Summoner Spells Back to Top

14.png Ignite

Use this spell if you want lane dominance. The majority of the time you are probably going to want this.

4.png Flash

Mandatory. When I say mandatory I mean mandatory. Annie 1_64.png is predictable. This gives her a gigantic advantage by allowing her to surprise her enemies with a flash 4.png combo (extremely important in team-fights for eliminating the back-line. More on that later).

12.png Teleport

When you hear the words "Duo bot pls" or when someone on your team is last to pick and it's his turn, and he suddenly out of the blue says "oh no I don't know how to ADC" and picks something like Sivir 15_64.png. In general though, ignite14.png is more useful to maintain pressure in your lane and you can always rush mobility boots 3117_32.png to replace the mobility potential of Teleport 12.png. Make sure you know ahead of time your lane opponent will be easy (because you lose lane pressure by not taking ignite14.png).

11.png Smite

I'm sorry this is an AP mid Annie guide, not a Jungle Annie guide. Also, don't make the excuse "It's to make sure I don't miss the last hit on cannon minions." Don't take smite you nooblord.

3.png Exhaust

Run this with ignite14.png (ignite on D key) and use the Melee minion Summoner icon and you will literally have the same Summoner Spells + Icon as the AI Annie Bot 1_64.png during game loading screen. However, I cannot be held liable for the amount of LP loss that may be associated with using this technique.

7.png Heal

Useful if you're not level 12 yet and cannot get the Flash 4.png summoner spell. You can use it to bait your enemies or survive the last few ticks of ignite 14.png.

There is no such thing as a "one size fits all" rune page for Annie 1_64.png because I like to start differently based on who I'm going against specifically. For example, the runepage I have given you above is a runepage is a very good "general" ap rune page for any ap mage, so I would recommend it if you only wanted one rune page. I hesitate to recommend just "one" runepage that works for every situation, because it's simply not an optimal way to play her (or any champion for that matter).  By understanding more about your lane opponent and enemy jungler, and even what champions the other players in the game have chosen both on your team and the enemy team, you can get an idea of what runes/masteries you want to go for that game, what kind of playstyle, etc. (If you really wanted a "generaI" one-size fits all runepage for Annie, take the following runes: x3 AP Quints, x9 Magic Resist Glyphs, x9 Armor Seals, x9 Flat Magic Penetration Reds.)

For Example, if the enemy team has an Ashe22_64.png + Sona 37_64.pngbottom lane, and you're against an AP mid without good wave-clear (i.e. Fizz 105_64.png, Leblanc 7_64.png) you will want to run a movement speed setup, rush mobility boots 3117_32.png, and lane gank bottom lane as much as possible. Why? Because your lane opponent won't be able to push the wave very fast and thus your mid lane tower won't be pressured very much, and the enemy's bottom lane suffers from a lack of mobility (neither Ashe 22_64.png nor Sona 37_64.pnghave an innate escape except for flash. Furthermore, they're both really squishy, something that Tibbers would love to bear hug).

So here are the runes that I would highly recommend you consider running on Annie 1_64.png in certain (bot not all) circumstances.

Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed

  • These are my favorite runes to use on Annie 1_64.png. They give you approximately 15 additional movement speed and, with the 1.5% roaming mastery in utility, will give you 355 movespeed without boots at level 1. Really nice to have since Annie lacks mobility. These quints work great against characters that rely on skillshots to harass you (Lux 99_64.png, Morgana 25_64.png, Ahri 103_64.png) as well as lanes that are generally easy for Annie (Veigar 45_64.png, Evelynn 28_64.png, Lissandra 127_64.png, even Orianna 61_64.png). Sometimes, however they just aren't suitable for the lane matchup you're facing. Examples of when you WOULDN'T necessarily want to use these runes are when you're facing Ryze 13_64.png, Kassadin 38_64.png,  and Leblanc 7_64.png. Ryze 13_64.png and Leblanc 7_64.png have respectable harass that don't depend on skillshots, and therefore will always be looking to start trades with you early on. Therefore, running flat AP quints in order to win trades against them is the strongest recommendation I can give to you. Kassadin 38_64.pngcan also harass you with Null Sphere (Q) and his Force Pulse (E), both of which technically aren't skillshots. He is much weaker than you pre-level 6, however, and as a result  you want to take this window of time to try to shut him down, as his roaming is more potent than yours when he starts revving up his power level at around levels 9-11. Therefore, I'd recommend flat AP quints against Kassadin 38_64.png as well.

Greater Quintessence of Ability Power

  • These are the classic quints most people take on Annie 1_64.pngand for good reason. They bolster her burst by a considerable amount in the early game, enabling her to bully her lane opponents and essentially zone them/kill them early on, depending on how wreck-less her lane opponent is. However, I really try to avoid taking AP quints because they do not scale into late game like Movement Speed quints do, and having a low base Movement speed with Annie 1_64.png is really a huge disadvantage, since she will be more prone to ganks and will not be able to roam as effectively.

Greater Mark of Hybrid Penetration

  • These are great if you are going to be going up against a melee mid that you will be able to autoattack a lot with. Be sure to get a mastery page that incorporates the +5 armor penetration as well, as this will make your autoattacks hurt a lot early on.

Greater Mark of Magic Penetration

  •  These are great if you aren't going to be autoattacking your laner very often, or are going to be playing passively (i.e. you have a lot of movement speed gear). They scale slightly better than hybrid penetration marks do into late game.

Greater Seal of Armor

  • Required against any AD caster (Zed 238_64.png, Talon 91_64.png, Pantheon 80_64.png). You will want these if the enemy team only has one AP character that doesn't deal a whole lot of magic damage (Zac 154_64.png, Shen 98_64.png). Really great on Annie 1_64.png because she only starts with 13 armor (and is therefore extremely vulnerable to physical damage attacks). Also really good if you plan on auto-attacking your lane opponent a lot (Fizz 105_64.png, Zed 238_64.png, Kassadin 38_64.png) because you will draw minion aggro.

Greater Seal of Scaling Health

  • I prefer these against AP champions that do not rely so much on their autoattacks to harass you (Orianna 61_64.png, Ahri 103_64.png, Lux 99_64.png, Morgana 25_64.png, Ziggs 115_64.png, etc.)
  • Greater Glyph of Scaling Cooldown Reduction

    • My favorite Glyphs to use. I feel these are highly underrated as a rune option, and at level 18 provide 15% cdr for one set of runes. That's a lot. With 5% CDR from mastereis and 20% CDR from items in-game, this will provide you with 40% CDR at level 18 (and for the most part, you will have around 33-37% CDR for most of the game after you buy a morellonomicon). That is really powerful to have on Annie, since having Tibbers up more frequently will net you many, many more kills, plus your Q will be on a 2.4 second cooldown, which is an 80% AP ratio point-and-click nuke. Dayum.

Greater Glyph of Ability Power

  • The flat AP helps Annie harass + farm during the early levels, especially since I generally like to use Movement Speed quints in place of AP Quints.

Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power

  • Good against Champions that will force a farming lane on you (Morgana 25_64.png, Karthus 30_64.png, sometimes Lux 99_64.png) at least until level 6 at which point you can all-in them. Since these become basically as effective as the flat AP Glyphs at level 6-7, it's worth it to take these instead if you can't go aggressive early.

Greater Glyph of Magic Resist

  • I'd only consider taking these against Leblanc 7_64.png, Ryze 13_64.png, and possibly Sion 14_64.png. Basically anyone who can harass you without skillshots and deal a significant amount of damage early on. It will help you survive and trade with them.

RESOLVE

My preferred annie mid mastery page. Thunderlord's decree is superior to the Deathfire touch mastery in the Ferocity tree because it gives a higher base damage and overall damage during short bursts of damage, which is what annie does. Deathfire touch is better for champions that tend to do more DPS over a teamfight (Karthus, anivia, etc.)

The extra 5% cdr mastery is great to  have as well, which allows you to get up to 45% cdr if you go cdr/lvl blues and replace one of the quints with a 5% scaling quint (other 2 quints can be AP or movement). That way, if you build morellonomicon you will scale to have 45% cdr at level 18, which is super strong.
You can also opt to take 0-18-12 mastery page if you so wish, to get the lower cooldown on your summoner spells (flash/ignite). (I would go recovery > Explorer > Veteran's Scars > Insight). This is good to take if your lane opponent is easy/waveclearing with low kill pressure (lulu, anivia).

This is IN GENERAL. In some cases you will want to take 1 point in Molten Shield - (E) earlier if your lane opponent is causing you trouble or harasses you a lot (FK YOU ZED 238_64.png), namely around levels 4-5.

Start Q to trade with your opponent in lane. Since Annie's changes her stun duration isn't as important in the early game, unless your team plans to invade (in which case, you can choose to start W and charge your stun in the fountain to help). Otherwise, Q is definitely better to start for last hitting and overall trading in lane, especially since the Q's cooldown is cut in half upon killing a unit.

Maxing Q provides you with more DPS in lane. Since the cooldown on it is half of W's, it will enable you to trade with your lane opponent more often and more effectively.

Maxing W enables you to waveclear. Sometimes maxing W can be efficient if you won't be able to trade with your lane opponent often (someone that forces a farm lane, like Karthus), or if you're going for a more roaming strategy for that particular game.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Start with this in like 90% of the matchups.
I start this usually when I take teleport mid, or when I'm feeling REALLY confident that the enemy mid laner is not going to kill me. Only start this if you're confident enough you won't be killed 1v1. It's great if you can go even until your first back (great gold investment). Your kill potential with this though is much lower than if you started dorans.

Core Items

Core Damage Items for Annie Mid. You should always build these three items.

Situational Items

Buy this against enemy team comps that are "kitable." Example champions include Shyvana, Darius, Alistar, Mundo (any melee tank really)
Recommended against most AP mage matchups. This item is incredibly powerful for lane dominance, strongly recommended if enemy jungler is also AP.
(SEEKERS --> MORELLONOMICON) Advised against AD melee matchups without much ranged harass (ex Yasuo, Riven).
(SEEKERS --> ROA) Advised against AD assassins (Zed). Rod of ages provides flat HP which is critical to surviving Zed's Burst. You can consider running Rylai's in place of ROA if you feel like the other team is heavily kitable, too.
Get this item no later than your third core item. In the current meta Magic resist is prevalent everywhere, so the sooner you have magic penetration, the better.

VS

Ahri

Medium

This is a Skill matchup. If the Ahri is decent she will use her Charm - (E) followed by a Q to disable and harass you if you try to walk up and stun her. If she hits level 6 before you do and you're not near your tower you're in big trouble if she goes all-in on you.

You will win the lane if you can farm even with her OR avoid her skillshots and trade with early (potentially picking up an early kill). As time goes on you get stronger, and her incredible squishiness will allow you to 100-0 her once you hit 6 and get items (assuming you can land the stun). Never ever overextend if you don't have your ultimate up and/or your stun counter isn't 3 or more.

VS

Akali

Easy

Weak before 6. Easily abused. Start Dorans Ring + 2 Hpots and proceed to harass her with AA from range (so you don't draw minion aggro). When she goes in to last hit a minion with an auto-attack punish her for it (Q + AA or Q + W + AA).

At 6 you will still win since Akali relies on being in melee range to deal damage. If you initiate first with Tibbers she will not be able to retaliate back without facing you and Tibbers in a 2v1. In which case she will always lose (unless you're drastically behind).

VS

Anivia

Easy

If you can avoid her Iceball Stun (Q) that moves at the pace of a snail then you should be able to zone her from the wave in the early levels (pre-level 6). She's incredibly squishy so you will hurt a lot with your harass.

Start with a flask pot and a ward and ward your wraiths and tend to hug that side so that if the jungler ganks you will either A) see it coming from your ward or B) be on the opposite side of the lane so you can just walk away from it

VS

Annie

Hard

Wtf she's so OP gets free 1.25 second aoe stun level 1 strong harass long AA range at level 6 free sunfire cape with incredible burst and tankiness from shield rito please this champ OP

VS

Azir

Medium

Azir is ranged and can be a lane bully. Thus, laning early against him can be a struggle. You can consider taking 2041_32.png + 3 x 2003_32.png, however, I usually run 1056_32.png + 2 2003_32.png because I usually don't end up taking too much harass from him as I'm not usually looking to trade early. Usually at levels past level 6 Annie beats Azir in an all-in, assuming you weren't poked down, so this would be the time to fight him. Because Azir is squishy he will be forced to disengage on you unless he wants to die.

VS

Blitzcrank

Easy

Yes I have seen AP Blitzcrank mid. It's OP (not really). Just kill him a few times and make his team rage at him for trolling. Freelo at its finest.

VS

Brand

Medium

Skill matchup. If he lands his W/E + Q combo on you you are going to take a LOT of damage. (HE REALLY hurts).

Avoid his stuff and try to farm until level 6. If you can farm a large rod and he doesn't have much magic resistance (42 or less) try to all-in him with Tibbers -> Ignite -> Q + W + AA. Run toward his tower while he is stunned so you can get off an extra Q + AA to finish him if needed.

Brand will still do obscene amounts of damage late game just due to his kit having so much base damage in it. So you will want to burst him down first in teamfights.

VS

Cassiopeia

Hard

She's a pain. At level 2 expect her to land her poison circle on you and chase you with Twin Fangs to your Tower. Farm safely until level 6, and avoid her skillshots (i.e. starting boots might be helpful).  At level 6,her stun lasts 0.5 seconds longer than yours, so it's possible for her to 100-0 you before you can 100-0 her. If she goes for chalice, sorc shoes and a haunting guise, it will be difficult to full combo her at 6. In fact, I would say she has a better chance of killing you first. It's a very tossed up match-up, depending on who can initiate on who first.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

He's not a "winnable" matchup, really, at least in terms of 1v1. You CAN kill him early by playing aggressive and trying to go for a kill at levels 1-2 by zoning him from the creep wave and denying him use of his passive, but in general, this is more of a lane where you will want to farm and avoid getting knocked up by his rupture knockup. Try to farm and get your jungler to come help you out if he tries to harass you under tower. If he ever pushes up that far, he's usually an easy gank with your stun.

VS

Corki

Medium

Use your Q + W to harass him when you have a stun. If you don't start with a lot of AP (i.e. movement quints, 9-0-21) he will outtrade you if you try to trade with him without your stun. At level 6 he gets annoying long range burst from his rockets which, if he builds mpen, will hurt a lot. It's possible to all-in him if he doesnt have barrier, and he doesn't have a lot of magic resist (≤ 42 mres). I personally wouldn't waste a tibbers ult on him if he has barrier, since his valkyrie will put so much distance between you and him that you won't be able to finish him off if your burst isn't enough. Better to roam somewhere else, like bot lane, to secure kills, after you shove the lane to his tower.

VS

Diana

Easy

Much like Akali, easily abused pre-6 and still loses after level 6 due to her having to be in melee range of you to get her combo off (which is what Annie wants). Just make sure you aren't near her if you don't have your ultimate up / Don't have a stun on standby.

VS

Elise

Easy

No one plays Elise mid anymore, probably because they realize she gets wrecked by ap mages. She can harass you from range but in general if you stun her and use QW + AA she's going to take a lot more damage than she can do to you. And at level 6 she doesn't get any extra burst so you just roflstomp her easily.

VS

Evelynn

Easy

No possible way for her to trade with you in lane. Punish her hard for trying to farm, ward your lane (you will likely be overextended trying to zone her). Or you can keep the wave near your tower and freeze it there and poke her if she tries to come close. In general she is likely going to roam bot so pink warding 2043_32.png the river path down to bottom lane would help your bot out immensely. Also, if you know she's going to go down there then go down there yourself and utterly wreck her as she tries to mess up your bottom lane

VS

Ezreal

Medium

If he takes barrier and starts Magic resist you won't be able to full combo him from 100-0 without being massively fed. Furthermore, he outranges you and will always be able to farm with his low CD Q. Simply shove the lane and roam. Ezreal cannot really gank, he will most likely stay mid and farm. So take this opportunity to help bottom lane out. If you can get fed from bot, you will be able to stomp ezreal later with DFG R - W - Q - Ignite combo. Make sure you use your Q to stun him first so you don't miss your Tibbers (since it's likely he will know you are trying to full combo him he might Arcane shift out of it).

VS

Fiddlesticks

Easy

Farm to 6 and full combo him and do it over and over. Keep lane bushes on BOTH sides warded at all times, or you will you be, quoth the raven, "never more".

VS

Fizz

Medium

Levels 1 - 2 you crush him. Levels 3 - 5 is a danger zone - he outtrades you. Level 6 onward is based on who can ult who first. If he ults you you can still outtrade him if you land your tibbers stun QW ignite. However... Fizz 105_64.png is one slippery fish. Miss your ult stun, and you're in huge freaking trouble.

Generally getting ahead of Fizz early puts him enough behind that you can roam freely to other lanes. But vice versa for you (Fizz can put you behind too and roam). Therefore it's really a skill matchup.

VS

Galio

Medium

A real pain if you don't get ahead early. Full AP glyphs/Quints and HP/lvl seals with mpen reds and start dorans ring and 2 healing pots and really attempt to bully him and secure an early kill. He's weak early but if he gets going his kit naturally counters yours. so most likely you'll be roaming to other lanes to secure kills or farming evenly with him once he gets enough magic resist to ignore you.

VS

Gangplank

Easy

He has waveclear with his barrels, however, the barrels are easy to dodge. Try to last hit them for extra money. In general, he won't really have any kill pressure on your during laning phase, and i feel this is one of the easier matchups for annie since she is very strong against squishy melee characters like GP.

VS

Gragas

Medium

Start Dorans Ring + 2 Hpots. When he goes in to AA a minion use Q + AA and harass him. He's going to get tanky and has a free escape so it will more than likely be a farm lane unless your jungler wants to come gank for you.

Since the new Gragas changes, I don't see much gragas mid anymore. He's mostly played as a top laner or a jungler.

VS

Heimerdinger

Easy

He will push lane, you can farm his turret with your AA and Q. When the number of your allied minions gets below three he will use his 3-rocket ability to harass you. Just keep this in mind, start flask hpot and ward, and simply farm to level 6. You can all in him then. Or ask for a jungler gank, he's really susceptible to that since he always pushes the lane with his turrets and rockets.

VS

Janna

Medium

Wave clears very well with her Tornado ability. You won't really get the chance to kill a skilled AP Janna mid, as she will either tornado you while you combo or use her Monsoon after your combo to escape. (Good AP Janna's take Barrier to survive your burst even better). Best to just roam against her and get the sidelines ahead.

VS

Jarvan IV

Easy

Dorans ring + 2 hpots. Avoid his EQ combo all-in at level 2 (which is really predictable) and you should win lane relatively easily. Armor runes + masteries are a must against jarvan IV. Other than that though at level 6, he has to be in melee range to kill you which works to your advantage since Tibbers Aura + AA slaps just wreck him to pieces.

VS

Jayce

Easy

Not as popular of a mid anymore after his nerfs but still a hassle to deal with. He will acceleration gate + shockblast you from the bushes where you can't see him. Because Annie has low starting armor he is stronger than you at early levels. Don't try to all-in him early. He'll really screw you up. Instead, try to trade with him only when your stun is up and only when he goes into farm a creep. At level 6 and when's he's overextended farming minions with autoattacks try to all-in him immediately with Tibbers + Q + W + ignite AA. Chase him to his tower and use Flash + Q  + AA to finish him if needed.

VS

Karma

Medium

Quite difficult to lane against. Stronger burst with longer range than you during the early levels (Her Q + Mantra really hurt). Start with Flask + Hpot + Ward or Boots + 4 hpot and try to avoid her Q's. At level 6 you should be able to full combo her. She's also vulnerable to ganks, as her only escape is a short ghost ability. With your stun you should be able to take her down in a gank easily.

VS

Karthus

Easy

In general if you go heavy AP early you will be able to 100-0 him everytime your Tibbers is up. Therefore the lane is generally pretty easy to handle.

VS

Kassadin

Hard

Trading with his Q is difficult, since the shield proc is instant and also does damage against you. I recommend banning kassadin, or playing hyper aggressive with heavy starting AP in an effort to snowball against kassadin early. Be warned, however, if the enemy jungler camps kassadin (which is usually the case) you won't be able to play aggressively. Make sure your side bushes are warded before going too ham.

Choosing to farm passively with flask + 3 pots is also another choice you can try if you don't feel like playing the lane aggressively.
Note that this lane isn't seen as much anymore after his nerfs to his ultimate range. I suspect he would still be a lane bully though based on his Q functionality, so this rating remains the same until I get more experience with the new kassadin.

VS

Katarina

Easy

Start flat AP glyphs, flat AP Quints, Dorans ring + 2 hpot and harass her every time she goes into melee range to farm with her Spinning slash ability or autoattack. She will be chunked down quickly and you will win lane pretty easily. Use your Q to stun her, not your tibbers, as she can Shunpo behind you and you can possibly miss your tibbers (which can be fatal against Katarina 55_64.png).

VS

Kayle

Easy

You outburst her at pretty much every stage as long as you have stun. She's really not that difficult, after your burst she will ult herself and either try to all-in you or run away. If she tries to all-in she will die. She doesnt have enough dps to 100-0 you in time before you kill her. If she runs away, you get a free lane to farm for about 30 seconds while she b's to heal. She will miss minions and fall behind.

VS

Kennen

Easy

Outranges you. Wait for him to use his Thundering Shuriken - Q to farm and try to trade with him with your stun. Again he outranges you so you're probably going to be farming as best you can and sustaining his Q harass. Flask 2041_32.png+ Hpot 2003_32.png+ Ward 2044_32.png recommended here. At level 6 he is very squishy so a full combo with Tibbers and ignite should do the trick to kill him (unless he's built magic resist).

VS

Kha'Zix

Easy

Again, he's melee. Really weak early too. With armor runes + masteries you will be able to trade with him pretty easily. He will use his void spikes to farm from range, but he will miss a lot of CS. Try to keep the minion wave on your side to deny him farm. Rush a seeker's armguard 3191_32.pngafter your two dorans rings 1056_32.png.

VS

Kog'Maw

Hard

AP Kog maw 96_64.png OP please nerf. Try to abuse and gain an advantage over him pre-6, because after 6, with a stacked tear and some AP, he will kite you with his Ooze trail and you will take massive damage from his ultimate without being close enough to engage (unless you have flash tibbers). If he takes barrier, you won't really be able to kill him without some help from your jungler.

VS

LeBlanc

Medium

She's difficult to handle early because of her high base damages, but without a silence it gives you a chance to trade with her. Thus, if you simply make sure to Q + W + AA her everytime she tries to hurt you early, you should at least go even in lane. If you have low AP starting, start a flask + 2 hpots + 1 mana pot. Because you outscale her very hard, you will inevitable be able to one shot her without her being able to kill you since she no longer has her silence (make sure you have your stun). Rod of Ages rush is a good idea against leblanc.

VS

Lee Sin

Easy

Strong early but is melee. Avoid his Q when he hits level 2, because he's looking to all-in you with ignite. After that he's just helpless against you. Seeker's 3191_32.png after 2 doran's ring 1056_32.png is recommended.

VS

Lissandra

Easy

Her burst is inferior to yours. She is really squishy and does not have the means to escape your burst at level 6. Just take note her Q shatters behind the minion it hits, so you will want to avoid sticking behind minions when she Q's. Other than that... she's short ranged during the farming phase like you are, and you out damage her, so there shouldn't be a problem here.

VS

Lulu

Medium

Really annoying to lane against as she's a lane bully. If possible, if she uses her Q on minions to push, try to trade with her with QW + Auto. If this is not possible, you can just choose to farm as well. Lulu is a good pick against Annie because she can counter burst, however, Lulu tends to be squishy so it is also possible to one-shot her with your combo before she can react as well in teamfights, making this matchup a sort of 50-50 in my opinion.

VS

Lux

Medium

She has a range advantage over you and comparable burst. However, if Lux is being aggressive against you ask for a gank. An aggressive Lux 99_64.png is a dead Lux 99_64.pngif your jungler comes to gank. Other than that at level 6 you can all-in her with R -> W - Q -> ignite chase her to tower then Q - AA (use flash if needed). At the same time if she lands her Q on you you can be bursted down just as fast as well. Therefore it's a matter of how well you can juke her skillshots.

VS

Malzahar

Medium

He pushes. Hard. You're going to be farming at your tower the majority of the time. However, he is, like most squishy ap mages, vulnerable to ganks, and the fact he pushes so hard makes him a prime target for that. When you both hit level 6 you each have the ability to burst down the other. So make sure you pull the trigger first.

VS

Master Yi

Hard

This matchup isn't seen much anymore, and I have never played against a new Master Yi mid yet since his rework. However from what I remember he was a gigantic pain in the ass so he gets a red bar and my middle finger.

VS

Mordekaiser

Easy

Start a Flat AP runepage, and dorans ring, and try to poke him when his shield is low. Without a shield he is really squishy. If you can secure an early kill you will be able to snowball off of that. Also, ganking Mordekaiser is as easy as 1-2-3, especially with Annie. So be sure to ask your jungler if he wants free kills/assists.

VS

Morgana

Medium

A good morgana player versus a good Annie player will result in victory for Morgana if Annie doesn't have flash, simply because Morgana's kit is very strong against Annie's. Early levels are bearable (ha!) for Annie, but at level 6, Morgana can simply shield herself, Ulti you, and then once you're stunned, you won't be able to move. She will then use her Q, W and ignite and you will be dead. However, because Annie's combo is also near instant and difficult to dodge, it is possible to flash tibbers her before she can spell shield herself and finish her, so this matchup can be considered sort of a "skill" matchup, in the sense that the first person to initiate on the other will likely win the battle.

VS

Nidalee

Easy

Stay inside the minion wave and farm. Don't push the wave, try to just last hit it as nidalee can't really "shove" to your tower. So if you freeze the wave near your tower pre-6 she's open for easy ganks. In addition at level 6 you have considerable burst and can generally 100-0 her. Rushing DFG is recommended against Nidalee, to ensure she doesn't survive --> cougar form and run away with low HP.

VS

Orianna

Medium

Her early levels are weaker than yours, with the possible exception being level 1 if she takes shield. However, once she gets an unholy grail her zoning potential skyrockets and becomes very difficult to get close, due to her low cooldown Q, longer range, and zoning potential from her ball. In teamfights, focus her with a flash tibbers and eliminate her. She should be easy to bear-hug since she has no mobility.

VS

Pantheon

Medium

His spears early game are annoying. And since you have low base armor and they do physical damage he can chunk you for a lot early. He will likely try to all-in you at level 2 or 3 with ignite. So just be weary of that. If you manage to hit level 6 with comparable farm as pantheon without dying, you've won the lane.

VS

Riven

Medium

This is can be 50/50. Usually an Annie that starts heavy AP early can zone Riven away from the wave early and thus win control of the lane that way, I do not necessarily do that because of the risk of being ganked by the jungler and because of the runes I usually run (things that scale, like HP/lvl seals or CDR/lvl glyphs). Thus the lane can be a bit harder, especially if the Riven rushes a hexdrinker (and they always do). At 6 each of you can burst down the other, so I would consider rushing 2 x 1076_32.png into a 3191_32.png to be able to burst her down without being as squishy yourself.

VS

Rumble

Hard

Yeah Rumble mid is difficult, his DPS with flamespitter out does your QW burst if you don't have stun. A good rumble will wait for you to use your stun on a minion then walk up to you with flamespitter. Once he gets past your minions he'll throw those slowing rockets at you and you will take a fk ton of damage. Therefore, hold your stun and use your AA to farm minions and if he gets close blow your QW + AA on him and back off. Then farm up another stun and be sure not to get close enough to him in the meantime.

VS

Ryze

Easy

With the right setup (i.e. Flat AP quint/glyphs, flask + hpot + ward) you will outtrade him massively and bully him out of lane early. At level 6 you can 100-0 him. Don't get movement speed quints and 9-0-21 masteries against him, unless you want to lose lane horrendously (unless the Ryze is bad and uses his spells to farm minions, lol. Then you can do whatever the heck you want).

VS

Sion

Medium

He has an annoying on target stun burst combo like you do. Except at level 6 he doesnt gain any more burst damage. Ask for a jungle gank since he's fairly easy to gank. Alternatively, you can try to all-in him after he uses his burst shield on minions (and you're level 6+), although you won't always get him (he'll stun you and run, and then as the last ticks of ignite wear on him he'll just recharge his shield and survive. Quite a nuisance). I'd say just let him push the wave and farm, then proceed to be x10 more useful than his carcass in teamfights. Also, ward the river path to bottom lane and follow him because 9/10 times Sion is going to go roaming down there.

VS

Soraka

Easy

Despite what people say, Soraka mid isn't difficult to handle. Most are a joke. Farm to level 6 and don't bother trading with her early. Start flask2041_32.png / hpot 2003_32.png/ ward 2044_32.png.  At level 6 full combo her WITHOUT ignite when she is on your side of the map and chase her down with tibbers burning aura. If this doesnt completely murder her in one go then either chase her down or continue farming. If she stays under tower try to flash QW + AA + ignite her.

VS

Swain

Medium

Get an early kill on him by being really aggressive and avoiding his root, or ask for a jungler gank. If you fall behind against Swain you are gunna lose HARD. Flat AP quint /glyph + dorans ring and really aggressive gameplay early is my recommendation. You want to snowball against him so you can 100-0 him later without any problems.

VS

Syndra

Hard

Cry for ganks. She has a longer range than you, as well as more burst since she has 4 damaging abilities. If she is overly aggressive, some help from your jungler will make your life much nicer, but if you don't get help, simply play passive until you see an opportunity to kill her.

VS

Talon

Medium

Rush two Doran's Ring 1056_32.png into Seeker's 3191_32.png. Be aggressive early only when your stun is up, and generally engage him after he uses his Rake ability. Ask for ganks, you will want to get ahead in this lane if you can. His dash-silence combo gives Annie no chance for retaliation, so it is important that you are far enough ahead of him to survive the combo and burst him down. Rushing a Rod of Ages 3027_32.png after seekers is really good against assassin type characters like Talon.

VS

Teemo

Easy

Teemo 17_64.png is a poor mid laner. He has no gank potential and doesn't have considerable burst, unless you land in a mushroom. Trade with him when you have your stun up and you should win easily. Pre-6 you can also ask for a gank if he's being overly aggressive and overextending. Teemo 17_64.png isn't played much mid anymore, usually they thrive in the top lane where they annoy the living hell out of your Tryndamere 23_64.png.

VS

Tristana

Hard

Prepare the lube lol. AP Tristana falls off hard but laning against her is incredibly anti-fun. You will more than likely die a few times but that's alright, just farm your lane and try to stay relatively even in creep score.

If it's an AD tristana then it'll be much easier to lane against her. You won't really have kill potential on her until level 6, and even then not so much, because barrier + her rocket jump will enable her to get to safety without you finishing her. So just focus on farming, then roaming (once your lane is pushed to her tower).

VS

Tryndamere

Easy

Flat AP quints / Glyphs (dont forget armor seals, a must) and dorans ring w/ 2 hpots. Early levels (1-2) harass only with AA and an occasional Q when he goes in to last hit a minion. At level 3 use your spells more often and you will see his health be chunked ridicolously quickly. Don't let him spin onto you with a full crit bar. Make sure you are always in a safe position so that he can't all-in you like that. Otherwise, it's an easy lane.

VS

Twisted Fate

Easy

He was easy before the nerfs. Now that he was nerfed he's even easier. Force trades with him when you have your stun. If he doesnt want to trade, congratulations you've just zoned him from the wave and can now farm w/ your AA. Keep your stun up the entire time and just force him to farm with his 3 wild card ability. There's nothing he can do except ping you and rage at his jungler for not coming to gank. If you don't have a ward watch for him to pull a stun card and back off. It's likely his jungler is there. However, as soon as you know where the enemy jungler is (top, bot, anywhere but your lane) resume zoning him. At level 6 crush him with TIBBERS BEAR HUG

VS

Twitch

Medium

Armor seals, Flat AP Glyphs + Quints and flask + hpot + ward. Ward your wraiths and then proceed to play aggressively early on against him when your stun is up. If he starts dorans blade he will be punished really badly, since you will chunk him so hard he has to recall, or risk being exploded by an Annie QW + AA ignite combo. Be careful of his level 3 all-in. He will back away from the minion wave and you will think he went to recall, and he will unstealth next to you and start AA'ing you with ignite and finish you with his Expunge. If you don't have your stun counter near 4 you're gunna be in trouble.

VS

Veigar

Medium

He is very weak early, however, his stun duration, even with only 1 point invested now exceeds yours at early levels. Because of this, he has greater chemistry with his jungler due to his longer-ranged, longer duration stun and near-even burst. However, at level 6 flash tibbers will instantly eliminate him. But so can he to you without even needing to use flash (if he hits you with stungate, his ultimate, W, Q and ignite you are 100% dead). So it's based on who initiates who first, which is how most burst vs burst matchups go.

VS

Viktor

Medium

Viktor can be a problem to lane against because of his laser poke and straight burst - however, early levels he is extremely vulnerable to damage (he has very little health and tend to be squishy). Trading with your stun Q+W early on with an auto will win you the trades early. At level 6, if you do decide to try to fight him, make sure you engage on him first - otherwise he can kill you just as easily as you can kill him. A burst matchup yaknow?

VS

Vladimir

Easy

Start Flat AP runepage/masteries and dorans ring + 2 hpots watch as you chunk him for half his health at level 3. It's quite hilarious. You stomp him so hard it's not even funny.

VS

Xerath

Hard

Skill matchup. If the Xerath is good he will really ruin your day. Especially if he gets ganks. If he misses his E --> Q stun combo attempt to punish him for that with your own QW combo. Just try not to get baited into a jungle gank. Xerath has really long range so he will almost always be at the halfway point or near his tower, so you will have to go into risky territory to trade with him. Better just to wait until level 6 and immediately try to all-in him with ignite. Normally it gets the trick done or he will burn his flash. Either way you get free minions and if he stays near the tower you can finish him with flash Q + W

VS

Yasuo

Easy

Use your autoattack to pop his passive in lane, then proceed to trade with him while it's down. At level 1 most yasuo's take E, so it's important to put distance between yourself and your minions so he doesn't jump on you and hurt you. If he does take E at level 1, make sure you pop his passive before he goes on you so you can get a better trade with him.

Other than that, yasuo's windwall only blocks your Q + autoattacks, so at level 6, because he is so squishy, you can kill him very easily.

VS

Zed

Medium

Usually a pain in the butt. If he hits level 6 before you stay the hell away from him until you're level 6 yourself. Zed is extremely slippery and a good Zed will be able to predict when you will use your Ult and respond by using his Ult before and therefore dodging your tibbers. Which isn't good! Tibbers likes to bear hug people, not air!

I recommend waiting for him to use his ultimate on you and then stunning him with Q. Alternatively you can try to initiate on him when he doesnt expect it with a long range tibbers stun (dont use flash though). And i dont mean walk up to him and press R. I mean dance back and forth and appear as though you are just hitting minions and get your stun counter to 3. Then Press molten shield and use Tibbers and surprise stun him that way.

Rush a Zhonyas hourglass 3157_32.png after two dorans rings 1056_32.png. He no longer has kill potential on you. (Use it when he ults on you).

VS

Ziggs

Easy

Outranges you but his escape sucks. He is all skillshots and most NA mid players are bad. Therefore, it's usually an easy lane. Don't let him bully you away from the minion wave, trade when your stun is up and then back off. Dodge his Q. Start with boots 4 hpot if you want. At level 6 you can wreck him pretty easily.

VS

Zilean

Easy

Really squishy early. Anticipate when he's going to place a bomb on you and trade a QW for it with him. You should win the trade. Most zileans are really awful. That is, I've run into zileans that i full combo at level 6 and they forget to ult themselves. If he is playing overly aggressive you can ask for a gank, as he is vulnerable to these as well.

VS

Zyra

Medium

In my experience a good Zyra is difficult to handle. Especially early on. Her burst is incredibly high and if you get caught in one of her snares you will end up paying for it dearly. At level 6 she has the same burst as you do, as well as sustain damage from her plants, so its a matter of who initiates on who first. Zyra is vulnerable to ganks however, so I would recommend asking for an early gank if possible.

Early Game with Annie (Laning Phase, Counterjungling) Back to Top

What do I do level 1?

Normally, since you start Q, you will want to watch for invades by the other team. Just be weary of the map while you wait for minions to spawn - if the enemy starts invading, then coordinate with your team to try to counter the invade. Otherwise, most times you'll just be waiting for minions to spawn.

If, by chance, you know your team wants to invade level 1, start with W and charge up two of your passive procs in the fountain before leaving to follow you team (keep charging your stun as you walk). That way, you will have a 1.25 second AOE stun for the invade by the time you've joined up with your team for the invade.

What do I do levels 2-6?

You're most likely going to be farming during this period and harassing your lane opponent. If you have your stun, use it to zone your opponent or get off a QW+AA trade with them. Be weary, however, of what the enemy jungler is. Do they have a Shaco 35_64.png? A Maokai 57_64.png? Perhaps a Lee Sin 64_64.png? Always know the risk you are taking by being aggressive in lane. Sometimes it's just not worth going for lane aggression if it's going to result in your giving the enemy team a kill and an assist. Especially if you DON'T WARD your lane 24/7 (and I know you don't).

Additionally, keep an eye on your jungler to see if you can't help secure a counterjungle first blood at the enemy red/blue buff. By the same token, keep an eye out for the enemy jungler trying to counterjungle your own jungler. You can turn the tides around and secure first blood for your team.

What do I do during levels 6-9?

Is your lane opponent a soul-stealing fox named Ahri? Does she only have 30 magic resist and rushed Sorceror Shoes 3020_32.png and a Doran's Ring 1056_32.png, while you were far enough to buy a needlessly large rod 1058_32.png and boots 1001_32.png  on your first back?  Do you also have ignite? If so, blow her up. But in general... your lane opponent will probably have made some sort of defense against you. If you didn't start heavy AP in the beginning (perhaps you did a roaming setup instead), or your lane opponent has a good escape that simply doesn't make it worth risking wasting Tibbers to kill them (Corki, sometimes Ahri if she's built a negatron 1057_32.png and health) then usually  it's better to just roam around the map and secure a kill elsewhere. Getting your other lanes fed is a priority of mine I try to make every game. Annie excels at roaming, and with her stun burst potential makes it easy to secure kills during a gank. This is my bread and butter. I love roaming. And that's why I tend to favor movement speed quints over any other quint, and make frequent use of the 9-0-21 utility page.

Mid Game with Annie (Teamfights) Back to Top

My Caitlyn 51_64.png just destroyed bottom tower and now she's stealing my CS in mid! WTF IS GOING ON?

It's mid game baby. And with it brings a change in the behavior of your teammates and the overall pace of the game itself. Teamfighting is a critical part of mid and late game, an aspect that often determines who the victor will be. So how do you teamfight with Annie?

Teamfighting with Annie

Flash 4.png is critical. It's often the only way you can secure a Tibbers on multiple people without running the risk of missing him (oh the embarassment when you miss a Tibbers!). That's why I tend to take the masteries that reduce the cooldown of flash and summoner spells in the utility tree, and grab the Distortion Sorceror Shoes 3258_32.png. Together, they make flash on a 216 second cooldown, about 3 minutes in duration. This should allow you have to flash up everytime a teamfight happens, which will really be vital in winning those teamfight.

In general, before a teamfight begins you will want your stun on stand-by (at 4 stacks) as well as Tibbers available. If you can flash tibbers both of their carries together DO IT (more than likely you will insta-gib one with  R + W + Q and the other will be really low, hopefully your team will finish them within the stun-duration). Sometimes however, the enemy carries will know that that is what you are looking to do and stay behind the tanky people of their team. If this is the case, sometimes it's better not to initiate and wait for your team to initiate first. Then, once thet eamfight breaks out the enemy carries will move in to look to kill your own team. Flash + Tibbers both carries (if they're stacked, this is optimal), but if not, go for the carry that is the most fed/ does the most DPS. In early teamfights, this is PROBABLY their AP (Ability Power) carry, i.e., the person you were laning against. Later on, their ADC will probably become more of a threat than the AP carry, so you will want to burst them down instead. Always look, however, for them to stack, so that you don't HAVE to choose between taking down one or the other, you can knock down two birds with one stone!
