Summoner Spells Back to Top

Sum.jpg

Flash/Ghost

(Recommended)

4.png6.png is probably the combination of summoner spells that I use the most often. Flash is the best summoner spell in the game as it allows you to escape tricky situations and also provides offensive pressure as well. Ghost is extremely useful on Zoe as it provides her with another escape option and allows her to kite as well as making it easier to land abilities thanks to the extra movespeed you gain. This combination of summoner spells is good in just about every situation.

Flash/Ignite

(Offensive)

4.png14.pngprovides a lot more offensive pressure for Zoe in lane. Ignite can be used to pick up surprisingly early kills in lane and can deal a lot of damage when stacked with the damage from her W, spell thief. Take this combination if you're against a weak enemy laner you can punish early in lane (e.g. Karthus, Anivia).

Flash/Teleport

(Passive vs. Passive Enemy Laner)

4.png12.pngis the more passive combination of summoner spells in lane, but allows you to influence other lanes with your teleport. Take teleport when you know that you will be in a passive lane phase but will likely look to roam and gank other lanes (e.g. Ziggs, Xerath).

Flash/Barrier

(Passive vs. Aggressive Enemy Laner)

4.png21.png can be used against aggressive enemy laners with lots of burst. Take barrier against champions such as Zed or LeBlanc.

Flash/Cleanse

(Enemy has Chain CC)

4.png1.png is used against enemy team comps with lots of crowd control (CC). Take cleanse when the enemy team has champions which can chain CC you such as Elise, Twisted Fate, Ashe, etc.

New Runes Back to Top

A brief disclaimer: Optimal rune choices are likely to vary by game!

HmjN3Du.png

ycVJ8Y6.png
Keystone: Sorcery
(Empowered Abilities and Resource Manipulation)

Keystone: Arcane Comet: Summon Aery is also ok here, but arcane comet provides more burst damage and can be especially strong when used together with the sleep mechanic from her E.

Rune 1: Nullifying Orb: Good for survivability, its a mini hexdrinker (about 1/3rd effective). Zoe doesn't suffer from mana problems, but you may need to take manaflow band in order to get used to her mana costs if you find yourself always running out of mana like Phreak. Ultimate hat isn't very good on Zoe.

Rune 2: Transcendence: Absolute focus is also ok here if you think that you won't get poked or drop below 70% hp very often. I like transcendence due as the extra cooldown reduction (CDR) really helps Zoe spam abilities.

Rune 3: Gathering Storm: Gathering storm helps Zoe scale much better into the mid and late game. Her AP ratios are pretty good too, which is why I take gathering storm over scorch. Waterwalking is pretty useless when compared to the other available options.

Secondary Path: Domination
(Stat Gain on Champion Takedown)

Rune 1: Eyeball Collection: Extra AP on Zoe is always good. Not much else to say here.

Rune 2: Ravenous Hunter: Having some spell vamp on Zoe is always helpful. Again, the secondary pathway is pretty optional so no much else to say here.

Other options: Cheap Shot, Taste of Blood, Sudden Impact, Zombie Ward, Ghost Poro.

In-Depth Ability Analysis:

Passive: More Sparkles! zoepassive.png

zoepassive.jpg

After casting a spell, Zoe's next basic attack deals bonus magic damage.

Simple, standard passive. Weave in your auto-attacks in between abilities to maximize damage output. Only thing to note here is that you shouldn't always look to weave in autos; only do so when safe.

Standard combo is Q > AA > Q > AA > E > AA or any frameshift of that variation (like beginning with E first)

GUORR28.png

Q: Paddle Star zoeq.png

Q.png

Fire a missile that deals increasing damage the further it travels. Recast to redirect the missile to a new position near Zoe.

Zoe's "bread and butter" spell. Use it to poke opponents, clear minion waves, and try to maximize range whenever possible. To make the most use out of this spell, you will have to learn to fire it forwards, sideways, or backwards given the situation.

Combine it with your passive in a Q > AA > Q > AA combo to deal a lot of damage, even at level 1!

GUORR28.png

W: Spell Thief zoew.png

W.png

Enemy Summoner Spell and Active Item casts drop spell shards. Minions may also drop a spell shard.

Active: Collecting a spell shard grants one cast of that spell.

When Zoe casts a Summoner Spell or Spell Thief, she gains bonus movement speed and tosses up to 3 missiles at her attack target.

Super useful semi-RNG based ability. Usefulness varies depending on each situation, but usually you want to have one cast of any spell available for the bonus movespeed and damage it provides. Can be abused hard in the early laning phase as well as during teamfights where summoners are popped left and right.

Here are a few examples of abusing W correctly:

GUORR28.png

E: Sleepy Trouble Bubble zoee.png

zoee.jpg

Dropkick a bubble that deals magic damage, lingering as a trap if it hits nothing. The bubble's range is extended when flying over a wall.

After a delay, the victim falls asleep for 2 seconds. Attacks and spell hits break sleep but deal double damage. When an enemy falls asleep, Sleepy Trouble Bubble's cooldown is reduced.

Holy cow this ability is strong. Ideally you want to abuse the sleep mechanic as much as possible - Don't break sleep when you have the chance to get more damage in from minions or if you're waiting for teammates, and try to get the bonus true damage from this ability whenever possible. Whenever your E lands, its a huge window of opportunity to deal damage. Here are a few video examples:

1. Wait for minion damage whenever possible, especially in the early laning phase

2. The general rule is that if your E lands, you can do tons of damage.

GUORR28.png

R: Portal Jump zoer.png

AlyXkLI.png

Blink to a nearby position for 1 second. Then blink back.

Zoe may cast and attack, but not move, during this time. She can also see over walls.

Obviously you combine this ability with your Q to get maximum distance and therefore damage, but you can also do a few other things with it: 1. You can use ult as a pseudo-gap closer to make it much easier to land your E, 2. You can use R to get a free passive-enhanced auto-attack off, 3. You can scout with R over or near a wall as it provides a fair amount of temporary vision, 4. You can use R to dodge enemy abilities, 5. You can use R to snag dropped spell shards for your W.

No video for this ability, but pay attention to how I use my R in all the other videos.

In a Nutshell...

4tpGj6F.png

GUORR28.png

Explanations:

First Item: Morellonomicon 3165.png
Gives AP, Cooldown Reduction, Mana, and has 2 unique passives. Super good overall and there's really no reason not to buy it.

Boots: Sorcerer's Shoes 3020.png
Standard AP mage boots for more damage from your abilities.

Core: Lich Bane 3100.png, Luden's Echo 3285.png, and Rabadon's Deathcap 3089.png
Lich Bane - Synergizes with Zoe's passive for increased AA damage - buy this when you think you will get to AA a lot this game.
Luden's Echo - Burst damage and waveclear - buy this if you need a bit more waveclear or are planning to 1-shot people this game.
Rabadon's Deathcap - Amplifies your ability damage - always buy when possible.

Rounding out your build: 3135.png3157.png
Void Staff - Late game magic penetration good against enemies who have built magic resistance. Only buy this item late game.
Zhonya's Hourglass - Buy this when the enemy has a lot of AD or assassins like Rengar, Zed, Talon, etc.

Situational Items: 2139.png3030.png3102.png3152.png3027.png
Buy elixir late game only.
Other items on situational list is generally not recommended, but may be useful in certain situations.

Introduction Back to Top

Intro.png

Hi there! Thanks for viewing my Zoe guide!

I went really in-depth with this guide so please read whatever you feel is useful to you!

 Why play Zoe?

Well... how about a 1-shot montage using clips from only the past 10 games I've played?

If that seems fun to you, then you've picked the correct champion to play!

Need some other reasons?

Sure thing.

- Easy to learn, hard to master
- Lots of potential for outplays given her skillset
- Insane mobility
- Unique sleep mechanic
- You can flash 6+ times in 1 teamfight
- Hextech gunblade at level 2 lul
- Extremely fun to play
- Shes cute ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

"Delightful little world you have... I like it!" -Zoe

Early Game Back to Top

Early Game

Early game would include levels 1-9 and the general laning phase. During this time, your main objective is to farm up (last hit creeps properly) and try to win your lane or help your team win their lanes!

Levels 1-5:

Poke your opponent with your Q > AA > Q > AA combo as introduced previously! (Direct Youtube Link) Also try to weave in auto-attacks between spells, but watch out for enemy retaliation since you're not too burst-y at super early levels.

Once you hit level 3 and have access to all 3 of your abilities, you can start playing a little more aggressive and look to hit your opponent with your E. You also get a lot of lane pressure when you have an active W ready to cast. If you get damage shards like Gunblade/Ignite/etc, its better to just use it for lane pressure rather than saving it. If you get an early redemption, try to use it bot lane as it will help them immensely. (Again here's a link to abusing W if you haven't already seen it above). You can pull off some really unexpected plays with random W shards:

GUORR28.png

Level 6+

Now you can start using your ult (R) in combination with Q and E to pressure your lane, roam to other lanes, or help ward for your jungler. See the above section under abilities for mechanics you can use with your ult (R).

General Warding Tips

Ward side brushes and the river whenever possible. In lane, stay hugged to the side that has vision to better avoid the enemy jungler. If your opponent is trying to force you to one side of the lane or suddenly playing aggro, its a sign that their jungler is nearby.

Mid Game Back to Top

Mid Game

Mid game is where the laning phase ends and usually when teamfights and skirmishes involving multiple lanes start happening.

By this point, you want to have your first major item and your boots completed (Morellonomicon + Sorceror's shoes for example). You'll do a lot more damage than during early game and can burst champions down if you land your E zoee.png, but you always want to keep yourself safe first because this is usually when assassins get a huge spike in power.

Dragon control:

Dragon becomes an important objective during this time. Some dragons are worth more than others (Inferno > Ocean = Mountain > Cloud Drake). You usually want to do dragon if you get a kill or 2, or if the enemy team has returned to base.

Turrets:

Try to take as many turrets as possible during this time. However, Zoe isn't exactly the best turret pusher and will likely have to group with her team to pressure objectives.

Late Game Back to Top

Late Game

Woohoo, here come the 1-shots!

At this point, you want to have at least 3 core items completed (Like Morello's, Ludens Echo, and Deathcap) in addition to your boots. Everything you buy after this point should be situational. In general, you want to poke as many enemies down as possible and stay grouped with your team. Zoe is great at siege and not-so-great at split pushing or being off as a lone wolf since she is incredibly weak to assassins.

In general...

Be careful when farming!

Try to keep farming to a minimum during this time. The enemy team may catch and assassinate you or do baron/elder drake if you're not in position. Zoe can somewhat clear waves with a well-placed Q zoeq.png, but don't be greedy with farm and share it with your team.

Objectives:

Baron buff is super strong at this point and is a huge priority! Always try to have a ward on Baron Nashor so that you don't facecheck the area. Use your R zoer.png to scout areas if needed and invest lots of wards around objectives! Usually games don't last long enough for Elder dragon to be an issue, but if it does make sure to treat it with the same priority as baron.

Non-elder dragon buffs at this point are not worth as much. Priority here is Inferno > Mountain > Ocean = Cloud Drake.

Try to get pressure turrets/inhibitors with your team, but don't make the common mistake of overstaying.

Teamfights:

See section below.

How to Land Skillshots Back to Top

Landing Long-Range Skillshots

(and skillshots in general)

The further your opponent is, the harder it is to hit a skillshot since it gives them more time to react. You can either aim it directly, or try and predict where they will move to try and dodge the skillshot.

The biggest advice I can give to help you land skillshots is to aim at a character's feet.

The hitbox of a character is not their body, but their feet. If you aim at their feet rather than their body or head, you will hit significantly more skillshots.

GUORR28.png

Rules of thumb:

Low ranks - Aim where they are

Average/Above average ranks - Aim slightly where they are trying to move/dodge

Greatly above average ranks - Aim significantly where you think they will juke/dodge

Diamond 2+ - Aim where they are

In low ranks - people don't bother dodging skillshots. At higher ranks, they will start dodging more and more. At the highest ranks, people don't bother dodging skillshots since they predict you to predict them to dodge.

Here's a Video Illustrating How I Predict Movement/Aim Skillshots:

How to Teamfight Back to Top

Basics

First, lets look at the basics. Its slightly old, but Shurelya does a really good job of explaining teamfighting in this video and its also how I started learning to teamfight.

As Zoe,

Play backline artillery when the teamfight starts. This is ideal, but there will also be situations where you get caught and crowd-controlled by their frontline tanks or bruisers. Try to move into the backline and burn summoners preemptively.

As Shurelya mentions...

Do not tunnel on the enemy backline.

Obviously damage their backline whenever possible, but generally you want to prioritize keeping yourself safe first. 90% of the time, you want to target whoever is closest to you and kite back when needed.

In general, target priority (if you are within access range) is:

1. ADC or Mid Lane
2. Squishy support, jungler, or top laner
3. Tanky support
4. Tanky jungler
5. Tanky top laner

When you do see an opportunity...

Go in on it. This opportunity might be when the enemy team is scattered, when their backline is low/vulnerable, after major cooldowns have been used, or if your team lands crowd control on the enemy.
