Items Back to Top

Starting Items

1x Faerie Charm 5xHealth Pot (4x if you want to be extra aggressive) 1xMana Pot (2x if you want to be extra aggressive) 1xWard

Core Items

    First Back
Rush this 8 times out of 10
My usual end-game build. After Athene's, get hourglass, then deathcap. After deathcap, choose void staff first if the enemy team has a lot of MR, or Rylai's first if you feel that you need the extra health/slow.

Situational Items

Really good mixed with your passive. Great against teams with assassins.
Kind of an okay item mixed with Rylai's if their team has a lot of health, but other items can give you much more damage.
I get this if at least 3/5 of the enemy team relies on heals (Volibear, Fiddle, Swain, Vlad, Trynd, etc.)

VS

Ahri

Medium

Comes down to a skill matchup. Get your tier 1 boots earlier if you can, because if she hits you with her charm, she can almost one shot you. I prefer to take barrier over ignite against Ahri because she has such high burst potential. Push her to her tower so she can't roam.

VS

Annie

Medium

She can be kind of difficult to lane against if she is played correctly, especially once she hits lvl 6. Try to poke her with your Q so she is too low to fight you. Take barrier to protect yourself against her burst.

VS

Brand

Medium

Brand has insanely strong burst. Take barrier over ignite for this matchup and make sure to always dodge his W or Q's. You can outrange his spells with your Q and he can be poked down easily enough. Try to stay away from your minions/jungler when he hits 6 because his ult can do a lot of damage.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

Cho can be very annoying to deal with. Choose barrier if you're scared of him 100-0 comboing you. Otherwise, ignite can be a good idea. No matter how much you poke, he always seems to get all his health back with his passive. Ask your jungler for an early gank and if you get just a little bit ahead of Cho, you can dominate him.

VS

Diana

Hard

Diana has her free shield, strong poke, a pull back, and a dive. She is extremely annoying to deal with. Take barrier and try to get an edge over her before she hits 6 by poking her and engaging her when she is low.

VS

Evelynn

Easy

Take ignite. Stay back a bit away from your minions so she can't get free hits on you with your Q. Autoattack and Q harass her. When she gets too close, throw down your minefield so she takes free hits. Grab a pink ward and put it about halfway from the midpoint of your lane and your tower and protect it. This will make sure she can't get too close to you while stealthed. Keep her pushed to her tower so that she can't roam. I would also recommend putting a pink ward in a bush in the bottom river so that she can't get to bot lane without you knowing.

VS

Fizz

Medium

Definitely take barrier. Poke him all day with your Q because he has melee range. Push him to his tower and if he seems to get aggressive, save your W to disengage him AFTER he uses his E. Take advantage of the time you have when his ult is down.

VS

Gragas

Easy

Easy. Take ignite, poke him down early on, avoid his barrels, and you can destroy him.

VS

Heimerdinger

Easy

Sure, he got buffed. Sure, his W hurts. But his turrets are basically useless because your Q can almost one hit them. Don't let him turret-up, avoid his W's, don't get stunned, and you should be able to stomp him. Take ignite.

VS

Karthus

Easy

Super easy. Take barrier just to protect yourself against his ult. You outrange his Q by far, and while he's trying to build up his tear, you have the chance for free hits on him. In teamfights, use your W and E to slow him from getting near the middle of your team.

VS

Kassadin

Hard

Kassadin will stomp you 9 times out of 10. Only thing you can do is try to get a kill or two off him before he hits 6, and always have him pushed to his tower so he can't roam. Farm up until mid game.

VS

Katarina

Medium

If she dives on you, it can hurt. Take barrier to bait out all her spells. Poke her down, and she should be easy enough to kill or at least send her out of lane.

VS

Kayle

Easy

Her poke can hurt, but your Q outranges all of her spells. Take ignite, and try to pick her off when her ult is down. Save your ult until AFTER she uses her ult and you should be good.

VS

Kha'Zix

Medium

Kha can be difficult to deal with after he hits level 3/4. I recommend barrier. Try to stay near your minions at all times because his isolation damage can obliterate your health. If he jumps on you when you have no minions/teammates nearby, try to disengage with your W and trade with a Q and auto. If you have minions nearby, stick near them and try to outtrade him. This is when barrier will come in handy the most.

VS

LeBlanc

Hard

Her silence->Dive combo is super annoying. Take barrier and always push her to her tower so she can't roam/farm. Avoid getting too close to her because she truly can 100-0 you before you can even get a spell off.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

Lee Sin has a strong learning curve. If you're going against one that doesn't know his combo too well, then you'll absolutely stomp. However, if you have to go against one that knows what he's doing, you can get stomped. Ignite it probably your best option. When he uses Q on you, get ready to spam your W for the disengage. Get free poke on him and always have him pushed to his tower. Careful of his flash ult.

VS

Lissandra

Easy

Easy enough. Avoid standing behind your minions because she relies on them for her Q poke. Poke her down, and when she uses her E (the claw), throw your W down on where it would land (this takes some practice but is very useful). She can hurt after 6 with her stun, however. I'd recommend barrier.

VS

Lux

Medium

Pretty annoying lane. She can farm just as well as you can because you both have a far range, and she can also burst just as well as you. Avoid her skillshots and try to poke her down from afar. Take barrier for when she tries to combo you at 6.

VS

Malzahar

Medium

Malz is very annoying. You outrange him, but he has just as good of a waveclear as you have. Be careful of when he hits 6 and never get hit by his silence. However, Malz has little mobility. Place your minefield on him and he's sure to take some free damage. Ward his blue and try to ult steal it, because he relies heavily on it.

VS

Morgana

Hard

Morg is pretty hard. She has a great waveclear, a strong combo, and a spellshield to go with that. Most of the time she will try to Q->W->E->R. When she uses her spellshield, it generally means that she is about to go in on you. Try to take down her shield with your Q + E + passive. After her shield is down, and if she is close to you, try to use your W in order to make her back off. Other than that, try and poke/push her to tower. Ignite can be a good choice against Morg.

VS

Nidalee

Medium

Nid can be really easy to lane against but she can also be very hard. Take ignite for this matchup. She will most likely be staying back lvl 1-5, but when she hits 6 she will be in cougar form trying to get some CS. When she's in cougar form, get free hits on her with all of your poke. Disengage her with your W when she tries to charge at you. Stay behind minions to avoid her spears. Easy enough.

VS

Orianna

Medium

She has crazy poke, shield, and a great ult. Stay away from her ball and you should be good enough. Take ignite because you can poke her easily with your Q until she gets super low.

VS

Pantheon

Hard

You should be fine the first couple of levels, but once he hits 4 he is super strong. Your best bet is to stay as far back as you can and keep him pushed to his tower so he can't gank other lanes. Take barrier to protect against his burst. Rush armguard.

VS

Riven

Medium

I rated Riven a medium but she could almost be rated as a hard. There are not THAT many grade-A Rivens that play in mid. However, a good Riven can easily destroy you. With her shield, she can easily dodge/block your poke and her whole kit makes it really easy for her to engage on you. Take advantage of her when her flash is down. Use your W to stop her from engaging on you and you should have some easy hits on her. I'd recommend barrier against Riven.

VS

Ryze

Easy

Super easy, he has a very short range. Just poke him down and kill him when he gets low. Take ignite.

VS

Swain

Easy

Take ignite, maybe Morello's, and you're golden. Poke him down easily enough and keep him pushed to his tower.

VS

Syndra

Medium

Definitely take barrier. Try to outfarm her. Her Q's can be easily juked if you don't push up too far and make sure that you aren't in a direct line from her->ball->you. If she hits you with a stun, you could be done for.

VS

Twisted Fate

Medium

A good TF can be difficult to deal with. Try to poke him down and keep him pushed to tower the best that you can. I would recommend barrier because he can set up a gank against you really easily. If you see him ulting down to another lane, try to pop him up with W the best that you can. If you catch him off-guard with this, it is also going to be a super easy kill for you.

VS

Xerath

Medium

Xerath has a super far range and can be really annoying. Take barrier for sure. Try to poke him down and keep him pushed to tower.

VS

Zed

Hard

Even after Zed's nerf, he can still kill you pretty easily by using his shadows to his advantage. Definitely take barrier to avoid the damage from his ult. Try to get an advantage over him before he hits 6. Disengage him with your W when he ults. Other than that, try to poke him down and push him to tower. Do NOT let Zed snowball in the slightest. Also, rushing hourglass after Chalice is recommended.

VS

Zilean

Medium

Don't underestimate the Zil-master. His double bomb can be extremely painful, and his ult is super annoying to deal with as well. When he ults, try to let the buff go away before you ult so that he doesn't get the proc from it.
