Summoner Spells Back to Top

Summoners

4.png6.png Flash - Ghost

This is the set of summoners I will take for most matchups. It is especially strong against low mobility champs and champs with predictable kits. Always take flash mid. There are very few champs that I believe can have stronger games without flash (Hecarim, Olaf, etc). Then we add ghost. Ghost not only has an extremely short cooldown, but is essential for proper kiting and chasing. Cross that with a Rylai's 3116.png and you have a control monster on your hands.

4.png3.png Flash - Exhaust

I take exhaust very rarely on Taliyah. I will pick it against champs with strong 1-shot potential. Think Fizz, Leblanc, Zed, old school Katarina.

Other summoners:

4.png1.png
4.png7.png Cleanse, Heal, and Barrier are also good on Taliyah, but I would consider them much more situational.
4.png21.png

4.png14.png Only against Vladimir or Swain. You want the extra defensive summoner.

Masteries Back to Top

I go with an aggressive 12-18-0 mastery page. Starting from Top-Left Down we take:

Sorcery: No explanation necessary.

Fresh Blood: The early damage is relatively strong and Taliyah's auto range is pretty large. Feast and Expose Weakness both are strong. Player's choice.

Natural Talent: More damage. We Like more damage.

Wanderer: Out-of-combat movement speed is good on Taliyah. You roam often on her, and every second counts in a roam.

Secret Stash: The sustain it gives you is awesome.

Merciless: Finishing off kills is a good thing. Managing mana on Taliyah takes a few games to get used to, but isn't too hard after.

Dangerous Game: It will save you way more than you'd expect. Bandit is a little bit of gold, but not enough to be noticeable in your build timings. Greenfather's just isn't viable in the mid lane unless you're Ekko.

Precision: Early game damage boost. 40% cds is enough, take this people.

Stormraider's Surge: see below

Stormraider's or Thunderlords?

I personally run Stormraiders because of it's utility. Taliyah's combo will almost always proc Stormraider's, and it allows her to kite more effectively. Taliyah can be played as a burst mage and take Thunderlords, which gives her much more early kill pressure, but I find the extra movespeed both more beneficial for teamfighting as well as more forgiving in many situations.

taliyahpassive.pngRock Surfing
Taliyah gains movement speed near walls.

taliyahq.pngThreaded Volley
Cost: 50/55/60/65/70 Mana
Range: 1000
Taliyah throws a volley of missiles in a target direction, moving freely as she does. This works the ground below her. If Taliyah casts Threaded Volley on worked ground, she only throws one missile.
Hurls 5 rocks in a direction, dealing 60/80/100/120/140 (+40% Ability Power) magic damage in a small area around the first enemy hit. Subsequent hits on the same unit deal 50% reduced damage. Creates Worked Ground for 0 seconds.Taliyah gains [0]% movement speed on Worked Ground. Casting Threaded Volley on Worked Ground only hurls one rock but refunds 50% of its mana cost.

taliyahwvc.pngSeismic Shove
Cost: 70/80/90/100/110 Mana
Range: 900
Taliyah causes an area of ground to erupt and throws enemies within in a direction of her choosing.
Taliyah targets an area. After a short delay, enemies caught within the area will be pushed and dealt 60/80/100/120/140 (+40% Ability Power) magic damage. You can control the direction enemies will be pushed by clicking and dragging your mouse in a line.

taliyahe.pngUnraveled Earth
Cost: 90/95/100/105/110 Mana
Range: 800
Taliyah creates a slowing minefield that explodes if enemies dash through it or are pushed/pulled through it.
Places a field of dash-sensitive traps that deal 70/90/110/130/150 (+40% Ability Power) magic damage and slow enemies in the area by [0]%. After 4 seconds, the traps explode, dealing damage again.Enemies dashing, being pushed, or being pulled through Unraveled Earth will trigger traps, taking 0 (+0) magic damage from each trap (maximum 4, each hit after the first deals [0]% less damage).

taliyahr.pngWeaver's Wall
Cost: 100 Mana
Range: 3000
Stone Weaver creates a very long wall and then surfs it.
Cast once to create a wall. Recast immediately to ride ahead of the wall. Moving or receiving damage will cause Taliyah to stop.Weaver's Wall lasts for 6/7/8 seconds. Deactivate this spell to break the wall early.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Standard Taliyah start. Honestly no need to go messing with this one.
For when you know the other laner is bronze 5.

Core Items

Almost always get these two early. Rush Lost Chapter, build full Rylai's, finish Morello.
Magic penetration is great on Taliyah. Get full Sorc's Shoes early. Most games that hit 30 minutes require a Void Staff.
Alternate build path. Playing with this one, but lacking early cooldowns on Taliyah doesn't feel great. The extra health, however, does. Play around with this.

Situational Items

Great if you're against high magic damage mid laner.
Buy if the enemy team has not bought mr or has no tanks.
    Buy situationally. Great against assassins.
These items are fun. but highly situational. Protobelt is good to blow up squishies, and GLP is good for some extra slows, but neither feel like they're in a great spot right now. A little lackluster.

Always start with the Doran's Ring unless you know that you are going to stomp the enemy laner. It gives some health and mana and keeps you in lane a good amount of time, especially with the Secret Stash biscuits.

Rylai's is a must on Taliyah. The kiting, chasing, and zone potential of this champ with that item is unmatched. The slow isn't quite as strong post-nerf, but the cost efficiency is still great for what it gives Taliyah.

Morello feels really good on Taliyah. Mana is a bit of an issue, especially in the mid game. By getting Morello as a first or second item, you relieve a major weakness in her kit.

My build path usually looks something like this:

1056.png2003.png3340.png --> 3802.png1001.png --> 3116.png -- >3020.png3165.png --> Void Staff/Liandry's --> Zhonya's --> Defensive Item

Early on, it is viable to grab a Negatron Cloak if you are against AP/Seeker's Armguard against AD, and you can then sit on that until you decide to finish your Abyssal Scepter/Zhonya's.

Do Note that my build will vary depending on the matchups. Against Zed I often rush Zhonya's, and same with Abyssal against Fizz.

About the Author Back to Top

First let me take a moment to talk a little about myself. I have been playing for two full years and have dabbled in every position. My most played champs are Zac, Jhin, Ekko, Azir, and Lee Sin on my main account. Last season I climbed to Plat 3 and I plan on reaching at least high diamond this season. Recently I picked up Taliyah, and boy did I love this champ. She instantly became one of my favorites, and I feel comfortable enough on the champion to make a guide for her. It's also my first guide, so please comment any advice you have as well as any changes you may make to my guide!
