Summoner Spells Back to Top

7.png I usually take this 90% of the time as the support usually runs Exhaust or ignite.

3.png Take this if you see that the enemy team is assassin heavy; it will help you out in any 1 v 1 situation against an AD champion.

Pretty standard. One thing to note: if you don't feel like you will need the knockback from E level 2 than take W, especially if you think you can get 3 autos on the enemy AD in trades.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

I always start Doran's blade. The early game 80 HP, extra AD, and health returned on autos is just too good to pass up.

Core Items

This is what I end up with late game most of the time.
Get Mercurial Scimitar if they have Zed, WW, heavy CC, etc.
Get Randuins if they have a heavy AD team.

Situational Items

Use this only if they have low CC so they cant lock you up after you revive. An extra life lategame is always nice.
I get this instead of getting PD only if my team needs waveclear or I am behind and need to catch up on farm. Buy the zeal component first, because the attk speed is more valuable than the mediocre gp5 component of avarice blade.

VS

Alistar

Medium

Keep the brushes warded so you are not zoned by his headbutt pulv combo. Also if you are pro, you can Condemn him right when he uses Headbutt to negate it and push him away from you.

VS

Ashe

Medium

When you think she will volley, try and get behind your minions. Tumble if you have to, because they made its mana cost fairly small now. Do not be afraid to trade with her when her volley is on CD, using your tumble. Juke out her arrow with your stealth or flash, and you destroy her after 6.

VS

Blitzcrank

Easy

Ward the brushes he camps --> Tumble his grabs --> Profit

If he tries to walk up to you, do not be intimidated by him. Keep autoing him while kiting back, and finally juke out the grab with a tumble. Condemn him away if you really have to.

VS

Caitlyn

Hard

Hell lane against a good Caitlyn. Her insane range keeps you from trading easily with her, and she can net if you manage to close the gap. The good news is you can easily dodge her Q with yours. However if you step on the cupcake, you can basically kiss half your hitpoints goodbye if she is in range.

VS

Corki

Medium

This matchup is pretty much who can outplay the other in lane. You can dodge his Q with your Q, as he will most likely Q immediately after and auto so try and tumble it. He does more burst damage than you, but its fairly easy to beat him 1v1 especially after you get your ult. TLDR dodge his stuff and win.

VS

Draven

Hard

Draven easily outdamages Vayne when trading autos early game, using his Spinning Axe. Good news is that his auto range is pretty short so you can easily predict when he is trying to auto you, and you can duck into an unwarded brush or be more patient with your last hits. It's not as bad as Caitlyn so don't be too intimidated.

VS

Ezreal

Easy

Easy pz with Vayne, pretty boy Ezreal has nothing on her. His range is short, his mystic shot can be avoided by staying behind your creeps AND you can tumble it if you have to. In fact, you can actually win against Ezreal in lane if you are aggressive with your tumbles and be mindful of the enemy support. Once you hit 6, as long you avoid his Ult, you pretty much have it in the bag.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Medium

Not played too often, but you basically are forced to run cleanse because of the ridiculous fear uptime. He is fairly squishy in lane, and his E bounce can be annoying. If he does walk up to drain you, just tumble out of it, or Condemn him, preferably into a wall.

VS

Graves

Medium

Best way to farm against graves is to tumble away from his Q. He does high DPS if he gets the most out of his Quickdraw with autos, but you can always condemn + tumble out. You destroy him after six with your ult, especially if you can juke out his ulti. Avoid the annoying smokescreen.

VS

Kog'Maw

Medium

When he activates his W, try and stay away from him early game, because he can easily abuse his range and poke you without being hit. Other than that, he doesnt do too much early game. At 6, try and tumble out of his slow + ultis in lane. You should destroy him after 6 if you ever get in range with your ulti steroid.

VS

Leona

Medium
1. Always keep the brushes warded
2. Tumble her E
3. Condemn her E if you can't tumble it
4. Tumble her Ultimate
5. Take cleanse

If she does land her E, say good bye to at least 3/4 of your health if not all of it.

VS

Lucian

Medium

Vayne can tumble Lucian's Q, but watch out for his Lightslinger passive hitting you twice after he casts a spell. At lvl 6 you should destroy him in an all in fight.

VS

Lulu

Hard

A good Lulu is extremely annoying, and her damage output as a support is one of the best. If she walks up to you past the creeps to E, make sure you try and get an auto off on her, possible a tumble AA too. Her Q is fairly easy to dodge if Pix is not attached to you. Her polymorph is extremely annoying however, and the same goes for her ult especially if she uses it correctly. You have to play your best against a Lulu.

VS

Lux

Easy

Pretty easy for vayne to deal with, since you can dodge both her skill shots. If she does land her binding after shes 6, good luck.

VS

Miss Fortune

Hard

No matter how tempting it is, do not ever try and trade with an MF early game. Her combo with auto Q auto will destroy you. Just play the farm game, tumble out of her E, predict when she tries to overextend to harass you and just step back. Get as many last hits as you can, and you destroy her when you hit 6 because of the steroid from your ult, tumble, and how you can easily tumble/flash her ult.

VS

Nami

Easy

tumble her Q ( don't worry, no one plays nami)

VS

Nidalee

Medium

You find Nid supports sometimes in soloque. Keep the brushes warded because abusing them is her strongest point. Tumble her spears or simply dodge them. Trade with her if she tries to auto you, you outdamage her easily. Did I mention you should keep the bot brushes warded?

VS

Nunu

Hard

Ice blast is your bane. The AS debuff, the decent damage, the slow, are three things that Vayne absolutely hates. He is pretty easy to manage in lane, unless you let him run up to you for free without harassing him back. I would take cleanse against him because he will most likely be carrying exhaust as well.

VS

Sivir

Medium

Tumble her Q and you will be fine. You outrange her slightly and her AA reset is weaker than yours. Try to bait out the spellshield before you try and condemn. Main point is to dodge her boomerang blade.

VS

Sona

Hard

A good sona will be extremely annoying; doing consistent damage to you while making any sort of small trades meaningless because of her heal spam. The best advice is to watch her while you are last hitting, and move back when she tries to Q so it hits minions instead.

VS

Soraka

Medium

Her sustain for her ADC is fairly annoying early on. Try to always tumble her Q. She is easily dealt with in fights if you have a solid CC chain bot lane, with your jungler, or ignite.

VS

Tristana

Medium

She is not too hard to deal with early because of her horrible range. Try and Condemn her into a wall, and try to condemn her jump. If you cant condemn the jump, dodge it with a tumble, and try and get her pinned to a wall when she lands. At level 6 be careful of going all in  because of the insane base damage on Tristana's ultimate.

VS

Twitch

Hard

A good twitch will outrade you in lane so your best bet (as usual) is to try and farm it out. You will beat him if you can land the Condemn, but try not to tumble harras the good ones because they won't use their flask until they see you tumble. Also, drawn out trades with him result in a loss almost all the time because of his passive stacks and his expunge, so once again, you are better off farming.

VS

Urgot

Medium

You barely see Urgot bot these days, but he can be a pain if played correctly. He is pretty tanky early on. The best advice is to dodge his E with your tumble so he cant lock on his Acid Hunters.

VS

Varus

Medium

You can tumble his Q, his E, possibly his ult (although it is extremely hard to considering its projectile speed). His range is pretty short, and it is possible to trade with him in lane using your tumble if you dodge his stuff, but most likely you are better off farming.

VS

Zyra

Medium

Ill keep this one short, tumble her Q, tumble her E, kill her plants when you cant be attacked back. If you get hit by a single root while in the range of the enemy AD, consider yourselves either 2 summoners short or dead.

Laning Back to Top

Vayne is not an easy champion to lane with, but you can pull it off if you get enough practice with her. First of all, judge your opponents' skill level.

If both the enemy ADC and support are good, focus mostly on trying to last hit. Do not be stingy with your tumble; if you need it to get a last hit, or you need to dodge a spell, just press Q. Its mana cost got buffed recently so you can get away with using it liberally. However, if you spam it like every other auto to last hit, you will run out of mana. Another tip is to be smart about trades. Always keep on the move while last hitting, and move back after you last hit to avoid enemy autos/spells. While it is wise to farm, NEVER let your opponents hit you for free, especially if they overextend past their creepline. Autoattack them while kiting back to your tower, tumble any spells possible, and wait for them to back off. If they do go all in, then use your summoner spells accordingly; do not panic and spam them if they are not necessary. Your dorans blade heal per hit will help you tremendously. Remember, your main objective is to last until level 6 and this is when you will transition into a mid game powerhouse with enough farm.

Now if one or both of the opponents are of lower skill level than you, than you can attempt to trade in lane. Although Vayne is fairly weak in lane, you can always outplay lesser skilled players, and you should try and press your advantage as much as you can. However, if your support is not very good, just play safe and farm, because overextending to get free damage on the enemy is not worth your life when their jungler ganks.

Mid Game Back to Top

Mid game is best for Vayne once you have3153_64.png. Attack speed complements these items nicely so try to get a 3086_64.png short afterwards. Focus on securing objectives with your teammates, and try to juke out their CC (if any) before committing fully. It's best if your tanky jungler/support initiate the skirmishes first. Always keep in mind the potential of enemy "globals", such as Teleport, Destiny, Man Drop, etc. At the same time, you have to be decisive. Know when you can Pop your ult and chase someone down, and always try to look for the easy condemn, especially in jungle skirmishes.

Late game Back to Top

Don't die and kill them all. Self-explanatory.
