Summoner Spells Back to Top

Spell #1:6.png This ability is extremely strong on Tryndamere for many reasons:

  1. The movement speed allows you to close in for more auto attacks which will inevitably result in more damage over time. It also ensures your target can not escape without a dash or 4.png. This is exceptionally good in a long lane such as Top Lane.
  2. The ability to ignore Unit Collision can set up easier tower dive and blocks your opponent's escape path by micro walking in front of them between auto attacks.
  3. Because most laners take 4.png, the cool-down of 6.pngallows you a 90 seconds window to make a play on your opponent without their Flash being up. This is highly potent if you manage to trade summoners early and set up a tower dive once you're Level 6.

Spell #2:14.pngThis ability allows Tryndamere to dominate laning phase because:

  1. The True Damage guarantees a higher tower diving probability; if your opponent 4.png or have natural healing, they will have a lower chance to survive due to the grievous wound proc.
  2. Most top laners will have12.png which means you can be proactive to make plays because you are guaranteed more killing potential by default. However, if they posses 14.png you will be equalized in damage but you can easily counter ignite with your Ultimate undyingrage.png
  3. The Cool-Down synchronize perfectly with 6.pngwhich means you will always have 6.png14.pngtogether which provide opportunities to make aggressive plays.
Alternative #1:4.pngFlash is a great spell used by many; however contrast to the benefit, there are also disadvantage to using Flash over Ghost.
  1. You can flash over walls over with4.pngwhich slashcast.pngcannot do, which is great; but most walls can be easily crossed by slashcast.png. Combo with 6.pngIt's a much safer escape although slower.
  2. The Cool-Down on 4.pngis 5 minutes, which eliminates many aggressive play opportunities. With 6.png, you can look for kill chances every 3.5 minutes which benefits much more in the long run as you can use it many more times over the course of the game.
  3. There's a choice to 4.png slashcast.pngfor a finishing hit on the target; be that as it may, you will have no more escape following the kill, which leaves you vulnerable to follow up jungle ganks.
  4. You can escape instantly  with 4.pngbut if your opponent also has flash, then it's practically negated. Ghost, however, offers a persistent movement speed increase that last 10 seconds, which travels much more distance than Flash. Keep in mind that slashcast.pngcombine with ghost makes Tryndmere nearly impossible to chase.
Alternative #2:12.pngThis spell is not recommended due to the following:
  1. Although it helps to sustain in the laning phase, Tryndamere is an extremely dominant champion who benefits more from killing your opponent rather than staying alive and farming. If you choose to use 12.png,Tryndamere might not be the best choice. There are better champions who can better utilize it such as: 24.png39.png41.png58.png122.png114.pngetc.
  2. Team fighting is one of Tryndamere's weakest aspect. If you run 12.pngyou may not kill your opponent during a split-push effectively and be forced to team fight on most occasions--sometimes you hold on to Teleport for excessively long amount of time without finding a proper use for it.
  3. The Cool-Down is long which means it can only be used twice if not only once during Laning phase. Furthermore, you are compel to play defensively throughout the game which hinders Tryndamere's aggressive prowess.
Alternative #3:3.pngThe benefit is very minimal for Tryndamere compared to 14.png.
  1. The ability counteracts with the benefit of 6.png and mockingshout.png, Tryndamere already has a natural ability that slows movement speed--as long as you can proc it--so there are no need for extra slow which doesn't provide much marginal benefit.
  2. Because it does not do damage, tower diving with exhaust is easily countered by 4.pngor Healing.
  3. Tryndamere's Ultimate undyingrage.pngrenders him unkillable, so exhausting your target provides no sustaining benefit.
  4. The Armor and Magic Resist Reduction will not help you kill your target more effectively than 14.pngwhich provides True Damage and Grievous wound.

Summoner spells defines the way you play Tryndamere. You may have your choice of comfort spells, but keep in mind this guide focus highly on the use of 6.png14.png.

This rune page is very unique and only used on *MY* Tryndamere. This is due to the fact that Tryndamere scales extremely well with Attack Speed over any other runes. There can be changes to the Yellow and Blue, however the Purple and Red is quintessential to playing effectively with maximize damage capability. The following list will explain the reasons and theories behind the use of full Attack Speed.

  • Tryndamere's passivetryndamerepassive.png generates per every auto attack, critical, and killing blow, which means attack speed will induce more attacks over time and hence, faster rage will result in more critical chance which will mean more damage.
  • Tryndamere naturally has high base attack damage (61 AD), which means more attack speed will make it easier to farm minions.
  • Why not add any AD runes? That is because in the early game, with 35% attack speed, Tryndamere naturally does more damage to any other champion in a 1v1 battle at level 1 or level 2. Because champions can only have 1 or 2 spells, most damage comes from auto attacking. Thus, Tryndamere can sometimes get First Blood by simply out damaging a target with auto attacks.
  • Tryndamere's trade damage is deceptive but effective. Your opponent cannot gauge how much damage you can do because your first auto is weak without much AD; however, because your attack speed is so high, you can easily get a Critical Hit off your passive and catch them off guard, if you're lucky with 2 critical hits in a 1v1, there's no way you will lose the fight. ie, more autos mean more critical mean more damage.
  • Attack speed makes it more efficient to split-push. With the new tower changes to have more health and no resistance, it's much more beneficial to stack attack speed rather than attack damage as it destroy towers and minions quicker.
  • Most of Tryndamere's core items scale with attack speed rather than attack damage. Statikk Shiv and Guinsoo's Rageblade for example, both charges more stack based on auto attacks.
  • Masteries such as Warlord's Bloodlust and Fervor of Battle are excellent with attack speed. Just like the items, attack speed will charge Fervor of Battle much quicker which generates attack damage so taking AD runes is actually a disadvantage compare to AS runes. Likewise, attack speed will proc Critical Hit more often so Warlord's Bloodlust trigger more lifesteal and more attack speed!
  • Attack speed can also synergize with the Summoner Spell 6.png. As mentioned before, ghost allows you to micro between attacks much easier, so the more you can attack the more you can cover distance.
  • Attack speed is very valuable to Tryndamere in the Jungle. If you are jungling you will likely get Devourer which maximize damage based on attack speed. Moreover, Tryndamere can generate Rage quicker which means more heal and more Critical Chance will clear the jungle quicker. Without 35% attack speed, it is extremely difficult to Jungle as you cannot sustain enough health to gank. In addition, Tryndamere does not have much AOE so attack speed is highly recommended to clear Jungle camps faster.
NOTE: The runes can be changed slightly depending on the match-ups. For example, against an AP top lane it is recommended to change the Blues to Magic Resist.

Ferocity - 18

  1. Fury - 4% extra attack speed is not much but great when stacked with the AS runes.
  2. Double Edged Sword - 3% extra damage for the cost of 1.5% increased damage taken is well worth as you cannot die with Tryndamere's ult undyingrage.png
  3. Vampirism - Great with starting with a 1055.pngas it becomes 5% lifesteal.
  4. Bounty Hunter - A lasting effect that can increase to 5%, great especially if you roam for kills.
  5. Battering Blows - 7% armor pen is decent for the early game, but it stacks really well with 3035.png
Cunning - 12
  1. Savagry - Increase farming capability and great with the AS runes
  2. Assassin - You will almost always be alone rather you're laning or split-pushing so it's more likely to get 1.5% damage increase in most situations.
  3. Merciless - This mastery is the main reason for going Cunning. 5% increased damage stack with Assassin, Battering Blows, and Double Edged Sword equals 9.5% to 14.5% increase damage; excellent for dominating lane.
  4. Bandit - Tryndmere is great for trading in lane with autos, which means you gain 10 Gold every 5 seconds in the early levels. If you can get 300 Gold before level 6, that is a huge lead against your opponent even without kills. This mastery is ridiculously good if you can utilize it well.
Resolve - 0

  1. Recovery - 2 Health regeneration per 5 seconds is nothing significant but decent in the long run.
  2. Tough Skin - Most top champions does damage through skills rather than auto attacks but this mastery is great for jungling.
  3. Runic Armor - Great with bloodlust.pngand Warlord's Bloodlust, the bonus regeneration helps with sustain.
  4. Veteran's Scar - Provides a bit extra health for the early game, not significant for the end game.
  5. Insight - Great mastery as it creates more plays with lower Cool-Down on 6.png14.png

-Important Keystones-

  1. Thunderlord is extremely good for trading in lanes as it offers great burst damage but has no lasting effect for long duels. With Rageblade as a first item, this Keystone scales extremely well.
  2. Warlord's Bloodlust is great as it offers more attack speed and large amount of Lifesteal during the late game; moreover, it procs on critical hit, which is Tryndamere's forte. It's great for Tryndamere in the early game as he has 35% Critical chance with just his passive.
  3. Fervor of Battle offers insane amount of bonus attack damage which scales into the late game. Since the runes offer 35% attack speed, the marginal benefit from acquiring attack damage is much greater. The more you auto attack, the stronger Fervor of Battle becomes; likewise Tryndamere's critical damage is enhanced by extra attack damage. With full charge of Fervor of Battle at level 18, you gain 112 AD but it cannot crit.
Note: Thunderlord is great for burst so take it against squishy that doesn't build tank items. Otherwise, get Fervor of Battle as it scales for the late game duels. Warlord's Bloodlust is great for sustain but doesn't offer much frontal damage.

Q: Why max E over W?
A: Lower CD + Damage > ATK Debuff & Slow Percentage

Output more damage, as I said before. Focus on winning your lane, not losing your lane.

Q: What situations to max W over Q?
A: If you're losing lane or losing in 1v1 duels, consider maxing W and it does help you survive much longer. It's great against champions such as: 107.png92.png80.png

tldr; Q for more damage. E for more damage. W for less damage. R > Q > E > W.

Situational Items

Boots variations, all of them are viable.

 Starting Items:

1075.png2003_64.png

Dorans Blade start is extremely good now as it stacks with the Vampirism mastery to make lifesteal 5%. Also, this item provides 8 AD and 80Health and stays with you for nearly the whole game. Most games I would only sell it to finish a big item or make slot for 6th item.

1st Recall: Buy Pickaxe then Blasting wand; boots if you have the money for it.

1037.png --> 1026.png

These 2 items are very high cost but you can easily buy it if you get a kill in lane. In addition, if you utilize the Bandit mastery well, it provides significant financial help towards getting one of these items.

Alternative: You can also buy another Doran's Blade or one Dagger if you cannot afford a Pickaxe.

1055.png or 1042.png

Sometimes you die or is forced to recall without much gold, do not fret as you can substitute for these 2 items to quickly go back in lane with some combat stats.

First Core Item: Rageblade is very important for Tryndamere as it provides insane value and benefits.

3124.png

This item provides Tryndamere with an insane power spike: AS, AD, AP, AOE. The attack speed allows for faster split-push and destroying towers. The AD scales great with the mass amount of atttack speed. The AP is great for healing off bloodlust.png. The AOE is very important for clearing waves during a split-push. Most tanks cannot itemize against this item as it does significant amount of AP and AD damage.

Second Core Item: Statikk Shiv provides the necessary stats to fully split-push against any champions.

3087.png

This item provides 30% Critical Chance and 35% Attack Speed which accelerate Tryndamere's damage massively in the late game. The combined AP damage combined with 3124.pngmakes it impossible to itemize against. This item helps clear waves quickly, which decreases the enemy's reaction time to stop your split-push.

Third Item (End game): There are many items to get depending on the situations.

3031.png3036.png3139.png

Infinity Edge is perfect against opponents without tank items. This item guarantees the maximum damage during the late game. It's not as good for taking towers as other items provide higher AD for the same cost, but it can win you any duel which is more important in most situations.

Lord Dominik's Regard is an item that offers a lot of armor penetration and excess damage. If the enemy only buys armor item such as 3075.png3110.png then simply get 3035.pnginstead until they buy more Health. Be careful when buying this item because the passive is very important and provides a lot of damage; so do not buy it unless the opponent has more than one armor item that provides Health as well as Armor. i.e. 3068.png3742.png3143.png

Mercurial Scimitar is a very situation item. Though it provides high damage (75AD) and lifesteal (10%), you will only buy this item against heavy Crowd-Control teams. The Magic Resist doesn't matter in most situation but it's good to have. Tryndamere has enough Critical Change and Attack Speed which makes this item great to buy. Just remember if you cannot fully buy the item but needs some form of cleanse, just purchase the 3140.pnginstead. This item is recommended against 4.png13.png90.png103.png127.png105.png

Final Build:

3006_64.png3124.png3087.png3031.png3036.png3139.png

Q: Why not build Blade of the Ruin King?
A: It is extremely expensive and offer no optimizing benefit for Tryndamere. This item is good for 1v1 duels but there are much better and cheaper items for that. There are also better items for split-pushing than BORK so it is generally a bad idea to build it.

Alternative 6th Item

3071.png3072.png3033.png3074.png3156.png

  • Black Cleaver makes you a bit tanky and great for 1v1 duels; though, it's not effective in split-pushing.
  • Bloodthirster provides high attack damage (75 AD) and high Lifesteal (20%) which is great against squishy.
  • Mortal Reminder is good against another bruisers that has high lifesteal or health regeneration.
  • Ravenous Hydra provides great damage and wave clear extremely quick. It's great even as a second item.
  • Maw of Malmortius is built to counter burst heavy champions. You will need this if their mid laner is stopping you from split-pushing.

Alternative Safe Starting Items

1029.png1054.png

Get these as starting items if you're laning against heavy AD champions that can easily out trade you. Make sure if you get these items, you should not die in lane by any means as doing so will stagnate your power spike for the mid game. These items are recommended if you are unfamiliar with match-ups such as: 80.png126.png133.png

VS

Aatrox

Easy

266_64.pngAatrox: ★★★★☆ 1 - (Pay attention to his 3rd HIT, GO in When its down, Same 4 Passive, Stack Fury before going in)

Tip: it is recommended to only fight him when you have ignite up. His natural lifesteal is very strong so do not commit for the kill unless you have Ignite and Ultimate available.

VS

Akali

Medium

[champ/akali.png]Akali: ★★★☆☆ 3 - (Buy pinks, Do not trade if there is a Q on you)
Tip: Pink wards are extremely necessary to counter her smokescreen. Do not drop your pink until you see her drop the smokescreen. Plus, always anticipate her escape route. She can be slippery if she has minions to jump to; however, if you have ghost and ignite up, it's almost a guaranteed kill if you have vision of her at all times.

VS

Alistar

Easy

12_64.pngAlistar: ★☆☆☆☆ 3 - (Walk up to him and do not E in, bait his CC and go all in)

Tip: Alistar has immense amount of Crowd-Control but very long cool down so take advantage of the down time. Simply walk up to him for trade and bait him to use his Crown-Control spells as they have high mana cost and cannot be spammed frequently. Eventually you will find an opportunity for a kill or at the very least force him to ult.

VS

Annie

Medium

1_64.pngAnnie: ★★★☆☆ 1 - (Go in early, don't let her get levels over you)
Tip: A smart Annie player will always save his/her stun. So do not initiate any aggressive play until she use her stun on a minion. The perfect opportunity to kill her is to let her push while you farm for very at a safe distance. Do not take free damage from her Q even if it is to farm last hits. Just get minions safely without losing too much health. The best chance for a kill would be maxed Fury and Ghost plus Ignite--assuming Annie does't have stun charged.

VS

Brand

Medium

63_64.pngBrand: ★★★☆☆ 1 - (Dodge skills, that's about it)
Tip: Anticipate his spells as they are quite easy to dodge. You can even bait them by seemingly press W to slow him and walk towards him then simply slashcast.pngaway or towards him if he miss his spells. Once Brand miss his Stun, killing him is an easy task.

VS

Cassiopeia

Medium

69_64.pngCassiopeia: ★★☆☆☆ 1 - (Squishy, kill her Level 1-2, abuse b4 LVL 6)
Tip: Her spell Cool-Down are extremely short so dodging them won't be much help; however, she has no escape besides Flash. So it is great to land a mockingshout.pngbefore you initiate on her. She cannot kill you as long as you have your ultimate up.

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy

[champ/chogath.png]Cho'Gath ★★★★☆ 3 - (Be weary of PROs who Max E, Watch 4 ULT DMG Output)

Tip: The most important thing to do against a Cho'Gath is to dodge his rupture.png. If you dodge his Q, he cannot escape from you. Ignore his silence as it doesn't do much against Tryndamere. The best thing to do is to wait for him to use Q then Spin away but relatively close to him. If you have 6.pngactive then simply walk between auto attacks to dodge his Q. Another thing is to always anticipate his feast.pngand ult early so you don't get bursted.

VS

Darius

Medium

[champ/darius.png]Darius: ★★★★☆ 3 - (Play passive until level 6 or Statik Shiv, Watch 4 ULT DMG Output, bait out his Spells untill he is OOM)

Tip: The best way to win a duel against a Darius is to fight him as long to his model as possible so his dariuscleave.png doesn't proc his passive and it does less damage. You can bait his Q by simply walking right at the edge of the circumference then walk away. Do this many times and if he's impatience he will miss his Q almost always. If he use his Q prematurely then it's the perfect time to commit if you are confident enough to kill him.

VS

Diana

Easy

131_64.pngDiana: ★★☆☆☆ 1 - (Squishy, not much to do, abuse b4 LVL 6)

Tip: Diana is designed to be an AP duelist but she's very squishy without her dianaW.png. You can bait her to use her W by simply walking up to her and auto attacking then instantly slashcast.pngaway. She's very easy to kill as long as you have your 6.png14.png.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

36_64.pngDr. Mundo: ★★★☆☆ 1 - (Don't fight under his E, TOO STRONG!)

Tip: Most Mundo players will farm with infectedcleavermissilecast.png so avoid getting hit accidentally. The best way for an effective trade is to approach him at an angle while he use his Q to farm. Then use your slashcast.png auto attack then mockingshout.png for the slow. If you do not get the slow, then retreat as his cleaver will be up again. Do this many times until he's low enough for a kill or tower dive.

VS

Elise

VS

Fiora

Hard

VS

Garen

Easy

VS

Gnar

104.pngGraves: ★★☆☆ - You can kill him pretty early, dont try to fight without summoners

VS

Heimerdinger

Medium

74_64.pngHeimerdinger: ★★★☆☆ 3 - (Bait his E, should be easy afterwards~)

VS

Illaoi

Easy

420.pngShe is very weak in the early game but destroy team fights if she gets resources in lane.

Tip: You can commit for first blood at around level 3 but make sure you do not push the minions. You need a long lane to be able to kill her. Ghost and Ignite can easily be enough to kill her if you fight her with max Fury. Just be sure to not trade with her at level 1 as she will out damage you with ease.

VS

Irelia

Introduction (A Must Read) Back to Top

Tryndamere takes a lot of skill to play, if you think hes only a right click champion. Think again! -Hao

Even though this is a Tryndamere guide, this is one of the most in-depth solo queue guides you will find. You will learn more and improve as a player with these general tips overall. There is a lot of general tips in this guide rather than Tryndamere tips.

~Hao 2013: Feed to get better, learn your limits, do crazy stuff, tower dive, be a one man army, learn from your mistakes, never blame others, blame yourself, get good, do as you please, enjoy the game, rest in peace. Enjoy!

~fwii 2016: You will lose games depending on your attitude. As a Tryndamere player, you have to realize your responsibility in the team. Tryndamere is designed to solo carry a whole team so play with a heavy responsibility. Just remember to practice with the desire to win every game. Some games you win and some games you lose, but just remember that "it's ok to lose as long as it's not your fault". If you get a bad team, it's fine as long as you're not the cause for losing; you get more chance at a good team if you're a good player.

Why Play Tryndamere? Back to Top

Video says all.

Introduction Back to Top

fwii is known as #1 Tryndamere Africa, I, Hao, #1 Tryndamere NA made the guide and credited it towards him because I copied his Tryndamere and just expanded on it. -Dyrone

Although Tryndamere is known to be a "troll pick" or only known as "AP Tryndamere", he's still a very strong pick as a top lane. TOP LANE* NOT JUNGLE!

2/22/2015 - As of Season 5, Jungle Tryndamere is more preferred to Top Tryndamere because there are more squishies/weaklings to kill in the jungle versus tanky top w/ teleport meta.

Due to the current meta of TANKINESS and BARRIER, of course Tryndamere is something that is not a part of the meta. There are clearly better champions than him. (IN TEAM PLAY)

This guide is focused on SOLO QUEUE TRYNDAMERE and focused on helping you understand how to win mostly every game with him top. Why a solo queue guide and not a team play guide? Consider this, why teach you how to play Tryndamere in a team environment? At some point when you join a team, there are indeed better champions than Tryndamere that is best fitted to your team, but that will not happen for a while. Face reality, get up there first and be recognized, wherever it may be.

Pros:

  • 1v2, 1v3, 1v4, 1v5 Material
  • King of Split Pushing (Annoyance)
  • Snowballs Quickly
  • Cheese Strategy (Early Level 2)
  • Best Tower Diver
  • Strong Damage Output (All Game)
  • Fun To Play HEHEHE!
  • Crazy Mobility
  • High AD (Passive Q)
  • Infinite Sustain
  • UNCOUNTERABLE.. ~ :3.. hehe..

~To save all Tryndamere players, I will not tell you Tryndamere's only counter unless you come visit ME!

Cons:

  • Risk Taker
  • CC'd to Death (Bad In Team Fights)
  • Easily Kited
  • Reliance On Lucky Criticals (Early Game)
  • REALLY HARD TO PLAY
  • Challenged Teammates

tldr; Tryndamere never loses lane top. NEVER! He is REALLY hard to play, NOT EASY as it looks. 1-6 (HARD MODE) 6-18 (EASY MODE) There is more to Tryndamere than just right clicking. Need a lot of experience playing Tryndamere, cannot master after one game. Just know that. Really high skill cap, involves a lot of mechanics, and is not easy as sustaining lane by spamming Q.

Season 6 Back to Top

Cheesing

Cheesing is still possible. You cannot stop Tryndamere. It is just a lot harder to do. Being able to do those early jungle camps ensured cheesing was possible. Now it is just a lot harder to cheese. There is a 50/50 chance that you will hit level 2 first if you play it correctly, and a chance that you might not be able to. It is just more difficult to lane, but more practice with you as Tryndamere. Most lanes now are just gonna be a normal lane, doesn't mean you are gonna lose your lane. Nothing changed about Tryndamere. The jungle camps were! GET IT!?

~Getting LVL 2

  • Autoattack the lane a bit for fury.
  • Go in with slashcast.png if possible and harass a bit.
  • Go back to last hitting.
  • Hit LVL 2 with an slashcast.png initiate and 6.png if needed.
  • If baited 4.png/6.png. ~Go in and get that FB!

Season 6 - Patch 6.5
Tryndamere - Jungling / Strategies

Once in a while, its better to play Tryndamere in the jungle versus playing him top. Everyone plays a tank top now with the dumbass skill called 12.png which makes it hard for you to even shut them down. 12.png autoloses lane, but doesn't matter. They just feed while farming and suddenly carry late game because your team is feeding. This game is too much of a team-oriented game now and Tryndamere cannot take advantage of that. Being in the jungle means you can solo almost any jungler that you encounter because junglers don't have any tank items early on.

***ONLY THE FIRST DRAGON OBJECTIVE IS IMPORTANT, Please make sure that your team/YOU do not die for dragon or even suicide for it to give them a small lead. As long as you have the first dragon, it does not matter. Since dragon does not give global gold, make sure that you don't feed them extra gold by trying to steal a dragon. Getting to five dragons usually, RARELY NEVER happens. Jungle Tryndamere helps you get FOUR dragons in 24 minutes, but games usually end at the 20 minute mark with Jungle Tryndamere as well similar to Top Tryndamere. He honestly is way stronger in the jungle but it is a slow process. This is because there is no more jungle pressure in this game. Junglers can barely gank because they die in the jungle most of the time. Kappa. This lets Tryndamere get big in the jungle, counterjungle, and encountering the enemy jungler which practically shows that it is its own separate lane.

tldr; Notes Back to Top

1. Remember, its SOLO QUEUE. PLAY SOLO. NOT 5s. (LAST HIT ALL KILLS)

2. You are the team, lead your teammates to victory! HAH. paradox.

3. Bring the lanes to you, don't waste your time going to other lanes.

4. Make their jungler camp you, kill them both.

5. Enjoy SOLO QUEUE, you win some you lose some. Don't make it stressful.

6. Taking risks may involve a lot of mistakes, but you will usually have the lead either way.

7. Always have more farm than your opponent. = AHEAD

8. K/D/A does not determine skill, you can tell if a person is good or bad by their farm.

9. Man Up, Take Risks, Win Game. You have to take risks as Tryndamere.

10. Carry, Rinse and Repeat! ~ No Fudge Given. - Better Recognize!

11. This is a PURE SOLO QUEUE TRYNDAMERE Guide.

12. Kills > Kills > Kills > Kills > Baron > Kills > Kills > Dragon > Kills > Kills > Nexus > Kills > Kills > Dragon > Turrets > WIN!

~Its A Guide: Treat It Like One:

Remember its a guide, you do not have to completely follow it. I do not go into depth into every single thing, but give you quick notes and information. It guides you through winning with Tryndamere, the rest is through experience. At some point you will consider your own build/preferences, it is up to you.

~Quick Note:

The early, mid, late game are IDEAL SITUATIONS where you will never lose, Tryndamere takes a lot of skill, and this guide is focused on auto-win tops. In situations where you lose lane, will be discussed in one section only. Find it!

~Skins: Animations

Highlander Tryndamere is his best skin. Do not use Demonblade/Sultan Trydamere. Highlander > King > ... GO CLASSIC! The Critical animation is different depending on the skin. Some skins attack faster than the other. Remember this! Too bad Highlander Tryndamere is GONE!

~Skin +1: Hitboxes

Another reason why some skins are better than the other is due to hitbox. Highlander Tryndamere has probably the smallest hitbox if you compare it to another skin like.. Sultan Tryndamere.

~Truth About Skins: Real?

OK.. to help everyone out there. The best skin out there is actually Sultan Tryndamere. But I don't recommend it as it is fairly ugly.

~Pros:

Faster Autoattack Speed / Critical Animation (test it and try to cancel vs other skins)

Longer Reach than Expected

Advantageous for beginner Tryndameres.

~Cons:

Huge Hitbox = Easier to be Targeted.

Cannot Test Critical Chance 4 Diving

Ugly Looking Skin.. .__.

~What To Ban:

ALWAYS BAN WHAT BEATS YOU TOP. IGNORE EVERYONE ELSE. You're first pick, the rest does not matter. If you're not first pick, request at least one champion to banned (IF POSSIBLE). ~Details in next section/chapter.

~Experience:

Please remember that its all experience with Tryndamere. You will learn most through playing him, you cannot just pick up on him from reading this guide extensively. Tryndamere has a lot more mechanics to him more than anything.

~Disclaimer:

Tryndamere is hard as fawk to play.. Don't think hes easy. ALMOST EVERY single matchup BEATS Tryndamere top. You need a lot of skill to play him correctly. D:< Even though I say that he beats everyone, that is if you a good Tryndamere and outplay them well. It involves knowing a lot of situations within split seconds. Live on the edge. (:

Champions to Ban (A-Z) Updated Back to Top

Patch 6.3 ~ ATM.

***Stars represent their ban priority. 5 Stars meaning a must ban.

133.pngQuinn: ★★★★★ - Got buffed in S6, her quinnQ.png makes you unable to see where she moves, no counterplay and her e is still a broken mechanic + huge map pressure with her quinnR.png.

104.pngGraves: ★★★★☆ - Strong as Top, Jungle and ADC. Tankiest ADC with a lot of burst. Counters the usage of bushes top lane.

77.pngUdyr: ★★★★★ - Huge buff with Runic Echoes as a Jungler. High damage output + mobility.

114.pngFiora: ★★★★★ - Plain stupid. Broken af since lvl 1. Counters basically everything you can buy/play in this game.

41.pngGangplank: ★★★☆☆ - Only good in high elo, needs to farm for very long and needs a good player. Can oneshot everyone tho and his Ultimate is strong early on.

203.pngKindred: ★★★☆☆  - Very strong on a good jungler, beats everyone 1v1 and is a counterjungle king.

54.pngMalphitte: ★★★★★ - Low iq low skillcap champion, buy armor + grasp and nobody can beat you 1v1.

78.pngPoppy: ★★★★☆ - Good as top, jungle and support. Build full tank and kill anyone.

96.pngKog'Maw: ★★★★☆ - No way of killing him after 3 items.

tldr; I recommend banning 114.png > 54.png > 133.png

tldr; Continued: Smurfs will play these champions, so if you hate smurfs and can handle the other champions here is the list.

Skills Back to Top

tryndamerepassive.pngPassive: Battle Fury

Explanation:

Self-explanatory.
35% Crit at 100 Fury. Keep this up at all times if possible. This is what makes Tryndamere so strong in level 1 or even level 2 fights. 35% will give you a lot of lucky PROCs (Percent Rate of Chance) to crit. This is what make Tryndamere such a risk taker when fighting/diving. But do not always rely on this to win. It involves a lot of mechanics more than just this.

bloodlust.pngQ: Bloodlust

Explanation:

BE CALM AT ALL TIMES
. This is one of the hardest skills to use with Tryndamere. It is more than just pressing Q and then just healing up. There are many different situations where using this and not using this is good or bad. If you deplete your fury, then you no longer have 35% Crit, take that into note.

Passive:

  • Bonus +5 AD x Level
  • Bonus .35 AD x 1% HP Missing

Tryndamere scales with ATK Speed, there is no reason to go other runes besides ATK Speed, this is what his Passive is for. The faster you attack, the more hits you can land, especially with these bonuses.

mockingshout.pngW: Mocking Shout

Explanation:

This skill lowers the ATK DMG of your opponent. This is what makes it so strong. Whenever you start engaging on them, use it if its just a trade-off of damage NP. They will not stay and fight a Tryndamere. If you know your damage output and are stronger than them from the start, save this until they start running and use it for the slow debuff.

~Usefulness
This can be used for facechecking bushes because this skill becomes available when a target is in range. Take note of that when going alone.

~Fighting
This can be used both defensively and offensively. ex.
92_64.png If a Riven is about to engage on you, use it defensively beforehand by activating W, reducing her attack damage and trading damage with her before you finally disengage. Offensively = Self-explanatory, slow them and chase them down to harass them.

slashcast.pngE: Spinning Slash

Explanation:

Many different situations to use this skill. Will give quick notes. List goes from Early game to Late Game.

  • Clearing Level 1 Wraith/Wolf/Golem Camp
  • Getting To Lane Quicker
  • Cheesing Level 2 (Engaging)
  • Harassing On Tower (Auto-attack Then E)
  • Escapes/Juking

Importante~!

  • Please get into the habit of using slashcast.png to both to DAMAGE & REPOSITION. It should never be one or the other. Always Both!
  • You can land your slashcast.png to do double damage. Spin past them and then they might flash/walk into it which will do double damage. Will post a video showing later~!

undyingrage.png R: Undying Rage

Explanation:

BE CALM AT ALL TIMES. Tryndamere involves a lot of risk taking. Knowing your damage output and your enemy's damage output is the key to winning. EVERY SECOND COUNTS. Using it too early may cause your death, using it too late may cause your death, use it just right. This just involves a lot of experience with Tryndamere, it is not something you can immediately pick up. Remember to tower dive a lot when your ultimate is up. ^^;; Usually you will hit 6 before your opponent, take advantage of this and get ready immediately to trick them thinking you still level 5 and dive.

I will no longer update this huge list of videos as it'll just be more and more blocks of text. I have organized all YouTube videos into their appropriate playlists. Please visit my YouTube channel and watch from there. I have organized more than 500+ YouTube videos for you! (:

Please skip to final comments for further information if there are questions on matchups. The only things posted here will be VIDEOS ONLY against certain matchups. Please know that Tryndamere loses to no one top once you master him. This list will be updated from time to time. Some videos are early game only, some are lengthy, some are short, and some are just quick pointers.

Early Game Back to Top

When is early game for Tryndamere? ~Remember Ideal Situation

  • Level 1-6
  • B4 3RD Buff Spawn (13 Minutes)
  • B4 1st Tower
  • B4 3124.png

Cheese Strategy

Cheesing basically is a quick rush to level two without your opponent knowing and taking advantage of that. Immediately spin on them if possible and get hits off. If first blood is possible, go
6.png and 14.png if needed.

If You Got First Blood

Keep your advantage, continually harass them on the tower. Tower dive when possible, trade the kills and they will lose a lot of experience and minions. To harass on tower. Auto-attack once, then
slashcast.png away. The spin has a big AOE which will hit. Sometimes tower will not even aggro hit you because you spun away too quickly.

Shoving Lane VS. Freezing

Harassing on enemy tower is Tryndamere's speciality. When you are behind/weak you should freeze the lane and last hit until you believe you are ahead. When you know you are ahead, shove the lane as fast as you can and harass them on the tower. It puts them behind because of the pressure. To harass on tower, autoatack once then E away quickly.

Anything Else

If just a farm game and no kills till 6. Take advantage of your level 6 and immediately dive when possible.

tldr; Rush level two and get FB, continue to keep your lead and take advantage of any given opportunity.

Jungler Ganks Back to Top

Q: What do I do with an early LVL 3 jungler gank?
A: Junglers start 1039_32.png rather than 1029_32.png. This is what a lot of people do not realize. Junglers no longer have armor when ganking. You should know that you can kill the enemy jungler pretty quickly and especially when hes jungling he probably comes to gank you at around 1/2 HP or 3/4 HP. Kill him right away.

Q: Why do you buy no wards Hao?
A: No reason to because even if I know its warded, I will still fight and take them both on.

Q: Why do you not want your jungler to gank your lane?
A: Your jungler will only mess up your lane, only way he can help your lane is to give your opponent double buffs. Try to let your jungler die and then take the doubles yourself. It gives you 3 minutes of dominance.

tldr; You never want your jungler to gank your lane. **** people in LoL never say. -Hao 2013.

Mid Game Back to Top

When is mid game for Tryndamere? ~Remember Ideal Situation

  • Level 11-15 ~
  • 3RD Buff Spawn (13 Minutes into the Game)
  • Baron Spawn (20 Minutes into the Game)
  • After 2nd Tower
  • 3124.png3087.png

~Keep pushing, take all enemy jungle.
After your Statikk Shiv, you should be unstoppable. If you are on the blue side, the purple team’s top jungle should be yours. Try to steal their golems, wraiths, and red buff (usually 13 minutes) constantly after you have pushed your lane. On the purple side, you should try to steal wolves and blue buff whenever possible. Constantly focus on applying pressure to both jungle and top lane.

Your mid game goal is to destroy and constantly push your lane that the enemy jungler and mid lane comes top to gank. When this happens, and you are sure you can’t escape, just fight and take one of them down. It will be a 1 for 1 trade. While you are 1v2/1v3ing top, your jungler and mid laner can roam bot or even take dragon if it’s up. Basically you are ‘distracting’ the enemy team so your team can get ahead by taking objectives.

tldr; Main idea mid game is to keep pushing, take enemy jungle and control top. Bring the enemy to you.

Late Game Back to Top

When is late game for Tryndamere? ~Remember Ideal Situation

  • Level 16+
  • After Inhibitor Tower
  • 2/3 Final Build
  • Do Baron w/ 3031_32.png (Bring Jungler REST OF TEAM Pressure MID)

~Keep pushing, take all enemy jungle.
Main idea late game is to keep pushing, while your team is doing objectives. Since by the time you have most of your build, you should be able to 1v1 about anyone on the enemy team. Because of this, the enemy will send more than just 1 person to stop you from pushing. When they come and try to stop you, you ask your team to take objectives such as towers and baron. If the enemy team is ignoring your split pushing, you tell your team to just stall as much as time possible without engaging. While your team is doing this, just keep pushing to their nexus.

~IF YOU GOT A INHIBITOR~

You tell your team to stand by objectives again while you push another lane that has an inhibitor up. By doing this, the lane with inhibitor down will constantly push to their nexus. Their team would have to send people to keep the super minions from attacking their nexus turrets while dealing with your split push. This makes situations like baiting baron and taking a tower more effective. You continue this until you get all 3 inhibitors and eventually their nexus turrets!

tldr; Main idea late game is to keep pushing, bait enemy team to go 4,5 man baron. Get free inhibitors. Do baron when possible.

Mid Tryndamere Back to Top

Q: Why would I play Tryndamere in another lane besides top?
A: When someone takes your top because they are a *bleep*. I kid.. UMM, basically these other roles can fit your playstyle better if top is more difficult to learn. But, I recommend Tryndamere top over mid/jungle as he is stronger in those lanes.

Q: Why should I mid?
A: Free farm till no end, longer sustain mid and more control over the whole map as no one can stop you. Easier chance for double buffs if your jungler is really aggressive. You can follow up and help your jungler out. Tryndamere > AP Carry. CAMP JUNGLE AS YOU CAN SPIN THROUGH WALLS~

MID TRYNDAMERE:

  • Farming Till LVL 6 Mainly
  • Help / Follow Jungler 4 Doubles
  • Only need 1053_32.png & 1001_32.png.
  • Free jungle camps whenever on free time.
  • Easy ganks/dives. Not splitpushing, but team player.
  • Boring.. Who Farms!? D:<
  • Mid/Late -> Go Back To Normal Tryndamere

tldr; MID TRYNDAMERE: ONLY PLAYSTYLE CHANGES

Jungle Tryndamere - Season 6 (Patch 6.5) Back to Top

General Idea of Jungling:
  • Start at Bot Side for good Pull
  • (Invade enemy jungler if you think you can beat him)
  • Clear full Jungle
  • Get devourer ASAP and look for kills on lane, secure Dragons, Heralds and Barons
  • Split like you were top lane
Ganking with Tryndamere is pretty dumb, chilling smite / mocking shout is a free kill.

Solo Queue Ganking Tips:
  • Always last hit the kill, enough said.
  • Only gank lanes that you can get kills in, DO NOT EVER "HELP" your laners by ganking.
  • Judge before you gank, CAN I GET A KILL?
  • SPAM ping, make them go in first (THE GREEN PING THAT YOUR COMING).

Jungle Build:  1041.png ->  1403.png -> 3124.png -> 3087.png -> 3031.png -> 3139.png

Get Boots whenever you want.

How to Splitpush ~ General Tryndamere Idea Back to Top

Splitpushing is basically just going alone and drawing pressure in another lane. Tryndamere excels in splitpushing due to his 1v2 1v3 1v4 1v5 potential. There are many different situations where you splitpush and where you cannot. Being able to understand these situations come through experience.

When to Splitpush:

  • Way Ahead, (1v2 Potential)
  • Way Behind, - If your useless, why help your team, why group? You should understand that your more useful pushing another lane than grouping.
  • No objectives to be taken or hard to get. Splitpush then let your teammates get the objectives.

Transitioning/Rotating:

  • Annoying people who can 1v1 you, Won't let you push & Won't die either.
  • Whoever gets Thornmail, is AUTOLose game. Just go pick off his teammates till no end.
  • If your teammates are just losing and cannot 4v4, take an objective for them. Rarely Happens due to the pressure apply to your lane.

Map Awareness:

  • Call for Baron/Objectives When Ganked (SPAM PING SO THEY LISTEN)
  • Don't split when your teammates are farming jungle/being useless.
  • Your call to buy wards to protect yourself or not, usually I just take them all.

tldr; Always splitpush with Tryndamere.. There isn't a game where you arent. Ignore your teammates and carry them.

Advice, Strategies & Tips Back to Top

~What Is Pressuring?
A must read. While your on their tower, you can apply a lot of pressure without even touching your opponent. You can even hurt them without landing a single hit on them. A good player while your on their tower will not aim for you if you have a lot of minions on your side. You should know that if the enemy opponent hits you once that they will draw minion aggro. If they do hit you, take advantage of that, it is okay to take a hit for them to take minion aggro. If you feel at that point you can dive them, go for it.

~Baiting - You are able to bait a lot of skills through pressuring without even touching them, try to do this before ever diving if possible. Don't waste too much time if they are smart. Dive them if baiting does not work out.

~Tower Diving Tips:
When tower diving, know your damage output if you have no
undyingrage.png. Basically, to learn Tryndamere's tower diving potential, you just have to experience it first-hand by tower diving over and over. It is not something that can be taught. When your undyingrage.png is currently in use. You have about 3-4 seconds and the last second is usually for your escape. This is more than enough time to kill your target. Do not ever tower dive in with your slashcast.png as they might flash away. Just walk up to them and then when your close enough follow these steps.

  • Make sure you have 100 Fury for 35% Critical Chance.
  • Do not hit them if they have CC.
  • Scare them and pressure them to bait their CC.
  • Start attacking them and lower their health.
  • If you notice that you can kill them, use your slashcast.png for the last hit. Gets you the kill and gets you out alive.
  • If tower is still hitting you and your undyingrage.png is still in use. (Last Second). If the last tower particle hit is coming to you, WALK BACK INTO THE PARTICLE ASAP. Do not continue running because the particle will still continue to chase you. You have to take the particle hit in order to live afterwards because of the tower buff. You can heal up after that.

~Tower Understanding
TWO TYPES OF TOWERS: TOWERS ARE RANDOM.

  • Attacks fast and deals no damage.
  • Deals damage and attacks slow.

You should be more afraid of towers that deal a lot of damage compared to attacking fast. Towers that deal a lot of damage are more deadly because after you tower dive then escape, that last tower hit is probably gonna do 300+ which ends up outdamaging your bloodlust.png.

~Zoning:
Usually as Tryndamere, you will have a strong lead against your opponent. Zoning involves preventing them from getting any experience and CS (creep score) which sets them behind. You have to understand when to zone and when not to zone. At some times you have no reason to zone, the better alternative to zoning is just to initiate and tower dive them for the kill. This puts them more behind as their tower will kill your minions. At some point, your minions will stack up because you were zoning. This allows you to dive at some point and would be a good trade if you get the kill because they lose all the minions that were piling up in lane.

~Understanding Minions & Pushing:
Sometimes when you do an early cheese and get that FB. You will be completely ahead and dominate the lane because the enemy opponent has died at level 1 and lost a lot of farm because you immediately pushed the lane right after. Even better, their lane will push towards your side which gears you up to start to zone them. They will still be level 1 when you are level 5. If you are able to do that, you will punish the enemy opponent pretty easily. Understanding when your lane is pushing towards his or when his lane is pushing towards your side is essential to trading. If you end up trading a kill and your lane is pushing towards his side, that is a bad idea because the enemy opponent will come back with a small level advantage.

-Scenario Example

Basically, even though you notice that the enemy team has 7 minions. 3 Melee + 3 Ranged + 1 Tank minion, you should be able to immediately tell that the lane is pushing towards my side. It is because that the enemy team's 7 minions are grouped together. Even though one of the enemy's minion is at low health you might assume that my lane is pushing towards his side. However, on my side the 7 minions are in single formation and all at full health. One minion on my side will immediately get targeted and killed which would make it a immedaite 6v7 minion fight. In this case, you can say that his lane is pushing towards my side.

~Seasonscall: Sandwich Method
Picture a scenario where you are split pushing one lane while your team stalls for mid turret. If you are strong, the enemy team will have to pull at least 2 people from mid in order to try to kill you. When those enemies back, take that opportunity to flank the remaining enemies at mid tower, killing them all and taking the turret. Obviously this is not the only situation that can be defined as a sandwich, but this is just an example of one. You can use this technique to take buffs, dragons, barons, and just about any objective on the map if done properly.

~A Must Read: Last Hitting

  • Last hit every single kill if possible. Tryndamere excels in snowballing.
  • How to Beat Tryndamere: Go Full AD/AP, Do Not Stack Armor EVER!. Reason why is because Tryndamere will outsustain it, so if you are playing Tryndamere and you notice your opponent stacking armor. You already won the lane, don't worry about it. Lets say they are 4/0 with 100 Armor. You are winning your lane as 0/4 Tryndamere because at some point they won't be able to kill you.

~I'm In ELO Hell, My Team Doesn't Know What Split Pushing IS! D:<

Treat league players like children. What do toddlers do? They hurt themselves over and over, then they realize, oh.. I should stop doing that. At some point they will learn. Treat league players the same way. Keep splitting if you have to, at some point your teammates will group and listen to you and you will end up winning. If not and suddenly you end up losing. Just know this. Losing to teach a lesson is a good thing! -Hao 2013. Never be discouraged from a loss.

Team Fights Back to Top

If you are forced to fight a 5v5 as Tryndamere (rare cases but possible if all lanes lose), you should never ever go in first. Doing so will get massive CC on you, rendering you from doing nothing for the duration of your HP and ULT. What you need to do is to be on the side of the team. For example, if you are fighting a 5v5 at mid lane, you should be in the wraith camp or wolves camp. As the fight starts, bruisers/tanks will dive toward your carry, whether it is the AD carry or the AP carry. While they do this, the enemy’s backline will be unprotected! This is when you E through them and assassinate them! Either cut into the backline and assassinate the enemy team’s carries, you let your teammates fight and you clean up. At some point you will annihilate their whole team.

tldr; Team fights don't exist with Tryndamere. He'll get CC'd to death. If you really want to team fight, your team has to engage 4v5 first. You are the clean-up crew, never be the first one to go in. That is all.

For teamfighting 4.png is prefered since it's another instant gap closer in higher elo superior to kill the enemy carries through the front line.

Losing Situations Back to Top

Sustainability: Champions out-harassing/out-trading you means you should get two vampiric scepters.

Feeding/Camped: If this happens, AFK farm till 6, try to get a kill off them. If doesn't work, try to take advantage of enemy mistakes. If this doesn't work, farm till Statikk Shiv, then you should start winning lane again.

Hardcore Loss: AFK top all game and keep your fed top from roaming. If he roams, you get free towers. If anyone else comes that is not your fed top, dive him. Make money and profit.

Failed To Cheese:
Mistakes happen, if they just got lucky, do not be demoralized. You will still be ahead in time play normally and judge when you are stronger or weaker.
