Summoner Spells Back to Top

Good Summoners (in order of best to worst)

4.png - by far the most important Summoner Skill to have. It can be used offensively in a Passive + 14.png combination to secure a kill in the early lane phase. It can be used defensively to escape ganks, tanks, and any bad situation that comes along.

14.png - This is my favorite secondary Summoner to have in soloque. Although this is a "late game"  guide, it is important to have some early game kill pressure to help snowball (heh) you into a lead. If you can secure at least one lane kill and obtain a minor item lead, you will have to actually try to die to a tank and not gain a significant advantage since I don't rush Morellonomican and instead rush Catalyst.

7.png - Since Ziggs is a high damage poke champion, defensive Summoners work well on him to help him survive large burst and initiation characters. This is the safest of all the defensive summoners, especially when playing vs Yasuo, one of Ziggs hardest counters. I'll touch on how later in the guide

21.png - Similar reasoning to heal, except generally considered weaker as there is no move speed buff.

OK Summoners

3.png - Helpful anti-burst spell, but I rarely run it because it is much less consistently helpful than 7.png or 21.png. By this I mean that if your laning against a zed or leblanc, 7.png 21.png and3.png all accomplish the same task in lane. However, once your in late game, you might not be in range of their 51.png or 76.png to use exhaust, and 21.png or7.png would still be relevant. And the item build I run is already enough to survive late game burst from assassins.

12.png - This can be helpful if your being completely outlaned and need to back and get pots/heal and get back to lane before losing cs...but this is planning for failure. Never do that. And global pressure is already secred in your ultimate so it might be better to run 14.png or7.png to make sure your laning phase goes smoothly.

Bad Summoners

11.png - Do I even need to talk about this?

6.png - You already have a global ultimate, a gap closer, and crowd control, there's no need to run this summoner. Go 7.png instead and get some health with your movespeed buff.

Masteries Back to Top

When choosing masteries, just think "how could I deal as much damage as possible if I theoretically was able to to land all my abilities at a distance without taking damage." While unrealistic when considering other champions, Ziggs has all ranged abilities, with zoning and global capabilities. If you play him correctly you should be able to land quite a few skills without taking damage. I also decided to run thunderlords because its ease of activation with Ziggs E. You can also easily proc Thunderlords in lane by basic attacking the enemy and throwing a Q in.

Priority Leveling

R - Its your ultimate and it's base damage is absurd. Always level when possible
Q - Main damage, always max this for the damage and CDR
E - Secondary damage/zoning. You will want this up as often as it can be.
W - Your only escape as well as easy to land crowd control. Do not level because it shouldnt be used in your normal combo except when finishing a kill or escaping. Some think it is better to level because the execute scales  25 / 27.5 / 30 / 32.5 / 35%. Don't fall for this. It may seem tempting but t is much more important to have a higher damage minefield with better slows to combo into your kiting and damage.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

Situational Items

Starting

- Dorans for mana regen, health and early AP. Pots for regen.

Core

- The Rod of Ages choice is what sets this guide apart from other Ziggs guides. The reason I think rushing ROA instead of Morellonimicon is simple, it solves two of Zigg's biggest problems in a better way than Morellos can. Survivability and mana are these problems and ROA gives high health, equivalent AP, and a higher mana pool as well as the Catalyst passive. This creates one porblem though, and that is CDR. That is why running scaling CDR glyphs and quints is ESSENTIAL to this build.

- Luden's Echo is perfect for Ziggs as an AP poke champion. It allows your missed Q's to still land a little bit of damage if you hit minions, it pops on your ulti adding a extra damage long range, and just overall increases your AOE damage. I take it second because the base damage from Luden's passive is high early and the scaling is low so it is best to rush early.

- Rabadon's Deathcap is perfect on Ziggs because of his high AP ratio scaling skillset. I grab this 3rd because enough AP has been built up from your other items to make it's passive efficient.

- Void Staff and Lich Bane I play by ear. You should take Void first if they are beginning to build magic resist and you need the pen, but if they are not then you MUST grab Lich Bane first. It increases your insane on turret damage as well as adding much more non-skillshot damage to your kit.

- Sorcerer's Boots I usually take in between Rabadon's and Luden's. There aren't really any other good boot choices for Ziggs.

Situational

- I put Guardian Angel down because if an enemy assassin is truly out of control, it may be better than a Zhonyas which you have to be able to activate

- Hextech GLP-800 is an alternate choice to ROA if you'd rather have an easy active to land and help intitate your combo. Not my favorite but it can work if you need kiting ability.

- Zhonyas is a pretty helpful defensive item, I include it as an alternative because its a crutch that a good Ziggs should NOT need. If you get into the situation where you'd need to activate it, more often than not you will still die. Don't get in situations where you would need this.

General Mechanics Back to Top

Lane Winning Tips

- Trade when they are going to CS (make them choose)
- Hold skillshots "over their head"
- Take advantage of cooldowns
- When possible, hit enemy as they are minion blocked (easier skillshots)
- Never overextend past midlane unless you are well warded or see jungler elsewhere
- Either PUSH or FOLLOW when your enemy laner roams. Freezing at this time is worthless
- Force trades when you have equivalent items but higher level
- Always use minion advantage when possible to win trades
- If you have a massive wave under their turret early game, walk up and basic the turret. Minions will outdamage the enemy

Teamfight Winning Tips

- Always position behind your tanks if they have heavy initiate or fed assassins
- Poke the nearest tank unless you are in a situation where it is safe to poke the carries
- ALWAYS hold on to your escapes and use them to mitigate enemy initiation
- Look to not only damage enemies, but to protect your fellow carry

Ziggs Mechanics/Tips Back to Top

Passive

- Your abilities reduce its cooldown by 5 seconds, so alway basic in and out of your combo.

- Force your passive to be up more by spamming Q and E when trying to put down turret damage. Combine this with satchel to get first tower easily.

- Flash + Ignite + Passive are super good for executing enemies early game. Nobody expects the non-skillshot damage

Q

- The explosion radius is larger than the hit box, AKA it is harder to land but once it does it hits more than it looks like it could. Use this to your advantage by hitting motionless minions near to the enemy laner so that they do not have the chance to dodge.

- It is easy to proc thunderlords by throwing a basic, Q then basic again. Sometimes throw your q first then basic 2 times or basic two times then throw your q to keep them guessing on when the bomb will be coming

- Once you have 3285.png you can use your Q to check bushes. See if the Ludens echo buff leaves when you toss your Q in and if it does then an enemy is there. Another way to check is to see if your bomb explodes on its first or second bounce, meaning it has hit something.

W

- If trying to escape with this, try to use it when the enemy is almost on top of your character, then throw it below you so it sends him flying one way and you flying the other giving him absolutely no chance of continuing pursuit.

- If a enemy jumps on you near your turret and you feel confident in the outplay, satchel so that you both fly under your own turret, then toss the rest of your combo on them while they take turret hits.

- When using this offensively in a combination, toss your E or R first then satchel them into your other spells cast area.

- To help land your Q, toss this ability first then immediately toss Q to where they will land. They are stunned for a quarter second so it will hit them with much less of a chance of them dodging. I reccommend using this to finish kills.

- You may cast other spells while blasting yourself away with satchel, so make sure to get some fadeaway bombs!

- Execute turrets!

E

- Use it to zone enemies, by either placing it behind them in combos to prevent retreat or force damage, or use it to block off key passages of the jungle while you take objectives like dragon

- Use in combination with your Q to kill back line minions and waveclear like crazy

- When trying to stop a huge enemy push, throw these behind you in the lane and get their cooldown started, because the lane minions will walk over them and you will have it back up to help clear more faster

R

- Use it to give pressure to top and bot during the mid game, throw a ping down and toss it at their laners.

- Save turrets with this by killing minions from afar and forcing the enemies to back off

- Run blue trinket late game with this to help find recalling/retreating low enemies

- In teamfights ult their back line when your front line goes in then kite the tanks and assassins
