu

Hard

I hate this guy.  This guy is one of the worst matchups for Shaco because he can just consume.png your boxes.  It sucks!  He can also clear faster than you and take objectives.  This guy is a bannable champ in my opinion.

VS

Sejuani

Hard

Tanks are just a pretty big no with Shaco.  Sejuani has the ability to not get slowed by you immediately which poses a few problems.  Her passive also helps her to not take very much damage from you.  Again this matchup is winnable if you get objectives and focus on squishies.

VS

Skarner

Hard

Shaco has a really rough time against tanks because he is not able to 1 shot them like squishies.  Especially this dude, he's a no fun Champ for Shaco.  The matchup is still winnable though, because Skarner can't solo objectives like Shaco can!

VS

Warwick

Hard

Warwick is a challenge when playing Shaco, because he is not only tanky but does a decent amount of damage.  Warwick can also sense when you get below a certain percent of HP, so soloing objective can get pretty hard.

Early Game Clear Path Back to Top

Where to start and where to go next?

I always start with red buff as Shaco.  I put my control ward in the bush right by the pit of whatever objective side I am on (Baron if on Red Side, Dragon if on Blue).  I start to place my boxes at 1:30 and then if the jungler offers to leash me I usually do not refuse.  UNLESS IT'S THIS DUDE 29.png DO NOT LET HIM LEASH YOU. After red buff I go to my wraith camp.  Place your box in the center of the little wraiths. I then go to wolves.  On the way to wolves I use my 1 hp pot.  I then ward my blue over the wall and use the blast cone to get onto the wolves.  Place your box at the head of the largest wolf.  This will make the box attack the big guy, who you kill first. At this point in the game you should have almost 2 charges of smite 11.png available.  Use your first charge to kill Blue buff and then head to Gromp.  Kill Gromp then head into the river, but hit the vision plant to gain vision of the river towards mid lane.  Then kill scuttle with smite.  Then you can head mid to start your ganks!  If you need gold for your first back (1200g is the goal) head over to the Krugs after trying to gank Mid if they are not too pushed.
