Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png Flash is one of the best summoner spells in the game due to the variety of uses. It can be used to reposition in fights, escape from the enemies, or even pull a fancy flash condemn. Always take flash when going as Vayne.
7.png Heal is a must for every ADC. It not only heals yourself, but also your support and teammates around you. Take this instead of barrier.
1.png Cleanse is also a good choice for teams with heavy CC but heal is the top option in summoner spells.
12.png If you want to go top lane Vayne, you should bring teleport because you are isolated from everyone else and teleport is a good way to help your team out with objctives.

New Runes Back to Top

Hello everyone,

Patch 7.22 marks the end of Season 7 and we are now entering Preseason. With it, the new runes are implemented and mastery pages are no longer available. However, Riot did bring a number of base stat increases to each champion to compensate for the masteries. With the implementation of Runes Reforged, you choose one of five rune pages to select as your main rune page and the another one as your secondary. You select 4 runes from the main rune tree and then 2 from the secondary rune tree. In this guide, I will be talking about the main rune tree we will be using, Precision

Precision- Improved auto attacks and sustained damage
This rune page caters more to champions who deal damage with auto attacks such as ADC and melee champions. This is a must for ADCs. Because Vayne is an auto attack based champion, she will benefit greatly from this tree compared to any other rune tree. Let's talk about what runes we will select.

Keystone- Fleet%20Footwork.png?width=32Fleet Footwork
PASSIVE – ENERGIZED STRIKE: Moving and attacking generates Energize stacks, up to 100. When fully Kircheis Shard item energized, your next basic attack gains FLEET FOOTWORK.
FLEET FOOTWORK: Your next basic attack Heal power restores 3 - 60 (based on level) (+ 30% bonus AD) (+ 40% AP) health and grants 30% bonus Movement speed icon movement speed for 1 second. The healing is only 60% effective versus minions.

With this rune, you will be able to heal when you build up your energized attack and also gain a big rush of movement speed for 1 second so it'll help you chase down an enemy if they are trying to run away
Overheal.png?width=32 Overheal

PASSIVE: Heal power Healing in excess of your maximum health is converted into a Hybrid resistances icon shield for an amount of up to 10 (+ 10% of maximum health). The shield lasts 6 seconds, and then decays over a 2-second duration. Receiving healing, dealing or taking damage will refresh the shield duration to 6 seconds.

Pretty much what this rune does is takes the excess lifesteal that you have and converts into a shield. When you turn your Relic Shield into a Targon's Brace, that shield will become much stronger. This combined with shields/heals you get from teammates and the shield from Bloodthirster will make you unkillable in the late game.

Legend%20Bloodline.png?width=32 Legend: Bloodline
PASSIVE: Gain (0.8% per Legend stack) Life steal icon life steal, up to 8% at 10 stacks.
LEGEND: Gain Legend stacks for every 20 points earned, up to 10:
  • 20 points for champion takedowns
  • 20 points for epic monster takedowns
  • 5 points for large monster kills
  • 1 points for minion kills

This rune will help you have life steal in the early game. I choose this rune because you already have a lot of attack speed from the keystone, so life steal will be much important to you if you want to stay alive.

Coup%20De%20Grace.png?width=32 Coup De Grace
PASSIVE: Deal 10% increased damage to champions below 40% health.
Additionally, you gain bonus Attack Damage or 15 Ability Power (Adaptive) for 10 seconds whenever you score a champion Damage rating takedown. This bonus does not stack.

This rune will help you secure kills when you get into close fights. You also gain a small amount of AD after killing an enemy which will help in prolonged teamfights.

Secondary- Resolve

Revitalize.png?width=32 Revitalize
PASSIVE: Grants 5% Heal powerHybrid resistances icon Heal and Shield Power.
Outgoing healing and outgoing shielding is increased by 10% versus targets below 40% health.
Incoming healing, incoming shielding, self healing and self shielding are increased by 10% while you are below 40% health.

This just increases all the healing you get so when you get a good amount of lifesteal, it'll help you survive much longer. Plus it also increases healing/shields from teammates as well.

Iron%20Skin.png?width=32 Iron Skin
PASSIVE: Gain 5 bonus armor.
Additionally, you gain 5% armor for 3 seconds whenever you restore at least 20 health, restore health from a consumable or are shielded.

Same as above, you will need all the help you will get in lane from the harass, the additional armor this rune provides will increase the chances of you surviving

Masteries Back to Top

Ferocity Tree-
With Vayne it is extremely important to get the attack speed from this mastery because they will help you to get more auto attacks in and they will help you scale into the late game better. Sorcery is useless for Vayne because she does no AP damage at all.

I prefer to take feast because it will help me to sustain much better in lane. I haven't tried Expose Weakness, but it seems pretty strong if you have a support who can poke constantly. I don't like taking Double-Edged Sword because even though you deal 2% damage, you are taking an additional 2% as well and this is from all sources of damage. Sure, you have more damage but you are making yourself even easier to kill.

The 2% life steal is extremely helpful in the early game, and this combined with a Doran's Blade will give you 5
% lifesteal total. This will help you to sustain off minions when you are at low health. Don't take Natural Talent because it only gives you +10 AD at level 18 and that's not worth at all.

Bounty Hunter:
You are the main damage dealer of the team and so the more kills you get, the more damage you will do to the enemy. Whenever you get a kill on a champion, you will do more damage and so this mastery is a no brainer.

Battering Blows:
With 7% armor penetration, you will be ignoring a portion of the enemy's  armor and this will make your auto attacks hurt even more. Piercing Thoughts is useless for Vayne because she doesn't do any magic damage.

Keystone- Warlord's Bloodlust
With this build, you won't have any early sustain because of BORK being skipped so Warlord's is essential. It's a very good mastery because it gives you more sustain the less health you have, so it can save your life in very close calls. Get this if you want to be more safer in the early game.

Cunning Tree-
You will do an additional 5 damage to minions and so this will help you to last hit much better.

Secret Stash:
This makes your potions into Biscuits which makes your potions last 10% longer and restore 20 health and 10 mana on use. This is extremely helpful because you get more use out of you potions and you should be ready to heal up for the next fight.

Are you tired of the enemy being able to escape with a sliver of health? Well, this mastery should be able to help you. With this mastery you will deal 5% additional damage to enemies below 40% health and so this will help you to secure kills.

Dangerous Game:
This mastery is extremely helpful because kills and assists restore 5% of your missing health and mana. This should help you when you are in close call and should be able to save your life if you've been ignited.

Abilities Back to Top

Night Hunter- vaynepassive.png

Vayne gains 30 movement speed when moving towards a nearby visible enemy champion.

Final Hour.png FINAL HOUR: Night Hunter's bonus movement speed is tripled to 90.

Vayne's passive helps you to chase down enemies much easier. Combined with your tumble, no enemy should be able to escape from you.

Tip: You can check if an enemy is in the fog of war just by looking to see an increase in your movement speed. If needed, you can also use your ult to gain even more movement speed for chasing

ACTIVE: Vayne quickly rolls toward the cursor's location, causing her next basic attack within 6 seconds to deal bonus physical damage.

Tumble resets Vayne's autoattack timer.

Final Hour.png FINAL HOUR: Tumble stealths Vayne for 1 second on cast.

  • BONUS PHYSICAL DAMAGE: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70% AD

This ability is great for three things. One it is a great tool for dodging skillshots and repositioning in teamfights. Two it modifies your next auto attack. Three, when combined with your ult, gives you stealth for one second. A great reminder about this ability is that the cooldown resets when you auto a target so keep that in mind when you attempt to escape.

Tip: Your stealth only lasts for 1 second, so use that opportunity to reposition yourself or to juke the enemy.

Silver Bolts-vaynesilveredbolts.png

PASSIVE: Vayne's basic attacks and abilities mark her target with Silver Bolts for 3 seconds, stacking up to 3 times. The third stack consumes all Silver Bolts on the target to deal them true damage.

The percent health component is capped at 200 against monsters, and attacking a new enemy cleanses the previous target of all Silver Bolts.

  • tRUE DAMAGE: 4 / 6 / 8 / 10 / 12% of target's maximum health

This is what makes Vayne a terror. Silver Bolts is able to shred tanks with ease due to the true damage and does damage based on how much health they have.

Tip: Sometimes even the 2nd tick of silver bolts is enough for zoning the opponent because they wont want to take that extra damage from you.

ACTIVE: Vayne fires a heavy bolt at the target unit, dealing physical damage, Airborne icon knocking them back and applying Silver Bolts.png Silver Bolts.

If the target is knocked into a wall, they takes the same damage again and are Stun icon stunned for 1.5 seconds.

「 PHYSICAL DAMAGE: 50 / 90 / 120 / 155 / 190 (+ 50% bonus AD)

Vayne is also unique in that she has her own form of CC. Condemn can save her life as well as save the lives of either due to the 1.5 sec stun. Condemn also applies silver bolts which in turn can be used for safe trading albeit at the cost of mana. An AA, tumble, condemn combo would proc the silver bolts.

Tip: You can condemn enemy champions to champion made structures such as Anivia's wall, J4's ult, Azir's ult, and Trundle's Pillar of Ice.

Final Hour-vayneinquisition.png

ACTIVE: Vayne temporarily gains bonus attack damage, empowering Night Hunter.png Night Hunter and Tumble.png Tumble for the duration. While active, whenever a champion damaged by Vayne dies within 3 seconds, Final Hour's duration is extended by 4 seconds, up to a maximum of the original duration.

  • DURATION: 8 / 10 / 12
  • BONUS AD: 30 / 50 / 70 AD

This ability is what makes Vayne "dance" on the Fields of Justice. This ability, because of the extra AD, makes Vayne reach her midgame. It allows your tumble to be on stealth as well to reposition in fights and to juke your enemies.

Tip: The faster you kill your opponents, the longer your ult will be up! Longer ult= more damage and stealth.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

This is your first major powerspike. The BF Sword gives you a good amount of AD for the early game and the Shiv increases your damage potential because both your Q and Shiv can critically strike
This is the general ADC start

Core Items

These are your crit items. As of Patch 5.24, Rapid Fire Cannon and Statikk Shiv no longer stack damage together so you should get one of each and then build Phantom Dancer after.
Get this too for extra damage and lifetseal.
These are your new armor penetration items, which Last Whisper now builds into
This is your final build. Depending on the enemy team comp, you can switch out Mortal Reminder for Lord Dominik's, or you can switch out Bloodthirster for Mercurial Scimtar if the enemy team has a lot of CC

Situational Items

Get this if the enemy team has heavy cc such as WW and Malz ult, Morg snare, etc.
Its not bad to have an extra life on Vayne eh?
Very situational items. You take these if you need to stay alive much longer and the enemy team is focusing you.
3153.png Blade of the Ruined King
This item is like a gift from the gods for Vayne. It gives you 40% attack speed, +25 damage, and 10% lifesteal. The passive synergizes so well with Silver Bolts due to the fact the they deal damage based on how much health the enemy has. The active is so great on chasing because it deals 10% of target champion's maximum Health  as physical damage, heals for the same amount, and steals 25% of the target's Movement Speed for 3 seconds. The active is also good for creating space as well if you are trying to kite someone because it steals movement speed from the enemy. You want to build this item in 100% of your Vayne games.
3046.png Phantom Dancer
With the new and improved Phantom Dancer 2.0, this item is as equally important on Vayne as Blade of the Ruined King. It gives you 40% attack speed, 5% movement speed, 30% crit chance. With your BORK, Berserkers Greaves, and Phantom Dancer, you can get up to 1.79 AS by the mid game which is absolutely insane. You won't even have to worry about building anymore attack speed, just pure damage. The passive, Spectral Waltz, gives you +39 flat movement speed when within 500 units of a enemy champion this combined with Night Hunter, no one will be able to get away from you. The other passive, Lament, grants 12% damage reduction to the last enemy struck and ends after 10 seconds. This passive alone allows you to duel 1v1 with so much ease. You'll be able to kill them faster than they kill you.
3072.png VS 3031.png When to get each item
So, you have all your attack speed. Now you want to get your next items which will your damage. Usually, I prefer to get Infinity Edge because of how much it impacts your damage. It makes your crits do 250% additional damage to the enemy as well as giving you +65 AD and 20% crit. However, if I ever feel threatened by the enemy team and want to get more sustainability in teamfights, you should go with Bloodthirster. This combined with BORK will give you 30% lifesteal and will give you a shield when you are already at full health. In the end, it all comes down to whether you want more damage vs whether or not you want to survive more
3036.png and 3033.png Which do I get?
So, these items give the same stats-- +40 damage and 45% bonus armor penetration. However, the key difference between these items is the passive. With Lord Dominik's Regards, it grants up to +15% bonus physical damage against enemy champions with greater maximum health than you (+1.5% damage per 50 health difference, maxing at 500 health difference). You want to get this whenever you see the enemy team stacking health such as a Zac or a Sion. This combined with your Silver Bolts and BORK will ABSOLUTELY SHRED the enemy tanks. With Mortal Reminder, your autos apply Grievous Wounds, which is a debuff that reduces self-healing by 40%. Note the self-healing part. You want to get this item on people who have built-in sustain in their kit such as Darius, Volibear, and Dr. Mundo.
3140.png How early is it to get a QSS?
You want to get a QSS early on in the game if the enemy has team has a huge amount of CC. However, there are some games where getting QSS is a given, You ALWAYS want to get it when playing against Warwick, Fizz, Zed, Malzahar, Skarner, Morgana, or anyone that has a stun. As Vayne, you need to be alive as long as possible and having a QSS could mean the difference between life and death. I usually get my QSS after I get my BT or IE but it may be necessary to get it earlier if the enemy has champs that are snowballing and/or saving their CC just for you.

UPDATE-- Why the new build works:

Because of the recent changes to Vayne's Tumble, you are now able to critically strike with it. Because of this, it is much better to go with the BF Sword into Shiv because the additional damage will greatly help your early game and combined with your ult, will give you even more damage. Also, Tumble and Shiv can crit together, and this combined with your ult can really catch your opponent off guard because of the damage that you can cause.

As of 7.19, Vayne's Q no longer crits, but the build that is currently in place is still viable

UPDATE 3: Why 3302.png Relic Shield works?

You want to build Relic Shield on ADC's for a couple reasons. One, the unique passive, Bandit was moved to all support items so it'll help you gain more gold when you attack the opposing bot lane. Two, the heal you get when you execute a minion got buffed, and so that combined with Overheal and Fleet Footwork will help you to survive even more in lane. Three, when you complete the quest which is to earn 750 gold with the item, you are able to upgrade it into Targon's Brace which in turn will give you a shield. This shield is further augmented with Revitalize and the shield from Bloodthirster. The purpose of the Relic Shield start is to help the early game for scaling, hyper carry ADC's such as Vayne and help them to acquire their items much faster. It is also a safer alternative if the lane you are facing is very aggressive.

UPDATE 4:  3302.png No Longer Works

As of Patch 8.2, Relic Shield is not that great to start because they nerfed the healing to 50% on ranged champions and removed the shield you get from Targon's Brace so the Relic Shield line is purely just for supports

Matchups Back to Top

Click on a champion below to see the author's notes on that particular matchup.

  • Alistar
  • Annie
  • Ashe
  • Bard
  • Blitzcrank
  • Braum
  • Caitlyn
  • Draven
  • Ezreal
  • Graves
  • Janna
  • Jhin
  • Jinx
  • Kalista
  • Leona
  • Lucian
  • Nautilus
  • Sivir
  • Soraka
  • Thresh
  • Tristana
  • Twitch
  • Vayne
  • Xayah

The difficulty of laning against an Alistar depends on how well his ADC is able to follow up and how well your support is able to peel him off of you ASAP. JHowever, when Alistar uses his combo, he is a sitting duck because his abilites are on a relatively long cooldown and that gives you a good window of opportunity to engage. An extremely skilled Vayne player is able to vaynecondemn.png Alistar out of his combo so try to practice this in one of your games.

Annie is a hard matchup because of her insane burst potential and ability to start fights. Make sure you keep track of how many spells she has used and if she has a ring around her, that indicates she has her stun up

A personal favorite matchup for me. What I do is to wait for her W to be on cooldown and then just go ham on her. I advise getting a QSS against her because of her ult

I really hate playing against Bards. He is able to harass you pretty easily combined with his passive and if he gets good bardQ.png and bardR.png on you then you are pretty much dead. Just be cautious with your positioning, don't position next to walls and minions so he doesn't get his stun off.

When you get pulled by Blitz, it's usually a done deal , especially when he reaches 6 because he can just ult you and you can't flash or tumble away. Make sure you hug the minion wave to prevent from getting hooked.

Braum is such a pain to deal with in lane. You have to be very careful with your positioning in lane because one tick of his passive applied on you can be a death sentence. I recommend getting a QSS just in case. It's better to be safe than sorry when dealing with a Braum

Caitlyn imo is not that hard to deal with. There are many factors into whether or not you should play aggressive such as the supports and how much she harasses you in lane.

Draven outdamges you in the early game so it is really hard to trade with him in lane. In order to take him out, you have to coordinate with your support

Oh boy where to begin. You have a tumble to dodge his skillshots and you outscale in every aspect. If Ezreal ever E's into you, you should be getting easy money

Be careful when trying to trade with Graves. He has much higher burst then you early game with his Buckshot as well as his Collateral Damage. Make sure you don't him in his smokescreen as you will have no vision

Janna is a very annoying support to lane against. She shields her ally and that shield also provides attack damage equivalent to a  BF sword. I recommend for you to bait out the shield first before engaging.

Jhin is all about burst damage. He is able to beat you in the early game, but when you come to the late game, you will be able to completely destroy him. Be aware of how many shots he has left, and his cooldowns, so that way you are able to take advantage of it and trade with him in lane

Jinx is another hypercarry in the game and she can outrade you in terms of damage. She has strong aoe, slow and snare that you want to dodge. However she has no escapes so a support with strong engages should be able to take care of her with ease.

Kalista is an interesting matchup because she is able to create distance with her passive. However she suffers from all in champs and team comps and so you should take that into account. You outscale her in the late game and when combined with a BORK, she wont be able to hop away from you. If you are focusing the support, make sure that Kalista's ult is on CD so that she won't be able to save him

Leona is a tricky one. She has heavy CC, however, if you tumble backwards when she Zenith Blade's you, you create space between you and the enemy ADC so he wont be able to proc her passive and damage you.

This lane is so so. He does more damage than you early but as long as you dodge his Q with your tumble you should be fine. Be careful when in minions as his Q can go through them and hit you. Another tip is that when you try to trade with Lucian, auto him once then continue walking to the side. By the time his Q goes off, you are able to dodge it and you should win the trade because his Q is his main source of damage in lane

Nautilus is one of the hardest supports to play against, especially with Vayne. He can just hold onto his ult in teamfights just for you so you have to be patient and wait it out before going in

Sivir is a team fight oriented champion and so you should be able to beat her easily in lane. Vayne's damage comes from auto attacks and the only thing she can spell shield is your condemn. Just make sure to dodge her q and to bait out her spell shield before engaging

Soraka can be an easy lane depending on how well she positions. Good Sorakas know how to sit in the back and heal when necessary and it's important that you try to take her out ASAP so that she isn't able to heal her allies. The majority of the time, you want to try to focus her if the opportunity presents itself

Unless their Thresh is Madlife, this should be an ok lane because you can dodge his hook and his flay. Just make sure to keep moving so that you dont set yourself up as an easy target.

Tristana is an ok champion to lane against. Make sure that whenever she puts her explosive charge on you, you back off so that she doesnt put extra damage on you.

Twitch should be an easy matchup for you. You just have to dodge his flask so he doesnt put his stacks on you. When he is stealthed, you just need a pink ward.

This lane should be easy. You read my guide, now go stomp her!

Xayah is a bit tricky, because her kit allows her to disengage and if you aren't careful enough of her surprising damage, she will kill you. One thing I try not to do is fight her when her xayahe.png is still up because most of her burst damage comes from it. Also, be aware if where her feathers are placed. Try not to stand still when you take her head on, and try to move out of the range of her xayahe.png to avoid getting rooted/bursted.

Patch 7.19 Update Back to Top

As of Patch 7.19, Vayne's Tumble got buffed but can no longer critical strike. This is not necessarily a big nerf, but it does take away the effectiveness from the crit build. However, her Silver Bolts did get nerfed just a little bit as well so I will be testing what an optimal build would be. One thing I am excited for is a new mechanic to her ultimate." If a champion dies within 3 seconds of being damaged by Vayne, Final Hour’s duration is extended by 4 seconds. This cannot extend the remaining duration past the initial maximum duration."

Basically, if you get a kill, it extends Final Hour's duration for 4 seconds which is absolutely insane. More stealth + longer AD steroid = more outplay potential. I will try to update the guide to see if BF into Shiv is still a good build path to start with. Peace (:

Intro to Vayne Back to Top

Vayne67.png, "The Night Hunter", is a ranged champion in League of Legends. She is played in the bot lane as the ADC. She is known as a hypercarry, a champion that has the ability to carry a game with her massive attack speed, tons of damage, and outplay potential. She is an extremely strong duelist as well, being able to 1v1 almost anyone in the game. Vayne is unique from all the other ADC's because she is extremely mobile, has built-in stealth, and provides true damage. True damage contributes to Vayne's damage potential because it ignores armor and spell shields, allowing Vayne to shred even the most tankiest of tanks. However, every champion has their pros and cons. Vayne is currently is the only champion to have a defense rating of 1, which means she is is extremely susceptible to being killed easily. She also has one of the weakest early games in the game, something that opponents will take advantage of. With Vayne, you always want to play out until the lategame even if you are a behind, for this is where Vayne shows her potential.

Pros and Cons Back to Top

- Great with kiting
- Tumble allows you to reposition in fights
- Built-in stealth
- Silver Bolts acts as a good source of damage for tanks
- One of the only ADC's with a source of CC
- Has one of the best carrying capabilities of any ADC
- Strong outplay and dueling potential, able to 1v1 almost anyone
- Passive is good for chasing
-Insane Damage output
- Low defensive base stats, currently is the only champion with a defensive rating of 1
- You will be on the enemy team's most wanted list
- Pinks counter her stealth
- Needs items to get going
- Auto-attack based
- Weakest early game of the ADCS
- Short auto-attack leaves you vulnerable in close encounters

The 3 Keys to being a good ADC Back to Top

The 3 keys to being a good ADC are:

Because you are such a high value priority to the team and high value target for the enemy, you always want to look at where you are in teamfights. In lower elo games, players tend to be in the front of all the action, which in turn provides easy access to killing the ADC. As an ADC, you always want to be in the back of all the action, providing auto attacks to the closest enemy target. In general teamfight scenarios, you want to be in the back with the mid laner, followed by the support, jungle, and top laner in the front. That way, the frontline will be able to peel down the enemy, and provide a safety net for you and the mid lane carry.

Mechanics refer to how you are able to use your champion's abilities to best potential. With the ADC role, the general mechanics involved with them is kiting. Mastering your champion's mechanics can give you a significant edge over your opponent because you know what your champion can and can't do.

Decision Making

Should I go farm while my team is doing dragon? Push out a lane when the enemy team is pushing down mid as 5? A good ADC needs to know when to do and not do certain things. Sometimes the decision you think is right is not always the best. League of Legends is team game and it doesn't matter if you are extremely fed. You still need to work as a team.

Explaining the ADC Role Back to Top

ADC, which stands for "attack damage carry", is one of the roles in League of Legends. Their role in the team is to provide continuous damage to the enemy team. However, being an ADC has its drawbacks as well. One, the ADC will usually be the focus of the enemy team because of your high damage and DPS. Without you in the picture, the enemy will be able to engage without taking much damage. Two, ADC's are generally squishy, meaning that they suffer from low defense and health and are able to be taken down much more easier. Three, the ADC, out of all the other roles, have the weakest early games in the game. That is why ADC's take much longer to reach their power spike in the game than the other laners. You being alive or dead during fights can determine whether or not your team comes out on top. The longer you stay alive, the better the chances of your team winning.

What is kiting/orbwalking/stutterstepping and why do I need it? Back to Top

Kiting in League of Legends is the art of creating space between you and your enemy, by attacking him as well as moving away from him. Why do you need to kite you ask? Well long story short, it can save your life. ADC's in lower elo tend to have poor mechanics and kiting ability, something Vayne asks of.  They usually just stand there and auto and it is a wrong thing to do because you aren't getting the most out of your damage. When you move between your auto attack, this is known as orbwalking or stutterstepping. Essentially, you are canceling the animation of her auto attack which allows you to separate distance between you and your enemy. This is especially required for high attack speed champions such as Vayne because orbwalking allows you to maximize your damage potential by putting in as much auto attacks as you can. At the bottom of this guide, I will show you a neat trick on how to easily orbwalk and kite with the attack move click function, something that I have used to boost my orbwalking potential. (Note: the video does not belong to me and is used for educational purposes)

Supports that work with Vayne Back to Top

267.png Nami is really good with Vayne. She has sustain, a movement speed slow for you, and even cc and disengage for the enemy team. If the Nami can land a bubble near a wall, its a guaranteed condemn for you.
40.png Janna has all the good things Nami has. An extra added benefit is the shield and bonus AD she gives, which is really strong.
12.png Alistar sets up Vayne for condemn due to is WQ combo and he also has a heal for you as well. His ult is also great for tanking turrets when tower diving
412.png Thresh is a great all around support in that he has engage and disengage all in once. If you go too deep, he can just lantern you out and flay them. His ult has one of the strongest slows in the game to help you escape from ganks and other sticky situations.
89.png If you want to play really aggro in lane, Leo is one of your best options. She applies a debuff that procs when you auto to deal more damage. She has 2 stuns so it pretty much guarantees a kill.
16.png Soraka is a really great support with Vayne as well because she can just heal all the damage the enemies do to you. It really forces the enemy to focus her so you can just do free damage while the focus is on Soraka
201.png Braum is such a nice support for Vayne because of his passive. If he is able to land a Q on the enemy, you are able to proc his passive easily because of the slow and the power of your auto attack reset in your Q. When the enemy is stunned, it also sets up for your condemn which provides even more CC. On top of that, his shield can block all the damage from the enemy, which in turn, helps you take no damage at all.
26.png Surprisingly, Zilean is a good support with Vayne. You gain more XP when you are near him, provides constant harass with his bombs, can speed you up and slow down the enemy, and to top it all off he keeps you alive with his ultimate.

Last Hitting Tips with Vayne Back to Top

Last hitting creeps with Vayne can be tricky but can be made easy with these tips I give you. When last hitting, you should always keep your eyes busy and look which minions are taking the damage. Because of Vayne's auto attack reset in her q, it's easy to not miss minions with low health. Right after killing a minion, you could Q to last hit the next one. Keep in mind that Tumble has low mana cost so don't be afraid to use it when last hitting. You want to prioritize melee minions, especially when they get pushed to your tower. Early game, two tower shots to a cannon minion should be enough for you to last hit. Caster minions usually need an auto before a tower shot hits before you can last hit them so make sure to remember that. Cannon minions are a good way to last hit other minions as well because they can take the damage and you don't have to worry about missing it with your auto attack reset in your Q. On average, you should have at least 80 CS by 10 minutes. Remember, if you are struggling with last hitting, don't be afraid to practice in a custom game. When you get really good at last hitting, you have a huge advantage in lane. More CS= more gold= more items= more power.

UPDATE: Patch 5.20 reduces Vayne base damage from 53 to 50. With the runes and masteries in this guide, you should start with 71 AD instead of 74. I have yet to play on the current patch so I will be updating the last hitting portion of the guide if there are any changes.

Laning Phase Back to Top

Vayne's early game is the weakest thing about her. You should stick to farming and playing safe. You need to coordinate with your support to win trades. If your opponent is playing passive, you should try to trade with the enemy with a basic AA, Q combo. Depending on the matchup against Vayne, you may go aggressive but normally what you want to do is focus on getting your CS to get items. If your lane is more skillshot oriented you should max q. If there are lengthy engages, you should max w . IMO though it is best to max Q because you have the auto attack reset to put more damage in and you get to have a 2 second cooldown for your stealth when you ult. If you get a clean bot lane kill, you should coordinate with your jungle to secure dragon because there wont be any pressure to stop it. Make sure you have vision of the jungle before engaging as well to prevent the enemy team from ganking you. After taking your bot lane turret, you should rotate to the mid lane to help take it down and to share the power.

Tip: When you are about to recall to base and the enemy team is nowhere near, make sure you push the lane to their turret so that they lose XP and gold. By the time you get back to lane, their wave should be pushing towards yours so that you can either freeze the lane or catch up in XP.

Tip: Make sure you check for pink wards in the opponent's inventory as they might be saving that for your ult.

Mid Game Back to Top

By this time you should have your three core items: 3006.png3153.png3046.png

If you take the bot lane turret, you and your support should roam to the mid lane to help him secure the objective. If you win your lane, always try to help others lanes out so that you can secure objectives much faster such as dragons and turrets. Teamfights also usually start during this time and so what you want to focus on is positioning. You want to stay in the back of your frontline ALWAYS. Without you, your team has lost the DPS and essentially, will lose the fight so you want to wait before the enemy teams waste all their cc so they dont use it on you. Remember, POSITIONING IS KEY TO AN ADC. You always want to focus down the closest target so that you could get as much DPS in as possible. If they enemy frontline decides to engage on you, a good idea would be to ult Q backwards so that you enter stealth to create space for kiting. With your Blade of the Ruined King, Phantom Dancer, and Berserkers Greaves, you should be able to 1v1 almost anyone. Teamfighting is also a great chance to show off your mechanics and to amaze both your team and the enemy. You'll be leaving them in chat saying "OMG THIS VAYNE" and "GOSUUUU." Make sure you and your team secures dragon whenever it comes up as well as provide vision of the enemy.

Late Game Back to Top

Oh boy, if you ever get this far into the game, the enemy should quiver in fear for this is where Vayne truly shines. The enemy team will always focus you during this time and what I want to reiterate from the early game is this-- POSITIONING IS KEY. Sure, you may be full build and do tons of damage, but you wont be able to damage if you are already dead. I tend to see many Vayne players overestimate the capability of her power such as ult Qing into the entire enemy team  or even what players call "Vaynespotting". Remember League is a team game and its not just about you. You are a carry, and when you die the damage that you could do is gone. Coordinate with your team to peel for you and to make sure you position correct. You want to stay alive for as long as possible to provide your team with DPS. Depending on the enemy team comp, you should have a 3140.png or 3102.png handy to stop the CC from happening. You should also try to get Baron so that it'll be easier to push with your team. Sometimes, you are able to splitpush by yourself because of your damage and outplay potential. Vayne shines in 1v1 situations and can even 2v1 as well so don't be afraid to push for tier 2 or even tier 3 towers . Don't overestimate the power of Vayne as well because the enemy team can be holding on to some pink wards to counter your stealth or even send multiple opponents to stop you.

Advanced Techniques Back to Top

With over a 1000 Vayne games under my belt, I've learned things that a normal Vayne player wouldn't be able to pull off. I will be giving you examples of some of the things I've learned.

- Your condemn isn't just for stunning, it can be also used to interrupt dashes gap-closers such as Leblanc's W, Pantheon's W, Wukong's E, and Alistar's W. A well timed condemn can be used to reduce the amount of damage an opponent can do and in turn save your life.

- Another fancy way to use your condemn is to pull of the E-Flash combo. It's very similar to a Kick-Flash combo from Lee Sin and I will provide video of what it looks like. It happens so fast that the enemy almost has no time to react to it.

- Another way of how condemn has variety is that it can also secure kills. Condemn applies a proc of Silver Bolts so you can trade in lane like this but be wary, it has a heavy mana usage and so you shouldn't use it frequently.

- A good way to tell if an enemy is hiding in the brush is too see if your movement speed has changed due to your passive. The movement speed applies as long as you are facing an enemy champ, even if they are brushes.

- You can use your Q as an auto attack reset. Simply auto attack, then Q, and your auto should come out instantly.

- When 1v1ing, try to use your stealth erratically, especially against melee champs. When in stealth, try to go the opposite way so that you fool the enemy into creating more distance between you two.

About Me Back to Top

Hello I am EDOM3 and I am an avid Vayne player on the NA server. I have been playing Vayne ever since Season 4 and have fallen in love with her playstyle. I obtained the rank of Platinum 3 in Season 5 (got to Diamond 5 promos, lost them *sadface*), a huge improvement over being in Silver 2 last season and I have Vayne to thank for that.

Here are my stats for  Season 5:

I also recently started streaming on Twitch so you guys can watch me there if you want to see some Vayne
gameplay. Thanks!

FAQ Back to Top

Why should I go Vayne?

-Vayne is a high risk high reward champion. Out of all the ADC's, she has a difficulty of 8/10, shared with Draven. Her playstyle is much more different than all the other ADC's because of her carry potential and her ability to duel almost anyone in the game. With Vayne you are sacrificing early game damage output for late game carry potential. If you master her early game, then getting to the late game should be no problem.

When should I go Vayne?

- Generally you should go Vayne when the enemy team has little CC as it can harm Vayne alot during teamfights. You also want to look at your team comp as well because Vayne is a single target AD and thus if your whole team is single target, it wouldnt be great for the synergy.

Any tips for Vayne and the ADC role in general?

- Always look for your opponent's positioning in lane. If they are next to a wall, you should always look for the condemn. Don't forget that your q is an auto attack reset so you should AA then Q to get in more damage. Another tip is don't be afraid to try to make a play with Vayne! She is a very strong champ once she gets items and can 2v1 easily with good mechanics. You just have to be confident! One last tip for the ADC role in general and helps alot for Vayne is to bind attack move click to your left mouse button (
It really helps alot and here is a video explaining why it works
Who inspired you to play Vayne?

- Shout out to Hi Im Gosu! Ever since I watched his first Vayne montage, it kicked it off from there how much I love the champion.
Thanks for reading my guide and I hope it helps! -EDOM3
