Summoner Spells Back to Top

3.png Exhaust

- Exhaust is the go to spell for any support. It's great at reducing the damage of their hyper-carry, or just to slow down a quick enemy like 77.png or maybe get vision on which one is it like 35.png or 7.png.

14.png Ignite

- Ignite isn't really something I take on any support, I'm more of a passive player. Ignite is something you can take with the new Soraka to start up a kill lane.

New Runes Back to Top

Masteries Back to Top

Personally I like to have these masteries for the usage of mobility and healing. This is the more passive route for most passive playing supports, and example would be 40.png. This mainly focuses on being the back line and protecting from afar without losing too much health.

The best for an agressive Soraka is to remove all the points in resolve, and go the medic route (aka damage dealing healer/shields). Take Sorcery, Expose Weakness, Natural Talent, and Oppressor. This is to deal more damage with your Q.

Passive: Salvation

Salvation is one of the best (personal opinion) passives on a support. It helps Soraka go to her team for the clutch save and for that last second save (unintentionally) towards a low ally. Using this can be useful in the late game when your tank is somewhat low. The mobility helps a lot.

starcall.png

Q: Starcall

This is your very own AOE slow and heal. With the recent updates her buffed damage was removed and a regeneration buff was added. Use this to apply the pressure that old Soraka never could. The low mana costs makes it an easy pressure tool and the AOE slow is super useful for an ally to catch up for a kill or to slow them to run away. The regeneration buff is really useful for running away or dodging some skill shots. The regeneration helps with sustaining yourself, as well your W as well.

astralblessing.png

W: Astral Infusion

I love this spell, one of the most strongest and deadliest heal spell in the game. This spell is a reap what you sow kinda spell. Only use it when your ADC or an ally has lost about 100 health. Use it in combo after your q to enhance your heal strength and apply a move speed buff when running. This takes some of your health, so use it wisely, and carefully. Do not heal when low or in a bad position, it will never end up well.

UPDATE: Since there is a high cooldown early on please do note being very careful with early heals. It will end up being a 2 second cooldown later but it is necessary to be careful with it early. Use it only when your ally ends up getting below 30%-40% health.
infuse.png

E: Equinox

Honestly, one of the most powerful spells in the game. It is an AOE cc that silences, but over a period of time, roots. This is one of the most unexpected skills to the enemy, because they doubt the damage from the end of the spell. This spell is great for stopping hard engage or burst champions. Some examples would be 55.png or 92.png.

wish.png

R: Wish

This. Spell. Is. OP. A global heal that can help your entire team in dire positions. When your top laner and jungler is low, "LIVE!" They win the top lane. The enemy might do enough damage to almost kill your allies, but you just deny it with that global presence. You can also end up getting assists by using this, yay for global ults. :3

Spell Usage

Soraka's Starcall is amazing for applying pressure in lane, use it to regen health back, or to apply that pressure that you have. Great for holding back an enemy when they try to go for you or your ADC. When you land your Q, use it with your W whenever your ADC's health is down to give health and the regeneration buff. When running away, Q the chasing enemy and W your ADC, the buff doesn't go off you, just applies it to your ADC as well. (Note that when I say ADC, I mean who ever you're with at the time.)

Use your E where the enemy is going to apply the root affect, or place it under the enemy to silence them, simple as that.

Use your ult only when you need it, the cooldown is pretty high when you don't have and CDR in your build.

ANCIENT COIN vs. SPELLTHEIF'S EDGE

When it comes to these items, it depends on your playstyle, or your prediction of how the game is going to go.

Ancient Coin

This is truly a staple item that a Soraka should take. Do you have to? No. This is for any lane that you can get you locked down easy or get poked the life out of you. This is more of the pacifist route of the build, but you don't have to take this. I prefer this item just for the  passive healing and the gold from the cs. It builds into Tailsman which really great. It provides a speed buff to engage your team or escape. Free extra Sivir ult anyone? The end build ends up giving you a raptor's cloak with the Talisman. This is convenient if you stick to lanes for fights.

Spellthief's Edge

This if for those who play more aggressive. (Trust me, this is pretty strong with her Q) The poke game is real with this item, and the building into Frost Queen's makes this item quite great. The slow and vision is great for the late game when you lack in enough vision (because all your wards died and your team starts yelling at you for vision ;-;). The Frost Queen's isn't really as useful so you can just go for Eye of the Watchers to give more early utility and an extra item.

Early Buys

2049.png 3096.png 1001.png 2043.png or 3098.png

ALWAYS BUY YOUR DAM SIGHTSTONE.

I don't know how much people don't realize that vision is more important than your upgraded support item. Getting boots and a vision ward is a staple.

Vision wards are the best and always have one out on the map.

Core Items

2045.png 3069.png 3158.png + 3190.png / 3110.png

The CDR from 2045.png and 3158.png is great for Soraka. More heals, more Qs.

3190.png Is a great item for shields, magic resist, and another passive healing. The tankiness given to Soraka by this item is amazing. Also, the shield is buffed cause of Windspeaker's.
3110.png Is great when their AD is strong, and especially when they are auto reliant like 67.png22.png222.png, or 29.png.

Situational

3504.png

Ardent's Censer

Ardent's is really, really situational. Never rush this item unless your team is really AA reliant. Buying it later for when you're winning is better. Not suggested with a 202.png, or 236.png. They utilize the buff too well in my personal opinion.

3050.png

Zeke's Harbringer

Zeke's is based on the carry's ability. Never try to rush it, never use it with some random ADC kid. I don't buy it often, and usually buy it as a 6th item. Don't really buy it when your ADC or the carry has 3087.png. It lessens the utility of charging up that bonus crit when they have a definite crit like 202.png's 4th shot.

3222.png

Mikael's Crucible

Lovely item to have if the enemy has too much cc to handle, like 89.png stuns or 1.png stuns.

3009.png / 3117.png

Swiftness / Mobility Boots

These boots are useful for the mobility if you find it necessary to gain more since there is a mobility buff with Talisman.

3027.png / 3116.png

ROA / Rylai's

This is for when you need that AP but some health along with it. Not suggested for early unless you know you can live long enough.

3089.png / 3041.png

Rabadon's / Mejai's

Honestly, don't. It's funny for a last item if you are really strong, but don't do it. Mejai's is something you can take if you are doing really well, and you know they can't come back.

VS

Alistar

Medium

Versing against an Alistar is difficult to put the proper pressure against from his Headbutt/Pulverise combo.

You can outdo him by sustaining over him from his poke and sit with a higher range ADC like 18.png22.png, or 202.png.

VS

Annie

Medium

Annie has lane pressure, just like you, but more dangerous. Most Annies like to take their ignite down bot so it is difficult to even bother messing with them without them engaging everytime you go for the poke. Play safe during the game and just do the pacifist route against them and win over the late game.

VS

Ashe

Medium

Ashe is one of those weird lanes to verse against. You have to be able to maneuver around the enemy support mainly for her. She's pretty easy to lane against as long as you stay out of her ult and her support, cause together, they hurt. Careful about her ult, it deals a bit but the stun in annoying as a Soraka. It is global so don't get caught out!

VS

Bard

Easy

Look! It's your fellow celestial buddy, well you were celestial...

This lane is decently moderate, but don't doubt the power behind the cuddly guy. His autos with his passive hurt so just go easy in this lane. You can deal more sustain than he ever could so just try to out heal his poke onto your ADC.

VS

Blitzcrank

Easy

Simple case in this matchup, just dodge his rocketgrab.png whenever you can. Personally I can't verse against this lane easily from the easy pressure that blitz can do with his Q alone. Memorize his Q cooldown and you know when you can apply pressure and when you can't. Put as much pressure in the lane as you can when he has it down.

VS

Brand

Hard

This is difficult to lane against from his massive damage burst, basically any Soraka's weakness. Try to play around his skillshots and stay away from other units when he ults. Stay safe and you can outplay him better late.

The damage from Brand will result in a harsh lane with the new cooldown on Soraka's W - Astral infusion. Be sure that both you and your ADC avoid his skillshots at all costs and don't stick too close when he casts R - Pyroclasm.

VS

Braum

Hard

The lockdown from Braum is insane. When you play against a Braum it is difficult. Stay away from him and dodge Qs, you'll live out (possibly) long enough to save everyone and let them kill off everyone else.

VS

Caitlyn

Medium

Caitlyn is a similar case to Ashe. Be careful around bushes and make sure to watch on the location of the traps and Cait to see her animations for it. Play safe and just slowly poke her down. (You got dis! :D)

VS

Corki

Medium

Oh man do I hate laning against Corki. Corki is a special case of an ADC. Make sure to just poke him down but don't get forceful with lane. Unless the enemy has a weaker kind of support then try to put as much poke as you can. Stay wary when he gets level 6, when he does, stick with your ADC and just heal.

VS

Draven

Easy

Draven is the real threat to oneself, because the annoying damage. When he Qs make sure to poke him down with your starcall.png to shut him down a little. No free gold stacking for you! Make sure not to be too open to anything, Draven is really a strong one, especially with that global ult.

VS

Ezreal

Medium

I don't really know how to explain how to verse against an Ezreal. It's difficult but easy at the same time? His attacks are mainly his spells so be wary when he finally gets a sheen or gauntlet. He will hurt and he will hurt bad. Play careful around him and try to get his support out of the way first, he's weaker without one, but still able to fight on his own. Stay out of Q, stay away from the global ult. Expect you will be ulted everytime you're low and he's alive. Sit in the most unexpected places. Bait his E early when you get some ganks!

VS

Graves

Medium

Similar case to Ezreal, hard to explain. His Q hurts, so always be wary of that. His ult, just stay far away when you're low and he is 6. Play safe, but not too safe. He can be shut down easier early game so bait out his E when you get ganks.

VS

Janna

Medium

This lane is pure skill based. Play as you normally would, but poke the Janna down (or her ADC depending which one it is) so you can get her mana low. You have more aggression than she does so utilize it the best you can early.

VS

Jhin

Hard

This one is a real hard one to lane against. He may have limited mobility, but any good Jhin can dodge you. His damage and range are just really OP. Sit back in lane and poke when you get the opening (his reload w/o speed boost). Don't go aggressive too much, but catch him when he has low mana or has his cooldowns up. Earlier is better so you can catch him.

VS

Jinx

Medium

Range, DPS, Damage, this little psycho has it all. Make sure to kill the little squishy early to shut her down. Not too agressive depending on the support. Outsustain her as much as you can, and keep it even.

VS

Kalista

Easy

Gonna tell you now, hate Kalista. Her passive makes her jump around so much you can't land anything. When you try to poke her, make sure the lane on your side is not there and not too close when you attack her. If you don't you can't trade efficiently. Careful about the amount of spears you or your ally has so you know when to be careful to ult or not.

VS

Karma

Hard

This is the bane of pretty much all Sorakas. If she focuses you, just gonna say you're dead. Her poke and utility is insane. Be careful on her karmaheavenlywave.png and watch out for the animation for when she uses karmachakra.png. Play real defensive and you may win. The win is dependent on your ADC for this one.

VS

Kennen

Medium

You don't see Kennen ADC a lot, but when you do it's hard. He has the 3 charges on you and then a stun, then his ult is big burst damage. Stay aware of the charges on you and your allies, and play decently passive. Poke him down early cause his energy costs don't take too long but long enough.

VS

Kog'Maw

Medium

This one is tough. You have enough poke to get him out of the game, but not enough range to land the poke from a safe distance. Ask for lots of ganks when he pushes up, and stand real far back when he uses his kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png.

VS

Leona

Easy

Lockdown queen. Sun goddess. And just full engage. You have to play as strong as you can. When she goes for the engage run back and try to drag her under your tower for an advantage. You sustain better so poke em down and sit back.

VS

Lucian

Medium

This one is an even lane, and highly dependent on the ADC's skills. Care about his poke and his double shot passive. Bait his lucianE.png for ganks, and poke him down. You have just enough to be able to trade with a Lucian.

VS

Lulu

Medium

Decent laner to verse against. She has range, poke, and utility.

VS

Lux

Hard

There is a small chance to actually verse against a Lux support, but recently I've seen her a bit more into play lately.

The problem with versing against a Lux is her crazy poke. Lux's luxlightbinding.png and luxlightstrikekugel.png make her quite the difficult champion to verse against. Her luxlightbinding.png is able to lock you down for her ADC to come up and lay down serious poke against you. luxlightstrikekugel.png is for the slow and damage so make sure to stay far back from her spells. Lux is skillshot reliant so just try to juke most of her spells and you'll do great. Most people don't know to focus the Soraka so poke when you get openings and makes sure to outsustain her in lane.

VS

Miss Fortune

Easy

This one is probably one of the easy/hard kinda ADCs to matchup against. The only difficulty is the damage output from missfortunepassive.png. It deals a lot when she lands a missfortunericochetshot.png or autos you. Due to the lack of high mobility just try to poke out her missfortuneviciousstrikes.png from getting up. This lane is an easy poke lane depending on her support. Just be wary of her damage and keep her down.

VS

Morgana

Hard

This one is difficult without a number of experience. Her darkbindingmissile.png is a big lockdown that no one likes. You can outsustain this lane, but you have to deal with her massive amount of poke damage from her darkbindingmissile.png tormentedsoil.png combo. You can't lay down cc on certain opponents from her blackshield.png, so just kill out who doesn't have it. Make sure to watch out for her cc and when she walks up, she will use her 4.png soulshackles.png darkbindingmissile.png to lock down you or your ADC. Be careful with this lane and you will do well.

VS

Nami

Hard

It's difficult to versing against the trade master. A good Nami always is able to utilize her namiW.png to trade against you. She holds enough damage and sustain to outdo you quite well. She doesn't have the massive wish.png and 2-3 second astralblessing.png like you do, but she still has namiQ.png namiE.png namiR.png to hold you down and crash down your heal power. Your starcall.png regeneration buff can help you escape out of sticky situations, but it's difficult. It's an easy case of stay away from other champions and dodge her namiQ.png it has a moderately long cooldown so you should be able to to win when you tackle her when she has it down.

VS

Nautilus

Hard

Nautilus is the CC king. It's difficult to fight against him from the amount of utility he has and his R- Depth Charge is difficult to fight against. The heals will be well against this and passive laning will result in safety unless ganked. Just watch out for his Q - Dredge Line because it will catch you out and give him an escape.

VS

Quinn

Medium

She's one of those champions that you can easily underestimate. She may seem low mobility and low damage early, but her potential is crazy. Her damage is enhanced with her passive and her ult grants an easy roaming ability. When she gains her level 6 warn teamates when she goes missing. Best way to outplay this is having a good ADC and avoiding her range.

VS

Sivir

Easy

Sivir is a difficult one to explain. She can be quite easy to out do with her high mana costs, but she is a deadly force. Her W - Ricochet is a harsh ability with the fact it transfers a crit. Her E - Spell Shield can be a difficult situation to deal with since she can regain mana and deny your poke with it.

VS

Sona

Medium

This is dependent really on the enemy Sona. Her Q - Hymn of Valor is annoying to deal with once you try to go for your heal. She has decent utility with her W - Aria of Perseverance to stop you and your ADC from killing her or her ADC. The range of her Q is a problem from the poke you will receive from her. The R - Crescendo is a pain to deal with on the AOE stun. Just sit back and sustain to the best of your ability.

VS

Tahm Kench

Hard

To be honest this is one heck of an annoying support to go against. He has a ranged poke with his Q and the combo with his W and Q will poke you and your ADC down. The W is annoying when your ADC almost kills his ally. His E will prevent most damage and shield against potential damage you do. His R provides great roaming for him and an ally so do worry when he is out of lane for too long with level 6.

VS

Taric

Hard

Good Taric = Dead team

Most I can say is his R and E are the most annoying spells he has. The E provides an easy stun if he gets close enough and his R provides the most annoying invincibility in the game. Be sure to be careful of where he and the ally he places his W on so you can avoid the stun.

VS

Thresh

Hard

This is quite obvious. Hooks, CC, damage oh my. Best way is to sit back and play safe. Avoid getting his by his Q as much as possible. Careful on his empowered auto that is given by his E.
