Summoner Spells Back to Top

Introduction

Hello everyone! My name is MooseHater, but some know me as just Moose. I'm a fifteen-year-old Wukong main and have been for around three years now since when I started playing League back in Season 3. I easily have around 1 thousand plus Wukong games by this point and have peaked at around Masters 97 LP. I started out in Silver in Season 3 and shot to Diamond in Season 4, and I've been in Diamond before recently just hitting Masters now in Season 6. The idea of making a guide has been hovering around with me for a while, so I finally decided to create one with the bountiful excess time I have! This guide includes everything that you need to carry and succeed in your games.

Of course, like other guides, I encourage you to ask me questions! I'll be looking back here essentially daily to read and answer questions, so don't be afraid to shoot me one in the comments! :)

Wukong Summoner Spells

4.png14.png: These two Summoner Spells are usually the best summoners you can go. Flash can be used to engage a team fight, flash away, flash in range for an E, flashing a skill shot, the list is endless with what Flash can do. Always take Flash, no matter what. As for Ignite, it helps your all in and pressure in lane by a ton. I've got numerous First Bloods where if I did not have ignite, I wouldn't have gotten the kill, but ignite gives you that last bit of damage you need to finish a kill off.

4.png12.png: Although I love taking ignite on Wukong for the all in potential and pressure, Teleport in higher elos (Diamond 2+) is almost essential for top laners. However, if you're not Diamond 2+ I'd still recommend taking ignite just for the all in, as well as Teleport not being completely needed.

Masteries Back to Top

This is a pretty standard mastery page too. Wukong's mastery page should always be based around dealing the most damage to the person you're targeting, and Thunderlords is perfect for that. I've tried out Fervor plenty but I still think Thunderlords is better. Fervor helps in lane, but out of lane it's pretty useless compared to Thunderlords being useful in both. Plus, Thunderlords gives flat armor pen which is better against squishy targets, which are the people you should be focusing as Wukong.

Bandit is also a viable option too, it ends up giving you a lot of gold at the end of the lane if you're hitting your enemy frequently. Although, I still tend to take Dangerous Game because it's saved my life so many times, just from getting the extra 5% of your missing HP / Mana back.

Some people take the Attack Speed over the ability damage, but Wukong isn't based at all around having any sort of attack speed (besides his E) so the attack speed becomes sorta irrelevant after laning phase, as the ability damage is useful all around.

Skill Order: monkeykingspintowin.png -> monkeykingnimbus.png -> monkeykingdoubleattack.png -> monkeykingdecoy.png
When to max E: Every time.

You should always be maxing E on Wukong as it simply out-damages maxing Wukong's Q. It scales better, giving more attack speed per level, which in return helps with all-ins. There's never a match up you should ever max Q. Not even Darius, Renekton, or any match-up that you think that might be tough to Wukong.

You can start Q if you want to be more passive at level 1, and just poke with Q. Although, I still recommend taking E first as Wukong's level one all in against most match-ups is pretty good, and you'll most likely end up winning it even in their minion wave.

Obviously, you want to be putting points into your ultimate when you have the chance.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    You ALWAYS want to start Corrupting Potion. It's easily the best start for Wukong, giving him sustain, as well as some damage with the burn it gives.
    First back: 700g Double long swords | 750g Long sword + Dorans blade | 900g Double Dorans Blades | 1200g Tiamat OR 1225g Pickaxe + Longsword (TIAMAT GIVES MORE WAVE CONTROL, PICKAXE + LONGSWORD GIVES MORE DAMAGE.)

Core Items

    Rush Ravenous Hydra, get boots either after this, or your next item.
    Get this 2nd item if you're focusing backline. (Backline is doing most damage.) If not 2nd, get this 3rd.
    Get this 2nd item if you're focusing front line / tankier champions. (Front line is doing more damage than back line.) If not 2nd, get this 3rd.

Situational Items

    The items I generally finish my build with.
    These items are good when you're versing a heavy AP / AD team and are looking to get generally more tanky. See below on which to get.
    If you're very fed and carrying your team. See below.
    If you're versing a high armor team.
    Don't forget these when you're full build.
    If there is a Lissandra or a ton of hard CC.

Core Items

Ravenous Hydra, Youmuus, and Black Cleaver are Wukong's Core items. If you hit these items at a reasonable time, you'll be a monster in team fights. The three items give him everything you could want as Wukong. Wave control, flat armor penetration, % armor penetration, attack damage, movement speed for engaging, and much more! You always want to get these three items.

KEEP IN MIND! You can swap the Black Cleaver and Youmuus depending on the enemy team comp and who's fed. A good example of a time to go Black Cleaver first instead of Youmuus would be when the enemy team is: Mao, Amumu, Ekko, Ezreal, Braum. You can also go Black Cleaver first if you're peeling for your ADC since it shreds armor.

A lot of Wukong mains tend to rush Youmuus first item into Black Cleaver. Although that build gives more damage, I still love rushing Ravenous Hydra due to the amount of control it gives. Hydra essentially allows you to instantly shove waves whenever you want due to it's passive and active, giving you a ton of wave control.

Situational Items

The two items I regularly go are Deaths Dance and Maw of Malmortius. Deaths dance caps your CDR at 40%, makes you tankier with its bleed passive, gives life steal, attack damage, and is essentially an all around good item for Wukong. Maw of Malmortius is a great item too against late game APs since it gives Magic Resist and a nice shield passive. It also gives flat armor penetration and attack damage, which is always good!

When thinking about armor tank items, you should think about the enemy team comp and what your role is. If you're the one engaging fights, or maybe you're having problems not having enough movement speed to get to someone, Deadman's Plate is an amazing buy. Randuins omen is good against crit heavy teams (Yasuo, Tryndamere, ADC's that build 3+ crit items).

Generally, when I need to get Magic Resist, I'll just go Maw. But, if you need the extra health, Banshees is usually the better buy. However, Visage is still a viable option since if you don't go Deaths Dance, it can cap your CDR. Most of the time I don't go it since the passive is mostly wasted on Wukong compared to Banshee's passive.

If the enemy team has 3+ armor items on 2+ members and they have an Ezreal (iceborn ezreal) I'll sometimes go either a Mortal Reminder or Lord Dominik's Regard. Most of the time, I'll go Mortal Reminder, since it's better against ADC's (Grievous wounds cancels lifesteal) and people with any sort of healing (Vlad, Swain, Soraka, Mundo, etc). Lord Dominiks can also be though, if most of the enemy team has more HP than you, and you're looking for more damage against tanks.

Death's Dance is a really good item since it gives you the ability to heal with your ultimate. Although, due to the new Duskblade having essentially no CD, I still think that the new duskblade is better. Plus, the new Maw gives 10% CDR which means you'd be overstacking CDR if you went maw + DD. With GA, the item is pretty good in general since it's super cheap, gives armor + magic resist, and a really nice passive. Remember, these items are mostly only good if you're solo carrying / snowballing / very fed.

Suboptimal Items

  • Trinity Force - The only redeeming trait of trinity force is the sheen proc. EVERYTHING else, you can get from other items that is just better. It doesn't give enough AD to be useful, and I wouldn't even recommend going this when fed. When you're looking at buying items on Wukong, you want to be looking for: % Armor penetration, Attack Damage, flat armor penetration, and initiation ability.
  • Sunfire Cape - If you're looking to get a tank item, dead man's plate and randuins omen do the job way better than Sunfire Cape does, you also never want to go this first item!
  • Blade of the Ruined King - Another item that doesn't give enough AD. Also, Wukong isn't a champion that relies on auto-attacks, he's an AD caster, so this item is near useless on him.
  • Frozen Mallet - Doesn't give enough AD, if you want to get a tank item, you're better off going one of the ones above.
  • Warmogs - A worse Randuins Omen. This item isn't the WORST since you get innate Armor / Magic resist from your passive, but I still think that you're better off getting one of the armor or MR tank items.
  • Titanic Hydra - Ravenous Hydra is ALWAYS the better option. Never go Titanic unless you're a tank, which you shouldn't be building Wukong as anyways.

VS

Aatrox

Easy

AATROX WINS LEVELS: 1 - 5

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 6 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Aatrox is pretty easy since his counter is just getting bursted down. You should wait until you have your ult to do this, as if you get knocked up by his Q, you could be in trouble. Try not to trade with him early, as his lifesteal is insane. Avoid his 1 -3, I recommend taking decoy at level 2 to just avoid being all in'd at the early levels.

VS

Ahri

Medium

AHRI WINS LEVELS: N/A.

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: N/A.

EXPLANATION / TIPS: It's not that Ahri has a high kill chance on Wukong, it's more that she has really annoying poke and mobility with her R. Your best chance to kill her is pre-six, since she won't have the three dashes. Although, be careful as if you E on her, she has a free charm on you essentially. Try to get her to waste it before you go in. Besides that, watch out for her Q poke, this is another match-up where I'd consider getting an early pair of boots just to help with dodging.

VS

Akali

Medium

AKALI WINS LEVELS: N/A

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 1 - 5

EXPLANATION / TIPS: The best way to kill Akali is try to kill her before her first back / before she gets level six. After six, she actually gets a decent amount of burst, and if she has gunblade, she can most likely kill you with ignite if you waste your decoy.

Similar to the Gangplank match up, you want to sit in the bushes to avoid the Q spam from her. Once you get level 2 though, you can begin to play more aggressive as your trading is better in general.

A tip is that when you hit Akali with your Cyclone while she's in her akalismokebomb.png (W) it makes a sound, listen for it and you can hit her the entire duration with some good movement.

VS

Anivia

Medium

ANIVIA WINS LEVELS: 1 - 5

WUKONG WINS LEVEL: 6 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Happy feet. Another match up where you HAVE to dodge her Q. If you get hit by a Q early on, you'll get chunked for half your HP, her damage is insane early game. This is one of the only match-ups where I would recommend getting a Hexdrinker first item. She is immobile, so you can use this to your advantage.

Don't get baited into a bad dive when she has egg. If you don't get cheesed early levels and fall behind, you should be fine after six and may be able to get some kills.

VS

Aurelion Sol

Easy

AATROX WINS LEVELS:

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 1 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Aurelion Sol will most likely be looking to shove in the wave from levels 1-3, during this entire duration, you can basically just freely E onto him and trade with him, his W and Q are useless if you're just RIGHT ontop of him, be careful when you begin to run away from the trade though because Sol will try to land a Q followed by multiple W's.

VS

Azir

Medium

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 1 - 5

AZIR WINS LEVELS: N/A.

EXPLANATION / TIPS: This lane is mostly based off how skilled the Azir is. Although, you should be able to do very fine against him pre-six. Try to get your wave to freeze in the middle so you can get him to come from his tower. His only escape (E) is on a very long CD and he has to have a soldier down to use it.

Azir is a pretty easy match-up, but his poke is really annoying and killing him becomes VERY difficult after six especially if he has a defense summoner spell.

!!BE CAREFUL!! When you get near his tower as he can ult you into it and you're most likely dead unless you have flash.

VS

Darius

Medium

DARIUS WINS LEVELS: 1 - 3

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: N/A.

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Don't try to trade with him level 1, and try not to take any harass till level 3. Be careful of when he gets near level 2, as he'll probably try a cheesy pull on you.

Although, I actually find this lane to be pretty easy after level 3. AS LONG as you dodge his Q and do SHORT trades. (Proc TLD then leave.)

Bait out his Q (or go on the inside of his Q) then go in for your combo then leave. If he hooks you, decoy.

After six, this applies even more. You NEVER want him to get enough blood stacks on you to get a max damage ult. If you need to, ult to escape if he hooks you into a bad spot, it's always better than dying.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

MUNDO WINS LEVELS: 1 - 2

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 3 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS:  Mundo is a relatively easy lane. Harass him pre six constantly and you should be able to kill him. Be careful level 1 and 2 though, as his Q + E damage is actually quite a lot.

You can dodge his Q with your W.

Don't go into extended fights against his ult unless you have ignite or you can burst him down.

VS

Ekko

Medium

EKKO WINS LEVELS: 1 - 2

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 3 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Ekko's level 1 is pretty good since his passive does a decent damage as well as his Q doing a lot if both sides hit you.

Try to take as little damage as you can till level 3, then you can begin to fight him.

Once he gets two stacks on you with his passive, try to decoy to avoid him getting the last proc.

BE CAREFUL, when an Ekko walks into a lane brush or out of the lane, he's probably trying to get a W on you. When Ekko gets tanky and gets Iceborn, don't try to duel him. He's SUPER sticky and if you get into a bad spot you probably wont get away from him.

VS

Fiora

Medium

FIORA WINS LEVELS: N/A.

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: N/A.

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Another skill match-up. Winning trades against Fiora is based on you angling yourself so that she has to walk in awkward places to hit her passive.

All of Fiora's CDs are pretty long (If she doesn't hit her Q it's 10+ seconds she doesn't have it) so make sure to zone her or trade with her if she doesn't hit her Q, or if her E is down.

Remember that your W pushes you forward slightly, so you can use this to dodge her E. It hits everything in a straight line, so you'll have to W out of it through the side. She can E your ult knock up too, so be careful of that too.

VS

Fizz

Medium

FIZZ WINS LEVELS: N/A

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 1 - 5

EXPLANATION / TIPS: You win trades all before level 6, this is when you should try to kill him as he gets a lot harder to kill when he gets his ult. Remember that some Fizz players take ignite / tp, so if he does take ignite and you only have Tp, try to play more passive.

One he gets six, if you can dodge his R with your W, you can easily kill him, especially if he doesn't have flash.

If you do get hit by Fizz's ult, decoy RIGHT after you get knocked up and he starts auto'ing you. You want to try to waste as much of the extra % damage as possible. Don't be afraid to use your Cyclone to get away.

VS

Gangplank

Easy

GANGPLANK WINS LEVELS: 1 - 2

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 3 ->

EXPLAINATION / TIPS: Stay in the bushes level 1 - 2 as you don't want to poked down before level 3 by his parley.png. Do not try to all in him as his parley.png + his passive is quite a lot of damage early game, plus you'll be in his wave so you'll take even more damage. Once you get monkeykingdecoy.png and 2 levels in your monkeykingnimbus.png you'll out damage him, and he's super squishy so you can probably first blood if you catch him off guard.

Don't be afraid to monkeykingdoubleattack.png his raisemorale.png, as you'll be mostly out of the range and he can't hit you during such.

Watch and time Gangplank's parley.png, if you see him use it and he's zoning you with his raisemorale.png, his parley.png won't be up to proc his barrel, meaning that you can monkeykingnimbus.png on him, hit the barrel with your longer auto attack range, then win the trade from there.

Watch out for bushes he can try to cheese you with them from a bush.

VS

Garen

Easy

GAREN WINS LEVELS: TILL FIRST BACK

WUKONS WINS LEVELS: AFTER FIRST BACK

EXPLANATION / TIPS: The best time to fight Garen is after you get items. Try to never play aggressive towards Garen, let him come to you with his Q. If you wastes either of his main abilities (Q / E) trade with him.

Try not to tank a full duration of his E by decoying and juking or E'ing to a minion in the wave that will get you away from him. This is one of the only melee matchups I recommend MAYBE getting early boots.

If you decoy his Q, you can win the trade no matter what. If you're his nemesis, you probably can't fight him, as the true damage actually does quite a lot. Just try to play passive till it wears off.

VS

Gnar

Easy

GNAR WINS LEVELS: 1 - 2

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 3 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Allorim thinks that you can just all in Gnar at level 1 with E, but you really can't do that anymore, especially if Gnar takes fervor and Doran's blade.

You want to just try to farm up until level 3 then you should be able to out-trade him from there.

Depending on how many Q's you let Gnar hit you with, this lane could be easy or hard. Generally, I find Gnar's Q pretty easy to dodge, so this match-up is pretty simple for me.

VS

Graves

Medium

GRAVES WINS LEVELS: 1 - 2

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: N/A

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Graves's damage throughout the entire damage is pretty immense. Don't try to E on him level 1 or 2, since he'll probably do around 1/2 your HP with just 2 autos if all the pellets hit you.

Once you get level 3, you can start to play more aggressive, but continue to be careful.

Try to get an early tiamat, Graves is SUPER hard to deal with when he's at your tower since he can get free Q's on you.

Remember that minions block his autos, use this to your advantage.

VS

Illaoi

Medium

ILLAOI WINS LEVELS: N/A.

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: N/A.

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Happy feet. You NEED to dodge her skill shots, or you'll essentially get one shot. If she maxes illaoiE.png (E) and you get hit by it, you're going to lose more than 50% of your HP if she has enough levels on it. But if she's maxing E and she misses it, that could be a time for you to go all in.

Remember that your monkeykingdecoy.png (W) pushes you forward slightly and blocks skill shots. You can use this to dodge her illaoiQ.png (Q) or her E.

When she ults, make sure to keep moving. I recommend buying an early pair of boots in this match up.

If you get hit by her E, run out of the radius and just take the vessel. If you dodge all the tentacle hits while you're a vessel, you'll end up taking A LOT less damage than if you were to just sit there and let her tank it.

90% of Illaoi's damage is skill shots, so if you can dodge them, the lane becomes relatively easy.

VS

Irelia

Hard

IRELIA WINS LEVELS: 6 ->

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 1 - 5

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Irelia is one of my most hated match ups ever. The only way to kill her is to try to her kill before she gets Phage, because after that she just becomes too tanky. Trade as much as possible in the early game, she's squishier than you think. Be careful with how much damage you tank from minions when she stuns you though.

Try this against her:

monkeykingnimbus.png -> IMMEDIATELY monkeykingdecoy.png.

If she stuns your clone, all in her. Without her stun, she has essentially no escape. This will work 80% of the time the FIRST time you do it. She'll start learning the more you do it though. This works because most of Irelia's just immediately try to stun you as you E to her.

VS

Jax

Medium

JAX WINS LEVELS: 1 - 2

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 3 - 5

EXPLANATION / TIPS: At level 1, you generally don't want to try to trade with him as if he takes E and you E on him you'll either die or lose a ton of HP.

A lot of Jax's level 1 shove the wave, rushing level 2 then try to level 2 all in with Q + E. To try to counter this, I recommend taking decoy level 2 as well as paying attention to how many minions he has to know when he is going to hit 2.

When you see Jax use his E in trades, you want to instantly W and try to juke it. If Jax misses his E, you win the trade. However, as the game progresses and Jax gets triforce and other items, dodging his stun becomes more and more important.

VS

Jayce

Easy

JAYCE WINS LEVELS: 1 - 5

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 6 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Don't try to trade with him until you're level 3 / 4, but I recommend waiting till 6 if you just want to be safe.

Jayce is fairly easy since as long as you dodge his fast Q, you should be fine. After 6, he's pretty easy to kill. E + auto-attack + Q then start running away, if he tries to jump on you with hammer stance, all in him.

VS

Karthus

Easy
KARTHUS WINS LEVELS: N/A
WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 1 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS: From level 1 you can just continue to E onto him and kill him. He's one of the squishiest champions in the game and is also immobile, just juke his Q's which is mostly pretty easy to do and you'll do fine in the match-up.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

LEE SIN WINS LEVELS: 1 - 3

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 4 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS: I don't find this match-up to be as hard as people think it is. A VERY important thing to remember in this match-up is that you can block his Q with your W. Don't try to E on him level 1, because if you do that and he's out of your minion wave, he'll get a free Q on you and out trade you. After you get decoy, you can feel free to take trades on him as you please, but just make sure to try to dodge his Q if you're trading with him, as that's around 70% of his damage if he's maxing it.

VS

Malphite

Medium

MALPHITE WINS LEVELS: 1

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 2 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS: If Malphite starts corrupting, you might be able to kill him, if he starts cloth, your chances are a lot dimmer.

Try to poke him with the AOE from your E, AKA don't E onto him DIRECTLY. E on a minion near him and then retreat. You want to try to proc your TLD then leave since your TLD is going to be doing the most damage in your trades since it does Magic damage, not physical.

Most of the damage you take from Malphite isn't actually him but the minions, so be wary of how many minions you're tanking when you engage on him.

After six, you ALWAYS want to keep your lane warded as Malphite can set up ganks really well with his ultimate.

VS

Maokai

Medium

MAOKAI WINS LEVELS: 1 -

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 2 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS: I actually have only had troubles with this lane once or twice out of a couple of dozen of them. Level 1, you want to avoid as MUCH damage from his Q as possible, as it actually does a ton on a pretty low CD early game.

Level 2, you can start to do long trades with him E + auto + Q into auto attacks (chase him down) etc.

Keep your lane warded too, as junglers like to gank for Maokais since they have so much CC.

After first back, he'll get a lot tankier and have a lot more sustain but you can still kill him with a few successful trades and an all in with Cyclone.

VS

Nasus

Medium

NASUS WINS LEVELS: N/A.

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 1 - 5

EXPLANATION / TIPS: This match-up is all depended on how many stacks you deny from him. You SHOULD win 100% before level 6, but after that, it really depends on how many stacks he has.

You want to hold off on getting tiamat until you REALLY have to because you want to try to freeze the wave to get him to walk up to stack his Q.

Before the laning phase starts though, you want to be thinking either of these things:
  • You're going to try to snowball the lane with ignite, killing him pre-six then snowballing from there. (Hold off on tiamat.)
  • Or you're going to try to roam a lot with TP. (Rush tiamat, shove wave to tower, then look to make plays in top side enemy jungle, mid, or bot with TP.)

VS

Olaf

Hard

OLAF WINS LEVELS: 1 ->

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: N/A.

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Be VERY careful of Olaf's level 1. He can easily just all in you level 1 with his Q.

Take decoy level 2 so it's harder for him to kill you. Try to do anything in the lane to survive. Once you get level 4+ it'll be a lot easier, but you still won't be able to win trades.

If he kills you once, he can probably just snowball the match up and just dive you at your tower 100 to 0.

VS

Pantheon

Medium

PANTHEON WINS LEVELS: 1 - 5

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 6 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS: SURVIVE TILL LEVEL SIX. That's all you need to win this lane. As long as he's not a TON of gold / experience ahead of you at level six, you win at level six.

When you get six, back and get items and you want to trade with him once or twice, and as soon as you see the option to all in him, all in him. You DO NOT want to tank a ton of Q's before you all-in him, as he'll probably win that anyways since he gets 100% when you're low.

Be wary of when he is in lane. If he's level six + and isn't in lane, spam ping mid / bot and tell them Pantheon is MIA.

VS

Poppy

Medium

POPPY WINS LEVELS: 1 - 3

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: N/A.

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Poppy's damage is quite surprising compared to other tanks. Her level 1 is amazing due to her Q damage as well as her passive. At the beginning of the lane, you want to wait in the bush till she uses her passive on a minion. Don't bother trading with her level 1, as her Q damage is absurd if both the procs hit you.

You can use your Decoy to get out of her Q. (It pushes you forward.)

Her W can stop your E, if this happens, IMMEDIATELY disengage, as you'll use the trade after that no matter what.

Killing her is a chore since her ultimate is a free escape, although you can try to flash her ultimate if you have a good enough reaction time.

TL;DR play passive, you'll probably not win trades, but it's super hard for her to kill you.

VS

Quinn

Medium

QUINN WINS LEVELS: 1 - 5

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 6 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Try to all in her after six and you should be fine. Try to get all the CS you can until then. Don't try to E on her before that because she can just instantly E you then burst you down, especially if she goes armor pen Quinn.

If you time your ultimate correctly, you can knock her up as she vaults to you, wasting her gap closer as well as it working against her.

Remember that your decoy can block her Q.

VS

Riven

Medium
RIVEN WINS LEVELS: 1 - X
WUKONG WINS LEVELS: X

EXPLANATION / TIPS: There is no real definite level that wukong beats Riven. The  match up is mostly based around skill with the Riven having the potential to beat Wukong severely if she's good.

The way you should be playing is passive and then just letting her shove in the wave with Q, concentrate on last hitting and not getting ganked. You mostly NEVER want to be the one starting the trade unless it's just a simple quick Q. Try to make her waste her E (SHIELD) to gap close to you to trade, making her vulnerable.

If she is close enough to just straight Q to you, decoy and then wait for her shield to decay before then going back in to trade.

VS

Singed

Easy

SINGED WINS LEVELS: N/A.

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 1 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Pretty easy lane. You'll win almost every single trade as long as you don't follow him. Do your combo then leave, don't bother chasing to auto unless he's low enough to kill.

If he's proxying, try to back early to get AD since it will help a ton with last hitting under tower.

Don't stay in lane if you're low health after six since he's super fast and hard to escape if you're far from your tower.

VS

Tahm Kench

Hard

TAHM KENCH WINS LEVELS: 1 ->

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: N/A.

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Tahm Kench's extended trade is super good, but trying to go in for short trades is super risky since if he hits his Q on you, you're going to be SUPER slow, slow enough for him to get three autos on you to devour you.

Try to just play passive in this lane, ask for a jungler gank before first back as Tahm Kench has no real escape and if you get ahead early you can try to snowball the lane.

Remember that your W can block his Q.

VS

Talon

Easy

TALON WINS LEVELS: 1

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 2 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Don't let him spam his W on you and you'll be fine. If he's in range to W you, you're in range to E him, so just do it. All of your all-ins are stronger than his unless he gets ahead.

After six, consider buying a pink ward to place when he ults.

VS

Teemo

Medium

TEEMO WINS LEVELS: 1 - 5

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 6 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Another match-up where you'll be farming passive until level six. If you're feeling confident and feel like you can trade after around level 3+, feel free to.

After level six, be careful on where you're engaging, as if you E onto him when he's standing on a trap, you could get bursted down.

Depending on what the Teemo builds (so many different teemo builds holy shit) the lane can either be easy or hard.

Easy:
  • Full AP.
Hard:
  • Tanky with frozen mallet and ninja tabis.

VS

Trundle

Hard

TRUNDLE WINS LEVELS: 1 ->

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: N/A.

EXPLANATION / TIPS: Another match up where you NEED jungler pressure or for them to mess up bad. Only trade with your Q, never E in unless he starts chasing you and you're already in melee range. He simply out-trades you at all points of the game, Trundle is an anti-melee champion, so you need to try to just out-scale him. If you get him low enough and have ignite, you can try to all in him with ignite to stop his healing from his ult. If you have TP though, don't try to kill him when he still has his ult, he'll just heal and kill you.

VS

Vladimir

Easy

VLADIMIR WINS LEVELS: N/A.

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 1 ->

EXPLANATION / TIPS: At level 1, you can just all in him with E, chase him down with auto's. Just continue to E on him, you'll win almost every single trade.

Watch out for his empowered Q though, that thing hurts and you'll probably win the trade if he hits you with that.

Also, your DECOY can block his E.

VS

Yasuo

Medium

YASUO WINS LEVELS: 1 - 5, Yasuo PD ->

WUKONG WINS LEVELS: 6 - Yasuo PD.

EXPLAINATION / TIPS: Be very careful level 1 and 2. Don't even TRY to monkeykingnimbus.png on him level 1 / 2, cause you'll never win it. Even if you have ignite and he doesn't, Yasuo's level 1 / 2 is super good and if he cheeses you, you might be in trouble.

You win after first back, and you win the match up until then until he gets Phantom Dancer. Once he gets PD, don't try to 1v1 him anymore unless you get him low enough to where you can just one shot him.

Watch your power spikes, like when you get level 11 and hydra, and you should be able to beat him then.

If he goes tanky Yasuo (Like a Sunfire with tabis) don't try to fight him, because you're not going to be able to kill him.

VS

Zed

Easy

ZED WINS LEVELS: 1

WUKONG WINS LEVEL: 2 ->

EXPLAINATION / TIPS:  The match-up is mostly really easy due to Wukong winning 1v1 at basically every time during the laning phase. The only time you don't want to go all in on him would probably be level 1, since he most likely started long sword, and if you monkeykingnimbus.png into his minion wave and face tank a zedQ.png + a minion wave then he procs his passive, you'll most likely lose the 1v1.

Remember when he ults you, you can monkeykingdecoy.png or monkeykingspintowin.png, try to monkeykingdecoy.png unless he has a pink ward to see you when you're invisible.

He's also really squishy, so if he wastes his zedW.png, you can one shot him with ease.

Early Game / Laning Phase Back to Top

Early Game / Laning Phase

Depending on who you're versing as Wukong, you either want to be playing aggressive or playing passive Who to play passive / aggressive will be in the match ups. If you're looking to trade, your average trading combo should look like this:

monkeykingnimbus.png -> Auto-Attack -> monkeykingdoubleattack.png

A lot of people like to monkeykingdecoy.png after the combo preemptively, but you should ONLY decoy if your opponent attempts to trade / engage on you while you run away after your combo. If you waste your decoy on nothing, you're super vulnerable to ganks, getting all in'd, and just simply dying in general for a solid 15+ seconds, which is a lot of time you're going to be wasting on getting zoned while it's down. Wukong's trades aren't the BEST, and most of the trades you will win will be because of your decoy usage.

An even more optimal trading combo would be:

Auto-Attack -> monkeykingdoubleattack.png -> monkeykingnimbus.png

The armor shred from your Q makes your E do more damage, try to do this when you whenever you can.

if you're new to Wukong and still learning him, I recommend only trading after level 3, as if you mess up, you at least have some sort of disengage with your decoy. You want to be very careful with Wukong early game because dying early game (ESPECIALLY WITH IGNITE) can be a HUGE setback and can easily lose you the lane early on.

This applies so much, that you never should be afraid to 4.pngmonkeykingdecoy.png, or even monkeykingspintowin.png to get away from a gank. However, sometimes ganks can be good for Wukong, as his potential for 1v2 is quite high if one of the two of the enemies are squishy and/or low health. If you're going in 1v2, always remember to focus ONE person. You want to try to insta kill one of the two to make it 1v1 as quickly as possible.

Anyways, you should try to always have your lane warded, what I do to find out where the enemy jungler is on their first clear is to look at my own jungler and then depending on who the enemy jungler is and where they started, I'll estimate what camp they're at and when I need to place a ward. Also, when you recall, if you have enough money, you should always be spending it on a pink ward.

Middle Game Back to Top

Middle-Game / Team fights

Middle game is the part where Wukong is the most strong. At this point of the game you should have either one or two of your core items and have level two ultimate.

Building Wukong as I do, means you're building him as an assassin, which means you're going to play him like one. Although, unlike some other assassins, you can not only look for picks, but you can also look for chances to get 5 man ults and AOE the HECK out of the enemy team.

If you have your hydra at this point, you can erase their APC/ADC with ease if they have no armor. This is what you should ALWAYS be looking to do in team-fights. You should always be looking for their ADC/APC when they're alone and chances to kill them at any point of the game.

The easiest way to kill their APC/ADC is to monkeykingdecoy.png in a bush then monkeykingnimbus.png -> Auto-Attack -> monkeykingdoubleattack.png -> HYDRA -> monkeykingspintowin.png. That combo should be enough to kill any squishy on their team, especially once you get Youmuus.

Just like in laning phase, you always want to be looking to do the:

Auto-Attack -> monkeykingdoubleattack.png -> monkeykingnimbus.png -> HYDRA -> monkeykingspintowin.png

Instead, since the Q shreds armor for your E to do more damage. If you're fed enough, you can probably just one shot them without the cyclone at the end of that combo.

Things to keep in mind when you're team-fighting in mid game is to always keep an eye on what summoners are up. If you go in on a 222.png when their Leona with 3.png is right next to her, you're going to exhausted and killed very quickly. You want to try to go in at the middle or end of the fight, when the enemies have already blown all their CD's on your team-mates. Try to only fight when you have flash too, you don't NEED flash to fight, but you should try to influence your team-mates to only fight when you have it, due to it being very useful for Wukong to engage, escape, or chase down other people that had flashed.

Middle-Game / Splitpushing

If the enemies comp simply has a better team fighting ability, Wukong's split push is also not that bad. His E gives him quite a lot of attack speed and his Q is an auto-attack reset and applies to towers. With hydra, you can also almost instantly clear waves. If your team is having trouble with team fighting, consider trying to split for a bit to farm up.

Some things to keep in mind:
  • Keep the side of the map that you're split pushing on warded.
  • Use your hydra active to wave clear.
  • Always look at the map when splitting, try to keep track where the enemies are at all times.
  • Do NOT blame your team-mates if they send 2 top, kill you, and your team-mates don't get anything. A lot of times there is nothing TO get since waves aren't pushed, dragon isn't up, etc.

Late Game Back to Top

Late Game

The further you get into the game as Wukong, the more difficult it becomes for you to assassinate, but you still want to try, as your role as an assassin stays. However, depending on how good you think your ADC/APC is, you can decide to peel if their 121.png / 238.png is going on them and killing them, as not only will you be taking out a member of the enemy team, you'll be saving one of yours. Plus, peeling tends to be easier anyways, as you're not diving into the enemy team and there is a lower chance you'll get exhausted.

Just like mid game, you want to be looking for when their APC / ADC (ADC is most likely easier to kill due to most APC's building Zhonyas, but think of which one of them is easier to kill) is alone. Always keep an eye on where their support is in a team-fight in late game, as they can easily exhaust you can you can just get one shot, meaning you're basically useless in that team-fight.

Late game, your Auto-Attack -> monkeykingdoubleattack.png -> monkeykingnimbus.png -> Hydra -> monkeykingspintowin.png will kill any ADC or APC that doesn't have a ton of armor. Even without the Cyclone, you can probably still one hit them.

You should still be looking to engage with your monkeykingdecoy.png from bushes, too.

Ability Tips and Tricks Back to Top

(Q) Crushing Blow

  • Resets your auto-attack timer.
  • Has a longer range than the normal auto, meaning that you can auto over some small walls.
  • Animation can be cancelled with a well-timed E.

(W) Decoy

  • Can block skill shots.
  • Pushes you forward slightly, meaning you can through small walls. (EX: Jarvan IV's ultimate.)
  • Great for ganks / engaging.
  • Can be used to tank minions / monsters. (Good for tanking Herald or tanking wave to freeze lane.)
  • Can tank the tower when timed correctly. (Decoy as SOON as the last tower shot is shot.)
  • Looks exactly like pressing the button 'S'. (Meaning you can juke people pretty hard with this.)

(E) Nimbus Strike

  • Can be used to block skill shots in very rare cases. (Your E throws out clones that can block skill shots.)
  • Can cancel Wukong's Q animation if well timed.
  • Gives you attack speed, use this on nearby minions to increase how quickly you kill towers.

(R) Cyclone

  • Stacks black cleaver pretty quickly.
  • Grants more and more movement speed as it continues.

Here's a great video by "League Quick Tricks" who displays a few of these very well!:
