Masteries Back to Top

FEROCITY

127.jpg
6114.png - You already run a lot of attack speed in Runes and don't require the extra amount you can get from Fury, and the extra damage you get from all abilities from Sorcery is simply more burst.
6121.png - More burst, Xin's combo will always get you an auto attack on an enemy, and on a 6 second cooldown can be proc'd multiple times during a fight.
6134.png - More damage, and scales per level.
6142.png - Deal more damage take more damage, since Xin Zhao is very execution based and fights will happen very quickly its better to deal more damage instantly rather than taking battle trance, you can avoid a lot of damage with Xin's ULT, the extra damage you take isn't that impactful, but the extra damage you deal is.
6151.png - % Armor pen so you can still deal damage to tanks without Armor pen.
6162.png - You full stack Fervor with a 3 auto combo which is how most fights will start out, any auto attack after that will do considerably more damage, bonus AD will also enhance Xin's abilities damage.

CUNNING

127.jpg
6312.png - Clear camps much, much faster.
6323.png - Deal more damage in 1v1s
6331.png - Deal more damage to targets below 40% health, great to finish off targets with consistency.
6341.png - Speeds up jungle camp clear time, and deals more damage when fighting around bushes in lanes or in the jungle.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

Situational Items

Starting items:

1041.png is easily more valuable than 1039.png on Xin Zhao simply because you auto attack a TON vs casting abilities.
2031.png Way better than starting 3 Health pots 2003.png with refillable potion 2031.png you get 2 stacks every time you recall, and later in the game can sell it for 60g, valuable in many many ways when used properly.
3340.png Vision can be used offensively and defensively.

Example Full Build

1412.png3111.png3078.png3053.png3742.png3065.png

It would be rare for you to even get past building Steraks since this is a very expensive build path for Xin Zhao you have a lot of options with his build with items past his core of Warrior and options of boots (1412.png3111.png3047.png3009.png3117.png)
The 2nd item you decide to build into will often take a while to ge and the build path into it needs to have some value if you want to fight during that time, or you can say adapt to a slower game and build into say a 3124.png and not attempt or all in plays as much until completing it then once completed capitalizing on the power spike of having it by catch enemies in side lanes.

Over all you want to build based on how much gold you think you are going to get past the early game, if your team is losing you should try building cheap tank items such as 3083.png3190.png (Cost: 5,050G) if you have to completely conceded your jungle to the enemies, rather than raging your way through a game trying to complete a 3078.png3053.png(Cost: 6933G)

Xin Zhao benefits from items that give him damage, tankiness, and utility such as (3078.png3053.png3742.png3748.png3074.png3143.png3071.png

    Easy
  • Gragas
    Easy
  • Nidalee
    Medium
  • Rek'Sai
    Hard
  • Sejuani
    Hard

VS

Dr. Mundo

Hard

Mundo kicks Xin's ass early, don't run into him, avoid him and farm the jungle and try to take objectives and his camps when he ganks.

Try building 3047.png 3124.png 3123.png then fighting him.

VS

Evelynn

Easy

Evelynn needs a lot of setup, and if you catch her alone you destroy and she can't do much except ULT evelynnr.png away. When she ULTs don't chase her, make a play somewhere else her ULT is a long cooldown and getting it alone is a huge win.

VS

Gragas

Easy

Xin Zhao shred Gragas, and deals with his CC well especially since your ULT can dodge out a bunch of damage from Gragas and his team.

Early game you out pace him in jungle clear and can be in position to counter gank him after clearing 3 camps.

Any time you catch him out in the river as well you can chunk him, but don't spend all day chasing him into the jungle when you are on cooldown.

VS

Nidalee

Medium

Nidalee can clear her jungle extremely quickly, and look to invade you, if you expect this and wit for her you will have the advantage, but if she catches you on a camp and hits you with a spear you can only really xinzhaoe.png to slow her and run away, or try to fight which won't go your way likely.

VS

Rek'Sai

Hard

Reksai does a ton of damage, and can run away and chase champions with his E Tunnel. You can beat reksai if he goes on another ally champion you can damage him during that time.

Definitely build 3047.png

VS

Sejuani

Hard

Sejuani also farms the first clear and most of the early game, the nerfs in patch 7.21 helps a lot in your effort to beat her, if it is your job to kill her based on your team's team comp than build a 3124.png & 3111.png She can often put herself out there alone during team fights, and if you ULT the enemies can damage you while you focus her down.

Early Game Back to Top

Early Game Xin Zhao's first clear you have the option to

  • Red Buff > Level 2 gank mid
  • 3 Camp (Buff > Wolves / Raptors > Buff >) Gank / Counter Gank top or bot lane.
  • Full Clear > Recall > Gank
  • Clear 3 Camps on one side of your jungle > Recall > Buy 1039.png > Clear 2 camps on the enemies side of the jungle > then clear 3 camps on the opposite side of the jungle which you started > first 2 camps that have respawned in your side of the jungle.
Jungle path can and will change every game depending on how the game is being played by you, the enemy jungler, and the enemy laners. Adapanding and reacting to situations that arise during the early game is key to making an impact as a jungler and gaining leads than can push the game further and further in your favor.

Your F keys ( F1, F2, F3, etc) all hover over your allied champions, using them while you are clearing jungle camps let you get a quick glance at what your teammates are doing in their lanes and how the lane is going, when you take a glance at the lane consider these things
  • Ally Health & Mana
  • Enemy Health & Mana
  • Minion wave position
  • Future Minion wave position
  • What level the enemy is
  • What level your ally is
Als reading the movement and getting a feel for how the enemy and your ally are acting in the lane is a nuancy that takes time, practice and a lot of studying to get a feel for but gives you huge reads on their potential and likely actions.

Mid Game Back to Top

Mid Game you should have a completed Warrior 1412.png and tier 2 boots ( 3117.png3047.png3009.png3111.png

Listed in "Items" you can see when and what to choose for your 2nd item and into a full build path.

Depending on your build path your playstyle may have to change, and also depending on how the game is going you will have to adjust your play. Sometimes you have big leads that you can push and kill enemies and win fights with, sometimes you have a lead but your team doesn't and you have to play somewhere in the middle.

Biggest mistake a low elo Xin Zhao will make is trying to fight in incorrect positions of the game, it's not your job to throw yourself into 5 champions every time that present themselves to you or your team. Having a mind for taking good fights and avoiding bad ones will drastically improve how well you do on Xin Zhao.

A basic example of avoiding bad fights is being in a side lane a minute or 2 in advance to a basic enemy ARAM run down mid lane for a 5 man siege, pinging your team back multiple, multiple, like a ton of times. and farming 2-3 waves and taking / damaging a tower and recalling, this will give you some gold and is a lot more productive than AFK under tower with your team and watching a tower go down.

With good positioning in fights you can single out a key enemy carry, while their team will spend many abilities on you trying to save their carry, and you can block a lot of it with Xin Zhao's ULT xinzhaor.png blocking damage.

Take good fights and continue farming.

Late Game Back to Top

Late Game effectiveness will vary wildly on your items so be mindful and try to generate as much income as possible beforehand.

Late game Xin Zhao can win fights, and excel and get great value from split pushing, in the jungle role it's always your job to be apply your presence on the map one way or another, so make this happen with a fight,  a split push, catching enemies out, setting up in the fog of war. Play the game of League of Legends not just your champion.

When approaching fights Xin Zhao still benefits from singling out targets on the enemy team, but if they have a huge front line of 1 - 2 you can use your ULT to negate damage from their backline while dealing with their front line, when your ULT wears off, you have to reconsider your position to avoid damage from the enemy carries, or to dive onto them.

Working with your team regardless if you are fighting with them, or splitting pinging and playing around how not only the enemy team is playing / moving around the map, but reacting to your team as well will give you better coordination and higher percentage of successful play.
