Summoner Spells Back to Top

Summoner Spells are pretty usual for an AP Mid, 4.pngFlash specially is useful on zyra cause she has no Escapes at all, and 14.pngIgnite is for securing a kill

Runes Back to Top

  • 9x
+0.87 magic penetration Greater Mark of Magic Penetration
  • 9x
+1.34 magic resist Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
  • 9x
+1.19 ability power Greater Glyph of Ability Power
  • 9x
+1 armor Greater Seal of Armor
  • 9x
+0.41 mana regen / 5 sec. Greater Seal of Mana Regeneration
  • 3x
+4.95 ability power Greater Quintessence of Ability Power

Flat AP Quints are standard for an AP Carry.

You can choose between Armor and Mana Regen Seals, Armor ones are quite useful to have more survivability during early ganks, if you're against an AD Mid or to give you a little defence boost late game, but this build focuses on constantly poking enemy with plants, so Mana Regen ones can be useful to have more spamming capability, especially in early game

As for Seals, you can choose between MR and flat AP Glyphs, the first ones are useful to keep up in lane against every other AP Mid, but this build doesn't focus on buying a lot of AP first, so the flat AP ones can deal that extra damage early game that can kill your lane opponent or at least let him recall faster when he's low HP

Magic Pen Marks are a must, because they'll grant you even more MPen together with Sorcerer's and Liandry's , especially cause you won't build Void Staff 99% of the times

My favourite combination is Flat AP quints, Flat AP glyphs, Mana Regen seals and MPen Marks, to have that early game boost to dominate the enemy, but you can try out different combinations by yourself, choosing the one that fits most in your gameplay

Masteries are pretty much the basic ones for every AP mid, going 21/9/0,  giving you bonus Flat AP, %AP, MPen, CDR (even if you get 20% CDR from maxing your W, and with items you'll reach 40%, that extra 4% is still a nice bonus for early game harrassing with plants), increased damage, bonus magic damage on AA, and a little bit of resistance with bonus health, MR and Armor

Maxing order is R>E>Q>W

This build focueses on maxing E first, then Q and finally W, because your E at level 5 will root enemies for 1.75s, causing them to get a lot of damage from your plants, if you cast in the right spot your seeds.
Second max is Q for the extra damage, way better than the extra CDR from W, that you max for last (Obviously get a point in your R when possible, at level 6-11-16)

Remember that your plants damage doesn't gets higher with more levels in an ability, but it only grows with your level and AP, so even if you have 5 levels in your E and 1 in your Q, both plants will deal the same damage (except that E plants will slow, and Q plants have longer range)

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Standart high-sustain start, because you want to focus on farming and poking enemy with your plants outside from their range
Alternative start for matchups with a skillshot based opponent, although i don't recommend it (you can swap an health pot or two with mana ones)

Core Items

With these two items you'll start dealing a lot of damage with plants, getting more MPen and true damage DoT from SotEL, also letting you farm easier
More MPen, %Health DoT and slow on every plant attack, and some nice extra health too
This gives you a nice extra 10% CDR, armor, more AP, and his passive makes your plants near do 15% more damage

Situational Items

These are the most common choices for your last item, and you should choose one based on the way the match is going
Homeguard if you need to run fast from fountain to inhibs, alacrity in any other cases, it gives you more MS and you always need it
You can buy this if you have mana issues early, and then sell it later on
2041_32.png Crystalline Flask and 2003_32.png x3 Health Potions are the best start, with a lot of sustain, giving you more time to harrass and farm before you have to recall

Your first back should be at least the 1080_32.png Spirit Stone, letting you farm easier, among with 1001_32.png Boots of speed, cause you don't have any escape at all.

DON'T FORGET, ALWAYS GET ONE OR TWO OF THESE 2044_32.png EVERY TIME YOU RECALL, THEY'RE LEGAL MAP HACK FOR ONLY 75G!!!!!

Your first item is the 3209_32.png Spirit of the Elder Lizard (SotEL), that gives you AD and bonus damage on monsters (not that useful in fights, but it's a bonus to farm easier), CDR, Health and Mana Regen, and its amazing passive, a bonus true damage DoT applied with every shot of your plants (this hurts more than you can imagine if you keep poking your enemy in lane)

Second things to buy are 3020_32.png Sorcerer's Shoes, granting you more MS as usual and that nice MPen, making your plants do more damage with attacks, together with the DoT from SotEL.

Next items are 3151_32.png Liandry's Torment and 3116_32.pngRylai's Crystal Scepter, the first one gives you more Health, AP, MPen, and lets your plants to apply his DoT (the plants grown from your E applies slow, so Liandry bonus is doubled) which is a %Current Health damage, amazing to chunk out half enemy tanks health bars before you start a Teamfight, and Rylai gives you Health, AP and a bonus slow on every Plant shot

3060_32.png Banner of Command can seem a little weird, you can say "Hey, even supports doesn't build it usually, why should i?". Well, first it gives you another 10% CDR, which makes you reach the 40% cap, together with SotEL and your maxed W, more AP, armor and an amazing passive with gives Health regen (not so amazing) and 15% MORE DAMAGE ON EVERY SHOT OF YOUR NEARBY PLANTS, together with its active, that lets you promote a siege minion, and i assure you that this little bastard backdoors like no one on earth, just think about this, how many people look at enemy minion waves saying "HEY, THERE ARE LIKE 5 MINIONS, WE HAVE TO IMMEDIATELY GO THERE AND BLAST THEM", giving you the gold that minion earns too

Here comes choices for the last items:
3089_32.png Rabadon's Deathcap is always the best choice, cause it gives you LOADS of AP, letting your plants become a real pain on every shot for enemies
3157_32.pngZhonya's Hourglass is a situational item, get it only for its bonus armor and its active if you notice you are always the first target in teamfights, in that case on every TF just pop out seeds, make them grow with E (doubled damage from Liandry's, but if you need extra range use Q) then R (AoE CC damage, with bonus AS on plants) then Zhonya and let them and your teammates blow up everything
3135_32.png Void staff is a good choice if your enemies are stacking lots of MR (remeber, it's cost-efficient only if enemy MR is around 100 or more), otherwise i think Rabadon's is still a better option
3165_32.png Morellonomicon is a nice source of Mana Regen and AP, but you're gonna buy another 20%CDR that will not apply, as you should have already reached the cap, so take it only if you need his passive (your enemies include someone from these: master yi, Aatrox, Mundo, Fiddlestick and anyone else who focuses on Spell Vamp/Life Steal)

About Back to Top

Hi, i'm xKylesx, a player from EUW, and this is my first guide on Lolking, the idea comes from a build that Rioteers started using on Zyra some times ago, and that was pointed out in this reddit thread, i hope you liked it, i'll keep updating it with matchups and other stuff, let me know in comments if you find any typos or you have other tips to add to it! I played this for some matches and i can assure you that is really funny to see enemies that doesn't care so much about your plants, and starts blaming you for buying items like SotEL or Banner of command, just to see later their tank health bars crushed in a few seconds!

Here's an outcome, just to let you see this is not a totally-troll build :D
