Summoner Spells Back to Top

Standard (All Lane) Summoners:(4.png + 14.png)

(Flash)4.png and (Ignite)14.png  should be pick every game for Top or Mid lane. They offer the most amount of kill pressure and escape for almost any champion in League of Legends; moreover, they also synergize further with Talon's damage and escape kit substantially.

4.png Synergies:
  1. Flash can be utilize with Talon's (Q)talonq.png  to initiate from a distance of 950 range [Flash = 400, Q = 550]. This technique should always be use if a guaranteed kill is in sight as it offers little consequences thereafter because Talon has other escape options readily available to him from his (E)talone.png and (R)talonr.png. For a secondary usage with (Q) talonq.png, Flash can put Talon in range for a Critical burst and follow up Auto-Attack which can catch the opponent off guard and hinder their reaction.
  2. Flash can also be used for a long range escape in conjunction with Talon's (E)talone.png and (R)talonr.png. In a situation where you are unable to reach a wall for escape, Flash will offer a faster and safer blink towards a safer passage; hence, you should always flash towards a usable wall. It is nearly impossible to chase Talon once he (E) talone.pngthrough the first wall as there are many other walls following. Also, note that Flash does not cancel your stealth while in (R)talonr.png so you can escape in any direction undetected.
14.png Synergies:
  1. Ignite is a powerful summoner spell for Talon because of two main reasons. First, the damage can stack with Talon's passive talonpassive.png which can deal immense tick damage after the initial burst. The extra damage will offer a kill secure in many situations. Next, the grievous wound from Ignite reduces healing from all source by 40% so champions with innate regeneration in their kit are less likely to survive Talon's burst damage.

New Runes Back to Top

Primary Keystone: Electrocute (Electrocute.png?width=64)

  • (Electrocute.png?width=32) Electrocute provides the most damage early game with excellent scaling (50% Bonus AD). Talon's early item build consist of heavy AD so there is perfect synergy for maximum damage. The Cooldown is marginally high early game (50 Seconds) but decrease base on level (25 Seconds), which is great because Talon's combo can activate it with ease each time. Talon's level 2 kill potential increase drastically with this Rune, it is the most efficient Rune for damage.
  •  (Predator.png?width=32) Predator can only be activated with Boots; hence, it is essentially useless for laning phase until you purchase the Boots. Though it gives a surge of Movement Speed and damage for roaming, it's not a necessary Rune for Talon as he is already an adept roamer due to his natural kit. Predator is more of a luxury Rune and not as efficient as Electrocute for Talon.
  • (Dark%20Harvest.png?width=32)Dark Harvest is a scaling Rune that provides more damage late game but sub par in comparison to Electrocute or Predator early game. The scaling time to overtake Electrocute's damage is very inconsistent even if you're snowballing. In truth, Talon's early game is his strongest asset so Runes that scales doesn't fit into his advantage.

Domination: Slots

  1. (Sudden%20Impact.png?width=32) Sudden Impact works extremely well with Talon's combo as it provides (10 lethality) every time Talon uses Q. This rune further enhances Talon's kill potential at level 2 as it is very difficult for any champion to get Armor early.
  2. (Eyeball%20Collection.png?width=32) Eyeball Collection is a scaling rune but a very strong rune when snowballing. It is the only rune in this slot that provides any semblance of damage and the bonus AD will be very strong for Talon at 20 stacks. Typically, you would want to get full stack from 15-20 minutes.
  3. (Relentless%20Hunter.png?width=32) Relentless Hunter provides bonus Movement Speed for each unique kill. This rune will assist in roaming tremendously the more stacks you get. Essentially, you won't have to buy Mobility Boots anymore as this Rune will cover the lack of  Movement Speed. The utility of this rune fits perfectly with Talon's gameplay.

Secondary Runes: Sorcery

  1. (The%20Ultimate%20Hat.png?width=32) The Ultimate Hat independently reduce Ultimate cooldowns stacking up to 15%. This rune is extremely strong on Talon due to the fact that Talon already has low cooldown on his ultimate and also builds core items that provides cooldowns. The effect is very potent early game but scales off later into the game. That being said, it will allow Talon to have much less downtime on his Ultimate which will allow for more roaming plays throughout the Mid game.
  2. (Absolute%20Focus.png?width=32) Absolute Focus works really well with Assassins due to the fact that you will always engage a fight with more than 70% health. The  bonus AD scales extremely well with Talon's kit and it is a consistent Rune that will always provide the AD for Talon's combo.
  3. (Nullifying%20Orb.png?width=32) Nullifying Orb is decent against AP champions but the shield is quite marginal and it seldom changes the outcome of the trade/fight. However, if you get this Rune while building a Hexdrinker into a heavy AP team comp, then this could be a great asset as it will mitigate an immense amount of Magic damage.
  4. (Celerity.png?width=32) Celerity scales off Movement Speed which is great for Talon due to his high mobility. The bonus AD will provide decent damage and it scales quite well into the late game. Also, it's great against range matchups in lane, allowing you to walk out their attack range.
  5. (Scorch.png?width=32) Scorch works wonders in the Mid lane for poking Range Champions. It does however, require you to expend a lot of Mana which takes away the potency of this Rune. It doesn't scale that well into the Late game but very effective early. Since it doesn't provide any bonus AD, it doesn't scale with Talon's kit.
  6. (Transcendence.png?width=32) Transcendence provides a bonus 10% Cooldown reduction at level 10 and converts excess Cooldown reduction into bonus AD. It may seem like a great Rune for Talon but is doesn't mesh well with Talon's build. Talon's full build gives a perfect 40% CD so this rune will only provide 12 Bonus AD with a full build Talon. This rune is too slow for the early game and takes away a slot for other runes that can provide Talon with more early game damage.
  7. (Gathering%20Storm.png?width=32) Gathering Storm doesn't provide any noticeable benefit until 20 minutes. Hence, Talon's early game will be hinder without any benefit from this Rune. Furthermore, Talon is not that effective in the late game; hence, it is counter intuitive to get a scaling Rune for an early game champion.

Secondary Runes: Precision

  1. (Triumph.png?width=32) Triumph allows for aggressive and risky plays throughout the game, especially tower diving. The missing health regen is very clutch but surprisingly strong and can save you in many situations. It serves as a good insurance for going all in. In addition, the 25 bonus gold per kill stacks up if you are snowballing and can potentially let you finish your items a bit faster.
  2. (Coup%20De%20Grace.png?width=32) Coup de Grace provides the essential damage to finish a target with Talon's combo. It is a very consistent Rune that doesn't scale off at any point in the game. The bonus AD given for 10 seconds per champion kill is not significant and very niche for Talon in a 1v1; however, in team fights it does have benefits.

Talon's Skill Order Priorities:

1. Shadow Assault talonr.png
  • Talon's Ultimate can hit twice, one outgoing and another when the blades converge, which offers two stacks of wound for his passive: (Blade's End)talonpassive.png but Talon's combo only require one stack from the Ultimate because the first hit is instant but there's a 0.75 seconds delay on the second hit so the opponent can escape before you get the second stack. Shadow Assault is a very versatile ability that allows Talon to initiate or escape; furthermore, the low innate cooldown combined with 40% Cooldown Reduction from items will reduce the cooldown to 36 seconds at level 16. This is arguably what makes Talon an adept assassin in the late game. This skill should be level up whenever possible at level 6, Level 11, and Level 16.
2. Rake talonw.png
  • Talon's (W) is his best wave clear and strongest ability if both hits land. This ability is the core of all of Talon's Combos and lane pressure. At level 9, Talon can kill the Range Minions with just his (W)talonw.png. With such quick wave clear, Talon has many opportunities throughout the game to roam and not be confined to his lane like many other Assassins. This ability should be skilled at level 1 and whenever possible afterward.
3. Noxian Diplomacy talonq.png
  • Talon's (Q) offers marginal burst damage and healing on killing blows. This ability can be use to initiate or end a combo and is Talon's best gap close skill. It can be cast at 550 Range for the base damage or 170 Range for a guaranteed critical burst of 1.5x damage; furthermore, it is an Auto Attack reset and provides a stack of wound. Additionally, it's great for sustaining in lane as it heals and refunds 50% of the cooldown if a minion is killed by it (even if the minion dies before the animation finish and Talon doesn't get the killing blow, he will receive health regen). This skill can travel a distance of 950 Range if cast along with Flash4.png so use it to secure a kill whenever possible. This ability should be skilled at level 2 and maxed after Rake.
4. Assassin's Path talone.png
  • Talon's (E) does not offer any damage or any interaction with enemy champions. Instead, by forgoing damage, this ability provides the best utility in the game in my opinion. Without this ability, Talon cannot roam efficiently or from any surprise angles. This ability makes Talon's movement impossible to predict and allows him free reign of the map to assassinate anyone. There is a base cooldown of 160 seconds for each wall after usage and decrease to 60 seconds at Rank 5 and a short cooldown of 2 seconds when jumping from wall to wall; the cooldown can be reduce by Cooldown Reduction. This ability should be skilled last as it doesn't provide any damage.

Optimal Skill Level: (First 3 Levels)

  • Level 1 - (W)talonw.png
  • Level 2 - (Q)talonq.png
  • Level 3 - (E)talone.png
This skill order offers Talon the most versatility in terms of damage and escape. Generally, enemy Junglers will gank you post level 3 (3:00 minutes). Talon's (E)talone.png Should always be skilled when the lane is pushed past the halfway mark which occurs naturally due to Talon's oppressive nature in the lane. With the acquisition of Talon's (E)talone.png at level 3, it makes it very difficult for the enemy to complete a gank as you also have (Flash)4.png for extra mobility.

Maximum Damage Skill Level: (First 3 Levels)

  • Level 1 - (W)talonw.png
  • Level 2 - (Q)talonq.png
  • Level 3 - (W)talonw.png
This will offer Talon the maximum amount of damage. The situation in which this setup should be pick is when the lane if pushing against you past the halfway point or if the enemy Jungler is unlikely to gank. However, do not use this setup to push the minion wave; it makes Talon very vulnerable to ganks.

Cheese Skill Level: (First 3 Levels)

  • Level 1 - (W)talonw.png
  • Level 2 - (Q)talonq.png
  • Level 3 - (Q)talonq.png
This should be the skill order to secure a kill at level 3. If Talon is able to get an opponent low but not force a recall, there is a potential for a Flash4.png and (Q)talonq.png combo kill secure. Combined with Ignite14.png and Thunderlord, it can potentially catch your opponent off guard if they are already low health. This setup is very risky if a kill is not obtained as you will be gank without Flash4.png or (E)talone.png for escape.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

Situational Items

Starting Items: 1036.png2031.png or 2033.png

  • Talon should start with Longsword and Refillable Potion because Longsword can build into any of Talon's items and in most situation and it provides higher kill pressure. You will either get first blood or recall before expending two potions; hence Refillable Potion is more cost efficient in the long run.
  • Buy Corrupting Potion against matchups that are difficult to kill. This will provide you with sufficient mana resource to constantly push the lane and have enough mana to roam.

First Recall Buy: 3077.png2055.png

  • If you manage to get a kill in lane at level 2 or level 3, you should push in the wave and recall to buy a Tiamat for the early game damage spike and immense waveclear. Next, pick up a Control Ward if you can afford it because it lasts forever unless Enemy destroys it so it will indefinitely stop a gank and keep your lane snowballing.

Second Recall Buy: 3134.png3133.png1001.png

  • Buy the components towards Duskblade whenever possible and pick up Boots if you have 300Gold so you can roam more frequently and quickly.

First Core Items:3147.png3047.png3111.png

  • Duskblade is extremely efficient for damage as a first core item. It provides extra damage that can be proc by auto attacking a target - synergizes perfectly with any of Talon's combos. Additionally, it provides 10% Cooldown Reduction, which is crucial for shorter Ultimate timers. The "Blackout" passive will also allow you to clear wards as you roam. This item provides essential elements for playing an assassin; hence, It should be purchased every game.
  • As for boots, you should buy them according to the game environment. If they have heavy AD champs then go for Ninja Tabi or purchase a Mercury's Tread to mitigate heavy crowd control.

Full Damage Items:3142.png 3071.png

  • Get Ghostblade for the extra damage, lethality, and movement speed. Next, buy The Black Cleaver if the game hasn't ended yet for additional mobility, survivability, armor shred, and bonus 20% Cooldown Reduction. Once The Black Cleaver is purchased, most games will end and if not, then Talon's Ultimate will allow him to assassinate a target every 36 Seconds with 40% Cooldown Reduction at level 16.

End Game Items: 3026.png3036.png3033.png

  • Purchase a Guardian Angel for Armor and Magic Resistant so Talon can make more aggressive plays with less chance of death. Next, get a Lord Dominik's Regards if there are Tanks with Health and Armor otherwise, get a Mortal Reminder if opponents are all squishy.

Situational Item: 3814.png

  • Edge of Night is a potent item on assassins; hence Talon benefits greatly from this item as well because it provides the core essential elements: Lethality, Movement Speed, and most importantly a Spell Shield. This item should be purchased against a team with heavy frontal Crowd Control so Talon can effectively assassinate them. These are the champions that Edge of Night is effective against: 103.png34.png1.png22.png143.png63.png90.png105.png99.png25.png134.png4.png110.png

VS

Aatrox

Medium

Matchup:

  • Aatrox excels at long skirmish due to his consistent damage and sustain with his (W)aatroxw.png so Talon will lose the 1v1 if the fight last more than 3 seconds.
  • He also has a passive aatroxpassive.png that revives him with 30% maximum health. His passive also gives him 25% increase AD and 30-60% AS when it is fully charged. Hence, it is very dangerous to engage on Aatrox for trades.
  • Talon has burst damage but trading with Aatrox is very unfavorable in many situations because he can easily retaliate with more damage.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Aatrox: 2-5 (Impossible to solo kill after level 6)
  • You can run 6362.png or 6361.png against Aatrox depending on your play style. Thunderlord's Decree will allow for a higher burst potential while Stormraiders Surge allows for safer escape.
  • Aatrox with Ignite 14.png is much more deadly than 12.png so be very cautious going in for trades.
  • Start 1054.png is you are unfamiliar with the match-up. It will allow for a safer laning phase and sustain on unfavorable trades.
  • Aatrox's passiveaatroxpassive.png is insanely strong and allows him to win any duel as it gives bonus AD and AS when fully charged. Good Aatrox players will manage their passive gauge around 60-80% so don't get baited to go in for trades because they can fully charge it by landing 1-2 spells.
  • Aatrox's (Q)aatroxq.png is extremely effective for retaliating against Talon's trades so always be mindful and try to dodge it at all cost. You can outplay Aatrox's (Q)aatroxq.png with Talon's (Q)talonq.png if you time it exactly when Aatrox ascend with his (Q)aatroxq.png. Essentially, you just juke it by trading places with him.
  • His (W)aatroxw.png can heal him or provides extra damage every 3rd hit. He can use it in conjunction with his (Q)aatroxq.png to be a deadly combo. Essentially, he will charge 2 prior hits by using his (W)aatroxw.png on minions then (Q)aatroxq.png on you to get the knock-up then land the 3rd hit for immense damage. Be very careful and observe when he toggle his (W)aatroxw.png between heal or damage.
  • Don't worry too much about Aatrox's (E)aatroxe.png as he will mostly use this to farm minions in the early laning phase. Just try to dodge it from afar as the angle is much thinner. It does slow but if you have 6361.png then you will be fine.
  • Aatrox's (R)aatroxr.png is his most powerful spell due to the myriad of benefits it provides. It will almost always fully charge his passiveaatroxpassive.png (giving him the AD and AS buff) then it also increase his range to 375 which allows him to kite and makes Talon's escape much harder. Furthermore, it grants him more AS from the (R)aatroxr.png which stacks with his passive. It is impossible to duel Aatrox unless you instantly burst him. I would advise to not take the risk unless you have backup with crowd control.
  • Aatrox's scaling is great for 1v1 duels but his team fighting is not great due to crowd control easily stopping him in his tracks. Don't worry about beating him in lane but look to roam more and get your team ahead.

VS

Ahri

Medium

Matchup:

  • Ahri has front Crowd Control with her (E)ahriseduce.png which makes it difficult for Talon to gap close on her. Also, she can dodge Talon's talonw.png with her (R)ahritumble.png so you will miss out on wound stacks if you play carelessly and potentially lose trades.
  • Her early game damage is fairly weak but she's very strong at poking due to the range advantage against Talon.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Ahri: level 2-5 (Difficult after level 6)
  • You can run 6362.png or 6361.png against Ahri. Thunderlord a for higher kill pressure or Stormraiders to dodge her skill shots easier.
  • Try to get 1001.png early so you can dodge her (E)ahriseduce.png
  • Surprise engage by jumping through walls so Ahri has less chance to react
  • Bait out her (E)ahriseduce.png and (R)ahritumble.png before fully committing to a kill
  • Use your (R)talonr.png to dodge her (E)ahriseduce.png when engaging for a sure kill
  • Dodge in 90 Decree angel to dodge her (Q)ahriorbofdeception.png and (E)ahriseduce.png
  • During lane, stand on the side of the minion instead of behind them so she cannot use her (Q)ahriorbofdeception.png to hit you and the minions.
  • Ahri is susceptible to a 4.png + instant combo because of her squishy nature and is very hard to react to this combo in general. Make sure she is killable when you do this.

VS

Camille

Hard

Matchup:

  • Camille is very strong in drawn out skirmishes because her 2nd (Q)camilleq.png does true damage. Luckily Talon can easily win trades with heavy burst combos before Camille can even retaliate.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Camille: Level 2-6
  • Bait out Camille's passive camillepassive.png (1.5seconds duration) before returning damage
  • Initiate with (Q)talonq.png and (W)talonw.png when Camille's passive camillepassive.png and (Q)camilleq.png is on cooldown.
  • Don't stand next to a huge minion wave because she can use her (W)camillew.png for huge health regen.
  • Camille's (E)camillee.png is a dash, so use (W)talonw.png when she attempts to stun you to get two wound stacks easily and combo her afterward.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

Matchup:

  • Cho'Gath

VS

Corki

Medium

Matchup:

  • Corki will always run Exhaust3.png which means you cannot 1v1 him after he gets Trinity Force3078.png. But before Corki receive his power spike, Talon is very strong against him in lane and can often push quicker than Corki.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Corki: Level 2-6
  • At level 1, push the lane into the tower as fast as possible by landing (W)talonw.png on all 6 minions (and Corki if possible).
  • Bait out Corki's (E)ggun.png before initiating
  • Initiate with (Q)talonq.png first then (W)talonw.png to force Corki's (W)carpetbomb.png(cost 100 Mana)
  • Exhaust's 3.png Duration (2.5 seconds) is the same as Talon's (R)talonr.png so you can wait it out in the stealth out before finishing a combo for full damage
  • At some point, Corki will play safe so just clear the wave and roam as much as possible

VS

Darius

Medium

Matchup:

  • Darius is extremely strong in long skirmishes due to his passivedariuspassive.png. However, Talon excels at short bursty fights so Darius will almost have no chance of winning a trade.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Darius: Level 2-5 (Difficult after level 6)
  • Run 6361.png  gainst Darius so you can trade and run away safely.
  • The most effective way to dodge Darius's (Q)dariuscleave.png is to run closer to him rather than away from him
  • Initiate the Trade Combo before attempting to trade with Darius
  • Just do a combo and leave; do not give Darius more than 3 stacks on his passive
  • Darius is killable from level 1 to level 5 but gets increasing difficult afterward
  • Bait out his (Q)dariuscleave.png frequently by micro-stepping towards him and back just at the edge of the circumference

VS

Ekko

Easy

Matchup:

  • Ekko possess a passiveekkopassive.png very similar to Talon's passivetalonpassive.png but Talon actually does more damage than Ekko in a trade. Ekko's specialty is that he can initiate with his (W)ekkow.png which gives him a shield and a stun, but it can be easily dodged in most scenarios.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Ekko: Level 2-5 (Tricky after level 6)
  • Most Ekko uses (Q)ekkoq.png to farm, so wait it out before initiating
  • Ekko is a melee Champion so initiate the Trade Combo when he goes for last hits
  • Ekko's (E)ekkoe.png is a dash, so throw out a (W)talonw.png as soon as you see him dashing towards you, so you can easily land both hits.
  • Ekko's (R)ekkor.png can remove Talon's passivetalonpassive.png damage but you should always finish a combo and force Ekko to ult

VS

Fiora

Medium

Matchup:

  • Fiora is extremely good at mitigating Talon's passivetalonpassive.png with her (W)fioraw.png so this matchup will require many predictions and mind games. Luckily Talon has the upper hand because he can choose to finish a combo before or after Fiora's (W)fioraw.png

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Fiora: Level 2-5 (Risky after level 6)
  • Running off screen will remove Fiora's passivefiorapassive.png
  • Point the direction of Fiora's passivefiorapassive.png away from her to make it difficult for her to proc it
  • Fiora's (Q)fioraq.png is a dash, so use (W)talonw.png to predict her destination for an easy Trade Combo
  • When committing for a kill, wait out Fiora's (W)fioraw.png before finishing a combo or using Ignite14.png
  • Do not fight Fiora without a decent Health advantage, She will heal up quickly with her (R)fiorar.png if you cannot burst her down fast enough

VS

Fizz

Medium

Matchup:

  • Fizz is a very tricky champion to play against because he can dodge Talon's (W)talonw.png with his (E)fizze.png. Furthermore, Fizz can win out on trades very easily if you cannot finish a Combo on him. Fizz's (R)fizzr.png also grants vision on stealth targets; hence, completely nullify Talon's (R)talonr.png

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Fizz: Level 2-5 ((Difficult after level 6)
  • Fizz is a Melee champion with huge mana cost on his (W)fizze.png so bait it out by using (W)talonw.png to poke
  • Do not initiate on a Fizz without landing 2nd hit of (W)talonw.png or you will lose the trade
  • Always Flash4.png Fizz's (R)fizzr.png or you will most likely die
  • Fizz requires 2 seconds to maximize his damage on (W)fizzw.png so just finish a combo and retreat
  • Purchase a Hexdrinker3155.png for lane if it is difficult; it helps immensely

VS

Galio

Easy

Matchup:

  • Galio is a bruiser tank that excels at dealing with mate and burst damage.
  • His scaling is very good and has a strong laning phase due to his potential to waveclear.
  • Talon is stronger in the early game so Galio cannot trade and can only poke with his (Q)galioq.png

Strategies:

  • Optimal level to kill Galio: level 2-6
  • You can run either 6362.png or 6361.png against Galio. Thunderlord for more kill pressure and trades. Stormraiders for dodging his skill shots easier.
  • Galio's passive from his (W)galiow.png gives a shield against magic damage; hence, Talon is unaffected by it since Talon does 100% physical damage.
  • Every 8 seconds, Galio receives an empowered AoE auto attack (cooldown is reduce by 4 seconds whenever he lands a spell) so don't stand close to your minions when he is walking up to farm.
  • His (Q)galioq.png is very strong at waveclear and poking so utilize the brush for protection.
  • His (W)galiow.png gives damage reduction and it taunts. However, it is fine to trade into it because it has a very long cooldown.
  • His (E)galioe.png is a knock up skill shot that can be dodge if you walk in a 90 degree angle as he starts to cast it.
  • His (R)galior.png is useless in lane but can potentially negate your roams.
  • His waveclear is very strong so your roam time is cut short. Be very careful to not roam for long as you will indefinitely miss a lot of CS against Galio.

VS

Gangplank

Easy

Matchup:

  • Gankplank requires (E)gangplanke.png setup to maximize his damage so it is very effective against Melee champions like Talon; however, it takes Gankplank very long to scale to do enough damage to kill Talon. Talon can easily kill Gankplank in a full out battle with ease--provided you get off a full Combo.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Gankplank: Level 2-6
  • Get Exhaust3.png if you are unfamiliar with the matchup; it is very effective against Gankplank
  • At level 1, utilize the brushes to avoid Gankplanks' (Q)gangplankqwrapper.png poke
  • Do not engage Gankplank if he has his passivegangplankpassive.png up
  • (Q)talonq.png to a minion close by and kill Gankplank's (E)gangplanke.png; however, do not attempt this often as he will predict it and punish you.
  • Bait out Gankplank's (E)gangplanke.png by walking forward and back
  • Ignite14.png reduces Gankplank's (W)gangplankw.png Healing by 40%
  • It is ideal to initiate on Gankplank with a Leap Combo as Talon does more damage than Gankplank in general

VS

Garen

Medium

Matchup:

  • Garen is good at drawn out fights; hence, Talon's burst will naturally have the advantage. Garen's only advantage is a surprise (Q)garenq.png but that can be easily predicted and punished.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Garen: Level 2-6
  • Use (W)talonw.png when Garen runs toward you with (Q)garenq.png then retaliate with a Trade Combo
  • Garen is Melee, so Talon can easily poke with (W)talonw.png
  • Garen's (W)garenw.png can mitigate Talon's burst but it has a short duration (1.5 seconds at Rank 1 and 3.5 Seconds at Rank 5)
  • Don't fight Garen for long, just do a Trade combo and retreat
  • Poke Garen with (W)talonw.png frequently so he cannot regen with his passivegarenpassive.png
  • Garen cannot cast his (R)garenr.png if you are in stealth. So use (R)talonr.png if you are about to die and escape

VS

Gnar

Medium

Matchup:

  • Gnar has the range advantage against Talon in lane but he cannot out damage Talon. Most Gnar will run Teleport12.png so they automatically loses out some kill pressure in lane. Gnar's wave clear is not great so pushing the lane against him will make his range advantage obsolete.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Gnar: Level 2-6
  • Run 6362.png for early kill pressure and trades or 6361.png to run from his aggressive auto attacks.
  • Utilize the brush against Gnar to avoid his early poke
  • Avoid Gnar's (Q)gnarq.png by standing behind minions whenever possible
  • Initiate on Gnar with a Leap Combo from the brush whenever he uses his (Q)gnarq.png to farm in order to force him to use his (E)gnare.png
  • At some point, Gnar will become tanky so just roam and do not expend too much effort dealing with him in lane
  • Wait out Gnar's passivegnarpassive.png transformation whenever possible
  • If a Gnar plays aggressively against you, do not run. Just retaliate with a Trade Combo. If you run, you will lose the trade.

VS

Illaoi

Medium

Matchup:

  • Illaoi doesn't have any burst damage pre level 6 and most of her skills can easily be dodge in lane. Since she's also a Melee Champion, Talon has no problem setting up easy combo on her when she goes for CS. Her only advantage is her (R)illaoir.png which does an enormous amount of damage if you're not careful.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Illaoi: Level 2-6
  • Illaoi will almost start (Q)illaoiq.png at level 1 so make sure to dodge them when you see the animation (it's quite slow)
  • Illaoi's (E)illaoie.png is a skill shot so stay behind minions or in brushes to avoid it
  • Spam (W)talonw.png frequently and setup Trade Combos against her. It is very hard for her to retaliate without her (R)illaoir.png
  • It is ok to initiate with a Leap Combo; however, be sure to side step her (E)illaoie.png and (Q)illaoiq.png before setting up a combo.
  • Use the Movement Speed from (R)talonr.png to avoid Illaoi's (R)illaoir.png when in danger
  • Illaoi doesn't have much reliable damage besides her (R)illaoir.png so do not be afraid of her if it's on Cooldown.

VS

Irelia

Medium

Matchup:

  • Irelia is a very weak champion in the early levels. Talon can beat her easily in a 1v1 from level 1 to level 6. However, beware that Irelia will eventually out trade you due to her (E)ireliaequilibriumstrike.png stun, which prevents you from returning damage and her (R)ireliatranscendentblades.png Health Regen will heal back the damage from Talon's burst.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Irelia: Level 2-6 (Harder after level 6 without Ignite)
  • Play aggressively in the early levels before Irelia gets Ninja Tabi3047.png or Phage3044.png
  • Most Irelia will run TP and just farm, meaning this will become like a Tank matchup, so simply push the lane and roam Mid or Bot lane.
  • Irelia's wave clear is very poor throughout the game, so abuse it and find resources elsewhere on the map. Do not expend too much effort dealing with a passive Irelia player.
  • Once Irelia becomes strong, do not stand next to a low health minion. She will (Q)ireliagatotsu.png and instantly (E)ireliaequilibriumstrike.png while resetting her (Q)ireliagatotsu.png. Although if you can predict it, you can use a premature (W)talonw.png and potentially set up a combo.

VS

Jarvan IV

Easy

Matchup:

  • Jarvan IV relies heavily on his (E)jarvanivdemacianstandard.png and (Q)jarvanivdragonstrike.png combo to do damage; missing them will result in a lost trade. Most Jarvan will run Teleport12.png so Talon will have more kill pressure with Ignite14.png. Jarvan IV's early laning phase is mostly (Q)jarvanivdragonstrike.png poke and utilizing his 175 auto attack range to proc his passivejarvanivpassive.png.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Jarven IV: Level 2-6
  • Utilize the brush control early to avoid Jarvan IV's (Q)jarvanivdragonstrike.png and passivejarvanivpassive.png
  • Dodge Jarvan IV's (E)jarvanivdemacianstandard.png and (Q)jarvanivdragonstrike.png combo by side stepping in a 90-degree angle
  • You can use (E)talone.png on Jarvan IV's (R)jarvanivcataclysm.png
  • Set up Trade Combos on him when he goes for CS. It makes it very difficult for him to retaliate.
  • Jarvan IV's auto attack range is 175 while Talon is 150, so he will always hit you first.

VS

Jax

Medium

Matchup:

  • Jax is designed to be a counter to champions that rely heavily on auto attacking due to his (E)jaxcounterstrike.png being able to block all incoming auto attacks for 2 seconds.
  • He scales extremely well in the late game with great split pushing prowess and team fight pessure.
  • He is, however, vulnerable and relatively weak in the early game without his (R)jaxrelentlessassault.png so Talon can easily abuse him.

Strategies:

  • Optimal level to kill Jax: level 2-5 (fairly difficult after level 6)
  • Run 6362.png to further abuse Jax in the laning phase.
  • Jax's (W)jaxempowertwo.png gives him an extra 50 range so he will be able to always hit you first when you walk up for an auto attack. Additionally, it is an auto attack reset.
  • Jax's passive jaxpassive.png provides him attack speed stacking up every time he auto attacks an enemy so *Do Not* fight him when it is stacked. The duration doesn't last long as long as he stop hitting something and the stacks also decreases gradually.
  • His (Ejaxcounterstrike.png ignores all auto attacks so Talon cannot get his passive off easily; however, it has a 16 seconds cooldown at rank 1 so Jax cannot spam it. Go in for trades whenever it is down.
  • Jax's (R)jaxrelentlessassault.png gives bonus damage every 3rd auto attack and it gives immense armor and magic resist whenever he activates it so killing him is much harder. Try to escape through a wall and return for the kill after you baited it out.
  • When Jax is level 6 onwards, he prepares 2 auto attacks and then jumps on his target with his (Q)jaxleapstrike.png to proc a 3rd empowered auto attack in conjunction with his (R) jaxrelentlessassault.png and (W)jaxempowertwo.png for a huge burst damage. Be extremely cautious as this is the only way Jax can catch you off guard and potentially kill you.
  • When Jax runs towards you with his (E)jaxcounterstrike.png, simply throw out your (W)talonw.png and get 2 stacks of wound on him. After the stun ends from Jax's (E)jaxcounterstrike.png, return damage by using your (Q)talonq.png and proc your passive with an auto attack.
  • Treat Jax as a tank if he rushes a 3047.png as his first item. Roam and get kills mid because Jax's waveclear is poor in general.

VS

Jayce

Medium

Matchup:

  • Jayce is very strong in lane because he has the Range advantage against Talon. However, Talon can poke Jayce and push the lane at the same time with (W)talonw.png. Jayce can actually out trade Talon due to his quick and heavy burst damage from long range so there is very little opportunity for Talon to effectively trade against him.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Jayce: Level 2-6
  • Utilize the brushes to avoid Jayce's early poke whenever possible
  • Stay behind minions to avoid Jayce's poke if you can't use the brush
  • Do not let a Jayce push the wave so Spam (W)talonw.png to push the wave early
  • If Jayce gets a Shockblast Combo on you, just retreat. It is not possible to return damage.
  • Look for a Leap Combo whenever Jayce misses a Shockblast Combo (most of Jayce's Damage)
  • Just Roam if you are having difficulties in lane and try to find resource elsewhere. You will most likely give up your tower and many CS, but it will still be in your favor if you can get kills elsewhere.

VS

Katarina

Medium

VS

Kennen

Medium

Matchup:

  • Kennen is extremely strong at harassing and poking in the laning phase but doesn't have the necessary kill pressure until he's level 6.
  • Most Kennen will run Teleport12.png for cross map plays which makes him very strong in split pushing and team fights.
  • Talon will beat Kennen in short burst trades as long as Kennen doesn't get his stun.

Strategies

  • *Optimal level to kill Kennen: level 2-5 (Too much CC after level 6)
  • You can run Thunderlords Decree or Stormraiders Surge against Kennen but I recommend 6362.png because Kennen doesn't have slows and his stun will make 6361.png obsolete.
  • Start Doran's Shield1054.png to negate his early poke and harassment. Furthermore, you should weave in and out of the brushes to avoid his (W)kennenbringthelight.png auto attack.
  • Push in the wave early if you started Doran's Shield1054.png to get level 2 first. If you started Long Sword1036.png, then make sure to avoid his poke early so you have enough health to trade after level 2.
  • Most Kennen will start with their (W)kennenbringthelight.png at level 1. Just keep track of the 5th charge and avoid getting hit by it at all cost or you will take a huge chunk of damage. Just sit in the brush until he waste it to last hit.
  • Make sure to always stand behind a minion or utilize the brush for coverage against Kennen's (Q)kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png. It is a linear skillshot so it should be fairly easy to dodge.
  • Kennen's (E)kennenlightningrush.png gives him 230 bonus movement speed for 3 seconds so chasing him when he uses it is pointless. However, it cost 100 Energy with a 10 seconds cooldown so he cannot readily spam it. Kennen will use this for escape usually but sometimes they will engage with it so be cautious.
  • His (R)kennenshurikenstorm.png is a very strong counter against Talon's (R)talonr.png because it will hit and stun you even in stealth. Once you're stun, Kennen can land his (Q) with ease (even when you're stealth as long as he know the location where you are hit).
  • Make sure to build Mercury Tread3111.png against Kennen as it will cut down his stun duration immensely allowing Talon to retaliate with a combo. Plus, the MR will help mitigate a lot of Kennen's damage.
  • Try to fight Kennen next to a wall; once you get your combo off, simply (E)talone.png over a wall to effectively win the trade.

VS

Kled

Medium

Matchup:

  • The majority of Kled's damage comes from his (W)kledw.png. He's very weak otherwise. So make sure to keep track of the cooldown during laning phase. \
  • Kled is a consistent damage dealer that excels in long skirmish; hence, Talon should never fight him for a long duration.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Kled: Level 2-6 (Increasing difficult as game progresses)
  • During laning phase, Kled usually use his (Q)kledq.png to farm so make sure to not get hit by it. You can use the brush or simply dodge it.
  • Run Stormraider's Surge against Kled so you can escape his (Q)kledq.png and avoid long skirmishes.
  • Always keep track of Kled's (W)kledw.png. It has a 14 Seconds cooldown at rank 1 and it activates involuntarily whenever he auto attacks so he cannot save it. Once it is down, Kled loses immense kill pressure so you can go in for a trade.
  • Killing Kled when he has his passive is easy if he's at 60% or less health. Use your Ignite14.pngto get rid of Skarl then kill him afterwards.
  • Take note that Talon's wound stacks remain on Kled even after he dismounts. So you should always find ways to kill Skarl first before apply the 3rd wound stack then proc your passivetalonpassive.png to finish off Kled.
  • Be cautious of Kled's (E)klede.png as it can dash behind you; hence, if he is behind you while you use your (W)talonw.png then you are guarantee to miss the second hit.
  • Kled's waveclear is not very strong so roaming against him is very efficient and optimally to do.

VS

LeBlanc

VS

Malphite

Medium

Matchup:

  • Malphite is a very bulky Tank that hardly ever dies in lane due to his passivemalphitepassive.png that gives him a 10% max HP shield every 10 seconds.
  • Malphite's consistent damage is very high for a Tank; hence, Talon loses in long trades.
  • He will always run Teleport12.png so he doesn't have immense kill pressure but his laning phase is Rock Solid.
  • Talon generally cannot kill Malphite in lane but Talon's kill pressure still remains and can potentially be lethal if the Malphite doesn't respect it.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Malphite: Level 2-5 (Moderately difficult if the Malphite is a passive player)
  • Talon gets a free laning phase without any kill threats from Malphite so you can shove the lane and force Malphite to spend Mana to farm. However, make sure to always scout for possible ganks when doing so.
  • Most Malphite are confident they won't die so they will always walk up to farm without a care. Thus, you should use your (W)talonw.png when you see him walk up for last hits and run towards him to Auto-Q-Auto to activate your passivetalonpassive.png for maximum damage. In some situations, you may even be able to get a kill if you have Ignite14.png or depending on how far you've pushed the minion wave.
  • Watch for Malphite's (W)obduracy.png when going for Trades as it empowers his Auto attacks and the damage is fairly high so don't do long skirmish against him.
  • Some Malphite uses (Q)seismicshard.png to harass in lane while starting with a Doran's Ring1056.png or Corrupting Potion2033.png so utilize the brush to avoid unnecessary damage.
  • Malphite's (E)landslide.png slows attack speed so you will get frustrated when you cancel your autos so make sure to finish your attack before clicking away.
  • Generally, you want to roam early to make up for the lack of kills in lane. When the Malphite is playing passive, simply find kills elsewhere. His wave clear is quite good so roaming will cost you minions but it's the risk you will have to take if you want to win.
  • Remember Malphite will always have Teleport12.png, so it is a good idea to constantly push in the wave so he cannot make cross map plays. Only stay in lane if your team is doing well without your help. This pressure strategy is very optimal if that is the case.

Olaf

Easy

Matchup:

  • Olaf is extremely strong in a skirmish due to his Passiveolafpassive.png and (W)olaffrenziedstrikes.png which both gives him Attack Speed.
  • Olaf's Scaling is decent but not great, so don't play risky against him and give him unnecessary kills.
  • His burst damage is moderately high in the lane but since Olaf runs Teleport12.png, Talon's Ignite14.png advantage has stronger kill pressure.
  • Treat Olaf as a Tank once he gets any Armor component: 1031.png3047.png

Strategies:

  • *Optimate level to kill Olaf: Level 2-6 (Risky after level 6)
  • Olaf's early damage mostly comes from his (Q)olafaxethrowcast.png so try your best to dodge them in the laning phase.
  • The lower health Olaf is, the faster he attacks due to his passiveolafpassive.png so make sure you burst him down or run if you cannot kill him.
  • Olaf's Ultimateolafragnarok.png gives him 20 Armor and 20 Magic Resist as a passive; however, once he actives his Ultimate, he no longer retains the resistance but instead gains 40 AD. So he becomes even stronger if you cannot burst him while he's low health.
  • After a certain point, usually, once he gets Health or Armor, you cannot kill an Olaf anymore. Simply roam mid or button and quickly return to lane to pick up the minion wave. Olaf's wave clear and pushing power is really strong so don't leave the lane for too long.

VS

Pantheon

Easy

Matchup:

  • Pantheon's passivepantheonpassive.png blocks auto attacks, which means Talon usually have trouble activating his own passivetalonpassive.png; however, there is an effective way to get pass this easily.
  • Pantheon is treated as a Range champion in lane due to his constant harassment from his (Q)pantheonq.png
  • Talon can out damage pantheon after level 6 due to Ultimate advantage.
  • If you're having trouble laning against a Pantheon, consider starting with 1054.png as it helps immensely with stopping the (Q)pantheonq.png poke.
  • Beware of Pantheons that run Ignite14.png. Do not try to duel him without your Ultimatetalonr.png

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Pantheon: Level 6 onwards
  • Utilize the brush to stop Pantheon from harassing you in the laning phase.
  • Do not go for minions where Pantheon can (W)pantheonw.png and stun you. You will take more damage than it's worth for the minion gold.
  • Constantly return damage to Pantheon with Talon's (W)talonw.png. Believe it or not, you can actually trade evenly with Pantheon if you time it correctly.
  • Counter Pantheon's passivepantheonpassive.png by Ultingtalonr.png next to him with an Auto-Q-Auto. He can only block one Auto attack so the second one will proc Talon's passivetalonpassive.png. Generally, you would want to do this after he use his (W)pantheonw.png so he can't refresh his passivepantheonpassive.png
  • Always run pass Pantheon's (E)pantheone.png with the Movement speed provided by your Ultimatetalonr.png to avoid a huge portion of his Damage. It will guarantee that you win the duel.

Renekton

Hard

Matchup:

  • Renekton is a tanky bruiser that does high damage early game but doesn't scale well into the late game.
  • Renekton usually runs Flash4.png and Teleport12.png so Talon has the trade advantage with Ignite14.png
  • Treat Renekton as a Tank once he gets any armor components:1031.png3047.png
  • Respect his damage at all points in the game; Renekton can return more damage than he takes due to his tanky and bursty kit.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Renekton: Level 2-5 (Difficult after level 6)
  • At level 1, look to get both hits of your (W)talonw.png and an Auto attack to activate Thunderlord. This will setup a kill at level 2 if he doesn't use his potion to regen.
  • Renekton is fairly weak if he has 0% Fury so look for trades in this situation.
  • Do no go for trade if Renekton has more than 50% Fury. His empowered (W)renektonpreexecute.png will do 3x damage and stun for 1.5 seconds.
  • Constantly bait Renekton's (Q)renektoncleave.png by stepping towards him and back before engaging.
  • Don't fight Renekton in his ult if you're not confident you can kill him within 2 seconds. His Ultimaterenektonreignofthetyrant.png generates Fury and does AOE damage. If you traded Ultimates with a Renekton, just simply retreat and try again later because his Ultimate has a flat 120 Seconds cooldown at level 6 which is longer than Talon's Ultimate cooldown (110 Seconds).
  • Do not stay in lane if Renekton is no longer killable. Try to roam mid or bot lane for pressure and quickly return to lane, because Renekton's wave clear and pushing power is very good.

VS

Riven

Medium

Matchup:

  • Riven is a bursty Champion like Talon. However, she requires a longer amount of time to finish her Combo than Talon; Hence, Talon has the advantage because he can finish his Combo first and potentially retreat.
  • Since Riven is a Melee Champion, Talon can poke her easily with (W)talonw.png and potentially look for a Trade Combo whenever possible.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Riven: Level 2-6 (Risky after level 6 unless you're ahead)
  • Run Thunderlord's Decree6362.png because Riven doesn't have any slows and her CC will make Stormraider's Surge6361.png useless if you get caught.
  • Use Exhaust3.png against Riven if you want to survive the 1v1 or take Ignite14.png to have higher kill pressure. Or simply take Doran's Shield1054.png to sustain her poke.
  • At level 1, harass Riven with (W)talonw.png and try to get both hits then Auto attack to activate Thunderlord. You will 100% win the trade.
  • Talon beats Riven at level 2 so play aggressively
  • Poke Riven frequently with (W)talonw.png and look for a Trade Combo. Riven cannot retaliate if you can get off a full combo because you will have 40-50% health advantage.
  • Riven's engage is very telegraphed as she will dash towards you indefinitely. To counter this, just use (W)talonw.png in her direction and you will get both hits easily then finish off with an Auto-Q-Auto to proc your passive. More often than not, you will burst her to low health and potentially kill her.
  • She will constantly spam her (E)rivenfeint.png to trade, so don't commit for a trade unless you can set up a full combo.
  • Try to fight Riven next to a wall if possible. Simply land a combo and escape through a wall with (E)talone.png

  • Singed will almost always run Teleport12.png so his kill pressure is very low.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Singed: Level 2-5 (Don't chase a Singed after level 6)
  • Stormraider is very good against Singed for chase or escape.
  • Rush an Executioner's Calling3123.png as soon as possible to counteract Singed's Health Regen
  • Poke Singed with (W)talonw.png frequently and look for a Trade Combo
  • Play aggressively early and avoid unnecessary damage from Singed's (Q)poisontrail.png
  • Do NOT chase a Singed if you cannot kill him within 2 seconds of chasing!
  • If a Singed is running towards you, Simply use (W)talonw.png to zone him and retaliate with a Trade Combo
  • When Singed use (R)insanitypotion.png, do not chase him as it is unlikely you will kill him. Just poke him and wait it out. Your Executioner's Calling3123.png will reduce some of his Health Regen.

  • Most swain will run Teleport12.png so you always have the upper hand with Ignite14.png during a duel.
  •  Swain has range advantage on Talon but since the Top lane is much longer, there are many opportunities to kill him.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Swain: Level 2-5 (Difficult after level 6 without Ignite)
  • You should always run Stormraiders Surge against swain.
  • Take control of the brushes to make it easier to land your (W)talonw.png
  • Always take precaution to dodge Swain's (W)swainshadowgrasp.png by baiting it during and engage. You can also use your (Q)talonq.png to dodge it and be right next to him for follow up damage.
  • Most Swain will use (Q)swaindecrepify.png to harass you but it's very easy to run away from without taking much damage.
  • Beware of Swain's (E)swaintorment.png as it amplifies his damage so wait it out before you go for a trade.
  • Do not be afraid of swain until he gets his ultimate, just go for a Trade combo whenever possible.
  • After Swain is level 6 with Armor/Health components, try to push the wave and roam mid as much as possible. Swain's wave clear is not very good so he usually cannot follow the roam.

Matchup:

  • Teemo is champion that has 500 Range; hence, his harassment in lane is very strong in addition with his (Q)blindingdart.png and (E)toxicshot.png
  • Talon's biggest advantage in the matchup is his high burst potential so Talon always wins in short trades.
  • Teemo can be played as an AP or AD champion so he is hard to itemize against but very vulnerable in the early game.
  • He generally runs Teleport12.png but beware of Teemo with Ignite14.png or Exhuast3.png as they have much higher kill pressure that can easily catch you off guard if you play too aggressively.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Teemo: Level 2-6
  • Make sure to use the brush to stay out vision during laning phase to avoid unnecessary poke from Teemo.
  • Run Thunderlord for stronger kill potential or Stormraider to fight Teemo post level 6.
  • Remember Teemo's (Q)blindingdart.png  will blind a target so Talon cannot activate his passivetalonpassive.png to finish the combo. In order to avoid this, you need to get an early Mercury's Tread3111.png or use Talon's (R)talonr.png to wait out the duration in stealth before finish the combo.
  • If a Teemo is running in a direction not optimal for escape, he is luring you into his Shroomsteemorcast.png so do not chase him if you cannot kill him instantly.
  • Teemo's wave clear is very poor; thus, you should always find opportunities to roam if you can no longer get kills in lane. You will generally return to lane without losing much resource.

  • Tryndamere excels at long skirmish but also possess moderate burst damage due to his Critical hit heavy kit so Talon actually loses if the duel is longer than 3 seconds.
  • His split pushing is very difficult to manage unless you have proper matchup experience, but there is an optimal strategy to counter it. It's not completely foolproof but it's very effective.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Tryndamere: Level 2-5 (Very difficult after level 6)
  • Use Stormraider's Surge against Tryndamere for trading and retreating.
  • First off, learn to gauge Tryndamere's Fury. Do not engage him when he has 100% charged.
  •  Always start with a Doran's Shield1054.png against Tryndamere to make it easier to duel him.
  • It is also ideal to rush a Ninja Tabi3047.png and Executioner's Calling3123.png if you're ahead to guarantee that Tryndamere cannot outplay you later with his (R)undyingrage.png (which is Tryndamere's greatest comeback tool).
  • Be careful when roaming against Tryndamere, he can push the wave very quickly and kill your tower. Just roam quickly for high potential kills in the Mid lane and return to lane hastily afterward.
  • How to fight Tryndamere after level 6. You must reserve your ultimate to escape or Stormraider's Surge and kite his ult when going for a kill. Also, save your Ignite14.png for the second engage. Tryndamere's (R)undyingrage.png last 5 seconds with an 110 seconds cooldown at level 6.
  • How to deal with a Tryndamere split push. You must ask your bot lane to constantly follow the Tryndamere to mitigate his split push; moreover, you must constantly make plays around the map with Talon's immense roam pressure. It is a race against Time when playing against Tryndamere. So the idea is to gain as much resource by killing the enemy team while your bot lane keeps the Tryndamere in check. You can also use your ADC as bait and set up a kill on the Tryndamere during the late game because Spawn timer is very high, which allows you a huge time window to dive the enemy team or get objectives with your team. The key point is to not waste Talon's map pressure by splitting against the Tryndamere; just send someone that has good wave clear and won't die to Tryndamere under the tower.

Matchup:

  • Volibear is a tank with burst damage and a passivevolibearpassive.png that sustains very well against Talon's burst.
  • Typically you don't want to want to have a long skirmish with Volibear at any point of the game.
  • His scaling is not as good as other tanks but his laning phase is extremely oppressive if he gains a lead.
  • He's also great for setting up ganks with (Flash)4.png and (Q)volibearq.png

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Volibear: Level 2-6 (Burst him quick after level 6 or you will die)
  • Get an early Executioners Calling 3123.png to mitigate his passive health regen
  • Do not engage a Volibear that has full stacks of his (W)volibearw.png
  • Beware that his (Q)volibearq.png flips you behind him so if you used your (W)talonw.png right next to him, you will guarantee to miss the 2nd hit.
  • After he gets any Armor items, you will have to avoid him and roam elsewhere.
  • Remember he has poor scaling and wave clear; hence, just roam frequently and create pressure elsewhere.
  • Wait for your Ultimate talonr.png for extra kill potential against Volibear.

Yasuo

Matchup:

  • Yasuo is an exceptionally strong duelist if he gets ahead in lane; hence, it is wise to be cautious when playing against him.
  • Yasuo vs Talon is an equal skill matchup so the better player will win.
  • Yasuo is an elusive champion that has consistent damage output but hardly any burst damage without Critical Chance so Talon has the advantage in short skirmishes.
  • Take note that Yasuo's scaling potential is extremely high, so even if you win lane early you will have to end the game before he has his core items.

Strategies:

  • *Optimal level to kill Yasuo: Level 2-6
  • Gauge Yasuo's (Q)yasuoqw.png range as he will spam this frequently to poke you in lane so dodge them when going for CS.
  • Yasuo's engage is very linear and easy to predict; thus, if you see him walk towards you, simply use your (W)talonw.png and setup a combo.
  • Yasuo's passiveyasuopassive.png keeps him very healthy in lane and allows him to trade efficiently but it has a long recharge time so pressure him with your (W)talonw.png and look for Trade Combos whenever possible. Talon's damage will break the shield and win out in the trade if executed correctly.
  • Take note that Yasuo's Windwallyasuowmovingwall.png has a cooldown of 26 seconds at rank 1.
  • Yasuo's (W)yasuowmovingwall.png can block and cancel both Talon's (W)talonw.png and (R)talonr.png. Here's how you can tell if the Yasuo is a good player. One, he will always block the return hit of your (W)talonw.png instead of predicting the initial hit. Two, he will place his champion's model inside his Windwallyasuowmovingwall.png to block both hits of your (R)talonr.png. If any of the above happened, you will have already lost the trade because you cannot generate 3 stacks of wound to active your passivetalonpassive.png so you should look to retreat.
  • Learn to maximize your (Q)talonq.png damage against Yasuo because it is the only spell he cannot block. Since his (W)yasuowmovingwall.png can negate so many of your abilities, you will have to heavily rely on your (Q)talonq.png to win duels. First, only use your range (Q)talonq.png when you already have 2 stacks of wound on him from your (W)talonw.png for a Trade Combo then retreat before he can retaliate. Next, if he (E)yasuodashwrapper.png onto you, make sure you use Auto-Q-Auto for a heavy burst then follow up with the rest of your spells to activate your passivetalonpassive.png
  • Talon's (R)talonr.png can outplay Yasuo's (R)yasuorknockupcombow.png very easily. Before Yasuo's (Q)yasuoqw.png knock-up register, simply go into stealth and Yasuo can no longer use his (R)yasuorknockupcombow.png because he has no vision and has to recharge his (Q)yasuoqw.png again so you can burst him before he does.
  • *Advice* - don't chase Yasuo when he's dashing through your minions with (E)yasuodashwrapper.png unless you are certain you will kill him otherwise he will outplay you with his knock-up.

Talon Top vs Mid Back to Top

Top Lane Pros:

  1. Better Matchups - There are less range champions in the top lane so Talon gets a much easier laning phase without having to deal with range harassment. There are, however, more Tanks but they hardly have any kill pressure so Talon is much safer in the Top lane than in Mid because of it.
  2. Longer Lane - Talon's kill pressure increases immensely in a longer lane because he has gap close and ignite; subsequently, the enemy takes longer to retreat to the safety of their towers.
  3. Longer Roam Time - Because the lane is longer, minions also take longer to crash into your tower; hence, Talon has more time to roam and return to lane before the tower kills the minions.
  4. Hard to Gank - Since there is essentially one direction for Junglers to gank Top lane, as long as you ward it and jump over a wall when a gank happens, you should escape safely.
  5. No Full AD Comp - By playing Talon in the Top lane, your team can have an AP mid so you are not forced to play a full AD composition.

Top Lane Cons:

  1. Stagnant Lane - Laning phase becomes very stale after level 6 because there are many Tanks in the top lane or your opponent started playing very safe. Thus, you cannot get much kills Top lane thereafter.
  2. Teleport Disadvantage - It becomes increasing difficult to manipulate the minion wave or get experience advantage during the laning phase due to your opponent having Teleport.

Mid Lane Pros:

  1. Easier to Cheese - It is very easy to cheese kill an opponent at level 2 in the Mid lane because they are very squishy in nature and seldom do they respect the Talon level 2 burst.
  2. Shorter Lane - Talon can push Mid lane with ease against range matchups to avoid the harass due to the lane being shorter.
  3. More Roam Option - Being in the center of the map means you can choose to roam Top lane or Bot lane.
  4. Faster Lane Travel - It is faster to travel back to Mid lane than Top lane. Additionally, Mid lane has more walls to travel to from base.

Mid Lane Cons:

  1. Less Roam Time - Because the lane is much shorter, the minions will hit the tower quicker. Hence, Talon has less time to roam because he will lose resource if tower kills all the minions.
  2. Harder Matchups - Mid lane generally have a lot of Range mages that are great at harassing a melee champion like Talon. Hence, unless you push in the wave, you will receive a lot of harassment.
  3. Easier to Gank - Junglers can appear from many directions to gank Mid lane. Additionally, the walls are thinner so they can pursue Talon easily with Flashes or Dashes after he jumps .
  4.  Full AD Comp - There is a high possibility that you will play a full AD composition if your Jungler or Top laner doesn't go AP.
  5. Situation Item Build - Some Mid lane matchups with heavy AP burst damage will force you to build MR items that are not damage efficient.

Talon's Combos Back to Top

Video Link: Talon Combo

True Combo: (talonw.png > talonr.png > talonq.png > talonpassive.png)

  • This is Talon's most efficient combo in many situations. The combined damage will allow Talon to assassinate any squishy champions and escape quickly with the remaining Movement Speed provided by (R)talonr.png and his (E)talone.png for wall jump.

Trade Combo: (talonw.png > talonq.png > talonpassive.png)

  • This combo provides significant damage but not necessarily enough to secure a kill. It is implemented for effectively trading in lane. By completing this combo, it is nearly impossible for your opponent to retaliate without risking their life as you will have the Health advantage.

Leap Combo: (talonq.png > talonw.png > talonpassive.png)

  • Only utilize this combo if you are confident that you can withstand the return damage from your opponent. This combo is ideal when you're very far ahead of your opponent. In which case they will be forced to retreat without returning any damage.

Stealth Combo: (talonr.png > [talonq.png talonw.png or talonw.pngtalonq.png]  >talonpassive.png)

  • If the opponent has skill shot crowd control, this combo is meant to dodge them before initiating. Take note that this combo is very inconsistent as it potentially loses out on two damage components:
  1. Outgoing damage of (R)talonr.png if used too far from opponent
  2. Returning Damage from (W)talonw.png if opponent flees

Instant Combo: (talonw.png > talonq.png > talonr.png > talonpassive.png

  • This is Talon's quickest combo and really difficult for the opponent to reactively flash away from. The performance level of this combo needs to be precise but is very easy to learn. Here is the step to follow when performing this combo:
  1. Land the first hit of your (W)talonw.png
  2. Use your (Q)talonq.png the moment you throw out your (W)talonw.png
  3. During the animation of the (Q)talonq.png use your (R)talonr.png in mid-air to apply the third wound stack.
  4. As soon as your (Q)talonq.png finish, apply an Auto Attack to activate Talon's (passive)talonpassive.png to finish the combo.

Early Game Back to Top

Game Start:

  •  At the start of the game, purchase a 1036.png and 2031.png before leaving the base.
  • Level up Talon's (W)talonw.png at level 1 every game.
  • Protect your Junger's buff or invade with your team depending on your team's composition.
  • Head back to Top lane at 1:05 to prepare for the laning phase.

Laning Phase: (Level 1-3)

  • Utilize the brushes if possible to avoid poke or harass from range champions. By abusing brush control, it allows you to land Talon's (W)talonw.png easier as the enemy has less time to react if they can't see it coming.
  • At level 1, try to activate your Thunderlord's Decree by hitting both hits of (W)talonw.png and an Auto-Attack. This will set up a kill potential at level 2 if you can get them low at level 1. It is really easy to do against Melee champions if you predict where they will walk up for CS and just use your (W)talonw.png in that direction.
  • At level 2, always finish a Trade Combo if you have the same or higher health than your opponent. You will guarantee to win the trade.
  • At level 3 (post 3:00 minutes) skill (E)talone.png to avoid a potential gank. However, if the lane is pushed towards you in, skill (W)talonw.png instead.

First Recall:

  • The ideal time to recall is after a kill at level 2 or level 3 then push in the wave to recall.
  • Purchase a 3077.png if possible or two1036.png and a2055.png to prevent future ganks so you can keep snowballing.
  • When returning to lane post level 3, make sure to use Talon's (E)talone.png to jump as many walls as possible.

Stagnant Lane: (Post level 5)

  • After level 5, you will realize that it becomes increasingly difficult to kill your opponent because they are either a Tank Champion or starting to play really safe.
  • Do not expend too much time in lane at this point and look to roam mid or bottom after level 6.

Second Recall:

  • Purchase a 3147.png whenever possible for the most damage early game. The damage passive works immensely well with Talon's combos for extra damage to get kills easier and the 10% Cooldown Reduction will give you more (R)talonr.png Usage.

Laning Phase: (Level 5-9)

  • At this point, you should consider destroying the Top Tower as soon as possible to end the laning phase. Ending the laning phase will allow Talon to roam and dominate other lanes. It's perfect if your Jungler is Top lane to help you; however, if you are unable to efficiently take the tower, do not worry. There are plenty of optimal options available to Talon.
  • Start roaming repeatedly and return to lane to farm quickly afterward. This will create immense map pressure and force your opponents to make mistakes in which your team can capitalize upon.
  • Do not roam for too long if the tower is still alive. Always watch the minion wave and return to lane to farm it.
  • *IMPORTANT* When roaming, make sure to use (E)talone.png to jump walls to avoid enemies' vision and make your ganks less predictable.

Mid Game Back to Top

Mid Game: (Level 9+)

  • Ideal items entering into the Mid Game: [Duskblade + Boots + Blue Trinket]
  • You will need a decent amount of damage entering the mid game in order to fully optimize Talon's roam pressure.
  • Mid game is mainly objective focus rather than laning. Hence, it requires a lot of experience and game knowledge but once you master the following strategy, you will become a Talon specialist.

Towers: 1st Priority

  • Focus on getting low health towers by roaming and assassinating the enemy laner in Mid or Bot lane.
  • Try to kill all of the Outer Towers from each lane before transitioning to inner turrets.
  • Before you roam, always ping 5-10 seconds ahead of time so your teammate can set up the gank.
  • Take paths that are less likely to be seen by wards by hopping through walls.

Rift Herald: 2nd Priority

  • Patch 7.9 - Rift Herald becomes an instant siege (Last 4 Minutes before expire)
  • The ideal lane to summon Rift Herald is Mid lane; however, there are implications where side lanes are better due to less defenders.
  • Rift Herald guarantees at least one tower if used correctly. Two towers is also likely.
  • Try to apply Rift Herald after winning a team fight for a massive push.
  • Rift Herald can be combined to push with Baron buff; however, this scenario is rare so just use it early to get towers for map advantage.

Dragons: 3rd Priority

  • All Dragons are great for Talon so don't be skeptical taking them when the enemy team cannot contest.
  • Talon's (Passive) works on Dragons; hence, Talon is extremely adept in taking dragons and he can even solo it without any problem.
  • Fire Drake: The best Dragon to take to help with the snowball.
  • Mountain Drake: The second best Dragon to take to help with destroying Towers and Baron
  • Wind Drake: The third best Dragon to take because it provide Talon with immense roaming potential
  • Ocean Drake: The least best Dragon to take; however, it's still great because it can heal Talon while he roams.

Late Game Back to Top

Late Game: (Level 16+)

  • Ideal items entering into the Late Game: [Completed boots + Ghostblade + Duskblade + Black Cleaver]
  • Talon's Late Game effectiveness depends on the amounts of squishy enemy champions (Ideally 1 or 2)
  • In the Late Game, it's essential to flank the enemy back line by jumping walls with Talon's (E)
  • There are 2 effective strategies to play the Late Game depending on your team composition and gold advantage.

Team Fights: 1st Strategy

  • Talon is designed to assassinate the back line of the enemy team during team fights; hence, it is your responsibility to kill the ADC or Mid laner.
  • Always gauge your damage output throughout the game so you have a better idea of who's the ideal target to kill during team fights.
  • Always flank the backline by staying out of vision. Do not engage a team fight when the enemy has vision of you.

Split Push: 2nd Strategy

  • Split pushing requires your team to have a team composition with good wave clear.
  • Only split when you want to prolong the game because you're behind.
  • When you are ahead, split push by clearing the minion wave and transition back to your team for possible flanks.
  • Do Not split against an enemy team with Baron buff, you cannot out push the enemy team in any given situation.

*Target Selection* Back to Top

Strategy:

  • Playing Talon and effectively killing your target requires precise target selection.
  • The general rule of thumb is to always go for the squishy carries.
  • There is a system of Target Selection that I came up with that is fairly efficient.
  • Basically, you assign a point value to your target depending on the items they build.
  • The higher the point value, the least likely you will be able to kill them.

Ideal Targets:

  1. ADC is prioritized because they cannot afford to buy Tank items so their point value is usually 0 or 1 point. They also possess high damage so getting rid of them is very crucial.
  2. Mid is secondary because they can usually build Health core items so their point value is usually 1 or 2 points. They also have high burst damage to start the fight so killing them before they can cast their spell will usually win you the fight.
  3. Bruiser Top is second or third because they are moderately difficult to kill but it is still doable depending on your lead. Their point value is usually 1-3 points.
  4. Jungle is third or fourth depending on their build. Most junglers go tank but occasionally you get assassin or bruiser junglers that have slightly lower point value between 1-3 points.
  5. Support is third or fourth because they can only build support items which have low point value but their kit provide them with good sustain. Hence their point value is usually 1 or 3. In addition, prioritizing the support is usually a bad idea because they do not have much contribution to damage in team fights.
  6. Tank Top is the most difficult to kill because their build is designed fully on Tank items. Their point value is usually 4-7. Thus, it is advised to avoid them as much as possible because they require too much effort to kill.

Scoring System:

  1. Armor items = 1 point
  2. Health items = 1 point
  3. Armor Components = 0.5 points
  4. Health Components = 0.5 points

Why Do I Play Talon? Back to Top

Main Reasons:

  • Talon has been a very stable champion for me with over 60% win rate in my Challenger main account and 92% Winrate on my Platinum smurf.
  • He also has very few bad matchups in the Top lane and very effective against Tanks or Bruisers.
  • Roaming with Talon feels very proactive as it feels like I'm always doing something and winning games in the process. It is a refreshing feeling when playing League of Legends.
  • Moreover, Talon can choose to split push or team fights. Both strategies require a great deal of game knowledge which means I can only get better the more I play.
  • Talon is very fluid and fun due to his aggressive kit which provides high burst damage and caters to my playstyle.
  • I feel very confident when I play Talon and always manage to carry some games that seem unwinnable.
  • Talon does not rely on Jungle ganks or teammates. He is usually the one that kills important targets and let your team have an easier time cleaning up any team fights.
  • He makes the enemy team feel immense pressure throughout the game which easily translates to capitalizable mistakes.
  • Gameplay wise Talon has high kill pressure in lane and great wave clear.
  • He is very hard to gank or chase due to his high mobility.

Do I Still Play Tryndamere? Back to Top

Answer: Yes

  • Tryndamere is still very strong in any Elo at the moment.
  • I reserve him as a secondary and will only play him if Talon is banned.
  • Since split pushing is still effective in Season 7, Tryndamere is still viable and can create immense pressure for your team if you're ahead.
