Summoner Spells Back to Top

If you're top lane you should almost always take TP. Taking ignite or exhaust top can be nice early on, but TP is a crucial spell late game to match global map pressure.

If you're mid lane, exhaust is better 95% of the time. The only time you should take ignite is when the enemy mid laner or enemy team has a lot of healing, (vladimir, swain, soraka). I'll cover exactly when to take ignite in the match-up section.

  • 3x
+4.5% attack speed Greater Quintessence of Attack Speed

On Yasuo I run 32% attack speed. My entire mark page and quint page is attack speed. The reason for this is how well Yasuo scales with attack speed. Yasuo's Q ability has a lower cooldown the more attack speed you have. Because of this, the efficiency of attack speed runes on Yasuo is very high. High attack speed = more Q's and autos = more fervor stacks = high DPS. This rune set-up actually makes you weaker lvl 1-3 but once fervor damage scales up you're a lot stronger. Seals and glyphs are standard defensive runes.

I switch up my runes if I am mid lane vs a mobile squishy mage. I'll take thunderlords and swap out my attack speed marks for attack damage marks. This is to adapt to champions like leblanc that won't let you sit there and auto them. The trades are more about short bursts of damage, so a bit more AD goes a long way.

RESOLVE

I run 18-0-12 for the strongest early game possible and the best resistance to tower dives.

Having 12 points in the defensive tree doesn't seem like a lot compared to the damage offered from the middle tree, but it's a big difference against some of Yasuo's harder match ups.

Generally, it is more beneficial to max E first. This is because lvling up Q will only increase the damage by 20. Lvling E will increase the damage, lower the cooldown, and also lower the cooldown of when you can use E again on the same target. It may not seem like much but it makes Yasuo a lot more mobile and helps you engage and disengage a lot quicker. That being said, there are certain lanes where maxing Q is useful.

In situations where mobility is not as useful (champions that are more mobile than Yasuo or have high chase potential), maxing Q can help. I'll cover this in detail in the match-up section but I will max Q vs Irelia, Riven, Olaf, Tryndamere, Renekton. All these champions can stick to Yasuo easily. There isn't much room for outplay, so maxing E isn't too worth it.

passive.png

Your passive is a shield that scales with level. It charges based on your movement so as a Yasuo player you should never be standing still. Constantly run around or dash around to keep your passive charging. It's important in lane to go for trades when your passive is up and play safe when it is down.

Q.png

Your Q is your bread and butter DPS ability. It is a linear stab in the direction of your mouse click. Once you have hit targets with your Q two times, the third Q will be a tornado you can throw for a much longer range or you can do a fancy combo if you use your E and then hit Q before your E ends.

Use your Q to harass the enemy laner. When you have a charged tornado, use it to CC your opponent and get some autos in. Then dash away with your E.

Your Q can crit, and it will do more damage than your basic auto.

windwall.png

Your W creates a wall in front of you that blocks all projectiles of any sort. Use it to protect your team during team fights and block off the enemy adc if you can. Very useful for trading in a lane against a ranged opponent.

A little tip when using wall is if a marksman tries walking past your wall to get to you, walk across your wall the opposite direction so you both are still on opposite sides of the wall.

E.png

Your E is a dash that can be cast with minimal cooldown on any enemy target including jungle camps. Yasuo will dash through the target upon cast so use this to engage and disengage quickly in lane. If you are getting ganked dash through minions to put distance between you and your opponents.

R.png

Your ultimate requires a knockup nearby to cast. It will suspend all knocked up opponents for a longer duration and deal damage to them. It is best used in conjunction with your Q.

Here is a link to a complete list of abilities that Yasuo can use his ultimate on.

Yasuo can also ulti off of knockups applied by Baron and Dragon!

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Second doran's is standard when you run 29% attack speed runes. You lack AD early so an extra dorans goes a long way.
Cull is an item you buy based on the vibe of the game. If you feel like your laner is playing very passive and safe, it is a good buy as you can simply farm and scale. If there is constant trading and aggresion, a second dorans blade is usually the better option.

Core Items

This is an example full build for Yasuo. It's got 100% crit, armor, MR, and health. This build makes you tanky and lets you deal tons of damage. Full damage Yasuo is a thing of the past. Bruiser tank builds are now the way to go. Maw is swapped out for wits if you bought that as your first item.
This is your core starting build vs any bruiser lane that is a threat (renek, irelia, olaf, riven, jax, etc). Any AD lane that has high kill potential on Yasuo, pick these items up after your PD. It is okay to grab them even earlier against a very hard lane like Renekton or Riven.
This is your core vs any AP threat. Ekko, Akali, Cass. You'll turn the negatron into a wits end and the Jaurim's into a frozen mallet.
These two items are going to be absolutely core after patch 6.18. You'll need to pick up 100% crit for the armor pen passive from your ult or you won't be able to deal with tanks. After patch 6.24, it is CRUCIAL that you buy these two items right away. The fervor change now makes crit very important. Fervor now gives Attack Damage instead of on-hit, which crit now applies to!!! Crit used to not matter for on-hit damage, so delaying crit was okay. Your build should be dorans blade (maybe another dorans blade), PD, cloak in almost every matchup. The only exception is if you are getting SMASHED in lane. Then rush defensive items first.
These are the only three boots you should ever buy on Yasuo IMO. Swifties are viable if you intend on roaming a LOT. You buy boots based on lane. Tabis vs champs like Tryn, Irelia, Olaf. Mercs vs champs like Ryze, Cass, Liss. Zerkers if you are snowballing hard and want to push your advantage vs a weak opponent. Generally, you want to go with tabis or mercs 90% of the time.

Situational Items

Get this whenever the enemy team has a lot of CC. Unlike any other lifesteal item, DD can save you during CC. The passive is really nice once you have a few tank items. Tbh I prefer this to BT or Bork nowadays.
Def want mercurial if they have a lot of CC. Bork is good vs fat tanks that you can kite, like Mundo. Lifesteal items are still good but they're better for split pushing. In a team fight you need to survive AOE and CC. Merc skim is my preferred of the 3 for sure.
THE WALLET BUILD. So this build is actually amazing. Vs any sort of lane with AP dmg DEFINITELY go this build. Rush wits end -> Frozen Mallet. If you are getting rekt in lane build a negatron and then build a Jaurim's fist, the component for mallet. This will give you enough health and resistance to make it to late game. Otherwise rush Wits for the SWEET power spike and get Mallet to win the game. After patch 6.18, this build is still good vs Akali and Ekko. It is however, a lot weaker against tanks now.
Frozen Force. After patch 6.18 this build is pretty much obsolete imo. You wont have armor pen from your ult for way too long considering how expensive the two items are.
VS HEAVY AP (Top, mid, jg, sup all AP)
VS HEAVY AD (Top, mid, jg all AD)
    split push

VS

Aatrox

Easy

Take exhaust, pick up an executioner's culling early on. Get PD as your first item. Then mallet, then IE.

VS

Ahri

Medium
Build a hexdrinker first item.

Make sure you save windwall for her charm. Winning lane is all about dodging her Q's. Be ready at all times to block her charm once she hits 6. Watch out for the charm-flash.

VS

Akali

Hard
Grab a negatron on your first back. This will ensure she doesn't kill you at lvl 6. Then buy a Jaurim's first. Stack this up as quick as you can so it will give you the full 300 health points. The key to beating Akali is NOT letting her snowball. WIth this build she cannot dive you. With ANY other build she will kill you at tower at lvl 6 I guarantee it.

After you have negatron and Jaurim's, finish your wits end, then finish your mallet. Once you have wits you can 1v1 her. Once you have mallet you can destroy her.

If you go any other sort of build prepare to get anal'ed in lane after lvl 6.

After you have wits and mallet, get ninja tabis. Akali does a fair amount of physical damage, don't underestimate it. You need the armor from tabis. Get GA after or pick up a PD if you feel like you need more damage. Top the build off with a Maw or Randuins depending on if you need more armor or MR.

VS

Alistar

Easy

Wits end baby. Frozen mallet next. Laugh as Alistar's damage completely falls off.

VS

Amumu

Easy

Wits end baby. Followed by frozen mallet and then either tank items or a PD.

Another case of AP dmg that will fall off.

VS

Anivia

Medium

Rush a hexdrinker and get a wits end after. Then finish your maw and build either tanky or damage. Make sure you save wall for her stun. Sometimes it's worth to take a Q to the face. Abuse her in lane early on when she's squishy.

VS

Annie

Hard

Pretty rough lane. Her lvl 6 is very scary. Take either exhaust or cleanse.

Rush a hexdrinker right away and wits end after. Grab a bami's somewhere in there if you can.

Beating annie is all about surviving her burst.

VS

Ashe

Easy
Double dorans into PD into sunfire. Then get either triforce or IE depending on if you need the tank stats of tri.

Any lane vs an adc = trade aggressive when your wall is up, play safe when it's not up.

VS

Aurelion Sol

Easy
Rush hexdrinker into wits end.

Easy lane for Yasuo. Don't be afraid to trade aggresively. Dash in RIGHT next to him so he can't hit you with any orbs. It's very hard for Sol to stun you if you're on top of him as well. Windwall his stun and you'll be fine.

VS

Azir

Hard

Rush hexdrinker into wits end.

One of the hardest lanes for Yasuo honestly. A well played azir is very hard to deal with. Try to trade early on when he's weak (lvl 1, 2). You can windwall his ultimate and it will actually stop it from bouncing you. But you still take damage.

VS

Brand

Easy

Rush hexdrinker into wits.

Block his ult with your wall.

VS

Caitlyn

Easy
Double dorans into PD into sunfire. Then get either triforce or IE depending on if you need the tank stats of tri.

Any lane vs an adc = trade aggressive when your wall is up, play safe when it's not up.

VS

Cassiopeia

Hard

Rush hexdrinker into wits.

After Cass got changed, her pool actually screws Yasuo over super hard. You can't dash with your E if you are standing in it. However Cass can only cast the pool a set distance away so winning this lane is all about getting up in her face. Don't be afraid. Take exhaust.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

Bami, wits end.

This lane got a lot easier when wits end got buffed.

VS

Corki

Easy
Rush hexdrinker, PD.

Easy lane if you respect his early damage. Once you get hex and PD it's easy peasy.

VS

Darius

Hard
Double dorans, mallet, PD.

Pretty rough lane. The key to winning is dashing in when he uses Q so you don't get tipped by the Q. If you do it incorrectly you're dead. If you do it right you win the trade. Takes practice. After mallet get a PD.

VS

Diana

Medium

Rush hexdrinker into wits end.

Can go either ways but wits end buff helped a lot. You do more dmg than her. Block the Q and go ham on her ass.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Medium

Rush executioners early. Pick up a bork. Look for TP plays, you have a lot more impact than Mundo.

VS

Draven

Easy
Double dorans into PD into sunfire. Then get either triforce or IE depending on if you need the tank stats of tri.

Any lane vs an adc = trade aggressive when your wall is up, play safe when it's not up.

VS

Ekko

Medium

Rush a wits end. Then pick up a hex if they have a lot of AP, mallet otherwise.

Winning vs Ekko is all about dodging his skillshots. This is easy to do if you use your E correctly.

VS

Ezreal

Easy
Double dorans into PD into sunfire. Then get either triforce or IE depending on if you need the tank stats of tri.

Any lane vs an adc = trade aggressive when your wall is up, play safe when it's not up.

VS

Fiora

Hard

Rush PD, then go either mallet or IE.

Skill matchup. You win early on so don't be afraid to trade. If her passive is in a bad spot walk away from her so it resets. If she ults you try to hug a wall so she can't proc all 4 hits. Be aggressive early, her stats are weak.

VS

Fizz

Medium
Exhaust if mid. Tp if top.

Dorans blade -> Dorans blade -> negatron cloak -> recurve bow -> wits end

Then Jaurim's fist -> frozen mallet.

Get ninja tabis next or get merc if they have a lot of CC.

Once you have those two items fizz can't do anything. At that point you can either go PD + IE or commit to a tanky build. Randuins vs heavy AD damage. Maw vs heavy AP. GA vs a healthy mix.

Gameplay-
Fizz is very easy for Yasuo if played correctly and you build the right items. Harass him with an auto -> Q if he comes to farm minions. You should really be zoning him from farm from lvl 1. If he uses spells on you try to dodge his E by dashing out of the way. You can even dodge his Q if you dash at the right time. At lvl 6 be ready to windwall his fish.

A smart fizz will Q to you and then go for a point blank shark. Dash immediately through him if he does this so you can put distance between you two and make it possible to windwall his ult. Once you get wits end, immediately go for an all in once you get back to lane. You will win. If he ever uses his E to jump on you exhaust immediately after and all in. Be careful for jungle ganks. Fizz has a lot of slows that make it easy for him to setup ganks.

VS

Gangplank

Medium

Rush PD into triforce or IE. Grab tabis early for sure. First two core items should be tabis and PD.

Yasuo has the upper hand if played correctly. You need to dash in and destory his barrel to start the fight. You won't win the trade otherwise. If he ults, immediately dash away.

VS

Garen

Medium

Farm and outscale. Pick up a cull and just farm farm farm. Do not fight him until you have PD mallet.

VS

Gnar

Medium

Double dorans, bamis, PD, IE

Start the fight by windwalling his boomerang. Go HAM after doing so because it goes on a long cooldown.

VS

Gragas

Easy

Wits end baby

VS

Graves

Hard

Grab an executioners if he gets a lot of lifesteal. Don't let him stack his E. Engage when he has 0 stacks.

This lane is deceptively hard. His early buys are much better than your early buys. But you scale much harder with 1-2 items than he does.

If you fall behind you're FUKED so farm safe until you get your PD. DO NOT engage on him. This isn't a lane you want to brawl in. Farm up. Late game he is essentially a useless ADC with short range. Don't let him get fed and he will be useless.

VS

Hecarim

Medium

This lane is very very easy once you have PD and mallet. Respect his damage until then.

VS

Heimerdinger

Easy

Tell your jungler at the start of the game to NOT GANK YOU.

The only way to really lose a game to heimer is if your jungler ganks and you guys monkey it up and both die.

Just buy a cull and farm farm farm. If he tries to gangbang you with his jungler drop a wall and peace out. There should be no way you die in this lane. Farm, scale, win.

Get triforce first item to blast his turrets. You can't crit turrets but you can sheen proc them. Triforce -> Mallet -> Wits end -> Ga -> BT

VS

Illaoi

Medium

Double dorans, mallet, PD, IE

A well played yasuo will destroy Illaoi.

Follow this rule -> Prioritize dodging her spells over even dealing damage to her.

It's worth it to just run around and dodge stuff before trying to hurt her. If she hits you with spells she will heal and win. Block vessel with your W. Try to bait her ult and run like a b*tch.

VS

Irelia

Hard

Double dorans, Jauri'ms fist, tabis, PD, mallet. You NEED Jaurim's and tabi asap.

Hard lane. Respect her damage once she gets sheen. Try to wall off as much of her ult as possible. She scales hard into midgame but her weakness is teamfights. Try to farm. Do not get too aggresive after lvl 6. Keep your distance and wait for teamfights.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium

double dorans, Mallet, PD

all about dodging his EQ

VS

Jax

Hard

Double dorans, PD, mallet, IE.

Do not get caught in a straight slugfest with Jax. Abuse the fact your auto attack range is higher and use Q to poke. Do not auto him during his E, it makes him do more damage with it. Dash away once he charges his E. Rough lane. Try to farm and wait for teamfights (like Irelia)

VS

Jayce

Hard

Doran's shield, then Doran's blade on first back, jaurim's fist, ninja tabis, PD, mallet, IE, GA, BT

This lane is very rough for yasuo. Doran's shield helps a lot with his constant harass. The trick with this lane is csing well and waiting until lvl 6.

Jayce has no lvl 6 power spike and Yasuo has a big one so if you keep the lane even until then you have already won. He only wins if he kills you early on so play super safe and DO NOT DIE. This lane is hell if Jayce gets any sort of a lead.

If Jayce does not snowball he is actually quit useless late game. Just have to be patient in this lane. You should NEVER look to trade pre-6.

After lvl 6 if you get a nice windwall blocking an E+Q combo you can win an all-in. Try and knockup his Hammer-form Q, it will make the spell fizzle. With practice this is easy to do. Keep your knockup until you see him begin to flip in the air.

VS

Jinx

Easy
Double dorans into PD into sunfire. Then get either triforce or IE depending on if you need the tank stats of tri.

Any lane vs an adc = trade aggressive when your wall is up, play safe when it's not up.

VS

Kalista

Easy
Double dorans into PD into sunfire. Then get either triforce or IE depending on if you need the tank stats of tri.

Any lane vs an adc = trade aggressive when your wall is up, play safe when it's not up.

VS

Karthus

Medium

Rush wits end, then hex.

Don't be afraid to get in his face and trade. Dodge his Q if you can.

VS

Kassadin

Easy

Rush wits end, hexdrinker after.

Easy lane. Wait for him to use his Q before using your E otherwise the damage gets absorbed by his shield. Just auto Q him a lot early on and his health gets rekt.

VS

Katarina

Easy

Rush hexdrinker, then wits end

Trade aggresively and often early on. She simply can't match your dps. If she jumps on you and ults. Wall first then dash through her so your wall blocks her ult. Very important you remember this.

VS

Kayle

Hard

Smart thing to do against Kayle is click on her and watch her E cooldown in the top left corner. Time your engage right as her E is about to wear off. You out dps her when her E is down. Keep your harass short. You should dash out before her E is back up. Get a wits end first item, then a mallet. Then Kayle can't do anything.

VS

Kennen

Hard

Rush hexdrinker, wits end.

This lane is rough. Kennen has a great kit vs yasuo. Try to bait his ult out by using yours then dashing away right after.

VS

Kindred

Easy
Double dorans into PD into sunfire. Then get either triforce or IE depending on if you need the tank stats of tri.

Any lane vs an adc = trade aggressive when your wall is up, play safe when it's not up.

VS

Kled

Hard
Double dorans, Jaurim's, tabis, mallet, PD, IE.

Alright this lane is tricky. Kled does a LOT of damage. Wait for him to use his W (the quick autos followed by an enhanced auto), before going in for a trade. The key to winning an all in is timing your engage so he falls off his mount and then you ult him right away to finish him off.

You outscale Kled HARD. Farming up and keeping up in CS usually means you will win.

VS

LeBlanc

Hard

Rush hex, wits end

Play safe till hex. If you die early it's going to be a ROUGH game. Once you get hex it's much easier.

VS

Lee Sin

Hard

double dorans, bamis, sunfire, pd, mallet

This lane is actually scary. Lee can kill yasuo easily so you have to make sure you dodge his Q or windwall it.

VS

Lissandra

Medium

Hex, wits end, QSS

Get the QSS early if you're getting camped. The scary thing about liss is her gank setup so ward well.

VS

Lucian

Easy
Double dorans into PD into sunfire. Then get either triforce or IE depending on if you need the tank stats of tri.

Any lane vs an adc = trade aggressive when your wall is up, play safe when it's not up.

VS

Lulu

Easy

Rush wits end. Then hex.

Don't be afraid to trade. Lulu has bad stats early on.

VS

Lux

Easy

Rush wits end, then hex.

Easy lane as long as you dodge or block her snare. Nothing she can do.

VS

Malphite

Medium

Rush wits end, get a bamis too for the magic damage burn. Get a cowl after.

This lane isn't bad. It's all about building up a healthy mix of damage with wits and bamis. If malphite uses his slam, run and engage after the effect wears off. Do not fight him with his W up his autos hurt.

VS

Malzahar

Easy

Rush wits end, then QSS, then hex.

pressure him early if he uses spells to farm.

VS

Maokai

Easy

Rush wits end.

Maokai simply cant deal with wits end.

VS

Master Yi

Medium

Rush double dorans, PD, tabis, mallet, IE

Can't build too tanky vs yi. Mallet and tabis will keep you alive to actually get your combo off. He'll shred you regardless. Trade often early on. He will eventually outscale so try and shine during teamfights.

VS

Mordekaiser

Hard

Rush wits end, hexdrinker, bamis

This lane isn't easy. You can't go for small trades because of his shield. You have to commit and disengage before he hits you with his third Q. It's tricky but once you get MR this lane is a lot easier.

VS

Morgana

Medium

Rush hex, wits end, QSS

Pick up a cull and farm it out boyos.

VS

Nasus

Hard

Rush PD, cleaver, mallet, tabis

you HAVE to deny him farm early. Do not let him CS. freeze the wave. Punish if he tries to farm. Winning this lane is all about deny deny deny.

VS

Nautilus

Easy

Wits end baby. Then mallet, then PD.

VS

Nidalee

Easy

Wits, end, baby

VS

Nocturne

Medium

Double dorans, bami, PD, IE

Noc does surprising amounts of burst. Trade early on for sure lvl 1-3 but respect his burst at lvl 6.

VS

Nunu

Easy

wits end, cull, farm it out

he's worthless late game

VS

Olaf

Hard

Double dorans, Jauri'ms, tabis, PD, mallet

This lane is very very hard. You have to windwall his axe. If you mess it up you're dead. Try to farm and make plays in teamfights. Do not try and fight him at lvl 6, you will lose.

Your one goal is to NOT die.

VS

Orianna

Hard

Rush wits end, hex.

Don't try and trade with her early on. She actually sh*ts on yasuo in trades. Just farm till you have some MR.

VS

Pantheon

Medium

Double dorans, rush sunfire, then PD, then mallet, then IE. One of the few lanes where sunfire is still worth getting.

Easy game once you get sunfire. Play safe and farm until then. Ping and communicate with your allies when he is missing or lvl 6.

VS

Poppy

Medium

double dorans, bami, PD, mallet

Once you have some tank items there's nothing Poppy can do.

VS

Quinn

Hard

double dorans, bami, rush sunfire and tabis

This lane is actually brutal if the quinn is good. Play safe and scale up. Communicate with your team when she is missing.

VS

Rammus

Medium

take GRASP. Double dorans, bami, wits end, Cowl. Finish with a maw, randuins, tanky items.

do NOT build more attack speed. It will hurt you rather than help. Kill him off grasp damage.

VS

Renekton

Hard

double dorans, mallet, PD

Literally do not even try and fight him until you have those 4 items.

VS

Rengar

Medium

double dorans, bami, tabi, sunfire, PD, IE.

Do not build damage. You need sunfire and tabi asap. Kill him with fervor damage.

VS

Riven

Hard
Rush mallet first item. Pick up a cloth armor as well whenever you can. Mallet helps a lot because the slow makes it very hard for rivens to animation cancel. Get PD next, then IE.

After that you can decide if you want more damage or more tank items depending on how the game is going.

Poke her in lane with Q but be very careful. If she dashes in back away as fast as you can. It's important your reaction time is very solid in this lane. Max Q vs her because mobility is not crucial. Get tanky as quick as you can. Survive her burst, kill her after her combo is done.

VS

Rumble

Hard

Rush wits end, hex, bamis

This lane is hard. Wait for him to use shield before trading. If he ults, dash out right away. Much easier once you have wits. Play passive until then.

VS

Ryze

Medium

Rush wits, hex, bamis

Wait for his passive to go down, then all-in. Save wall for when his passive comes up during the all-in, and block his frenzy of spells. Play around your wall and you will win.

VS

Shen

Easy

buy cull and farm... zzzz

VS

Singed

Medium

Wits end, mallet, PD, IE

dont even try and trade after he gets one or two items. just farm. Pick up a cull maybe. Take the bandit mastery and poke him for money. You outscale singed once late game hits but his midgame is a lot stronger. Focus on farming.

DO NOT ever chase him around. If he decides to proxy let him, get a cull and a vamp sceptre and just farm like a madman.

VS

Sion

Medium
Double dorans, PD, Mallet, IE

Try and punish him early. His midgame is a lot better than yours. Do not be afraid to skirmish him early. Make sure you either windwall his E or dodge it. If he lands E on you it's very easy for him to land the rest of his combo. As long as you stay clear of the slow you should be able to dodge his Q easily by either sidestepping or dashing into him right away.

VS

Sivir

Easy
Double dorans into PD into sunfire. Then get either triforce or IE depending on if you need the tank stats of tri.

Any lane vs an adc = trade aggressive when your wall is up, play safe when it's not up.

VS

Swain

Medium

Rush wits, hex, PD, bamis

This lane is actually easy for Yasuo. You can block Swain's Q now as well as his E and ult. So as long as your dodge his W you can destroy him. Get an executioners.

VS

Syndra

Easy

Max E against Syndra

Buildpath should be-

Dorans blade, dorans blade, hexdrinker, PD, merc treads, Mallet, Maw, IE, GA

Why no wits end?

Syndra isn't a hard lane for Yasuo. She doesn't have much kill pressure since your wind wall can block her entire ultimate. Because of this it's okay to go into your core right away, picking up he first.

If she lands a nice stun on you and you aren't in position to wall off her ult, you can flash away from her and wall right away in order to put distance between you two (her ult takes time to travel).

This may not seem like much but it can mean the difference between taking her entire ult and taking half of it.

Be confident in lane. If your passive is up go in for a trade. Your windwall can block her stun. Once she has ult, save your wall for her ult. Grab boots early because you'll need the ms to dodge her constant skillshots. If you are very confident you can grab merc treads early on and dance around her constantly. Merc treads are also important because the tenacity may give you a chance to wall off more of her ultimate. Get Mercs early.

You destroy syndra in teamfights. She has no mobility and is very easy to engage on. When dashing towards her be ready to drop wall so she can't push you back.

VS

Tahm Kench

Hard

Double dorans, wits end, vamp sceptre, PD, Mallet

This lane actually sucks ass. Farm up and make plays in teamfights to win.

VS

Taliyah

Medium

DO NOT DASH THROUGH HER MINES

Rush wits end, hex after

The key is waiting for her mines to be on cooldown, then going HAM on her.

VS

Talon

Medium

Double dorans, bamis, rush sunfire and tabis, PD after, then IE

You don't need damage to kill Talon. You need to survive his burst. A good wall can block his W and completely block his ult.

One of the few matchups where sunfire rush is still better than mallet.

VS

Teemo

Hard

Rush wits, hex, mallet, PD

This lane sucks. Take exhaust don't even bother with TP. Try to all in early on. If you mess up sit at tower the rest of the game. You need mallet and wits before trying to kill him. Unless you play it absolutely perfectly. Teemo can out dps Yas pretty easily, don't underestimate him.

VS

Tristana

Easy
Double dorans into PD into sunfire. Then get either triforce or IE depending on if you need the tank stats of tri.

Any lane vs an adc = trade aggressive when your wall is up, play safe when it's not up.

VS

Trundle

Hard

Rush double dorans, bami, PD, deaths dance

D dance is great vs trundle. Seriously. He can't steal the stats of the item and it helps a lot.

VS

Tryndamere

Medium

double dorans, jaurim, tabis, mallet, PD

You can't go dmg vs tryn until you have those defensive items.

Trade aggresively when he is on low rage. Be very careful when he is on max rage.

VS

Twisted Fate

Easy
Dorans blade -> PD -> Mallet + Mercs -> IE -> GA -> BT

Fairly easy matchup for Yasuo. Try to practice throwing out your wall AS he is throwing a gold card. Don't predict, react.

Take E lvl 1 and trade aggressively when your passive is up. I like to take TP just to match his global pressure.

If you're ever in a situation where he is ulting bottom and you aren't in a position to help, push your wave quick and try to put damage on the tower.

Wits is not necessary in this lane because TF doesn't pose much of a threat.

Win lane hard and try to match his global pressure. Call out when TF is 6 so your team knows not to overextend.

VS

Twitch

Easy
Double dorans into PD into sunfire. Then get either triforce or IE depending on if you need the tank stats of tri.

Any lane vs an adc = trade aggressive when your wall is up, play safe when it's not up.

VS

Udyr

Hard

double dorans, Jaurim's, tabis, PD, mallet

This lane is actually ass until you have a PD and mallet. Once you have mallet he can't do anything.

VS

Urgot

Hard
Double dorans, bami's cinder, PD, then IE or triforce if you need the health.

This lane is deceptively hard. If you get hit by his exploding grenade run away right away. The trick here is to all in right when he misses the grenade. Wall him off and play around your wall. If he crosses the wall cross over it as well.

VS

Varus

Easy

double dorans, bami, PD, IE

block his ult with your wall.

VS

Veigar

Easy

Rush hex, then wits, then banshees

If he places a stun around you don't cross the stun. Just walk around in it and wall off his ult if he uses.

VS

Vel'Koz

Hard
Rush hex, wits, banshees

Lane is easy, winning the game tho... You can block his spells but his ult can still shred you. Be aggresive early. Teamfights are a serious issue if velkoz has a good frontline.

VS

Vi

Hard
double dorans, Jaurim's,  tabis, mallet

Vi top is some serious dmg. Def need a tanky build

VS

Viktor

Hard

Rush hex, then wits, then banshees

This lane sucks. Ask for ganks because viktor is immobile as hell. Don't try and trade a smart viktor will just Q you for half your health early on.

VS

Vladimir

Easy
Rush wits end first item. If you die early get the 720 MR item first, then the AS item. If you get a kill early get the AS item first and pressure your lead. Get Mallet after and then a MAW if they have a lot of AP, Triforce if they don't. Last item can be a GA BT

Yasuo is good vs vlad. Yasuo has high mobility so he can engage and disengage when vlad is weak or strong. Run if the bar is almost red. Punish otherwise.

Just remember. Dash out when the bar is almost red. Dash in RIGHT when the bar goes from full to empty.

VS

Volibear

Hard

Double dorans, Jaurim's, tabis,  PD, mallet

this lane is aids. Just try and farm you won't win until you get PD mallet tabis.

VS

Wukong

Hard

double dorans, Jaurims, tabis, PD, mallet

hard lane. Very easy to die. And if you die the games over. Wait until you have armor and health to duel him. I take exhaust in this lane. Super good because WK has a precise window of damage (his ulti). Exhausting during that is very useful.

VS

Xerath

Medium

Rush wits, then hex

Be aggresive early and make sure you block his stun

VS

Xin Zhao

Hard

Double dorans, rush tabis, then PD IE

Tabis is the key to success

VS

Yasuo

Hard

I suck at Yasuo 1v1s =)

but I love playing them against viewers so stop by sometime!

VS

Zac

Easy

wits

end

baby

VS

Zed

Hard

double dorans, bamis, sunfire, PD, mallet

Definitely take exhaust. Rush a sunfire and watch zed cry.

One of the few lanes where sunfire > mallet.

VS

Ziggs

Medium

Rush wits, then hex

Be aggresive. Block his minefield with your wall. Dodge his ult by dashing away.

VS

Zilean

Easy

rush wits, then hex.

Block his bombs and you're good to go.

VS

Zyra

Medium

Rush wits, then hex.

Way easier once you get MR.

Yasuo Tricks and Jumps Back to Top

Couple tricks!

Q Cancel with Flash

Q Cancel with W

Beyblade/Arcblade

Delayed Ult

When knocking people up, it is usually benefical to land an auto during your knockup BEFORE hitting R for your ultimate. If you are very clean you can squeeze in a E + Q after you land a knockup, this is called an airblade.

Notice in this video how I squeeze out an auto before I hit ultimate. It is kind of hard to see.

About Me Back to Top

Hi everyone!

For a while I was the #1 ranked Yasuo in the world according to OP.gg.

People kept asking me to make a guide while I was streaming so here I am. I hope it helps some of you. Good luck!

Patch Changes and my Thoughts Back to Top

Going to make a section for my personal opinion on patch changes.

6.17

Yasuo got a bugfix this patch where his auto after his ulti will not be delayed anymore if it was a crit.

HOWEVER, Riot messed up with the coding and now Yasuo is bugged where if he autos right before ulting, it will actually auto TWICE. On a champion like Yasuo this is very powerful. This is also a big factor for why his winrate went up by so much.

6.18

YASUO NERF OMG.

So the nerf isn't too huge.

BASE ATTACK SPEED.658  .670
ATTACK SPEED GROWTH STAT3.2%  2.5%
DEEP BREATHINGBonus Armor Penetration now only applies to Yasuo’s critical strikes
BUGFIXFixed a bug that allowed Yasuo to get an extra basic attack when casting Last Breath

The AS nerf is a bummer. With full attack speed runes, attack speed mastery, and a PD, you could max your Q cooldown around level 12 with Yasuo's passive AS gain per level.

After the nerf, it maxes around lvl 15 to 16. That's a really big deal. It means Yasuo will lose a lot of DPS. It also means Berzerker greaves are now going to be a viable option compared to tabis and mercs.

Tabi will still be better VS heavy auto attackers and mercs will still be better VS heavy CC, but in cases where neither or these are big threats berzerker greaves will be a solid pickup.

As for the ult nerf, frozen force is officially a dead build. You will absolutely need crit or you won't be able to duel tanks at all. You can build frozen force and just go for squishies, but you will struggle with tanks a lot.

PD and IE will be absolutely core on Yasuo now. You'll need 100% crit by late game or tanks will screw you. The wits end build isn't too viable anymore either. It delays your crit too much. Wits end -> PD -> Cloak may be better now but you won't be as tanky.

6.19

Yasuo got a bugfix (mid 6.18) where players would not drop fps late game anymore around the 25-30 min mark. This has been a recurring bug for a long time that makes it hard to teamfight with Yasuo late game. Not sure how big of an impact this will make, but I'm glad that annoyance was finally fixed.

6.22

Fervor got buffed this patch for Yasuo. The AD you now gain from fervor can crit and makes your ultimate do more damage. The old fervor was simply an on-hit proc.

Battle trance is definitely the best for Yasuo. Yasuo is a champ who deals consistent dps. Double edged is more suited for bursts of damage. Plus taking 2.5% is a lot when you are getting ganked.

Fresh blood is really nice on Yasuo. His Q is coded as an auto so it will proc on your tornado if the tornado does not hit anything else before hitting an enemy champion.

Fearless is a great mastery for Yasuo. As a champ that excels at short skirmishes you can pop in for harass and pop out. Re-engage once your shield is up and your fearless is off cooldown.

6.23

Couple item changes, few matchups

6.24

Revamped build path for the fervor changes

7.2

In this patch, Yasuo's E was nerfed. Damage from 70/90/110/130/150 -> 60/70/80/90/100.

He now has a .2 bonus AD ratio on his E, this does not increase with stacks of sweeping blade. This is a pretty hefty nerf. Even with AD items it will take time for the damage to catch up. This sucks even more because Yasuo doesn't build too many AD items generally. Usually just an IE and maybe a BT.

That being said, I don't think this nerf will change too much. I've already been maxing Q almost every game now, even versus range. E is not a big factor in team fights. At that point your Q will be doing almost all the damage anyway. Late game it usually isn't worth it to dash back and forth since you can simply use that time spent dashing to auto and Q people for lots of damage. Your DPS will get to a point where it's not worth dashing around unless you're dodging spells.

I don't think this is a big nerf. I do think most Yasuo players should start to max Q now in almost every situation.
